In Hushed Whispers

What Was I like

The PC approaches Blackwall at Haven.

Blackwall: There was never going to be an easy answer to the mage dilemma.

Blackwall (mages allied): What you did for the mages took courage. You gave them a chance. Everyone deserves one.
Blackwall (mages conscripted): The mages are dangerous. There’s no way around it.

Blackwall: You chose for the good of us all. I can respect that.

Blackwall (if in party for IHW): I have to ask: what was I like in that dark future you saw?

Dialogue options:

  • General: You were heroic. [1]
    • Blackwall approves
  • General: You were angry. [2]
  • General: You were the same. [3]
  • General: Don’t ask. [4]

1 - General: You were heroic.
PC: You fought with honor and died a hero. You did the Wardens proud.
Blackwall: Then I was worth something in the end. Thank you. [5]

2 - General: You were angry.
PC: You were furious about the circumstances.
Blackwall: Angry. Good. I’m glad I was angry. It means I never stopped caring. [5]

3 - General: You were the same.
PC: You didn’t seem much different.
Blackwall: Does that mean I remained unbroken or simply stopped caring? I guess we’ll never know. [5]

4 - General: Don’t ask.
PC: It’s better if some things are left forgotten.
Blackwall: All right. I won’t mention it again. [5]

5 - Scene ends.

Champions of the Just

Trust

The PC approaches Blackwall at Haven.

Blackwall: Of all the things in the world… a demon who wears someone’s face. I imagine it makes trusting others risky.

Dialogue options:

  • General: Trust is important. [1]
    • Blackwall slightly approves
  • General: What’s life without risk? [2]
    • Blackwall slightly approves
  • General: I don’t trust anyone. [3]

1 - General: Trust is important.
PC: Without trust, how would we build alliances? Or friendships? [4]

2 - General: What’s life without risk?
PC: Risk is what keeps life exciting, don’t you think?
Blackwall: Until you lose. [4]

3 - General: I don’t trust anyone.
PC: It’s best to rely on yourself. People are selfish.
Blackwall: A lonely way to exist, but practical. I cannot fault you for it. [4]

4 - Scene continues.

Blackwall: It’s easy to speak well of trust when yours has never been misplaced.

Scene ends.

Here Lies the Abyss

Rumors about Wardens

After meeting Hawke, the PC approaches Blackwall at the stables.

PC: Varric’s friend, Hawke, said there were suspicions of corruption in Grey Warden ranks.  Do you know anything about that?

Blackwall: Corruption? What sort of corruption?

PC: Corypheus. He’s been known to influence the minds of Wardens.

Blackwall: That could very well explain why so many have disappeared.

Dialogue options:

  • General: We need to find them. [1]
  • General: How’s your state of mind? [2]
  • General: All, but you. [3]

1 - General: We need to find them.
PC: If this is true, then all Wardens are in danger. Even you. We’d better find your brothers.
Blackwall: I agree. If Hawke’s given you an idea where to start, we should get moving immediately. [4]

2 - General: How’s your state of mind?
PC: Are you feeling all right? No voices or anything?
Blackwall: If I start hearing things, I promise you’ll be the first to know. [4]

3 - General: All, but you.
PC: Yes, disappeared. Not you, though.
Blackwall: Have I given you any reason to doubt me? I won’t answer to this, not when it’s founded on rumor. [4]

4 - Scene ends.

After finding the Grey Warden’s plans in the Western Approach, the PC speaks to Blackwall again.

Blackwall: We need to head to Adamant Fortress as soon as possible. If there’s a chance we can stop Corypheus from destroying the Wardens, we can’t let it slip away.

Dialogue options:

  • Investigate: What’s in Adamant?

Investigate: What’s in Adamant?
PC: What do you think we’ll uncover in Adamant?
Blackwall: Nothing good. Hearing the Wardens’ plan was bad enough. Now we’ll see it finished. Best case? We find a nightmare. Worst? We’ll find a nightmare, then die painfully. I can’t believe what they’re doing.  I thought I understood the Order. (Sighs.)

Scene ends.

Wicked Eyes and Wicked Hearts

At Halamshiral

The PC approaches Blackwall in the Hall of Heroes.

Ser Brion: Don’t I know you from somewhere? Ah! Lord Rudalt de Lancre… I’ve seen you in his company before, no?

Blackwall: I… don’t think we’ve met my lord. I’m just a Grey Warden.

Ser Brion: A Grey Warden? Odd, your face is so familiar. Around the eyes, especially. Perhaps without that beard… More wine! It will come to me.

Ser Brion: Ser Brion, chevalier, honor guard of the grand duke.

Ser Brion leaves.

Blackwall: I’m ready for anything, just give the word.
Blackwall (if spoken to before): Are we ready to make our move?

1 - Dialogue options:

  • Investigate: Your thoughts on politics? [2]
  • Investigate: Silverite Wings of Valor? [3]
  • Investigate: Have you seen anything? [4]
  • Investigate: Any suggestions? [5]
  • Flirt: Save me a dance. [6]
  • General: I’ll let you know. [7]

2 - Investigate: Your thoughts on politics?

PC: What do you think about all the scheming and politics?

Blackwall: I think I’d rather be anywhere else. Let’s save the empress and get back to where things make sense. Say what you want about Celene’s ascension. She stole the throne? She seduced her way to it? Who cares? In the years since, she’s proven she is the perfect mix of strength, cunning, and grace that Orlais needs. Gaspard? You may as well crown a bull if he wins.

[Back to 1]

3 - Investigate: Silverite Wings of Valor?

PC: So… Silverite Wings of Valor? What did you get that for?

Blackwall: For… valor.

PC: Care to Elaborate?

Blackwall: It was a long time ago. Back then we didn’t stop to boast about past victories when there was an assassin on the loose.

[Back to 1]

4 - Investigate: Have you seen anything? PC: What’s the word, see anything yet? Blackwall: I just witnessed the start of a blood feud between three noble families. But anything useful? No. Blackwall: There aren’t enough guards. That seems odd. Either the empress disguised them for appearances, or something has gone wrong. Blackwall: Nine different ladies and gentlemen have asked Cullen to dance. I think he’s received two offers of marriage. He might need a bodyguard. Blackwall: Nothing. Wherever out enemy is, he’s keeping out of sight. [Back to 1]

5 - Investigate: Any suggestions? PC: While I have a moment: is there anyone here I should question? Blackwall: I’m not well acquainted with Orlesian nobility. They rarely welcome Grey Wardens coming in with the Right of Conscription. [Back to 1]

6 - Flirt: Save me a dance. PC: Make sure you save at least one dance for me. Blackwall: All of them. [Back to 1]

7 - General: I’ll let you know. PC: Wait for my signal.

If the PC walks away from the conversation:
PC: I have to go. Keep your eyes open.

What Pride Had Wrought

A Good Thing

#The PC approaches Blackwall at the stables.

Blackwall (if not taken to the Arbor Wilds): Corypheus is able to possess Grey Wardens, or so I hear.

Blackwall: Perhaps it’s a good thing I’m not a real Warden.

Dialogue options:

  • General: A very good thing. [1] + Blackwall Slightly Approves
  • General: We would’ve have left you behind. [2]
  • General: Trying to defend your lie? [3]

1 - General: A very good thing. PC: It’s a blessing. Warden or not, I’d hate to be on the other side of your blade. Blackwall: Going up against darkspawn… and the last thing you want it a Grey Warden. Funny how these things happen. [4]

2 - General: We would’ve have left you behind. PC: If necessary, we could’ve left you in Skyhold, but now we don’t need to. You can get close enough to Corypheus to kiss him now, Blackwall: I hope that’s not an order. [4]

3 - General: Trying to defend your lie? PC: There’s really no good in your lie. Please stop trying to find some. Blackwall: Right. Never mind then. [4]

4 - Scene ends.

Helping people prove themselves to future employers. Blackwall: (Chuckles.) [10] ㅤㅤ ㅤ ㅤ 6 - General: It gives you credibility. PC: After impersonating one of their own, you’ll need that clout to win over the Wardens. Blackwall: I’m glad you’re still willing to tell it to me straight. [10]

2 - Free to atone Blackwall: All this pomp and ceremony? Can’t top seeing that bastard Corypheus burn. No matter what happens to me now, I can say I was there. I helped you bring him down.

  • General: And survived! [8]

PC: And lived to tell the tale! [10] ㅤㅤ ㅤ ㅤ 9 - General: There’ll be more like him. PC: It’s not over. It’s never over. There’s always someone who steps out of line. Blackwall: You sure know how to ruin a party. Look, let’s just focus on the good for now. [10]

10 - Scene continues.

Blackwall: So now that you’ve saved the world, what’s next? Hoping to put it all back together?

Dialogue options:

  • General: It’s a tremendous task. [11]
  • General: Might as well. [12]
  • General: Hope is useless. [13]

11 - General: It’s a tremendous task. PC: It’ll be a huge undertaking. Blackwall (low approval): Well, I still hope you know what you’re doing. Blackwall (romanced): If anyone can do it, you can. And I’ll be right by your side. Blackwall (high approval): If anyone can do it, you can. If you ever need my help, you know where to find me. I’ll be ready. [14]

12 - General: Might as well. PC: Someone has to fix things. Might as well be me. Blackwall (low approval): Let’s hope you don’t make it worse. Blackwall (romanced): If anyone can do it, you can. And I’ll be right by your side. Blackwall (high approval): If anyone can do it, you can. If you ever need my help, you know where to find me. I’ll be ready. [14]

13 - General: Hope is useless. PC: It’s going to take action, not hope. [14]

14 - Scene ends.

3 - Imprisoned Blackwall: So it’s over. The battle’s finally won. The Breach sealed and Corypheus dead.

  • General: You did good work. [15]
  • General: And we’re alive. [16]
  • General: And you think all’s forgiven? [17]

15 - General: You did good work. PC: You played a big part. I won’t forget it. [18] ㅤㅤ ㅤ ㅤ 16 - General: And we’re alive. PC: He’s dead, we’re not. All things considered, good day. Blackwall: (Chuckles.) [18] ㅤㅤ ㅤ ㅤ 17 - General: And you think all’s forgiven? PC: I haven’t forgotten your lie, Rainier. You think your part in this somehow absolves you? Blackwall: Clearly it doesn’t. [18]

18 - Scene continues.

Blackwall: You may never forgive me for what I did, but thank you anyway. You gave me the chance to fight for something. Somethings good.

Scene ends.

Post-Game

Choice dependent dialogue:

  • Romanced, free to atone [1]
  • Imprisoned [2]
  • Non-romanced free to atone/Sent to the Wardens [3]

1 - Romanced, free to atone Blackwall: You seem eager to get back to work. I was certain you’d sleep for at least another week. But if you’re ready, I’m ready. Whatever you need, love. Scene ends.

2 - Imprisoned Blackwall: Need something? I am, as ever, your humble servant. Command me as you will. Scene ends.

3 - Non-romanced free to atone/Sent to the Wardens Blackwall: Ah, there you are. I heard about the new Divine.

Blackwall (Vivienne Divine): I didn’t think it was even possible for a mage to be chosen. This’ll anger plenty. But if I know Vivienne, she’ll be crushing all naysayers under that well-shod heel. Blackwall (Leliana Divine): I have to say, I wasn’t surprised when the spymaster was chosen. She’s quite a driven woman. I’m eager to see what she does. Blackwall (Cassandra Divine): Having Cassandra on the throne will go a long way in calming things down. I just hope she’ll curb her habit of punching everything she doesn’t like.

Blackwall (sent to the Wardens): I’m sure there’s still much to do. I’ll be here to help—until the Wardens send for me, at least. Blackwall (free to atone): Now what’s next for us? I stand ready, as always, Inquisitor.

Scene ends.

Post-game greetings

Romanced:

  • My lady
  • Your wish is my command
  • radiant, as always
  • I’m here

General:

  • Here if you need me.
  • Inquisitor.
  • Yes.
  • At your service.
  • Still here.
