It Occurs To Me

The PC approaches Cassandra to chat for the first time.

Cassandra: It occurs to me I don’t actually know much about you.

PC: What do you want to know?

Cassandra: I’m… not sure. Where are you from?

1 - Dialogue options:

  • Investigate: You don’t know? [2]
  • General: [Tell her.] 3
  • General: [Make something up.] 4

2 - Investigate: You don’t know? PC: I thought you knew that. Cassandra: I suppose I could ask Leliana. She has collected a frightening amount of information on you. But I don’t want to ask her. I want to hear it from you. [back to 1]

3 - General: [Tell her.]

Human non-mage PC PC: I was born in Ostwick, and that’s where most of my family is. Cassandra: The Trevelyans, is it not? A large clan with a rather clever coat-of-arms. Tell me, do you consider the Free Marches your home? Are you eager to go back? [5]

Human PC PC: The Circle of Magi at Ostwick, at least until the rebellion began. Cassandra: Yes, I suppose that… would have required you to stay on the move. Tell me, do you consider the Free Marches your home? Are you eager to go back? [5]

Dalish PC PC: My clan never stayed in one place for long, though we primarily roamed the Free Marches. Cassandra: Oh? I didn’t think your people roamed that far north, but clearly I’m mistaken. I’m told some members of your clan might still be alive. Do you intend to go back? [5]

Dwarf PC PC: Ostwick primarily, though my… business took me around the Free Marches. Cassandra: Ah, the Carta. Odd that organized crime could be a dwarven pastime, but there it is. Tell me, do you consider the Free Marches your home? Are you eager to go back? [5]

Qunari PC PC: No specific place. My mercenary band worked mostly in the Free Marches, however. Cassandra: At least until you crossed the Waking Sea to reach the Conclave, I suppose? Tell me, do you consider the Free Marches your home? Are you eager to go back? [5]

5 - Scene continues.

Dialogue options:

  • General: I hated it. [6]
  • General: Home is wherever I am. [7]
  • General: Eventually, perhaps. [8]
  • General: I’d go now, if I had a choice. [9]
  • General: None of your business. [10]

6 - General: I hated it. PC: If I ever go back, it’ll be too soon. Cassandra (human non-mage PC): Yes, I suppose I feel the same way about my own family. Cassandra: Really? That is… good to know, I suppose. [11]

7 - General: Home is wherever I am. PC: Wherever I am is home enough for me. Cassandra: That’s how I feel now, after years of tending to business for the Divine. [11]

8 - General: Eventually, perhaps. PC: I might, once this is done. Cassandra: It will not be the same once you do. [11]

9 - General: I’d go now, if I had a choice. PC: I’d go home right now if I could. Cassandra: Then I hope you can, once this business is done. [11]

10 - General: None of your business. PC: That’s no business of yours. Cassandra: True enough. [11]

4 - General: [Make something up.] PC: I came here from Seheron, actually. Cassandra: That far away? PC: My family came there from the northern islands. We landed there after crossing the great ocean. Cassandra: The… great ocean? PC: Yes. Lands in the far East have mountains twice as large as the ones here. Cassandra: I see. Perhaps asking Leliana was the better choice after all. [11]

11 - Scene ends.

I’d Like Your Advice

PC: Do you have any advice for me?

After meeting Hawke, before WEWH Cassandra: It seems we must look into the plot to assassinate the empress as well as meet this ally of Hawke’s. If I were you, I would see to the empress. Orlesian aid could be invaluable to the Inquisition.

After startling HLTA Cassandra: This matter with the Grey Wardens must be dealt with—quickly. That ancient Order gets into far more trouble than they’re worth. I should have listened to Leliana’s suspicions sooner.

After HLTA, WEWH not completed Cassandra: Now that the Grey Warden threat is dealt with, we must investigate the assassination plot. One can only hope it is not too late. More chaos in Orlais only helps Corypheus.

Post-HLTA and WEWH Cassandra: Hmm. It seems that Corypheus searches for elven artifacts? That’s hardly surprising. Tevinter power is based on what those vultures scavenged from the ancient elves. Whatever advantage he hopes to gain, we need to stop him at once.

Post-WPHW Cassandra: Find Corypheus. If he vanishes, he will only rebuild his power and come at us again. And he will come. Whatever mad play the magister has in mind, you star as his nemesis. I shudder to think what a creature like that could concoct next, given the time.

About Cole Cassandra: Tell that demon… what does it call itself, Cole? Tell it to leave. He may not mean harm, but that does not mean he will not harm us. Spirits are not creatures to take at face value. Be cautious with him, Inquisitor.

About Dorian Cassandra: Treat Dorian with caution. It’s possible he could be what he seems: a Tevinter mage wishing to do better than his countrymen. What if he is not? At best, his presence makes the Inquisition appear to have questionable allies.

About Sera Cassandra: Watch the treasury carefully. With that Sera present… PC: You think she’s here to rob us? Cassandra: Possibly not, but I would hardly put it past her.

About Vivienne Cassandra: It’s good that you recruited Enchanter Vivienne into the Inquisition. She is ambitious but has always shown sense in her dealings with the Chantry. My advice would be to watch her but heed her when she speaks. That one wastes no words.

General:

  • Cassandra: You know what you need to do, Inquisitor.
  • Cassandra: Nothing that I can think of, no.
  • Cassandra: Nothing that you could not think of yourself, Inquisitor.
  • Cassandra: We must keep an eye on the College of Clerics. The moment they elect a Divine, things could change quickly.
  • Cassandra: We must guard Skyhold carefully. There is no telling when Corypheus will next attack.
  • Cassandra: Watch the new recruits. Leliana says spies are inevitable, and I agree.
  • Cassandra (sided mages): We must root out the red templars. They form the bulk of Corypheus’s forces.
  • Cassandra (sided templars): We must root out the Venatori. The Tevinter Imperium cannot be allowed to gain a foothold in the south.

Specialization: Necromancer

Cassandra: I understand you’ve been looking into the spells of the Mortalitasi. Only a certain kind of person is drawn to necromancy. My uncle found it… fascinating.

Dialogue options:

  • General: You don’t approve? PC: I take it from your tone that you don’t approve. ㅤㅤ ㅤ
  • General: I just think it’s useful. PC: I don’t find it fascinating. It’s simply useful. Cassandra: I’m relieved. ㅤㅤ ㅤ
  • General: What kind of person? PC: What do you mean by “a certain kind of person”? Cassandra: A morbid kind. Drawn to flesh and corpses and… well.

Cassandra: Growing up in Nevarra, it seemed like an obsession to everyone around me. My uncle always had a corpse in the manse, anointing it with perfumes and reading to it as if it were a child. Whatever your interest, I hope you don’t go as far as he. The smell of embalming fluid is… unpleasant.

Specialization: Reaver

Cassandra: Be careful, Inquisitor. Dragon blood can change you in ways you will not expect.

PC: How do you know that?

Cassandra: Dragon hunters were once revered in Nevarra, and the Pentaghasts were the most famous. Many of my family became Reavers, harnessing the power of dragon’s blood against their quarry. But each one went terribly insane in the end. Eventually it was forbidden.

1 - Dialogue options:

  • Investigate: They went mad? [2]
  • General: That sounds horrible. [3]
  • General: I rather enjoy the forbidden. [4]
  • General: I’ll be fine. [5]

2 - Investigate: They went mad? PC: They all went mad? Cassandra: It was their own doing, I understand. Greed drove them to use more and more. The blood… deformed them. Caused growths, scales, things of that nature. They became enraged by little things. In time, that rage swallowed them. They committed murders, killed entire families, unspeakable things. Tales from hundreds of years ago, of course. Likely exaggerated… but perhaps not entirely. [back to 1]

3 - General: That sounds horrible. PC: I don’t like the sound of that. [6]

4 - General: I rather enjoy the forbidden. PC: I like dabbling in the forbidden from time to time. [6]

5 - General: I’ll be fine. PC: Don’t worry about me. [6]

6 - Scene continues.

Cassandra (high approval): If anyone is a match for dragon’s blood, it is you. I only suggest caution. Cassandra (low approval): It seems reckless to me, but do as you wish. I simply suggest caution.
