Travel Arrangements

Dorian is talking to someone as the PC approaches.

Dorian: On your way. We’ll finish this later.

Dorian turns to the bookshelf.

PC: Something I should know?

Dorian: Is it necessary for you to know everything? Is this a rule I’ve previously been unaware of?

Dialogue options:

  • General: I was only curious. [1]
  • General: Obviously. [2]
  • General: Problem? [3]

1 - General: I was only curious. PC: I was just asking, Dorian. Is that so terrible? Dorian: You don’t think that, if I had something to tell you, I would? PC: I don’t know. Would you? [4]

2 - General: Obviously. PC: There are many rules at Skyhold. Didn’t you get the instructions? Dorian: Clearly the messenger misplaced it. PC: A shame, considering one of the rules is “no strangers in Skyhold without my approval.” [4]

3 - General: Problem? PC: You have a problem? Dorian: Me? A problem? Why, whatever could you possibly mean? PC: Out with it. You clearly want to say something. [4]

4 - Scene continues.

Dorian: As you wish. That man is a ship captain. I’m arranging travel back to the Imperium.

Dorian finally turns to the PC,

PC: When?

Dorian walks away.

Dorian: When this is done. When Corypheus is dead… or I am. Then I’ll be an urn traveling.

Dialogue options:

  • Special (romanced): What about us? [5]
  • General: You don’t have to go. [6]
  • General: Were you going to tell me? [7]
  • General: Why wait? [8]

5 - Special: What about us? PC: You’re leaving? But I thought we— Dorian: We what? Am I supposed to pretend that there’s something still between us? [9]

6 - General: You don’t have to go. PC: You don’t need to. There’s a place for you here. Dorian: A place? Oh, yes, I’m well aware of what my “place” is here. [9]

7 - General: Were you going to tell me? PC: And what? You were going to sneak out in the night without a word? Dorian: Why not? The only words I have for you are rather choice. [9]

8 - General: Why wait? PC: Why wait until then? Go now. Dorian: And give everyone the satisfaction of pretending no Tevinter ever stood against Corypheus? Tempting, but no. [9]

9 - Scene continues.

PC: What do you mean by that?

Dorian: What do I mean? You must be joking. There are so many issues I could raise. Where should I begin?

Dorian (met Dorian at Redcliffe but sided templars): You abandoned Redcliffe to chase after those templars after I asked for your help!

Dorian (conscripted mages): You have no interest in the welfare of the rebel mages, turning them into your own private army!

Dorian (killed the elven Sentinels): You could have made a deal with the elven Sentinels. We could have learned from them, but no.

Dorian: It’s obvious there’s no reason to remain once Corypheus is defeated. He’s the real enemy, but you! Watching you spread across Thedas like some cancerous growth sickens me.

Dialogue options:

  • General: [Hit him.] [10]
  • General: I don’t care. [11] +Dorian greatly approves
  • General: Sorry you feel that way. [12] +Dorian slightly approves
  • General: Get out. [13]

10 - General: [Hit him.] The PC punches him, and Dorian falls to the floor. Dorian (romanced): So much for “us.” I should have seen this coming. You and I? What a laugh. Dorian (not romanced): Feel better, do you? I can’t say I’m not a little relieved. This wasn’t going anywhere good. Dorian: Good luck against Corypheus. Send him my best. Dorian leaves the Inquisition.

11 - General: I don’t care. PC: I’m not here to be your friend. Dorian (romanced): Too bad. It really seemed like it was going somewhere promising. Dorian: I’ll help against Corypheus, if you let me, but afterwards I shan’t linger. Scene ends.

12 - General: Sorry you feel that way. PC: I wish it didn’t have to end this way. Dorian: I don’t have to agree with your choices or even like you. I’m here for one purpose only. Dorian (romanced): Too bad. It really seemed like it was going somewhere promising. Dorian: I’ll help against Corypheus, if you let me, but afterwards I shan’t linger. Scene ends.

13 - General: Get out. PC: Just go. Now. Dorian: You’re kicking me out? Dorian (romanced): I should have seen this coming. You and I? What a laugh. Dorian (not romanced): I can’t say I’m not a little relieved. This wasn’t going anywhere good. Dorian: Good luck against Corypheus. Send him my best. Dorian leaves the Inquisition.

Warm Approval

A Letter Regarding Felix

The PC walks up to Dorian, who is looking over a letter.

  • Allied templars [1]
  • Allied mages [2]

1 - Allied templars PC: Anything interesting?

Dorian (met Felix in Redcliffe): A letter regarding Felix. He spilled wine on you in Redcliffe, remember? Dorian (did not meet Felix, asked about Dorian’s past/Alexius): A letter regarding a friend. I mentioned Alexius to you, didn’t I? His son. Dorian (did not meet Felix or ask about Dorian’s past): A letter regarding a friend. You never met him, but he was at Redcliffe when… everything happened.

Dorian: I was trying to discover what became of him. Where he ended up.

Dialogue options:

  • General: I’m sorry for your loss. [3] +Dorian approves
  • General: That’s not surprising. [4]
  • General: They’ll pay. [5] +Dorian slightly approves

3 - General: I’m sorry for your loss. PC: Are you all right? Dorian: He was ill, and thus on borrowed time anyhow. PC: That doesn’t mean you can’t regret his death. Dorian: I know. [9]

4 - General: That’s not surprising. PC: They’d kill anyone who stood in their way. Dorian: I just hoped, maybe this once… [9]

5 - General: They’ll pay. PC: Those bastards will pay for that. Dorian: Yes. They will. [9]

2 - Allied mages PC: And?

Dorian: A letter regarding Felix. Alexius’ son. He went to the Magisterium. Stood on the senate floor and told them of you. A glowing testimonial, I’m informed. No news on the reaction, but everyone back home is talking. Felix always was as good as his word.

PC: Was?

Dorian: He’s dead. The blight caught up with him.

Dialogue options:

  • General: I’m sorry for your loss. [6] +Dorian approves
  • General: Sad, but not surprising. [7]
  • General: So quickly? [8]

6 - General: I’m sorry for your loss. PC: Are you all right? Dorian: He was ill, and thus on borrowed time anyhow. PC: That doesn’t mean you can’t regret his death. Dorian: I know. [9]

7 - General: Sad, but not surprising. PC: That was a long journey for someone in his condition. Dorian: He must have raced back, pulled strings like a madman. Ordinarily it takes months to gather the senate. [9]

8 - General: So quickly? PC: It’s barely been any time at all. Was he so ill? Dorian: Honestly, he should have died a long time ago. Alexius was using magic to keep him alive. He must have raced back, pulled strings like a madman. Ordinarily it takes months to gather the senate. [9]

9 - Scene continues.

Dorian: Felix used to sneak me treats from the kitchens when I was working late in his father’s study. “Don’t get into trouble on my behalf,” I’d tell him. “I like trouble,” he’d say. Tevinter could use more mages like him, those who put the good of others above themselves.

10 - Dialogue options:

  • Investigate: Were you two involved? [11]
  • Investigate (PC did not go to Redcliffe): Why was he in Redcliffe? [12]
  • General: (after asking why Felix was in Redcliffe) Don’t sell yourself short. [13]
  • General: What about yourself? [13]
  • General: You might be idealizing him. [14]
  • General: Follow his example. [15] +Dorian approves

11 - Investigate: Were you two involved? PC: Were the two of you… ? Dorian: Felix and I? What an odd question.

Dorian (did not meet Felix in Redcliffe): No, there was nothing between us. He was just a fine young man, better than I. Maybe, if the world were a better place, he’d be here instead of me. [16]

Dorian (met Felix in Redcliffe): No, I had no intention of abusing Alexius’s hospitality by seducing his son. Not that I’ve been proper my whole life, by any means. It wasn’t like that. Even in illness, Felix was the best of us. With him around, you knew things could be better. [16]

12 - Investigate: Why was he in Redcliffe? PC: What was he doing in Redcliffe if he wasn’t part of the Venatori? Dorian: He was there with his father. In fact, Felix was the reason I knew where the Venatori were. He’d planned to help if you came to Redcliffe, I understand. He had so much more than I to lose by helping. He should be alive, not I. [16]

13 - General: What about yourself?/Don’t sell yourself short. PC: You make it sound like he was a better person than you. Dorian: What a mad thing to say. Few people are better than I. The PC gives him a look. Dorian: Very well. A better person, clearly. Not nearly as handsome. [16]

14 - General: You might be idealizing him. PC: Are you certain you’re not making him into someone he wasn’t? Dorian: He occasionally neglected to bathe. Should I mention that in his eulogy? PC: Probably not. Dorian: He wasn’t perfect, but he was a fine young man. I’ll miss him. [16]

15 - General: Follow his example. PC: He should be an example for others to follow, or his death is wasted. Dorian: Should I spread the word? We could spawn the Cult of Felix within a matter of days. PC: There are worse things. Dorian: Probably true… and you’re right. His actions should not be forgotten. [16]

16 - Scene continues.

Dorian walks away to the bookshelf.

Dorian: Thankfully Felix wasn’t the only decent sort kicking around Thedas.

High Approval

Undue Influence

The PC approaches Dorian, overhearing his ongoing argument with Mother Giselle

Giselle: I don’t know what you think you’re doing.

Dorian: I’m being clucked at by a hen, evidently.

Giselle: Don’t play the fool with me, young man!

Dorian: If I wanted to play the fool, I could be rather more convincing, I assure you.

Giselle: Your glib tongue does you no credit.

Dorian: You’d be surprised at the credit my tongue gets me, Your Reverence.

The PC walks up.

Giselle: Oh, I…

PC: What’s going on here?

Dorian: It seems the revered mother is concerned about my “undue influence” over you.

Giselle: It is just concern. Your Worship, you must know how this looks.

Dorian: You might need to spell it out, my dear.

Giselle: This man is of Tevinter. His presence at your side, the rumors alone…

1 - Dialogue options:

  • Investigate: Because he’s Tevinter? [2]
  • General: There’s no need to worry. [3]
  • General: Rumors? Do tell! [4]
  • General (after asking about his being from Tevinter): Tell me about these rumors. [4]
  • General: We do not serve the Chantry. [5]

2 - Investigate: Because he’s Tevinter? PC: What’s wrong with him being from Tevinter? Specifically. Giselle: I’m fully aware that not everyone from the Imperium is the same. Dorian: How kind of you to notice. Yet still you bow to the opinion of the masses? Giselle: The opinion of the masses is based on centuries of evidence. What would you have me tell them? Dorian: The truth? Giselle: The truth is I do not know you, and neither do they. Thus these rumors will continue. [back to 1]

3 - General: There’s no need to worry. PC: There’s no cause for concern, Your Reverence. Giselle: With all due respect, you underestimate the effect this man has on the people’s good opinion. PC: Do the people know how he’s helped the Inquisition? [6]

4 - General: Rumors? Do tell!/Tell me about these rumors. PC: Oh? I’d like to hear what these rumors are, exactly. Giselle: I… could not repeat them, Your Worship. PC: Repeat them? So you’ve shared them before? [6]

5 - General: We do not serve the Chantry. PC: The concerns of the Chantry are no concern of the Inquisition, Mother Giselle. Giselle: I’m aware of that. You risk, however, not only the Chantry’s opinion. PC: And if I asked from where these rumors originated? [6]

6 - Scene continues.

Giselle: I… see. I meant no disrespect, Inquisitor, only to ask after this man’s intentions. If you feel he is without ulterior motive, then I humbly beg forgiveness of you both.

Giselle leaves.

Dorian: Well, that’s something.

Dialogue options:

General: Are you all right? [7] General: This happens often? [8] General: Forget her. [9]

7 - General: Are you all right? PC: She didn’t get to you, did she? Dorian: No, it takes more to get to me than thinly veiled accusations. PC: You don’t think she’ll do anything? Dorian: Do what? Yours is the good opinion I care about, not hers. [10]

8 - General: This happens often? PC: This sort of thing happens often, does it? Dorian: More than anyone tells you. No one knows their own reputation. PC: Until someone helpfully informs them. Dorian: There is that. She meant well, if that’s of any concern. [10]

9 - General: Forget her. PC: Don’t listen to her. She doesn’t know what she’s talking about. Dorian: She does, actually. There are rumors, and her concern is well-meaning… if misplaced. PC: It doesn’t matter. Dorian: Listen to you. It’s good to be the Inquisitor. [10]

10 - Choice dependent dialogue:

  • Romanced [11]
  • Flirted but not romance not locked in (Male PC only) [12]
  • Not flirted/female PC [13]

11 - Romanced Dorian: It does make me wonder. Is my influence over you… undue?

Dialogue options:

  • General: Not at all. [14]
  • General: Only in a good way. [15]
  • General: You don’t influence me. [16]

14 - General: Not at all. PC: No, not undue at all. Dorian: Overdue, then? [19]

15 - General: Only in a good way. PC: Perhaps, but it’s the kind of undue influence I enjoy. Dorian: No one accused you of being politically astute. PC: Not today. [19]

16 - General: You don’t influence me. PC: I don’t think you have any influence over me. Dorian: Not that I was attempting such, but how kind of you to underline it so. Perhaps what we’re doing—whatever that is—isn’t worth the trouble? I wouldn’t want to cause you grief.

Dialogue options:

  • General: Don’t be ridiculous. [17]
  • General: That’s for the best. [18]

17 - General: Don’t be ridiculous. PC: I never said you caused me grief. Dorian: And yet you have that look. PC: That’s just my face. Dorian: All right, all right. Don’t say I didn’t warn you. Scene ends.

18 - General: That’s for the best. PC: Maybe so. Dorian: Then friends it shall be. PC: Friends? Relationship ends.

19 - Scene continues.

Dorian: (Laughs.) I tease you too much, I know.

Dialogue options:

  • General: Your wit is useful. PC: It’s helpful when you turn that scathing wit on people other than me.

  • General: It’s deserved. PC: Oh, I probably deserve it.

  • General: Sometimes, yes. PC: Occasionally.

Dorian: I’ll have to find something we can do that doesn’t involve teasing. Soon, ideally.

Scene ends.

12 - Flirted but not romance not locked in Dorian: I don’t know if you’re aware, but the assumption in some corners is that you and I are… intimate.

Dialogue options:

  • Flirt (available for romance): That’s not a bad idea. (Start a romance with Dorian, if possible) [20]
  • Special: What about Cassandra? [21]
  • Special: What about Iron Bull? [22]
  • Special: What about Josephine? [23]
  • General: But it’s not true. [24]
  • General: That doesn’t surprise me. [25]
  • General: I don’t like that idea. (Dorian will stop flirting with the PC) [26]

20 - Flirt: That’s not a bad idea. PC: That’s not the worst assumption they could have, is it? Dorian: I don’t know. Is it? PC: Do you always answer a question with a question? Dorian: Would you like me to answer in some other fashion? PC: If you’re capable. Dorian kisses him. Dorian: “If you’re capable.” The nonsense you speak. PC: You realize this makes the rumors somewhat true? Dorian: Evidently. We might have to explore the full truth of them later. In private. Scene ends.

21 - Special: What about Cassandra? PC: They don’t know about Cassandra, then? Dorian: Don’t know or don’t care. Baseless insinuation is grand fun. PC: I hope Cassandra isn’t upset by this. Dorian: Have you met Cassandra? If she even noticed such talk, she’d just punch it in the face. Perhaps it’s odd to say, but… I think of you as a friend. Inquisitor. [30]

22 - Special: What about Iron Bull? PC: They don’t know about Iron Bull, then? Dorian: Don’t know or don’t care. Baseless insinuation is grand fun. PC: I wonder what Iron Bull would think of this. Dorian: If he’s even heard. Something tells me he’d find it amusing. Perhaps it’s odd to say, but… I think of you as a friend. Inquisitor. [30]

23 - Special: What about Josephine? PC: They don’t know about Josephine, then? Dorian: Don’t know or don’t care. Baseless insinuation is grand fun. PC: I hope Josephine isn’t upset by this. Dorian: Please. She no doubt knows of the talk, says hello, and brings it biscuits. I wouldn’t worry. Perhaps it’s odd to say, but… I think of you as a friend. Inquisitor. [30]

24 - General: But it’s not true. PC: But that’s a lie. There’s no truth to it at all. Dorian: Has that ever stopped anyone? PC: It should. Dorian: You’re such an idealist. Perhaps it’s odd to say, but… I think of you as a friend. Inquisitor. [30]

25 - General: That doesn’t surprise me. PC: You know how people are. Dorian: I didn’t start those rumors. PC: Mm-hmm. Dorian: I didn’t! My rumors would be so much more detailed. Perhaps it’s odd to say, but… I think of you as a friend. Inquisitor. [30]

26 - General: I don’t like that idea. PC: Really? I don’t care for that assumption. Dorian: Yes, well, it probably isn’t the worst thing said about you today. Perhaps it’s odd to say, but… I think of you as a friend. Inquisitor. [30]

13 - Not flirted/female PC Dorian: I should ask… do the rumors bother you?

Dialogue options:

  • General: Only on your behalf. [27]
  • General: There will always be rumors. [28]
  • General: Yes. (Dorian will stop flirting with the PC) [29]

27 - General: Only on your behalf. PC: I wish they wouldn’t disparage you. They don’t know you. Dorian: They know you even less than they know me. Perhaps it’s odd to say, but… I think of you as a friend. Inquisitor. [30]

28 - General: There will always be rumors. PC: Why should it bother me? Everyone’s talking about the Inquisition. Dorian: That’s good. I’d hate to think I brought you any grief. Perhaps it’s odd to say, but… I think of you as a friend. Inquisitor. [30]

29 - General: Yes. PC: They do, actually. Dorian: (Sighs.) I feel the same. Perhaps it’s odd to say, but… I think of you as a friend. Inquisitor. [30]

30 - Scene continues.

Dorian: I have precious few friends. I didn’t think to find one here.

PC: I–

Dorian: Don’t speak. I detest confessions, and I’d like to get this over with. Allow me to say I’ll stand beside you—against Corypheus, my countrymen, or spurious rumor—so long as you’ll have me.
