Leliana’s Warning
The PC speaks to Josephine after flirting with her at least three times
Josephine: Leliana wished to speak with you, inquisitor. It seemed rather urgent.
If PC talks again without speaking to Josephine Josephine: Don’t forget Leliana had something she wished to speak about, Inquisitor.
The PC visits Leliana in the rookery.
Leliana: Inquisitor. May I have a word? I notice you’ve paid Lady Montilyet quite a number of compliments.
Dialogue options:
- General: I do like her. PC: Yes, I enjoy her company very much. ㅤㅤ ㅤ
- General: I can’t keep anything from you. PC: You’ve found me out, spymaster. ㅤㅤ ㅤ
- General: And? PC: What does that have to do with you?
Leliana: An entanglement with our ambassador seems most unwise. I asked Josephine to join the Inquisition because we needed a diplomat. Not so she could be toyed with.
Dialogue options:
- General: I’m not toying with her. [1]
- General: Was that a threat? [2]
- General: It’s not your business. [3]
1 - General: I’m not toying with her. PC: I enjoy being with Josephine. I’m not trying to break her heart. Leliana: Then I would be more cautious. [4]
2 - General: Was that a threat? PC: Is my own spymaster telling me to watch myself? Leliana: While it would be petty of me to tamper with your supper over this, she is a very good friend. [4]
3 - General: It’s not your business. PC: Whatever’s between me and Josephine is none of your concern. Leliana: I disagree, Inquisitor. I brought her here. [4]
4 - Scene continues.
Leliana: Josephine’s no stranger to courtly intrigue. But love? There she is an innocent. She has no idea you are truly attracted to her. If, indeed, you are.
Dialogue options:
- Investigate: And if I am? [5]
- General: I am. [6]
- General: It’s nothing serious. [7]
- General: I’m not attracted to her. [8]
- General: That’s private. [9]
5 - Investigate: And if I am? PC: What do you have against the idea of me being attracted to Josephine? Leliana: I have not known you long, Inquisitor. Neither has Josephine. Her heart is easily carried away. I want to be sure it is taken by someone who truly cares. So, if you feel anything towards Josephine, I want to know.
Dialogue options:
- General: I’m interested in her. [6]
- General: It’s nothing serious. [7]
- General: I’m not attracted to her. [8]
- General: That’s private. [9]
6 - General: I am./I’m interested in her. PC: Yes, I’m very attracted to Josephine. Leliana: Is that so? Whatever is between you, I ask that you treat her with kindness. For her sake, as well as yours. [10]
7 - General: It’s nothing serious. PC: I just gave her a few words of praise—nothing to get so upset about. Leliana: You mean to tell me I have misread the situation? Interesting. [10]
8 - General: I’m not attracted to her. PC: Nothing’s happening between me and Josephine. Leliana: How good to hear. I do hope it stays that way. For the sake of the Inquisition, of course. You need no distractions from your work. [10]
9 - General: That’s private. PC: I’ve said all I have to say on the matter. Leliana: Is that so? Whatever is between you, I ask that you treat her with kindness. For her sake, as well as yours. [10]
10 - Dialogue options:
- General: I’m glad you care for Josephine. [11]
- General: Fine. I get it. [12]
- General: Stop fussing. [13]
11 - General: I’m glad you care for Josephine. PC: Whatever happens, I’m glad to see Josephine has a concerned friend here. Josephine: (Sighs.) I have so few true friends these days. Those that are left I… deeply cherish. [14]
12 - General: Fine. I get it. PC: Yes, yes—you’re the stern older sister who’ll rip me to shreds if I so much as make poor Josephine sniffle. Leliana: As long as we’re both clear on that. [14]
13 - General: Stop fussing. PC: Josephine and I aren’t children. Leliana: I’m aware how little my opinion counts in matters of the heart. [14]
14 - Scene continues.
Leliana: I will not trouble you any further… but I do watch over my friends. Good day, Your Worship.
An Innocent in Love
The PC speaks to Josephine
PC: Well, Leliana just gave me quite the speech.
What about?
About us.
(Sighs with exasperation.) Oh, she is impossible. Might we discuss this somewhere more private?
—
They move to the PC’s quarters. Josephine is pacing back and forth while the PC sits nearby on a couch.
Josephine: Leliana said I was “an innocent in love”?
PC: More or less.
Josephine: Of all the—I’m quite capable of understanding our association.
Josephine: I’ve never thought your intentions were overly romantic, Inquisitor, I assure you.
Dialogue options:
- End romance: I’m not interested in you that way. (This will break off a romance path with Josephine.) [1]
- Flirt: But what if they were? (Kindle the start of a romance with Josephine) [2]
- Flirt: I should have flirted harder. (Kindle the start of a romance with Josephine) [3]
1 - End romance: I’m not interested in you that way. PC: But we are still friends, right? Josephine: Ah, well. I’m glad we’ve settled this, and… I’ll be going. Josephine: Should you ever think— PC: I don’t know if— Josephine: Goodnight, my [lord/lady]. Scene ends.
2 - Flirt: But what if they were? PC: Would my attentions be unwelcome if they were romantic? Josephine: What? Oh. No! That is…
3 - Flirt: I should have flirted harder. PC: Perhaps I should have composed a ballad, then. Or sent roses. Josephine: What? You mean you do—
4 - Scene continues.
Josephine: We’ve only just… I didn’t wish to presume you harbored any tender feelings for me.
Dialogue options:
- General: But I do care for you. PC: I won’t deny a certain captivation, Josephine. ㅤㅤ ㅤ
- General: I’d like it if you did. PC: I have no objections. Presume away. ㅤㅤ ㅤ
- General: Then I’ll spell it out. PC: But I am attracted to you. Quite, in fact.
The PC stands.
Josephine: But we haven’t even known each other a few short months. How can you declare this liking for me after such a brief time together?
Dialogue options:
- General: You’ve made it easy. PC: You’ve intelligence, elegance, and I always delight in your company. It seems most natural to want to be close to you. ㅤㅤ ㅤ
- General: Because sometimes it happens. PC: ’ve never met anyone whose presence affects me like you do. Perhaps it just means I’m a hopeless romantic, but there you have it. ㅤㅤ ㅤ
- General: I wish I knew. I just need you. PC:I don’t know why I can’t stop thinking about you, Josephine. I only know that I do.
Josephine: I would not object to a… closer relationship between us, my [lady/lord]. If that sounds agreeable to you.
Dialogue options:
- General: That sounds wonderful. [5]
- General: I think I owe Leliana. [6]
- General: Thank the Maker. [7]
5 - General: That sounds wonderful. PC: Nothing would make me happier. Josephine: Well, then… [8]
6 - General: I think I owe Leliana. PC: I’m actually quite glad Leliana prompted this talk. Josephine: I suppose she was right after all. Please don’t tell her I said that. PC: I wouldn’t dream of it. [8]
7 - General: Thank the Maker. PC: You have no idea how happy I am to hear that. Josephine: Well, then… [8]
8 - Scene continues.
They share a kiss, and Josephine’s foot pops up.
Flattery
The PC speaks to Josephine after starting the romance.
Josephine: How are you, my [lord/lady]?
Dialogue options:
- General: Happy to see you. [1]
- General: Thinking about how lovely you are. [2]
- General: Let’s sneak away for a bit. (Give Josephine a kiss) [3]
1 - General: Happy to see you. PC: Always better for the sight of you, Lady Montilyet. Josephine: (Giggles.) Oh, my. You flatter me much too much. Scene ends.
2 - General: Thinking about how lovely you are. PC: I’m courting the most beautiful woman in the entire castle. That helps a great deal. Josephine: (Giggles.) Oh, my. You flatter me much too much. Scene ends.
3 - General: Let’s sneak away for a bit. PC: Let’s meet away from prying eyes, for a while. Just you and me. Josephine: A meeting? I could find a place for us to… Oh! Together. My word. Well, then. Do lead the way. They share a kiss in the gardens. Scene ends.
Heraldry From a Herald
- Special: Were your ancestors Orlesian?
PC: How far do your roots go back to Orlais?
Josephine: Very far. The Montilyets used to have vast holdings in Val Royeaux itself. I wish I could’ve seen them, especially the ones bearing the family crest. The original crest’s design was abandoned when we were exiled from the city. I’ve always wanted to find a copy.
The PC buys the Montilyet family crest from a merchant in Val Royeaux. They return to Josephine with what looks like a model boat.
Josephine: Why… what’s this?
The PC gives it to her.
PC: You said you wanted to see your original family crest. I found one for you.
Josephine: I’m astonished. I’d given up hope that any example of the early family crest still existed! It even has our first motto, back from when we had a trading fleet to speak of: “From sea to shore, we tame the waves.”
Dialogue options:
- General: I’d hoped you’d like it. [1]
- General: The motto’s a bit much. [2]
- General: It took some finding. [3]
1 - General: I’d hoped you’d like it. PC: Anything to see you smile. Josephine: You’ve certainly succeeded. Thank you. Scene ends.
2 - General: The motto’s a bit much. PC: “We tame the waves”? Josephine: It means much to have a reminder of that. Thank you. Scene ends.
3 - General: It took some finding. PC: It took some hunting, but I persevered. Josephine: This will mean a great deal to my entire family. Thank you. Scene ends.
Flirt: Let’s Talk About Us
1 - Dialogue options:
- General: Let’s spend some time alone. [2]
- General: So Leliana disapproves of us? [3]
- General: Does anyone gossip about us? [4]
- End romance: We need to end things. [5]
2 - General: Let’s spend some time alone. PC: I came to see if I could steal you away for a few minutes for myself. Josephine: Goodness. Quickly, then, before anyone needs something from us.
PC: I thought we might go somewhere a little more private, for a while. Josephine: I have so much to do but… oh, let’s do. After you.
PC: I wanted to spend some time with just you and me, Josephine. Josephine: Why, that sounds lovely.
They go to the gardens to share a kiss.
3 - General: So Leliana disapproves of us? PC: Why was Leliana so set against us being together, Josephine? Josephine: Think nothing of it. She’d disapprove of anyone I chose to keep serious company with. Back in Val Royeaux, Leliana was practically my older sister.
Dialogue options:
- Special: So you two weren’t… close? [6]
- [Back to 1]
6 - Special: So you two weren’t… close? PC: So you two never had a romantic history together? Josephine: A romantic… you did hear me say Leliana was like a sister to me? She’s a most dear friend. And nothing more. [back to 1]
4 - General: Does anyone gossip about us? PC: Has our being together set any tongues wagging? Josephine: Undoubtedly. Rumor already gave you a dozen suitors the moment you took your title.
Dialogue options:
- Special: What kind of suitors? [7]
- [Back to 1]
7 - Special: What kind of suitors? PC: Who were these rumors pairing me with? Josephine: I can only speak to what was whispered in several courts… PC: Josephine… Josephine: (Sighs.) To begin with? ㅤㅤ ㅤ Josephine (sided templars): Cassandra, Leliana, Cullen, Dorian, Mother Giselle, the Lord Seeker, Chancellor Roderick, two barons, three maids, and some man named “Philip.” Josephine (sided mages): Cassandra, Leliana, Cullen, Dorian, Mother Giselle, Enchanter Fiona, Chancellor Roderick, three arls, two counts, and some man named “Philip.” ㅤㅤ ㅤ Josephine: Honestly, I don’t think he even exists. [back to 1]
5 - End romance: We need to end things. PC: Josephine… I think we’ve grown too close. Josephine: Too close? Are you saying you wish to end our… our relationship?
Dialogue options:
- General: I’m sorry. [8]
- General: I’m afraid so. [9]
- General: I just don’t feel it. [10]
8 - General: I’m sorry. PC: One thing led to another. I didn’t set out to hurt either of us. Josephine: It’s become a touch too late to wish that!
9 - General: I’m afraid so. PC: You’ve seen to the heart of things. As always. Josephine: I find little delight in that!
10 - General: I just don’t feel it. PC: I won’t pretend to feelings I don’t have. Josephine: Well, I wish we’d discussed this earlier!
11 - Scene continues.
Josephine: I honestly thought you– (Sighs.) This is… quite ridiculous. If that’s your wish, we shall part ways. Do excuse me. I must gather my thoughts. Scene ends.
If the PC tries to talk to her again right after the breakup Josephine: Perhaps later, Your Worship.
An Unexpected Engagement
Terrible News
The PC enters Josephine’s office. They find Josephine standing near the door.
Josephine: There you are! I’ve been looking all over for you. I’ve just received the most terrible news.
PC: What is it?
Josephine pauses.
Josephine: I’m engaged!
Dialogue options:
- General: You can’t be! PC: When did this happen? ㅤㅤ ㅤ
- General: Start from the beginning. PC: I sense this is… complicated. Tell me more. ㅤㅤ ㅤ
- General: To who? PC: To… me?
Josephine: (Sighs in frustration.)
She crosses her arms and bins to pace.
Josephine: For the past year, my mother and father have searched Antiva for a match for me. They had no idea you and I had grown so… close. Today, I received a letter declaring they’ve betrothed me to Lord Adorno Ciel Otranto of Antiva. I must deal with this. But until then, we cannot be seen in a compromising situation. I’m so sorry.
1 - Dialogue options:
- Investigate: Are you leaving me? [2]
- General: I understand. [3]
- General: It must be a tricky prospect. [4]
- General: Do you even know him? [5]
2 - Investigate: Are you leaving me? PC: Are you saying we should act like nothing has happened between us? Josephine: No! No, not at all! But it is not right that we carry on while I am betrothed. I must break off the match first.
3 - General: I understand. PC: Let me know what I can do, Josephine. Josephine: No. Thank you so much, but no. Until I know more, I cannot risk your reputation. Why did this have to happen to us now, of all times? [6]
4 - General: It must be a tricky prospect. PC: I assume your parents have political alliances resting on this engagement? Josephine: For once, that is something quite far from my mind. This is not what I wanted to happen. I barely remember Lord Otranto! [6]
5 - General: Do you even know him? PC: Have you and this Antivan lord ever even met? Josephine: No! Perhaps… maybe at a cotillion some years ago? This is not what I wanted to happen. I barely remember Lord Otranto! [6]
6 - Scene continues.
She walk away, gesturing in exapseration.
Josephine: I must see to this. And to my other duties. If I can keep my mind on them today at all!
Untangling an Engagement
The PC speaks to Josephine again.
Josephine: Inquisitor. I’m afraid untangling my engagement to Lord Otranto will take some time.
PC: Is there anything I can do?
Josephine: He is Antivan. The only acceptable thing to do would be to challenge him to a duel for my favor.
Dialogue options:
- Underworld: I’ll find gossip on him. [1]
- General: Ensure it’s not to the death. [2]
- General: You are joking, right? [3]
- General: Done. [4]
1 - Underworld: I’ll find gossip on him. PC: Every family has scandals. I’ll find something to persuade Otranto to break off the match. Josephine: Please, Inquisitor, no! If Otranto found out, he’d challenge you to a duel. [5]
2 - General: Ensure it’s not to the death. PC: I don’t want to kill the man, but if fighting him to a standstill works, so be it. Josephine: What? No, Inquisitor, please! That was said in jest. [5]
3 - General: You are joking, right? PC: That was a joke, wasn’t it? Sometimes it’s hard to tell with you. Josephine: What? Of course it was a joke! [5]
4 - General: Done. PC: Arrange the duel with Lord Otranto, then. Josephine: What? No, Inquisitor, please! That was said in jest. [5]
5 - Scene continues.
Josephine: (Sighs.) The traditional form of dueling among Antivan nobles isn’t usually fatal, but there’s always a chance of harm. I hardly wish to see you skewered on a sword point for the sake of my honor.
About Lord Ontrato
Dialogue options:
- Investigate: I could duel Otranto for you. [1]
- Investigate: Tell me about your fiancé. [2]
- Investigate: Can’t you end the engagement. [3]
1 - Investigate: I could duel Otranto for you. PC: If I dueled this Lord Otranto, I could force him to give up his betrothal with you. Josephine: But you could be hurt! Dueling is a very precise sport. Men and women spend years perfecting their skills with a rapier. I couldn’t bear to think of my family putting you in any further danger. Again. [back to 1]
2 - Investigate: Tell me about your fiancé. PC: Tell me again about this Antivan lord your parents engaged you to. Josephine: Adorno Ciel Otranto? His family runs several shipping companies in Antiva that do very well. Of the man’s temper and disposition and habits? I know nothing. Well, Mother claims he enjoys sailing and dueling, but what Antivan lord doesn’t?
Dialogue options:
- Special: Do you want to marry him? [4]
- [Back to 1]
4 - Special: Do you want to marry him? PC: You don’t favor this marriage, Josephine, do you? Josephine: Certainly not! If I hadn’t met you, perhaps I’d have been amenable, but honestly. You’ve no worry. [back to 1]
3 - Investigate: Can’t you end the engagement. PC: Does Antiva law force you to marry? Can’t you break off the betrothal? Josephine: In theory, I very easily could. In reality, if I reject Lord Otranto without proper niceties, it will scar my family’s name. Perhaps ignite a feud. Disentangling myself from the engagement will take months. Or years.
Dialogue options:
- Special: What about our relationship? [5]
- [Back to 1]
5 - Special: What about our relationship? PC: While you’re worried about your family, what happens to us? Josephine: I cannot be with you until the question of this engagement is settled. It is not simply my own reputation. It is my family’s. I do not have the right to risk it. As… as much as I might wish to. Oh, why did this become so dreadfully complicated? [back to 1]
An Honorable Duel
After the PC completes the war table mission “Challenge Josephine’s Fiancé to a Duel,” an envoy arrives at Skyhold.
Messenger: Your Worship. May I deliver a message from Lord Adorno Ciel Otranto of Antiva? His lordship accepts your request for a duel for the affection of Lady Montilyet. He awaits your please in Val Royeaux.
Dialogue options:
- General: Convey my thanks. [1]
- General: That was easy enough. [2]
- General: He’s going to be awaiting my fist. [3]
1 - General: Convey my thanks. PC: Tell Lord Otranto I look forward to settling this honorably. At once, Inquisitor. [4]
2 - General: That was easy enough. PC: No protests? No outrage that I’m trying to steal Josephine from him? Quite the contrary, Inquisitor. Lord Otranto is greatly looking forward to his first duel of the month. May you enjoy safe passage to Val Royeaux, Your Worship. [4]
3 - General: He’s going to be awaiting my fist. PC: Your master had better bring a first-rate healer with him. The Otrantos do not fear a fair fight, but I will convey your… advice. Good day to you. [4]
4 - Scene continues.
The PC travels to Val Royeaux.
Otranto: I am Lord Otranto of Antiva, rightfully betrothed of Lady Josephine Montilyet.
Otranto bows slightly before taking a pair of swords from some nearby guards. He throws one to the PC.
Otranto: Songs of your exploits have spread to my city, Inquisitor. It’s humbling to make your acquaintance.
The begin to circle each other.
Otranto: It is a pity it will not last longer. Before we duel, I trust you find the weapon to your satisfaction?
Dialogue options:
- Investigate: What about my own weapons? [5]
- General: Rapiers will do. [6]
- General: If you must. [7]
- General: Let’s get to it. [8]
5 - Investigate: What about my own weapons? PC: Am I not allowed to pick my means of defense?
Mage PC Otranto: Hah! Aside from the fact that your mage fire may put me at a disadvantage?
Otranto: I am the wounded party in this duel. Tradition dictates that I select our weapons. Of course, if you fear you might be clumsy with such a refined instrument, there is no shame in a forfeit.
Dialogue options:
- General: Rapiers will do. [6]
- General: If you must. [7]
- General: No way. [9]
6 - General: Rapiers will do. PC: I trust you’ve made this a fair fight, Lord Otranto. Otranto: Upon my honor. Shall we begin? [10]
7 - General: If you must. PC: Rapiers will do, if you’re out of your depth with a more substantial weapon. Otranto*: (Laughs.)* Very good! Let us begin. [10]
8 - General: Let’s get to it. PC: Absolutely. Otranto: Then let us begin. [10]
9 - General: No way. PC: Not on your life. Otranto: Then let us begin. [10]
10 - Scene continues.
They begin to fight.
Otranto: An admirable start, Inquisitor!
Otranto (dwarf PC): And I was worried a civilized weapon might puzzle you, [Lady/Lord] Cadash! Otranto (Dalish PC): I assume your elven clan stumbled upon a practice sword one day in the woods. Otranto (Qunari PC): Perhaps not all Qunari are the simple peasants rumors paint them to be. Otranto (human PC): Perhaps House Trevelyan isn’t the obscure backwater I’ve heard it to be.
Otranto: I’m glad Lady Montilyet isn’t here, exquisite as I’ve heard her appearance to be.
He moves in on the PC.
Otranto: Cutting you down in front of Josephine would’ve given a poor first impression of House Otranto to my bride.
Dialogue options:
- Underworld: You’re a family of backstabbers. [11]
- General: She doesn’t want to marry you. [12]
- General: I’ll tell her about you once I win. [13]
- General: Stay away from her! [14]
11 - Underworld: You’re a family of backstabbers. PC: Strange. I would think the Otrantos already have enough blood on their hands after cheating the Terrazas. Otranto: Who told you— The PC shoves him back. Otranto: You dare to bring up that slander here? Otranto angrily goes at the PC again, and the PC slashes him across the arm. Otranto: Inquisitor, I will personally— [15]
12 - General: She doesn’t want to marry you. PC: Josephine doesn’t want this engagement. Call it off. Otranto shoves the PC back Otranto: To what purpose? You can’t think I’d— [15]
13 - General: I’ll tell her about you once I win. PC: Don’t worry. I’ll be sure to tell Josephine you fought bravely. Otranto shoves the PC back Otranto: I admire your fearlessness, but you cannot hope— [15]
14 - General: Stay away from her! PC: You won’t so much as touch her! Otranto shoves the PC back Otranto: Neither will you, Inquisitor, unless you— [15]
15 - Scene continues.
Josephine: Stop!
The PC and Otranto look over.
PC: Josephine!
Otranto: Lady Montilyet! What a pleasure to—
Josephine walks past him to the PC.
Josephine: What are you doing?
Dialogue options:
- General: Trying to help your family. [16]
- General: I can explain. [17]
- General: Dueling him for you. [18]
16 - General: Trying to help your family. PC: If I duel Otranto to stop your betrothal, any dishonor falls on me—not your family. Josephine: I would’ve found a way around it! [19]
17 - General: I can explain. PC: Lord Otranto and I are settling our differences about your betrothal…? Josephine: That’s not your decision! [19]
18 - General: Dueling him for you. PC: Josephine, I can’t take the chance that you might have to marry him! Josephine: That’s not your decision! [19]
19 - Scene continues.
Josephine: The Inquisition needs you. I need you! Yet you threw yourself into danger! Why do this? Why risk everything we’ve built? Why risk your life?
Dialogue options:
- End romance: You’re right. This was a mistake. (Break off your romantic relationship with Josephine.) [20]
- Flirt: Out of love! (Continue your romantic relationship with Josephine.) [21]
20 - End romance: You’re right. This was a mistake. PC: Apparently I didn’t think this through.
Josephine: Apparently not. Since we can’t see each other until the betrothal is annulled… we’d best end things on a more permanent basis.
Otranto: If you are no longer spoken for, Lady Montilyet, why abandon our engagement?
PC: You think she’ll marry you?
Otranto: Yes—will you marry me?
Otranto drops to one knee.
Josephine: I’m not marrying either of you!
She storms away.
Otranto: Well. That appears to be the end of that. A draw, then?
Dialogue options:
- General: Agreed. [22]
- General: Why make the day worse? [23]
- General: Absolutely not! [24]
22 - General: Agreed. PC: There’s no point in fighting over something already decided. Otranto: This was not how I envisioned the proceedings, either. At any rate, I believe the Otrantos will reconsider my engagement to Lady Josephine. Unless… do you know if she has a sister, perhaps? The PC throws their sword down and walks away. Scene ends. ㅤㅤ ㅤ 23 - General: Why make the day worse? PC: A draw. I see no reason to make an even larger fool of myself today. Otranto: This was not how I envisioned the proceedings, either. At any rate, I believe the Otrantos will reconsider my engagement to Lady Josephine. Unless… do you know if she has a sister, perhaps? The PC throws their sword down and walks away. Scene ends. ㅤㅤ ㅤ 24 - General: Absolutely not! PC: I will have satisfaction, Otranto, one way or another! Otranto: Ha! Let no fight go unfinished then, Inquisitor? Well, then: have at you! They continue the duel. Scene ends.
21 - Flirt: Out of love! PC: Because I love you!
Josephine: You… you do?
Otranto: [They do?]
The PC throws down their sword.
Dialogue options:
- General: Of course I do. PC: Yes, Josephine. I love you so much. ㅤㅤ ㅤ
- General: Apparently I do. PC: I wasn’t quite sure until I said it, but… yes. Yes, I love you. ㅤㅤ ㅤ
- General: You heard me. PC: And I mean it. Every word.
Josephine: I love you, too.
The PC spins Josephine in the air and they kiss.
Otranto: Well-fought.
Josephine: Lord Otranto—
Otranto: I’d assumed your liaison with the Inquisitor was an affair of passion or convenience, Lady Montilyet.
Otranto sheathes his sword.
Otranto: But I’m not fool enough to stand in the way of true affection. The Otrantos regretfully withdraw the terms of our betrothal.
Josephine: Thank you.
Otranto: Do not thank me. I know when I’m outmatched.
He bows and leaves.
Dialogue options:
- General: I should have mentioned the duel. [25]
- General: That ended incredibly well. [26]
- General: This is wonderful. [27]
25 - General: I should have mentioned the duel. PC: I’m sorry I didn’t tell you about arranging the duel. Josephine: Given that you’re in one piece, body and dignity, I forgive you. [28]
26 - General: That ended incredibly well. PC: I can’t imagine a better ending. But wouldn’t you be impressed by a dueling scar? Josephine: My dearest [lord/lady], I love you precisely the way you are. [28]
27 - General: This is wonderful. PC: Josephine, I’ve never been happier in my life. Josephine: We’re tempting fate with such talk. But neither have I. [28]
28 - Scene continues.
Josephine: Just do kiss me again.
They kiss.
Scene ends.
After the Excitement
Josephine snuggles up to the PC on a couch in the PC’s quarters.
Josephine: I can’t stop thinking about your duel in Val Royeaux. Running into the middle of the crowd, the noise, the swords flashing… I was so worried for you, but at the same time… well, it was the most exciting thing I’ve seen in ages.
Dialogue options:
- General: I’m glad you’re not cross with me. [1]
- General: Really? Most exciting? [2]
- General: You need to get out more. [3]
1 - General: I’m glad you’re not cross with me. PC: I was worried you’d still be angry that I started that duel in the first place. Josephine: I was only worried for your safety. Your position allows for so little of it. [4]
2 - General: Really? Most exciting? PC: You do remember what this Inquisition has been doing, don’t you? Josephine: Allow me to correct myself: the most exciting thing I have seen that didn’t threaten to stop my heart. [4]
3 - General: You need to get out more. PC: If that’s the case, I think you’re spending too much time indoors. Josephine: It is your Inquisition that keeps me so busy. [4]
4 - Scene continues.
PC: Josephine: You know, when I first laid eyes on you back at Haven, I hadn’t an inkling we’d become so close.
Dialogue options:
- General: Neither did I. [5]
- General: Did you think I was good-looking? [6]
- General: I think I knew. [7]
5 - General: Neither did I. PC: I didn’t either, at first. Josephine: Then it’s astounding either of us realized we had feelings for each other at all. [8]
6 - General: Did you think I was good-looking? PC (male PC): But you at least told yourself “My, what a stunningly handsome man”? PC (female PC): At least tell me your breath was stolen away by my incredible beauty.
Josephine: You are too much. [8]
7 - General: I think I knew. PC: Something suggested you were special the moment I saw you. Josephine: I’m glad it did. [8]
8 - Scene continues.
Josephine: These moments seem so dear. Especially given your greater calling. Sometimes I must remind myself that I’m required to share you with the rest of the world.
Dialogue options:
General: I’m always yours. [9] General: Not all the time. [10] General: Then keep me close. [11]
9 - General: I’m always yours. PC: The world may want my time, Josephine, but you have my heart. Josephine: Then I count myself happy. Beyond compare. Scene ends.
10 - General: Not all the time. PC: Hang the world. It can survive without the Inquisitor and Josephine now and then. Josephine: For now… I very much agree. Scene ends.
11 - General: Then keep me close. PC: If that’s the case, you really should learn to be more selfish. Josephine: I’m willing to make an attempt. Scene ends.
