Personal Quest

The Verchiel March

Back to Sera Directory

A Favor

Sera: Hey, you! I have an “Inquisitor favor” to ask. Just a little thing, really. A little march-around for some of your people. It’s nothing for you, right?

Dialogue options:

  • General: Resources are precious. [1]
  • General: I’m listening. [2]
  • General: Details first. [3]

1 - General: Resources are precious. PC: I can’t promise anything. We need every resource for the task at hand. Sera: Everything has to have a purpose, right? Well, don’t worry, this will, too. [4]

2 - General: I’m listening. PC: All right, let’s hear what you’ve got. Sera: Jump right in, huh? I like that. [4]

3 - General: Details first. PC: I won’t agree to anything without details. Sera: Smart of you. I wouldn’t dream of wasting your super-important time. [4]

4 - Scene continues.

Sera: It’s a Red Jenny thing. I got a tip that some noble stiffs are arguing over Verchiel. Land squabble. They’re getting little people beat up, so I need you to go to your big table and send some people to walk through town.

PC: Just walk through?

Sera: Just walk through. Easy, right?

5 - Dialogue options:

  • Investigate: Who told you about this? [6]
  • Investigate: Who would I be working for? [7]
  • Investigate: What’s in it for me? [8]
  • General: I’ll have people take a look. [9]
  • General: I can’t do this now. [10]

6 - Investigate: Who told you about this? PC: Was this a tip from one of your “friends”? Sera: Not a Jenny. Just normal angry people getting sick of being in the middle. I don’t usually hear about things this far away, but having a friend like you is like getting real big ears.

Sera (Dalish PC): Bigger than normal, I guess, because we both… never mind. [back to 5] Sera (non-Dalish PC): Bigger ears, I guess. Shut up. [back to 5]

7 - Investigate: Who would I be working for? PC: Who is asking for this? Sera: I’m asking, because I heard people complaining. See, when nobles fight, it’s not them. It’s their little people stuck in the middle. It’s like a polite war, so no one pays attention. But if you march through, the people up top feel threatened, too. Stuff like this is always happening. Good sovereigns to be made if you’re one of the few who notice. [back to 5]

8 - Investigate: What’s in it for me? PC: What does the Inquisition get out of this? Sera: Nobles think everyone is out to get them, so when your helmets march through, both sides’ll think the other’s your ally. Both get scared, both make deals. Worst case, you get a little bump among the people just because they see you active. Can’t promise anything, but something will happen. Just like always. [back to 5]

9 - General: I’ll have people take a look. PC: All right, Sera. I’ll have someone look into it. Sera: It’s fun, right? Being important without doing a thing? Well, not much of a thing. Not everything has to be torn skies and ancient arseholes. Every little thing makes a difference somewhere. Scene ends.

10 - General: I can’t do this now. PC: I can’t commit people to something like this just out of the blue. Sera: Fair enough, I suppose. I mean, you’re busy. It’s hard to find time to tell people to do one thing. That was me saying the opposite of what I meant, yeah? Because this is easy? Never mind. I bet it’ll stew for a while if you change your mind. Idiots don’t calm down on their own. Scene ends.

If the PC talks to Sera again after declining the quest Sera: You ready to listen to that territory squabble thing in Verchiel? It’s a pissy noble thing. [5]

Deal Gone Bad

Sera: I hear Verchiel was good pay for you, Inquisitor. Time to go see if my friends came through too. Got a location for a stash. Hopefully something nice for my trouble. Well. Your trouble. Just let me know when you’re ready to head out. Be sure to bring your empty pockets.

1 - Dialogue options:

  • Investigate: Who is paying us? [2]
  • General: Let’s go now. [3]
  • General: Not yet. [4]

2 - Investigate: Who is paying us? PC: Who is putting up the reward for this? Sera: Don’t know. Sometimes it’s “pass the hat,” sometimes it’s “I lifted this from master’s vault.” Doesn’t matter, does it? Job done, time to get what we’re owed.

3 - General: Let’s go now. PC: I’m ready if you are. Sera: Always, yeah? My favorite part, this. Let’s go see what friends can get us. [5]

4 - General: Not yet. PC: I’m not ready to go just yet. Sera: Your choice, yeah? Only so long it’ll stay hidden. Scene ends.

If the PC talks to Sera again Sera: Still waiting to go get that reward for marching through Verchiel. Got something against free money? [back to 1]

5 - Scene continues.

The PC and Sera arrive at a remote bit of woods.

Sera: Wait, this is weird.

PC: What?

The stop walking.

Sera: I was expecting a village or something. The people that leave me stuff don’t trek out to places like this. Give me a city, and I’ll give you a tour, but—surprise, surprise—I don’t know stupid woods or ruins.

A man approaches them.

Man: Don’t hurt me! Harmond made me do it!

Dialogue options:

  • General: Calm down, I can help. [6]
  • General: Of course it’s gone wrong. [7]
  • General: What are you doing here? [8]

6 - General: Calm down, I can help. PC: Quiet yourself, we’re here to help. Man: Help? Had enough help. I complain about a fight, and suddenly I’m an agent or something? Sera: You were the one with the rumor out of Verchiel? My friend? [9]

7 - General: Of course it’s gone wrong. PC: Right, things have gone sour. As they do. Man: No, no! It has to go right, or he’ll kill me for the marching. It wasn’t my fault! Sera: You were the one with the rumor out of Verchiel? My friend? [9]

8 - General: What are you doing here? PC: What’s your name, and why are you here? Man: He made me come. Said I had to lead him to her, because I said things. It was just bar talk! Sera: This was supposed to be a simple drop. What’s going on? [9]

9 - Scene continues.

Man: You’re her? You’re the one he’s waiting for!

He runs off yelling, and get shot by two arrows. The PC and Sera are attacked. Another man calls out after the fight.

Harmond: Whoa-ho-ho! Hold on! I was not aware the Inquisitor was personally involved! This is a tragic misunderstanding! Let’s all sheath our swords, you walk out, and we’ll conduct this like business!

Sera: Don’t believe this pissbag. He started it.

Harmond

The PC approaches a noble standing nearby.

Harmond: There. That wasn’t so hard, was it? We identified the confusion, and we worked past it. I’m Lord Pel Harmond. I do hope, Inquisitor, that you continue to respond to reason. After all, your choice of company is hardly virtuous.

Sera: Frigging user, you are. Another noble prick who punches down!

Harmond: We’re the same, you and I. Well, that is overstating it. You are nothing like me. But we both need people.

Dialogue options:

  • General: That’s my ally you attacked. [1]
  • General: You started this. [2]
  • General: What do you want? [3]

1 - General: That’s my ally you attacked. PC: You want to talk now, but Sera is my ally. You attacked her “friends.” Harmond: Come now, you know how much her meddling cost me? Because apparently you were complicit. [4]

2 - General: You started this. PC: This ambush was your doing, or am I remembering that wrong? Harmond: Granted, it wasn’t a direct attack, but the first move was hers and, apparently, yours. [4]

3 - General: What do you want? PC: Well? Say your piece. Harmond: Of course. No more rash mistakes. [4]

4 - Scene continues.

Harmond: Honestly, previous to this very moment, I thought you’d also been tricked by these Red Jennies.

Harmond (human PC): You’re of noble birth, and as Inquisitor, you are more than a peer. I attacked them on behalf of us both Harmond (non-human PC): Despite your “foreign” nature, as Inquisitor, you are a social peer. I attacked them on behalf of us both.

Sera: Arse-biscuit!

Harmond: Quite. Inquisitor? Herald. I don’t want to be your enemy. I am barely invested in being hers. If you are willing to recognize an opportunity, we could be exceptional partners.

5 - Dialogue options:

  • Investigate: What was going on in Verchiel? [6]
  • Investigate: What can you commit to us? [7]
  • Investigate: You killed innocent contacts. [8]
  • Investigate: What do you expect in return? [9]
  • Nobility: You’ll serve the Inquisition. [10] +Sera approves
  • General: I’d like to partner with you. [11] -Sera disapproves
  • General: Just get out of my sight. [12]
  • General: Just kill him, Sera. [13] +Sera approves

6 - Investigate: What was going on in Verchiel? PC: You were up to something in Verchiel, Harmond. What was it? Harmond: If you mean “bettering my wealth and position,” I am always seeking that. Sera: By getting people hurt! Harmond: (Sighs.) Lady Chelle Morveau and I were jockeying for the land south of Verchiel. To claim land, you must populate it. My people encouraged hers to leave. Her people answered in kind. Et cetera. Really, it was all terribly standard displacement until your troops “seemed” to change the balance. Well played. [14]

7 - Investigate: What can you commit to us? PC: What would you be willing to commit to the Inquisition? Sera: Why even ask? Harmond: Because a leader needs such information to make informed decisions. My family has ties across lower Ferelden. Our presence in Orlais is recent, which is why I resorted to subterfuge. We have militia elsewhere, and they can be made expendable for your purposes. [14]

8 - Investigate: You killed innocent contacts. PC: The servants you killed, they did nothing except talk about what was going on. Sera: You killed my contacts. My friends. Harmond: That is entirely true. Sera: Well, that should be that, then! Harmond: You’re the one who empowered them. Made their complaints a threat. Perhaps you should have warned them about talking to you. [14]

9 - Investigate: What do you expect in return? PC: Nothing is free. What do you expect from the Inquisition? Harmond: Access, Inquisitor. Your diplomat is wisely selective. Sera: Josie has better taste than him, yeah? Harmond: Lady Montilyet knows a wise acquisition. Or perhaps can be made to see one. [14]

14 - Scene continues.

First “investigate” Sera: Stop talking to him. Really, just stop it. [back to 5]

Second “investigate” Sera: Tell this snot-splash no, already! Not saying again! [back to 5]

Third “investigate” Sera: Three, two, frigging done! [15]

10 - Nobility: You’ll serve the Inquisition. PC: A partnership gets me your enemies. I need the territory. Sera: What are you doing? He’s half the mess in Verchiel. PC: And now his job is recruiting the other. Consider your lands and title requisitioned. You opened the bargaining. Think of your immediate options. Harmond: Surprising, disappointing, but also welcome over the alternative. Sera: (Laughs.) Won’t be hearing from you again. Harmond: Be sure to return the favor. Sera: Ppppbth! Scene ends.

11 - General: I’d like to partner with you. PC: I need every advantage. I think we can come to an arrangement. Sera: What? PC: We can come to an arrangement. Sera: But the people he killed? Harmond: Regrettable, but a lesson for us both to investigate our targets. Let them live on in our profits. Sera: You are both shitbags. Sera walks away. Harmond: My people will message yours, Inquisitor. It’s good to know our future is in rational hands. Scene ends.

12 - General: Just get out of my sight. PC: No deal, but no more killing either. Just get out of here. Harmond: Surprising, disappointing, but also welcome over the alternative. Sera: Like fun it is. Harmond: Don’t worry. I’m as good as dead to you. I certainly won’t be seeking out more of your people. Be sure to return the favor. Scene ends.

13 - General: Just kill him, Sera. The PC nods at Sera. [15]

15 - Scene continues.

Sera throws a knife at Harmond. It falls to the ground, and Harmond picks it up.

Harmond: Now, what was the point of that?

Sera kicks him in the groin.

Harmond: (Grunts.)

He falls to the ground as Sera continues to knee him on the face.

Sera: Mother pusbucket frigging bastard shitebag pissface! Eat it, you lop-eared, son of an arse-nut rot-suck piece of… ugh!

PC: Sera… Sera!

Sera: What?

Dialogue options:

  • Angry (after third “investigate”): I wasn’t done with him! [16] -Sera disapproves
  • Angry: That’s enough! [17]
  • Stoic: It’s over. Calm down. [18]
  • Surprised: I think he’s dead. [19]

16 - Angry: I wasn’t done with him! PC: What are you doing? He might have been useful! Sera: You don’t listen to his type! They get in your head! PC: I decide that, do you understand? Sera: Loud and clear, yeah? Clearer than it’s been. [28]

17 - Angry: That’s enough! PC: Stop it, we’re done here! Sera: Fine! [20]

18 - Stoic: It’s over. Calm down. PC: He’s done. You’re done. Relax. It’s over. Sera: Pisshead. [20]

19 - Surprised: I think he’s dead. PC: I think you’re done. At this point you’re making wine. Sera: Eww! That makes it worse. [20]

20 - Scene continues.

Sera: Friends, Inquisitor. Better than his lot any day.

Back at Skyhold

The PC and Sera meet in her room.

Choice dependent dialogue:

  • PC told Sera to kill Harmond [1]
  • Harmond serves the Inquisition [2]
  • Sera killed Harmond unprompted [3]
  • PC let Harmond go [4]
  • PC made a deal with Harmond [5]

1 - PC told Sera to kill Harmond Sera: Hey, you. Know what? Thanks. Felt good to stomp the smile off that pisshead’s face. It doesn’t go bad like that often, yeah? But when it does, they deserve it. [6]

2 - Harmond serves the Inquisition Sera: There’s you. How was that Harmond mess, huh? I should be angry you let him live, but his kind really hate a leash. I mean, he deserved worse for turning it all bad, but we made out just fine. Good one, you. [6]

6 - Dialogue options:

  • General: This was your fault, too. [7] -Sera slightly disapproves
  • General: No more mistakes, understand? [8] -Sera greatly disapproves
  • General: Unpredictable but worth it. [9] +Sera greatly approves

7 - General: This was your fault, too. PC: Don’t get full of yourself. This was as much your fault as his. Sera: I’m sorry, what are you on about? Because that excuse for a person was a fully vetted arsehole. You’re sure as piss not putting me next to him. [14] ㅤㅤ ㅤ 8 - General: No more mistakes, understand? PC: This was very nearly a disaster. Never again. Sera: Well, sure, you deal with shite like… PC: I don’t want to hear it. I’m leading too many people to put up with this.

Sera (high approval): You are blood lucky you’re still on my good side. Because I’d… something. [21] Sera (low approval): Pissing me right off, Inquisitor. We keep up like this, it’s… well it’s not good, right? [21] ㅤㅤ ㅤ 9 - General: Unpredictable but worth it. PC: Risky, but keep it within the Inquisition, and I’ll support you. Sera: Even though this puckered around us? PC: Even so. Sera: Well. Good then. [24]

3 - Sera killed Harmond unprompted Sera: What? What do you want? Because I’m still angry. Angry face. And you should thank me for stomping the smile off that arse. He was getting in your head. [10]

4 - PC let Harmond go Sera: What? What do you want? Because I’m still angry. Angry face. You let that pisshead go. You know he’s just going to play his game somewhere else. That’s what they do. [10]

5 - PC made a deal with Harmond Sera: What? What do you want? Because I’m still angry. Angry face. You made a deal with that pisshead. After everything, you made a deal. What is wrong with you? [10]

10 - Dialogue options:

  • General: This was your fault. [11] -Sera slightly disapproves
  • General: Don’t question me! [12] -Sera greatly disapproves
  • General: You’re right, I’m sorry. [13] +Sera greatly approves

11 - General: This was your fault. PC: Don’t judge my decision. You’re the one who messed up. Sera: I’m sorry, what are you on about? Because that excuse for a person was a fully vetted arsehole. You’re sure as piss not putting me next to him. [14]

12 - General: Don’t question me! PC: I don’t tolerate people questioning my decision. Sera: But that was just… PC: I don’t want to hear it. I’m leading too many people to put up with this.

Sera (high approval): You are blood lucky you’re still on my good side. Because I’d… something. [21] Sera (low approval): Pissing me right off, Inquisitor. We keep up like this, it’s… well it’s not good, right? [21]

13 - General: You’re right, I’m sorry. PC: I did what I thought was best. It wasn’t ideal, and I apologize. Sera: What? Really? PC: Really. Sera: Well. Good, then. [24]

14 - Dialogue options:

  • General: You put your people in danger. [15] -Sera disapproves
  • General: Your plan provoked him. [16] -Sera disapproves
  • General: Never mind, I’m dropping it. [17] +Sera greatly approves

15 - General: You put your people in danger. PC: I’m more concerned that your “friends” didn’t know what they were getting into. You risked their lives for this scheme. Sera: Don’t turn this around. Yes, they got hurt for talking. But what were they supposed to do? They were already being hurt. And who made it necessary to speak up? That noble arsehole, that’s who. And that was just the one we flushed out. You’d rather do nothing than try and make this better? [18]

16 - General: Your plan provoked him. PC: You had me march my people through his territory. That provoked him. If we’d stayed out, it might’ve stayed peaceful. Sera: What? I don’t even know what to say to that. “Let the bad man do what he wants, or he’ll get worse”? What kind of lay-down-and-take-it shite is that? You’d rather do nothing than try and make this better? [18]

18 - Dialogue options:

  • General: You don’t help anyone! [19] -Sera disapproves
  • General: It’s about the greater good. [20] -Sera disapproves
  • General: Never mind, I’m dropping it. [17] +Sera greatly approves

19 - General: You don’t help anyone! PC: How are you making things better? What have you done for anyone? Sera: I make sure these arseholes pay. PC: While filling your pockets. Sera: Well, maybe, but… but… Know what? You go suck frigging eggs. I take back. No, I don’t change the world, but that’s hard, right? Even for Heralds, or you’re lying! [21]

20 - General: It’s about the greater good. PC: I have to think about the Inquisition and how all the bigger pieces fit together. Sera: See this eye? You’re making it twitch. Because that’s stupid. Sometimes I cock things up, right? But at least I’m doing something. The greater good can frig it.

Sera (high approval): You are blood lucky you’re still on my good side. Because I’d… something. [21] Sera (low approval): Pissing me right off, Inquisitor. We keep up like this, it’s… well it’s not good, right? [21]

21 - Dialogue options:

  • Get out. (Sera leaves the Inquisition forever.) [22]
  • Watch yourself. (Sera stays with the Inquisition) [23]

22 - Get out. PC: I’m not putting up with this. The Inquisition… I don’t need you. Sera: But… You know what? Good. The way you’re going? It’s shit. We meet again, Inquisitor? Watch your breeches, because… ah, frig it. Not worth it. Sera leaves the Inquisition.

23 - Watch yourself. PC: I need all the help I can get, but consider this a warning. Sera: Well, understood. Hop-to and all that. If you need me, I’ll be waiting for some barking arse to give me orders. So hard to get? Stupid… everyone. Scene ends.

17 - General: Never mind, I’m dropping it. PC: You know what? Never mind. I’m letting it go. I don’t want to fight. Sera: Well, how generous. Thanks, I guess? [24]

24 - Scene continues.

Sera: Right, what do you mean, because I am really not used to that… acceptance thing you’re doing right there.

Dialogue options:

  • Flirt: It’s simple. I like you. [25] +Sera slightly approves (female Dalish/human PC) +Sera approves (female Qunari/dwarf PC)
  • General: It’s business. I need allies. [26]
  • General: I want us to be friends. [27] +Sera slightly approves

25 - Flirt: It’s simple. I like you. PC: I don’t want this to get in the way of you staying. I like having you here.

Sera (male PC): Ohhh. No, we have… too much in common, yeah? Because we both like women? So… right. Not letting you take back the “staying” part, though.

Sera (female Qunari PC): Oh-ho-ho! Yes, that’s, um. Woof. Sera (female dwarf PC): You’re just the cutest little… (Chuckles.) Sera (female Dalish PC): Mmh, maybe? Sera (female human PC): I could see that, “Lady” Trevelyan. I could.

26 - General: It’s business. I need allies. We’ll have some differences, but I want to be one of your friends. Sera: You’re pretty big to be one of my contacts. Important, I mean. Not fat. But all right, Inquisitor.

27 - General: I want us to be friends. PC: You scratch my back, I’ll scratch yours. The Inquisition needs everyone. Sera: So there’s scratching… ? You sound more “touched” than ever, but have it your way.

28 - Scene continues.

Sera (high approval): You’re on my good side. We’ll see if it lasts. Sera (low approval): But you keep pissing me off, then something bad. Probably.

Special: Is Your Group Still Active?

PC: Is your network of contacts still active after what happened?

If asked before. Sera: Yes, what about it?

Sera: After Lord Arsehole in Verchiel? Of course. He may have killed people, but that just means there’s more who hate him.

Sera (Told Sera to kill Harmond/Harmond serves the Inquisition): It’s crap that he killed people, though. They were just trying to stand up a little. Sera (PC tried talking to/made deal with Harmond/let Harmond go): You should be one of them. But maybe not. So watch out for that?

  • Investigate: Do your pranks achieve much?

PC: We annoyed some nobles. Does that really help all that much?

Sera (Harmond serves the Inquisition): Gets you paid, for one. You seem happy enough about that. Sera (Harmond killed): It helped make a dead idiot. That’s good return for time. Sera (deal made with Harmond/Harmond let go): We’d have “helped” more if you hadn’t been so chummy.

Sera: I don’t get what’s hard to understand. Your stuff works the same. Your Inquisition, I mean. Punch a bully, people like you. Do it because they asked. Or let them think they asked, they like it even more. It’s inspiring, even if it sometimes goes tits up and they take a hit back. You know, like Haven?

1 - Dialogue options:

  • Investigate: How are you still alive? [2]
  • Investigate: You think you inspire like me? [3]
  • General (Andrastian PC): I’m Herald. You’re a thief. [4] -Sera slightly disapproves
  • General: That’s actually a fair point. [5] +Sera slightly approves
  • General: You believe weird things. [6] -Sera slightly disapproves

2 - Investigate: How are you still alive? PC: It must have gone wrong before. How many times have you almost died? Sera: What fight were you in? We didn’t almost die. Besides, I only have to start these punch-ups.

PC (Harmond killed): What do you mean? You killed Harmond. PC (Harmond alive): You would have killed Harmond if I’d let you.

Sera: Sure, sometimes I plonk one, but you know what it takes to be a noble? Everyone says, “He’s a noble.” That’s all a title is. So, I slap someone, make them look stupid for just a second. All of a sudden, he doesn’t look so nobley or scary. Maybe the servants rebel, whatever, but know what really gets them? Other nobles. They blame the slappee for being slapped. They’re shits like that. So, it’s… backwards inspiration. Sort of? Still works like yours does. [back to 1]

3 - Investigate: You think you inspire like me? PC: So, you think that what you do is just as inspiring as what I do? Sera: I said it works the same. Because if you’re boot-on-your-neck poor, nobles and Coryus don’t look much different. They sure as piss look closer to each other than they do to real people. So, yes, I inspire. Little pockets of inspire… ation. [back to 1]

4 - General: I’m Herald. You’re a thief. PC: There’s a difference. I’m Andraste’s Herald. You’re not. Sera: Acting snotty like that is why Chantry tits lost control of everything and we’re all in this mess. So maybe don’t be like that? Because Andraste might have a Herald, but she sure don’t have a Prick. Because she’s got a… oh, frig, don’t act like that neither. That wouldn’t be better. Scene ends.

5 - General: That’s actually a fair point. PC: I get it. Kind of. We just don’t think of what you do as that kind of inspiration. Sera: Well “we” should take a good hard look at where “our” people come from. All the same people.

Sera (female PC if flirted before): It’s you that’s weird. I kind of like it. Surprise to me too, yeah? Sera: At least my baddies are understandable. No “kicking in the sky” there. Scene ends.

6 - General: You believe weird things. PC: You really work hard to make it seem like what you do makes sense. Sera: Right, because sense is what everything makes. Look at you, making sense. At Coryphelus and his sky-hole. Sense is not required for stuff to happen. And that’s not my rule. Scene ends.
