Low Approval: How Does It Feel?
The PC finds Solas in the rotunda.
Solas: Inquisitor. Tell me. How does it feel?
PC: How does what feel?
Solas: Being you. Are you blissfully unaware or, deep inside, is some part of you banging on the walls, screaming?
Dialogue options:
- General: What did I do? [1]
- General: Fine, thanks. [2]
- General: Spit it out. [3] -Solas slightly disapproves
1 - General: What did I do? PC: Have I offended you in some way, Solas? Solas: Oh, in some way, yes. [4]
2 - General: Fine, thanks. PC: Being me feels great. Like pulling on a warm pair of stockings. Solas: Continue with your merry japes. It would be sad were you forced to examine yourself with a critical eye. [4]
3 - General: Spit it out. PC: If you have a problem, say it. I don’t have time for your feelings. Solas: Of course. Any criticism must be the crazy knife-ear whining. [4]
4 - Choice dependent dialogue:
- PC claimed chosen [5]
- Mages conscripted [6]
- Templars allied [7]
- Wardens allied [8]
- None of the above [9]
5 - PC claimed chosen Solas: Although I should watch my tone. I speak to a demigod, after all. The Chosen of Andraste. Do you enjoy the worship? Does it make you feel infallible, or do you see them as fools, gullible for their belief?
Dialogue options:
- General: I’m giving them hope. [10] +Solas slightly approves
- General: I believe. [11] -Solas slightly disapproves
- General: The lie is useful. [12] -Solas disapproves
- General: This conversation is over. [24] -Solas greatly disapproves
10 - General: I’m giving them hope. PC: I don’t know if you’ve noticed, but people could use something to believe in. Solas: You give them a lie. Pride, defense, love of family, even the concept of the Inquisition… those are real things! You do them no favors by keeping them ignorant. But then, ignorance must be so appealing to you. [9]
11 - General: I believe. PC: You’re welcome to think whatever you like. I believe I was chosen. Solas: So your great Maker will stop anything terrible from happening. How’s that working so far? [9]
12 - General: The lie is useful. PC: I don’t get to be picky about the tools I use. If the story gets me more allies for this fight, I’ll use it. Solas: You’re not gaining allies. You’re gaining minions. Sheep driven by one false god to fearfully follow another. [9]
6 - Mages conscripted Solas: Are you relieved to have mages back under control? Perhaps when you’re done, you can leash them like Qunari do.
Dialogue options:
- General: It had to be done. [13]
- General: Mages earned their reputation. [14] -Solas slightly disapproves
- General: The Qunari have a point. [15] -Varric greatly disapproves
- General: This conversation is over. [24] -Solas greatly disapproves
13 - General: It had to be done. PC: Perhaps someday we won’t need the Circle. Right now, mages are too dangerous. Solas: Of course they are. They’ve been locked in a tower and told they’re monsters all their lives. [16]
14 - General: Mages earned their reputation. PC: I wouldn’t have had to do that if mages hadn’t blown up quite so many chantries. Solas: Yes, I’m certain they did that with no provocation. [16]
15 - General: The Qunari have a point. PC: I don’t hear of mages blowing things up where the Qunari rule. Solas: Of course. Everyone is happy under the Qun. What’s the sacrifice of a few lives to keep people from discomfort? [16]
16 - Scene continues.
Solas (Wardens allied): Why am I surprised? You supported the Grey Wardens. Their blind zealotry must be a solace. [9]
7 - Templars allied Solas: Are you glad to have the templars back at your side? A strong, proud organization founded on the fear of magic. What a wonderful job it has done.
Dialogue options:
- General: They protect us. [17] -Solas slightly disapproves
- General: We need their skills. [18] +Solas slightly approves
- General: We need warm bodies. [19] -Solas slightly disapproves
- General: This conversation is over. [24] -Solas greatly disapproves
17 - General: They protect us. PC: The templars protect people! Solas: Yes! From thinking! [20]
18 - General: We need their skills. PC: The templars have their faults, but I suspect we’re going to be fighting more mages before this ends. Solas: Templars could have helped as part of the Inquisition, not as a separate entity dedicated to spreading fear. [20]
19 - General: We need warm bodies. PC: The templars are a tool. I needed them intact. Solas: Regardless of the long-term consequences of their divisive goals. [20]
20 - Scene continues.
Solas (Wardens allied): Why am I surprised? You supported the Grey Wardens. Their blind zealotry must be a solace. [9]
8 - Wardens allied Solas: Are you pleased to have the Grey Wardens on your side? Do you wish you could join their proud little cult? How long, do you think, before their next attempt to control something beyond their comprehension?
Dialogue options:
- General: You are too hard on them. [21] -Solas disapproves
- General: You think you know a lot? [22] -Solas disapproves
- General: We need them. [23] +Solas slightly approves
- General: This conversation is over. [24] -Solas greatly disapproves
21 - General: You are too hard on them. PC: The Wardens deserved a chance to redeem themselves. Solas: Their only purpose is to protect the world from something they do not understand, something that corrupts them! [9]
22 - General: You think you know a lot? PC: So you’re an expert on the Blight now, not just the Fade? Or are you just an authority on everything strange? Solas: If current wisdom suggests you corrupt yourself with darkspawn blood, any suggestion I offer would have to be better. [9]
23 - General: We need them. Grey Wardens know more about the Blight than anyone else. They’re our best hope of fighting it. Solas: If that is true, then… (Sighs.) Let us hope otherwise. For all our sakes. [9]
24 - General: This conversation is over. PC: I don’t answer to you, Solas, and I don’t have time for this. Solas: Of course, Inquisitor. I won’t interrupt you further. Solas walks away. Scene ends.
9 - Scene continues.
Solas: I should thank you, Inquisitor. I had spent time with few of your people before this. From the stories, I thought you all thuggish, simple, and crude. Now?
Solas (killed the demon during All New, Faded For Her): After seeing you heroically defend the helpless mages from a demon they themselves unleashed? Solas (killed the sentinels at the Temple of Mythal): After observing you strike down some of the few true elves left for the crime of defending their temple?
Solas: Now I know I was right. You have no idea what a comfort that is.
Dialogue options:
- General: So you’re leaving? [25] -Solas disapproves
- General: Good for you. [26] -Solas disapproves
- General: [Hit Solas.] [27] +Solas greatly approves [this one is confusing - the game files say greatly disapproves, but some people’s games says greatly approves.]
25 - General: So you’re leaving? PC; I’m sorry you feel that way, Solas. Will you be taking your leave? Solas: No. PC: No? Solas: We have a world to save. Until I see a better option, I will stay and lend my services to this Inquisition. Perhaps one day you will even listen. Solas walks away. Scene ends.
26 - General: Good for you. PC: Happy to help, Solas. We should do this more often. Solas: We truly should. Solas walks away. Scene ends.
27 - General: [Hit Solas.] PC: (Breathes.) The PC punches Solas in the face. Solas: (Grunts.) Solas stumbles, and then stands back up clutching his face. Solas: How entirely expected. By your leave, Inquisitor. Solas walks away. Scene ends.
Warm Approval: Felt The Whole World Change
Special: Tell me more about yourself.
PC: I’m interested in what you told me of yourself and your studies. If you have time, I’d like to hear more.
Solas: You continue to surprise me. All right, let us talk… preferably somewhere more interesting than this.
The scene cuts to them walking through Haven.
PC: Why here?
Solas: Haven is familiar. It will always be important to you.
PC: We talked about that already.
They enter the cells below the chantry.
Solas: I sat beside you while you slept, studying the Anchor.
Dialogue options:
- General: Thank you. [1]
- General: That must have been quick. [2] +Solas slightly approves
- General: We’re not here for me. [3] -Solas slightly disapproves
1 - General: Thank you. PC: I’m glad someone was watching over me. Solas: You were a mystery. You still are. [4]
2 - General: That must have been quick. PC: How long can it take to look at a mark on my hand? Solas: A magical mark of unknown origin, tied to a unique breach in the Veil? Longer than you might think. [4]
3 - General: We’re not here for me. PC: I wanted to know more about you. Solas: This is about me. [4]
4 - Scene continues.
Solas: I ran every test I could imagine, searched the Fade, yet found nothing. Cassandra suspected duplicity. She threatened to have me executed as an apostate if I didn’t produce results.
Dialogue options:
- General: I wouldn’t allow that. [5]
- General: Of course she did. [6] +Solas slightly approves
- General: It got results. [7] -Solas slightly disapproves
5 - General: I wouldn’t allow that. PC: I would never have agreed to that. Solas: You were in no position to argue. [8]
6 - General: Of course she did. PC: Cassandra’s like that with everyone. Solas: Yes. (Chuckles.) [8]
7 - General: It got results. PC: The threat worked. Solas: No, it didn’t. [8]
8 - Scene continues.
They leave.
Solas: You were never going to wake up. How could you, a mortal sent physically through the Fade? I was frustrated, frightened. The spirits I might have consulted had been driven away by the Breach. Although I wished to help, I had no faith in Cassandra… or she in me. I was ready to flee.
Dialogue options:
- General: You didn’t. [9]
- General: Where to? [10] +Solas slightly approves
- General: You were smart not to. [11]
9 - General: You didn’t. PC: But you stayed. Solas: I did. [12]
10 - General: Where to? PC: The Breach threatened the whole world. Where did you plan to go? Solas: Someplace far away where I might research a way to repair the Breach before its effects reached me. I never said it was a good plan. [12]
11 - General: You were smart not to. PC: If you’d run, Cassandra would have been certain of your guilt. She’d have hunted you down. Solas: You are likely right. [12]
12 - Scene continues.
Solas: I told myself: one more attempt to seal the rifts. I tried and failed. No ordinary magic would affect them. I watched the rifts expand and grow, resigned myself to flee, and then…
There’s a flash back to the moment Solas thrusts’ the PC’s hand at the first rift.
Solas: It seems you hold the key to our salvation. You had sealed it with a gesture… and right then, I felt the whole world change.
Dialogue options:
- Surprised: This mattered to you? [13]
- Confused: This isn’t how it happened. [14]
- Stoic: I’m glad you stayed. [15]
- Flirt: You care about me? [16]
13 - Surprised: This mattered to you? PC: It was that impressive to see me awake? Solas: You had walked in the Fade. I have explored the Fade more than anyone alive, but even I can only visit in dreams. But you… you might have been able to visit me here while awake. PC: What do you mean? [17]
14 - Confused: This isn’t how it happened. PC; You didn’t say it that way, I don’t think. You just… said it. Solas: Is that how you remember it? That is what I mean about perception shaping our existence. PC: But that’s only true in the Fade. [17]
15 - Stoic: I’m glad you stayed. PC: For all our sakes, I’m pleased that you stuck around. Solas: As am I. You have fractured rules of man and nature, and you will shatter more before you are done. [17]
17 - Scene continues.
Solas (mage PC): Visiting me here, even as a mage… it should not have been so easy for you. Solas (non-mage PC): To visit me here, and you not even a mage…
PC: What do you mean? [20]
16 - Flirt: You care about me? PC: Felt the whole world change? Solas: A figure of speech. PC: I’m aware of the metaphor. I’m more interested in “felt.” Solas: You change… everything.
Dialogue options:
- General: It’s okay. [18]
- Flirt: [Kiss him.] [19]
18 - General: It’s okay. PC: You’re a good friend, Solas. I appreciate that. Solas: Thank you. You throw me off so easily. Even here. PC: What do you mean, “even here”? [20]
19 - Flirt: [Kiss him.] PC: Sweet talker. The PC kisses him, and goes to leave, but Solas grabs them and they kiss agian. Solas: We shouldn’t. It isn’t right. Not even here. Solas steps back. PC: What do you mean, “even here”? [20]
20 - Scene continues.
Solas: Where did you think we were?
The PC looks around.
PC: This isn’t real.
Solas: That’s a matter of debate… probably best discussed after you wake up.
The PC jolts awake in their bed.
High Approval: Before the Anchor
Solas: Inquisitor, I was… do you have a moment?
Solas leads the PC to the balcony of their quarters.
Solas: What were you like before the Anchor?
The PC looks at thir hand.
Solas: Has it affected you? Changed you in any way? Your mind, your morals, your… spirit?
Dialogue options:
- General: No, not really. [1]
- General: How should I know? [2]
- General: Get to the point. [3]
1 - General: No, not really. PC: I don’t believe so. Solas: Ah. PC: Why do you ask?
2 - General: How should I know? PC: If it had, do you really think I’d have noticed? Solas: No. That’s an excellent point. PC: Why do you ask?
3 - General: Get to the point. PC: What do you think is going on here?
4 - Scene continues.
Solas: You show a wisdom I have not seen since… since my deepest journeys into the ancient memories of the Fade. You are not what I expected.
Dialogue options:
- General: I’m just like everyone else. [5] -Solas slightly disapproves
- General: You make that sound bad. [6]
- General: What did you expect? [7]
5 - General: I’m just like everyone else. PC: I don’t think of myself as different from anyone. Solas: Perhaps not in the form of your body, no. [8]
6 - General: You make that sound bad. PC: Sorry to disappoint. Solas: It’s not disappointing, it’s… (Sighs.) Most people are predictable. [8]
7 - General: What did you expect? PC: What have I done that’s so surprising? [8]
8 - Choice dependent dialogue:
- Dalish PC [9]
- Dwarf/Qunari/human PC [10]
9 - Dalish PC Solas: You have shown subtlety in your actions, a wisdom that goes against everything I expected. If the Dalish could raise someone with a spirit like yours… have I misjudged them?
Dialogue options:
- General: Yes. [11]
- General: Honestly, not really. [12]
- General: No. I am who I am. [13] +Solas slightly approves
10 - General: Yes. PC: I don’t hold the Dalish up as perfect, but we have something worth honoring. A memory of the ancient ways. [14]
11 - General: Honestly, not really. PC: Most of the Dalish care more about impressing other hunters with a good shot or talking about how awful humans are. There are only a few who seem to care about the old ways. [14]
12 - General: No. I am who I am. PC: The Dalish didn’t make me like this. The decisions were mine. Solas: Yes, you are wise to give yourself that due. Although the Dalish, in their fashion, may still have guided you. [14]
14 - Scene continues.
Solas: Perhaps that is it. I suppose it must be. Most people act with so little understanding of the world. But not you. [18]
10 - Dwarf/Qunari/human PC
dwarf PC Solas: Dwarves are practical. They do not dream. The cannot even imagine a world beyond the physical. But you have shown subtlety in your actions. A wisdom that goes against everything I know of your people.
Qunari PC Solas: Qunari are savage creatures, their ferocity held in check only by the rigid teachings of the Qun. But you have shown subtlety in your actions. A wisdom that goes against everything I know of your people.
human PC Solas: Humans are shortsighted, brutish. Blind to the beauty of the Fade, their minds cast in a duality of black and white. But you have shown subtlety in your actions. A wisdom that goes against everything I know of your people.
Dialogue options:
General: What about our friends? [15] General: I try. [16] General: You were misinformed. [17]
14 - General: What about our friends? PC: I’m just one part of this team, Solas. What about Cassandra or Leliana? Solas: Cassandra separates matters of faith from those of the world, and she above all should understand how limited that is. Leliana has a brilliant mind, but her faith was damaged. To her, it is all a game of tactics now. But not you. [18]
15 - General: I try. PC: I do what I can. Solas: You are modest. So many would use this Inquisition as a blunt instrument in their rise to power. But not you. [18]
16 - General: You were misinformed. PC: It seems everything you’ve been taught by your people has some holes in it. Solas: I have seen enough of the world to know I was not misinformed. Most people are small… petty. But not you. [18]
18 - Scene continues.
PC: So what does this mean, Solas?
non-romanced Solas: It means that I respect you deeply, Inquisitor. And I have disturbed you enough for one evening. Solas leaves. Scene ends.
romanced Solas: It means I have not forgotten the kiss.
Dialogue options:
- End relationship: Let it go, Solas. [19]
- Flirt: Neither have I. [20]
19 - End relationship: Let it go, Solas. PC: Perhaps you should. Solas: Perhaps you’re right. I will always respect you, Inquisitor. Solas leaves. Scene ends.
20 - Flirt: Neither have I. PC: Good. The PC moves closer, and Solas goes to leave. PC: Don’t go. The PC grabs his arm. Solas: It would be kinder in the long run. But losing you would… He turns, and they kiss. Solas: Ar lath ma, vhenan. Solas leaves, and the PC leans against the doorway. Scene ends. —
