Solas Conversations: Other

Back to Solas Directory

Source of the Breach

Solas: Closing the Breach is our primary goal, but I hope we might also discover what was used to create it. Any artifact of such power is dangerous. The destruction of the Conclave proves that much.

1 - Dialogue options:

  • Investigate: You think it survived? [2]
  • General: I agree. [3]
  • General: It will turn up. [4]
  • General: It’s not a priority. [5]

2 - Investigate: You think it survived? PC: You don’t think whatever created the explosion was destroyed in the blast? Solas: You survived, did you not? The artifact that created the Breach is unlike anything seen in this age. I will not believe it destroyed until I see the shattered fragments with my own eyes. [back to 1]

3 - General: I agree. PC: We would do well to try to recover whatever created the Breach. [6]

4 - General: It will turn up. PC: Anything with that kind of power is bound to show up sooner or later. [6]

5 - General: It’s not a priority. PC: We can’t afford distractions. We must focus on sealing the Breach. Solas: Yes, as I said, that is our primary goal. It is a moot point, regardless. [6]

6 - Scene continues.

Solas: Leliana’s people have scoured the area near the blast and found nothing. Whatever the artifact was, it is no longer there. In any case, did you need me for anything?

Specialization: Knight-Enchanter

Solas: The new power you wield… I heard from Cassandra that it is the magic of the knight-enchanters? If I am not mistaken, the techniques descend from those of ancient elven mages called arcane warriors. I wonder what they would think to see their magic used in defense of the Chantry.

1 - Dialogue options:

  • Investigate: What were they called? [2] +Solas slightly approves
  • Investigate: What do you know of them? [3] +Solas slightly approves
  • General: They’d be pleased it lived on. [4]
  • General: I fear they would disapprove. [5]
  • General: Who cares what they’d think? [6]
  • Dalish: They would be proud of me. [7]

2 - Investigate: What were they called? PC: I doubt they were called “arcane warriors” in elven. Solas: The formal name for the techniques you have learned was the dirth’ena enasalin, knowledge that led to victory. Mages who eschewed physical confrontation called it ghilan’him banal’vhen, the path that leads astray. [back to 1]

3 - Investigate: What do you know of them? PC: What can you tell me about the arcane warriors? Solas: They were elite guardsmen, serving as bodyguards or champions for nobles, as I understand. Mages who focused on spirits or the Fade might sneer at their physicality, but never doubted their honor. They were the living embodiment of will made manifest, mind shaping the body into the perfect weapon. [back to 1]

4 - General: They’d be pleased it lived on. PC: I hope the ancient elven warriors would be pleased to see their techniques survive. Solas: I hope so, as well. So much knowledge has been lost… [8]

5 - General: I fear they would disapprove. PC: I can’t imagine ancient elves would be happy to see their techniques used by Chantry mages. Solas: Perhaps they would surprise you. So much knowledge has been lost… [8]

6 - General: Who cares what they’d think? PC: The ancient elves aren’t here. We are. If their techniques help the Inquisition, I don’t care what they think. Solas: Of course. The current war must take precedence over the concerns of those long gone. [8]

7 - Dalish: They would be proud of me. PC: I hope they would be proud to see another of our people practicing their techniques. Solas: I hope so, as well. So much knowledge has been lost… [8]

8 - Scene continues.

Solas: Perhaps having something they created carried forward, even in such a different form, would gratify them. Did you need anything else?

Specialization: Necromancer

Solas: You have begun practicing new magical forms. Interesting. You seem to be drawing energy across the Veil, wisps too simple to be considered spirits.

Solas (Dorian recruited): I believe Dorian uses similar magic, as do the Mortalitasi of Nevarra. Solas (Dorian not recruited): I believe the Mortalitasi of Nevarra use magic that is not dissimilar.

Solas: Why did you choose such an esoteric area of study?

Dialogue options:

  • General: I wanted to learn. [1] +Solas slightly approves
  • General: I wanted to be stronger. [2] -Solas disapproves
  • General: It’s a tool, nothing more. [3] -Solas slightly disapproves
  • General: I’d rather not say. [4] -Solas slightly disapproves

1 - General: I wanted to learn. PC: I hoped that studying such magic would help me better understand spirits. Solas: While our fight affords little time for formal study, the wise can better themselves even in the midst of battle. Perhaps especially then. I hope your new studies serve you well. Did you need anything else? Scene ends.

2 - General: I wanted to be stronger. PC: I saw the chance to gain more power. There seemed no reason not to take it. Solas: There are always reasons. Not every tool is an asset. Some are as much complication as benefit. Regardless, I hope these studies serve you well. Did you need anything else? Scene ends.

3 - General: It’s a tool, nothing more. PC: My needs were largely pragmatic. I hoped this magic might be of use in our fight. Solas: Indeed. Since Corypheus damaged the Veil, spirit energy is far easier to call into this world. So long as no intelligent spirits are harmed through your magic, it may be a wise and effective strategy. Did you need anything else? Scene ends.

4 - General: I’d rather not say. PC: My reasons are my own. Solas: Of course. Pardon my curiosity. Did you need anything else? Scene ends.

Specialization: Rift Mage

Solas: You have begun practicing new magical forms. Interesting. You seem to be drawing upon the raw substance of the Fade, likely using your mark as a catalyst. I use similar techniques, although it took me years to learn them. Why did you choose such an esoteric area of study?

Dialogue options:

  • General: I wanted to learn. [1] +Solas slightly approves

3 - General: It’s a tool, nothing more. PC: My needs were largely pragmatic. I hoped this magic might be of use in our fight. Solas: Indeed. Since Corypheus damaged the Veil, the raw chaos of the Fade contains an abundance of power from which to draw. Did you need anything else? Scene ends.

4 - General: I’d rather not say. PC: My reasons are my own. Solas: Of course. Pardon my curiosity. Did you need anything else?
