Bring Me the Heart of Snow White
Back to Vivienne Directory
An Alchemical Formula
The PC approaches Vivienne on the balcony.
Vivienne (high approval): My dear, I’m afraid I must ask you for help. Vivienne (neutral approval): Inquisitor, I wonder if you might help me with a delicate situation. Vivienne (Low approval): Inquisitor, I find myself in the unpleasant position of asking you for help.
Vivienne: There is an alchemical formula that I must complete, but I have been unable to obtain a critical ingredient: The heart of a snowy wyvern. I had arranged to obtain one, but the chevaliers working with me were killed in the civil war.
1 - Dialogue options:
- Investigate: Tell me about the wyvern. [2]
- Investigate: What is this formula? [3]
- Investigate: Why do you want my help? [4]
- Yes: I’ll help you. [5] +Vivienne slightly approves
- No: I don’t think so. [6] -Vivienne greatly disapproves
1 - Investigate: Tell me about the wyvern. PC: If I’m going to hunt down a snowy wyvern, I need you to tell me everything you know about it. Vivienne: They’re quite rare and exceedingly dangerous. Their venom is the most potent of any wyvern. Ordinary hunters would not make the attempt. The risk is too great. You, my dear, would certainly be an equal to this monster. [back to 1]
2 - Investigate: What is this formula? PC: I didn’t know you were an alchemist, Vivienne. What exactly is this project you’re working on? Vivienne: It is a special request from a member of the Council of Heralds. I am still the Imperial Court Enchanter, after all.
Vivienne (high approval): The matter is private. That is all there is to say. Vivienne (low approval): I would not have attained my position at court if I didn’t know when to be silent.
Dialogue options:
- Special: You won’t tell me? [6]
- [Back to 1]
6 - Special: You won’t tell me? PC: You want me to risk my life to get this thing for you, but won’t tell me what it’s for? Vivienne: My dear, it is hardly proper for me to blab the secrets of those who put trust in my discretion. ㅤㅤ ㅤ Vivienne (high approval): I would do no less for you, after all. [back to 1] Vivienne (low approval): You wouldn’t want me to speak up about your many issues, I’m sure. [back to 1]
3 - Investigate: Why do you want my help? PC: I’m not a hunter. Why do you think I can help? Vivienne: This beast is not hunted for sport as other wyverns sometimes are. It is far more deadly. In the past, chevaliers have been dispatched to either kill the creatures or drive them away from villages. Since my chevaliers have fallen to political conflict, I find myself in need of someone with a martial aptitude. [back to 1]
4 - Yes: I’ll help you. PC: I’ll do what I can. Vivienne: Thank you, my dear. I would be most grateful. I shall give the location of its lair to Cullen. Remember, my dear: I must have its heart, or the potion will not work. I eagerly await your success.
5 - No: I don’t think so. PC: This doesn’t seem like my concern. Vivienne: As you say. I shall remember this, my dear.
Scene ends.
The PC sees a book as they go to leave.
- PC (mage/arcane perk): Is this… a youth serum? I’ve never seen alchemy this complex. Where did she get it?
- PC: I can’t make heads or tails of this. Age regression? Who is this potion for?
Duke Bastien
What can I do for you, my dear? Is it too much to hope you’ve brought me the heart of the snowy wyvern?
Dialogue options:
- General: I’ve got the heart. Now talk. [1] -Vivienne disapproves
- General: [Lie.] I’ve got the heart. [2]
- General: I’ve got it. [3]
- General: Not yet. [4]
1 - General: I’ve got the heart. Now talk. PC: if you want the wyvern’s heart, you’ll tell me what you’re using it for. Vivienne: I can do better, darling. Give me the heart, and I’ll show you what it’s for. Will that suffice?
Dialogue options:
- General: [Lie.] Here’s the heart. [5]
- General: Very well, here it is. [6]
- General: Then no deal. [7] -Vivienne greatly disapproves
5 - General: [Lie.] Here’s the heart. PC: You have a deal. Vivienne: How kind of you. [8] ㅤㅤ ㅤ 6 - General: Very well, here it is. PC: All right. One heart, as requested. Vivienne: How kind of you. [8] ㅤㅤ ㅤ 7 - General: Then no deal. PC: No answers, no heart. Vivienne: I see. Very well. I shall find some other way to procure what I need. Good day, Inquisitor. Scene ends.
2 - General: [Lie.] I’ve got the heart. PC: I’ve got the heart. Vivienne: Words cannot express my relief. Thank you, Inquisitor.
3 - General: I’ve got it. PC: I’ve brought the heart as requested. Vivienne: Inquisitor, you are a treasure.
8 - Scene continues.
Vivienne: Please accept this as your payment. I must begin work immediately.
Vivienne (high approval): You are a dear friend, and I… would like you to come with me. [9] Vivienne (low approval): I should apologize. I must admit that I had completely misjudged you, Inquisitor. I… would like you to come with me to see this through. [9]
4 - General: Not yet. PC: I’ll get the heart for you. Be patient. Scene ends.
9 - Scene continues.
The PC and Vivienne enter an extravagant home in Orlais.
Vivienne: This should only take a moment, Inquisitor.
Vivienne approaches a sickly man lying in bed.
Vivienne: I’m here, my darling.
She gives him the potion.
Choice dependent dialogue:
- PC gave the heart [10]
- PC lied [11]
10 - PC gave the heart Bastien lifts his head slightly. Bastien: Vivienne? Vivienne: Yes, darling. Bastien: It’s going to be all right, my love. (Groans.) He lifts a hand, and then falls limp.[12]
11 - PC lied Bastien doesn’t move. Vivienne: It should be working by now… Bastien: (Breathes.) He moves slightly and goes still.[12]
12 - Scene continues.
Vivienne: My darling? Bastien?
Dialogue options:
- General: I’m so sorry. PC: Vivienne, I’m sorry. ㅤㅤ ㅤ
- General: I don’t know what to say. PC: Well… shit. ㅤㅤ ㅤ
- General: We should go. PC: We shouldn’t linger.
Vivienne stands.
Vivienne: There’s nothing here now.
Scene ends.
Sabotage (a)
Vivienne: You deliberately sabotaged my formula.
Choice dependent dialogue:
- Positive approval [1] -Vivienne greatly disapproves
- Negative approval [2] -Vivienne greatly disapproves
1 - Positive approval
Vivienne: Why?
Dialogue options:
- General (If PC read notes): I found out what it was. [3] -Vivienne slightly disapproves
- General: I didn’t trust you. [4]
- General: Because I hate you. [5] -Vivienne disapproves
- General: Snowy wyverns are hard to find. [6] -Vivienne slightly disapproves
- General: I’m sorry. [7]
3 - General: I found out what it was. PC: I saw your notes. It’s a youth potion! Vivienne: I see. And because you found that superficial and shallow, you condemned a man you’d never even met. How enlightened, my dear. [8]
4 - General: I didn’t trust you. PC: You refused to give me any details! I had no idea what the potion would do! Vivienne: If you had moral objections, you could have simply said no. I fail to see the ethical superiority of lying and sabotage. [8]
5 - General: Because I hate you. PC: You’re manipulative and shallow, and I wanted you to fail. Vivienne: Well, congratulations, my dear. Your petulance condemned an innocent man to death. [8]
6 - General: Snowy wyverns are hard to find. PC: Finding a snowy wyvern was too much trouble. I thought any wyvern heart would do. Vivienne: Of course you did, darling. Thinking that through would have been too hard for you. Your laziness condemned a man to death. I hope you’re proud of that accomplishment. [8]
7 - General: I’m sorry. PC: I didn’t think it would lead to anything like this. I’m so sorry. Vivienne: You should be sorry. You condemned an innocent man to death. [8]
8 - Scene continues.
Vivienne (male pc): And now we can all see what kind of man you really are. Vivienne (female PC): It’s illuminating to see what sort of woman you really are.
Vivienne: How fascinating. We’re done here. Do be a dear and run along.
Scene ends.
2 - Negative approval
Vivienne: How unexpectedly cunning.
Dialogue options:
- General: You knew this was coming. [9] -Vivienne slightly disapproves
- General: You underestimated me. [10] -Vivienne slightly disapproves
- General: Yes. And? [11]
9 - General: You knew this was coming. PC: You had to know not to trust me. Vivienne: You’re quite right, my dear. I foolishly mistook your naivety and blatant lack of subtlety for simpleness. [12]
10 - General: You underestimated me. PC: You really thought I would just play along with whatever you asked? Shortsighted of you, Vivienne. Vivienne: I expected a betrayal, of course. I simply didn’t think you were clever enough to commit sabotage. [12]
11 - General: Yes. And? PC: I tricked you. What’s your point? Vivienne: Deception requires a certain amount of intellect and concentration. I didn’t think you had it in you, darling. [12]
12 - Scene continues.
I will have to bear this in mind in the future. We’re done here. Do be a dear and run along.
Scene ends.
A More Innocent Time (b)
Vivienne: Bastien is dead. I can hardly believe… It was the Wintersend Ball, my first visit to the Imperial Palace. The Circle sent a dozen of us to entertain the nobility. I was in awe of everyone and everything. And then… our eyes met. Bastien spent the entire ball at my side. The dowager tried to have him killed for slighting her, but he didn’t care.
+Vivienne greatly approves.
Dialogue options:
- General: Love at first sight… [1]
- General: Were you also charmed? [2]
- General: A mage and a noble? Dangerous. [3]
1 - General: Love at first sight… PC: Falling in love across a crowded ballroom. Sounds like something out of a children’s story. Vivienne: He was a dashing rogue, and any defects he might have had were made up for with rank and importance. [4]
2 - General: Were you also charmed? PC: Obviously he was smitten, but what did you think of him? Vivienne: He was a dashing rogue, and any defects he might have had were made up for with rank and importance. [4]
3 - General: A mage and a noble? Dangerous. PC: That sounds like the sort of thing the templars would stop. Vivienne: In the days before Kirkwall, the nobility of Orlais didn’t fear magic. Mages were a fashion accessory. Everybody had one. [4]
4 - Scene continues.
Vivienne: It was… a more innocent time, I suppose. And now he’s gone, and I… I must write to his son Laurent… and his sister will make a terrible fuss if she isn’t informed first. And I’ll need to arrange for the Chantry services. Maker only knows how long that will take.
Dialogue options:
- General: I’m sorry. [5]
- General: Is there anything I can do? [6] +Vivienne approves
- General: You’ll be kept busy. [7] +Vivienne approves
- General: I’ll leave you to it. [8] +Vivienne slightly approves
5 - General: I’m sorry. PC: I’m so sorry for your loss, Vivienne. Vivienne: You’re too kind. I’ll… mend. [9]
6 - General: Is there anything I can do? PC: If I can help you, just say the word. Vivienne: No, my dear. I’ll handle everything. [9]
7 - General: You’ll be kept busy. PC: At least it will give you plenty to distract yourself. Vivienne: Thank the Maker for small mercies. [9]
8 - General: I’ll leave you to it. PC: I won’t take up more of your time. Vivienne: Thank you, my dear. [9]
9 - Scene continues.
Vivienne: Excuse me. I have so much to do.
Playing to Win (low approval)
Vivienne walks through the main hall of Skyhold with a couple of Orlesian nobles.
Marcelline: I expected ruins.
Vivienne: They were. As you see, the Inquisition has not been idle.
Laurent: Would it be possible to meet the Herald before we return to Ghislain?
Vivienne: My dear Laurent. For you, anything.
She waves the PC over from where they were talking with Josephine.
Vivienne: Allow me to present Inquisitor (Trevelyan/Adaar/Lavellan/Cadash).
Laurent: Your Worship, you do us great honor.
Vivienne: Inquisitor, this is my dear Bastien’s sister, Grand Cleric Marcelline. And his son, Duke Laurent of the Council of Heralds.
Marcelline: I owe you an apology, Inquisitor. I did not trust your motives at first. I am afraid I misjudged you terribly.
Laurent: Madame de Fer speaks very highly of your character. It is a great relief to know the Inquisition is in your hands.
Dialogue options:
- General: Glad you changed your minds. [1]
- General: Vivienne said that? [2]
- General: That’s good. [3]
1 - General: Glad you changed your minds. PC: It’s good to hear you changed your minds. Marcelline: Many of my sister clerics feared the Inquisition. We did not know if you worked for good or ill. So too must Andraste’s disciples have felt when they first beheld the Maker’s wrath against Tevinter.
2 - General: Vivienne said that? PC: Vivienne speaks highly of me? I hardly expected that. Marcelline: She speaks of nothing but you and your holy work. It has been most inspiring to hear.
3 - General: That’s good. PC: Glad to hear it. Marcelline: Now, in our darkest hour, Andraste reminds us that wisdom is gained by learning from our mistakes.
4 - Scene continues.
Vivienne: Would you mind waiting for me in the chapel, my dears? The Inquisitor and I have business to discuss.
Laurent: It has been our very great pleasure, Herald.
They leave the PC and Vivienne to talk.
Vivienne: So, you’ve met the family now. And made a good impression in spite of yourself. Well done.
Dialogue options:
- Surprised: You spoke highly of me? [5]
- Confused: What was that all about? [6]
- Angry: You’re scheming. [7] -Vivienne slightly disapproves
- Stoic: What are you after? [8]
5 - Surprised: You spoke highly of me? PC: Wait, you talked them into supporting the Inquisition? Vivienne: Of course I did, my dear. [9]
6 - Confused: What was that all about? PC: I don’t understand. What just happened here? Vivienne: A victory. My victory. [9]
7 - Angry: You’re scheming. PC: Whatever you’re planning, I want no part in it. Vivienne: Oh, you’ve already played your part, darling. [9]
8 - Stoic: What are you after? PC: What is it you want, Vivienne? Vivienne: Nothing, my dear. I already have what I wanted. [9]
9 - Scene continues.
Vivienne: Properly worded, the righteous cause of the Inquisition can be used to great effect with my Bastien’s deeply pious relations. With Bastien’s loss, I have connections to the Council of Heralds and the highest levels of the Chantry. All thanks to you.
Dialogue options:
- General: Things worked out, then. [10] +Vivienne slightly approves
- General: You always get what you want. [11] -Vivienne slightly disapproves
- General: You used me. [12] -Vivienne slightly disapproves
10 - General: Things worked out, then. PC: Well, at least everything’s worked out for you in the end. Vivienne: So it has. And well arranged, if I do say so myself. [13]
11 - General: You always get what you want. PC: You always get what you want, don’t you? No matter who you have to step over. Vivienne: Of course I do, Inquisitor. I play the Game to win. [13]
12 - General: You used me. PC: You used my position as Herald of Andraste to further your personal goals. Vivienne: Of course I did, my dear. That’s the Game. [13]
13 - Scene continues.
Vivienne: Well, I can’t keep Marcelline and Laurent waiting. Thank you so much for your cooperation, Inquisitor. I could never have done this without your help.
Something For You (high approval)
Marcelline: Madame de Fer has told us what great trials you faced, trying to save my poor brother’s life.
Laurent: The Maker called my father to His side. It was valiant of you to champion him in his final hours.
Dialogue options:
- General: I wish I’d done more. [1] +Vivienne slightly approves
- General: It was just a wyvern. [2]
- General: Tell me what you’ve heard. [3] +Vivienne slightly approves
1 - General: I wish I’d done more. PC: If only I’d been able to save Bastien. Marcelline: The Circle of Magi told Bastien many years ago that his illness was incurable. It was simply his time. [4]
2 - General: It was just a wyvern. PC: All I did was kill a wyvern. Laurent: Truly, you are too humble, Inquisitor. My family is deeply grateful for your efforts. [4]
3 - General: Tell me what you’ve heard. PC: I’m curious, what has Vivienne told you of my part in the affair? Laurent: She said you faced down the most dangerous of all wyverns in a desperate bid to save Father’s life. [4]
4 - Scene continues.
Vivienne: Would you mind waiting for me in the chapel, my dears? The Inquisitor and I have business to discuss.
Laurent: It has been our very great pleasure, Herald.
They leave the PC and Vivienne to talk.
Vivienne: This has been quite the triumph, hasn’t it? They just adore you.
Dialogue options:
- Pleased: They seem very nice. [5] +Vivienne slightly approves
- Surprised: You told them about me? [6]
- Confused: How was this a triumph? [7] -Vivienne slightly disapproves
- Stoic: Why are they here? [8]
5 - Pleased: They seem very nice. PC: Duke Bastien’s family seem quite pleasant. Vivienne: Ordinarily, I would’ve warned you that Marcelline has the temper of a hungry vulture. But she’s quite taken with you. [9]
6 - Surprised: You told them about me? PC: I can’t believe you told them about the snowy wyvern. Vivienne: Of course, my dear. Bastien’s death was a great loss. A dash of heroics was just what they needed. [9]
7 - Confused: How was this a triumph? PC: We failed to save Bastien, and you’re showing his grieving relatives around Skyhold. How is this a triumph? Vivienne: We did all we could for my darling Bastien, and the family knows that. [9]
8 - Stoic: Why are they here? PC: So why exactly are they here? Vivienne: They asked to see Skyhold. I could hardly refuse. [9]
9 - Scene continues.
Vivienne: Laurent is a dear. Almost as pious as his aunt, and new to a seat of great power in the empire. And Marcelline is one of the strongest voices among the grand clerics. Now they will both come to us for advice. The Inquisition is truly a power now, and there’s no telling how far its influence will reach. But enough of this talk. Here. I have something for you. I commissioned this ring from the Formari—the greatest enchanters in all Thedas—for you.
She hands the PC a ring.
Dialogue options:
- General: Thank you. [10] +Vivienne slightly approves
- General: There has to be a catch. [11] +Vivienne approves
- General: I have lots of rings. [12] -Vivienne slightly disapproves
10 - General: Thank you. PC: This is a generous gift. Thank you, Vivienne. [13]
11 - General: There has to be a catch. PC: And what comes attached to this ring, may I ask? Vivienne: The friendship of all the Circle, should you need it. [13]
12 - General: I have lots of rings. PC: I have enchanted rings. I don’t need another one. Vivienne: You don’t have one like this, my dear. [13]
13 - Scene continues.
Vivienne: Once, it was customary for the Circles to craft enchantments for their staunchest friends and allies. And you have been both. I must go see to my guests now. Another time, darling.
Scene ends.
