The Mountain Path
The party hikes up a snowy mountain to reach the bottom of a cliff-side series of ladders and platforms. They begin to climb, scaling two ladders, a set of stairs, and one more ladder before entering the mine.
Cassandra: The tunnel should be just ahead. The path to the temple lies just beyond it.
Solas: What manner of tunnel is this? A mine?
Cassandra: Part of an old mining complex. These mountains are full of such paths.
Varric: And your missing soldiers are in there somewhere?
Solas: Along with whatever has detained them.
Cassandra: We shall see soon enough.
Upon entering, a cluster of demons attack. Inside are empty stone hallways and stairs that lead up. They cross a covered bridge over what seems to be a bottomless abyss, and find many abandoned crates, chests, and desks. The party climbs another set of stairs to find more demons and finally leaves the tunnels. There are corpses right outside the door.
Varric: (Sighs.) Guess we found the soldiers.
Cassandra: That cannot be all of them.
Varric: So the others could be holed up ahead?
Solas: Our priority must be the breach. Unless we seal it soon, no one is safe.

Varric: I’m leaving that to the [person] with the glowing hand. | Varric: I’m leaving that to our elven friend here. | Varric: That’s a task for the other dwarf in out party. | Varric: I’m leaving that to our Qunari friend here. |
They approach a rift that has soldiers already fighting the demons that have appeared.
Soldier: Lady Cassandra!
Cassandra: You’re alive!
Soldier: Just barely!
The rift spawns another wave. The party defeats the demons and the PC closes the rift.
Solas: Sealed, as before. You are becoming quite proficient at this.
Varric: Let’s hope it works on the big one.
Cassandra helps a soldier to her feet.
Soldier: Thank the Maker you finally arrived, Lady Cassandra. I don’t think we could have held out much longer.
Cassandra: Thank our prisoner, Lieutenant. [They] insisted we come this way.
Soldier: The prisoner? Then you…?
Dialogue options:
- General: It was worth the risk. [1]
+ Solas Slightly Approves - General: All in a day’s work. [2]

3 - General: No time for talk.
PC: We have to get to the breach, and quickly.
Soldier: To the breach? I don’t…
4 - Scene continues.
Return to previous tree.Cassandra: The was into the valley behind us is clear for the moment. Go, while you still can.
Soldier: At once.
Soldier: (to her troops) Quickly, let’s move!
Solas: The path ahead appears to be clear of demons as well.
Cassandra: Let’s hurry, before that changes. Down the ladder. That’s the way to the temple.
They continue down the path and down two ladders, then follow a steep pathways covered with planks.
Varric: So… Holes in the fade don’t just accidentally happen, right?
Solas: If enough magic is brought to bear, it is possible.
Varric: But there are easier ways to make things explode.
Solas: That is true.
Cassandra: We will consider how this happened once the immediate danger is past.
The party continues down the winding pathway, down some stairs, and approach the ruins of the temple.
