You Have Questions
Rook finds Lucanis in the pantry where he has set up a cot.
Rook: You asked for time… is this long enough?
Lucanis: Yes, my head’s clearer. Though I would kill for a decent cup of coffee.
Rook: Have you? For coffee, I mean.
Lucanis: Not today. You’ve got questions. You might as well ask them.
Dialogue options:

1 - Investigate: Are you okay taking this job?
Rook: I know Caterina “volunteered” you to work with us. Are you okay with that?

Lucanis: But there’s plenty of reason for me to work with you beyond that, Rook.
Rook: Such as?
Lucanis: I owe you a debt, for one. And after a year in that hole, maybe I’m looking forward to stabbing a god or two in the back. I’m skilled with a blade, but I promise you: without Spite, I have the magical talent of a brick. There must be some difference between a demon deceiving their way into a body and being forced into one. Only Zara knows for sure.
2 - Investigate: How did you get captured?
Rook: You’re the best mage-killer in the Antivan Crows. So how’d the Venatori catch you?
Lucanis: Someone set me up. I had a contract for Calivan. In the Ossuary. I took a ship from Treviso to Minrathous. They were waiting for me. Knew which ship and when it would arrive. I don’t know how they convinced the Crows I was dead, but I woke up in the Ossuary with Zara gloating about it.
3 - Make yourself at home.
Rook: The Crossroads can be dicey, but the Lighthouse is safe. Oh, and if you see a spirit around called the Caretaker, they’re friendly.
Lucanis: After the Ossuary, that will be a pleasant change.
4 - Everyone pulls their own weight.
Rook: I know we brought you in as a specialist, but things are rough. I need everyone to help out.
Lucanis: Of course. I hate sitting idle. And it’s better I stay occupied.
5 - Scene continues.

Rook: From what I’ve seen, I’d say he picked the right name…
Lucanis: He’s stronger when I sleep. So… I try not to do it much. No one was in the Ossuary by choice. Not even the demons. We both did what we had to, to get out of there.

Rook: So, if you’re an abomination…
Lucanis: I suppose I should get used to that.

Rook: I admire you. What you’ve been through would break most people.
Lucanis: I would not give Zara the satisfaction.
Rook: Still. You must be a very courageous man.
Lucanis: A very stubborn one, perhaps. But, that’s… kind of you to say.
8 - Affable: What matters is, you’re out.
Rook: When you have nothing but bad choices, better to take the one that saves you.
Lucanis: And now comes the rest of my life. Our life.
9 - Sarcastic: What sets Spite off?
Rook: We should know: is there anything in particular that upsets Spite?
Lucanis: Not getting his way. Getting his way and not liking the outcome…
Rook: Sounds like a child.
Lucanis: Have you seen a child when they realize they don’t control the world? Except Spite’s anger has real power behind it.
10 - Stoic: Are you dangerous?
Rook: We need you. But if you’re any kind of threat to us, I want to know now.
Lucanis: It helps to have targets to focus on, and you have no shortage of enemies.
11 - Scene continues.
Return to previous tree.Lucanis: Leave Spite to me. If he’s trapped in this world, he has good reason to fight for it. For now, I must honor our contract. Gods, magic, politics… Hmm. Things are going to get very bloody.

Rook: Well, it’s all as you left it.
Lucanis: Close enough. I think the Caretaker’s been tidying up. Rook… Now’s not the best time to chat. Let’s talk later.
Rook: Later, then.
Sleepwalking
Rook walks into Lucanis’s room, but he isn’t there.
Rook: Lucanis? Where is he?
Rook heads to the eluvian room. Taash is blocking the eluvian and Harding stands nearby.
Harding: Back, demon! No further! Isn’t standing up to them supposed to work?
Taash: Let Lucanis go. Don’t make us hurt both of you.
Rook: What’s going on? Lucanis?
Harding: It’s not Lucanis! It’s the demon. It’s taken him over—he’s trying to leave!
Lucanis (Spite): (Inhales) Smells like… jam and brimstone.
Harding: Rook, do something!

Rook: Spite, stop. You’re not taking Lucanis through the eluvian.
Lucanis (Spite): I could! If you’d move!
Harding: So you can take him where? Off a cliff? Or worse?
Lucanis: How did… Rook? Taash? Ah…
2 - Sarcastic: I need to reach Lucanis.
Rook: Lucanis! Wake up!
Lucanis: Ugh. What the…?
3 - Stoic: Lucanis doesn’t belong to you.
Rook: Spite, this man is not your puppet—and stunts like this won’t change that.
Lucanis: How did… Rook? Taash? Ah…
4 - Scene continues.

Taash: Spite wanted out.
Lucanis: (Sighs) I need coffee.

Rook: Are you sure you’re all right?
Lucanis: This… could be better.

Rook: You can’t just caffeinate your way out of this.

Rook: If you can’t control this demon, I don’t know if I can rely on you.
Lucanis: I can control him. And I will.

Harding: You can’t just stay awake forever. I think that would kill you.
Lucanis: I’ll be more careful next time.

Lucanis: He’s “Spite,” not “Learning.” He doesn’t listen to anyone. Don’t worry about it. This won’t happen again.
11 - Tie yourself down.
Rook: You need to restrain yourself while you sleep. Lock the door, tie yourself to the bed—whatever it takes.
Lucanis: I’ll come up with something.
