Warden Forward Camp

Rook heads to the Hossberg Wetlands and meets with Evka..

Evka: Rook! You made it. Good.

Rook: Wouldn’t miss it. We have unfinished business with that dragon. What’s the situation out here?

Evka: Could be better. The darkspawn attack, and then immediately withdraw. But they never hit the same place twice. They’re testing our defenses for weaknesses. Darkspawn aren’t supposed to be that smart. But it’s not really them thinking, is it…

Evka: I don’t know about you, Rook, but my oath didn’t mention fighting gods. The First Warden called this the “Blight to end all Blights.” He might be right.

Evka: Weisshaupt left people terrified. No one signed up to fight gods. The First Warden called it the “Blight to end all Blights.” He might be right.

Dialogue options:
  • Affable: Maybe. [1]
  • Sarcastic: He’s gone. You’re not. [2]
  • Stoic: There’s no time for that. [3]
  • Grey Warden: In war, victory. [4]

1 - Affable: Maybe.

Rook: By my count, Elgar’nan and Ghilan’nain are the last two gods. Aside from Solas. If we put them down? Maybe this is really it. The last Blight.

Evka: That… it’s hard to imagine what that looks like right now.

Rook: First things first. Let’s deal with that blighted dragon.

2 - Sarcastic: He’s gone. You’re not.

Rook: He’s not First Warden anymore, though. The Wardens now look to you, Evka. Show them what it means to fight.

Evka: Right. So, any advice? Get back up every time you’ve been knocked down?

Rook: I’m surprisingly bad at knowing when I should quit. Now, the blighted dragon.

3 - Stoic: There’s no time for that.

Rook: We need to focus on killing that blighted dragon. We’ll mourn the dead after we bring it down.

4 - Grey Warden: In war, victory.

Rook: We took the same oath. Drank from the same chalice. In war, victory. Wars don’t come bigger than this. So let’s go for victory. Which means putting down that blighted dragon.

5 - Scene continues.

Evka: Right. We’ve tracked it to a ruined tower nearby. Probably licking its wounds after its fight with you. We’ve got ballistas ready with clear shots on the tower. But it won’t come into the open. Already lost eleven Wardens trying to pry it out.

Taash: Only another dragon can fight a dragon in a tight space. Anything else gets shredded. No room to dodge or keep your distance. We need to lure her out to have any chance.

Evka: How do we do that?

Taash: Get me inside the tower. I’ve got a call that’ll grab her attention.

Evka: Works for me.

Evka: I sent word to the Shadow Dragons. Thought they might want another shot at this thing. Evka: I sent word to the Crows. Thought they might want another shot at the dragon.

Evka: Besides. Figured they owed you one, after you helped drive it off the last time.

Rook: And?

Evka: Haven’t heard back yet. We reached out to the Veil Jumpers too, but they’ve got their own problems with the Venatori. Looks like it’s just us.

Dialogue options:
  • Affable: We’ve got this.
Rook: If anyone can do this, it’s us. We had your back at Weisshaupt. And we’ve got it here.

  • Sarcastic: We’ll make it work.
Rook: Good thing we’re improvisers. No giant face in the clouds this time, right?

  • Stoic: Let’s not waste time.
Rook: Then let’s get to it.

Evka: Okay. Here’s where we stand. Wardens Jaynie and Rhodri are keeping people out of the battlefield. I don’t think anyone local will test their luck with a dragon, but we’re taking no chances. They’ve already got orders to let you through.

Rook: Good. Rest of you can head to the walls. Give the Wardens all the support you can.

  • Bellara: Got it, Rook.
  • Davrin: Whatever you say, Rook.
  • Emmrich: Of course, Rook.
  • Harding: Got it, Rook.

Evka: Good luck. To all of us.

Rook talks to Evka again.

Evka: Can’t say there aren’t doubts. After what happened…

Rook: This won’t be another Weisshaupt.

Evka: I believe you. Antoine does, too. The rest need to see what we’ve seen.

  • Evka: In war, victory.
  • Evka: We’re with you, Rook.
  • Evka: We’ve got this, Rook. Lead the way.
    Rook: Right. In war, victory.

Rook heads off, speaking to other Wardens as they pass.

  • Warden Sasha: Of course we’re fighting in a swamp. Couldn’t be the plains. Or a nice forest. My boots won’t stop squelching.

  • Warden Tomasz: Thought the last Blight was shit enough. Now, this one’s even more shit. Take the Warden’s oath! Better than the gallows, right? Fuck off, Willis.

  • Warden Vaughan: Shield, good. Armor, good. Sword… where’s my sword? Oh, shit. I can’t find my sword!
    Warden Sasha: You’re holding it.
    Warden Vaughan: Right. Thank you!

  • Warden Sasha: Rook! Don’t worry. We’ll handle things over here. You focus on that dragon, right?

  • Warden Tomasz: Rook! I saw what you pulled with the dagger at Weisshaupt. You bring some of that to this fight, we’ll be all right.

  • Warden Vaughan: Rook! Glad you’re here. Now we might have a shot at stopping this thing.

Rook speaks to Antoine.

Rook: Antoine. You ready for this?

Antoine: I will be! We must stop this here. Between us, you, and your friends, I’m sure we can.

Antoine: Bonne chance, Rook. To all of us.

Rook continues through the nearby gate.
