Respect of the Dread Wolf

Rook: Might be a good time to see what Solas thinks of all this.

Rook goes to speak with Solas.

Solas: The Dalish prisoners escaped safely?

Rook: We got them away free and clear.

Solas: Good.

Solas: Your time with the Veil Jumpers probably taught you some of my history with our people.

Rook: A bit, Dread Wolf.

ElfNon-elf
Solas: Whatever my frustrations with them, it was a privilege to be able to help our people again.Solas: Whatever my frustrations with them, it feels good to have helped my people again.

Solas: Thank you for allowing me to help. The chance to infuriate Elgar’nan was a reminder of simpler times.

Dialogue options:

1 - Investigate: You dislike the Dalish?

Rook: You said you found the Dalish frustrating. Why is that?

Solas: It is unfair to them. I lived for thousands of years, and after I imprisoned the Evanuris, I slept for thousands more. I awoke in a world that had forgotten the ancient times almost entirely. And those who tried to remember elven history, like the Dalish, had gotten so much wrong.

Dialogue options:

6 - They made you look bad, huh?

Rook: Like the terrible trickster Fen’Harel, who sealed away the gods?

Solas: There was truth to their stories. My rebellion had indeed disrupted the lives of those who had been comfortable. And when I created the Veil, I destroyed an empire. Their judgments were fair, if clouded.

Scene continues. [9]

7 - Like worshipping Elgar’nan.

Rook: I suspect them calling Elgar’nan and Ghilan’nain and all the rest gods didn’t go over well with you.

Solas: Indeed. To see that the history the Dalish worked so hard to preserve was the propaganda of tyrants was… vexing.

Scene continues. [9]

8 - I’m betting you argued.

Rook: Let me guess: you tried to tell them what they were getting wrong, and they didn’t believe you?

Solas: (Chuckles) There are few things that frustrate me as much as ignorance.

Scene continues. [9]

9 - Scene continues.
Return to previous tree.

Solas: I tried to explain the truth to one clan. When I convinced them that I was truly Fen’Harel, they attacked me. After that, I hid my explanations behind the facade of having witnessed events in the Fade.

Mourn WatcherMageNon-Mourn Watch/non-mage
Rook: And one of the first lessons in the Mourn Watch is that the Fade is reality as seen through a smoky mirror.Rook: And every mage knows that what we see in the Fade might not be literally true.Rook: And the Fade is the realm of dreams. Hard to present that as evidence.

Solas: Yes. The Dalish had no reason to believe me. I could only watch as they continued to worship Elgar’nan. Though we may have seen the last of that tradition, at least.

Return to main dialogue tree.

2 - Investigate: You really hate Elgar’nan.

Rook: You and Elgar’nan were really tearing into one another back there.

Solas: I needed to goad him to anger in order to distract him.

Rook: Mm-hmm.

Solas: But yes, while all of the Evanuris were monsters in their own ways, Elgar’nan was the worst. Or perhaps it is more honest to say that his were the faults I found most objectionable. You have met him now, heard his voice hammering at the doors of your mind. And you have met me. Can you see how he and I might frustrate one another?

Dialogue options:

10 - Affable: You’re like angry brothers.

Rook: The way the two of you argued… it didn’t feel like enemies. It felt like family.

Solas: How so?

Rook: Family knows you better than anyone, and that can be good or bad.

Solas: I had not thought of it that way, but yes. We had centuries to stoke the fires of our hatred. I saw his rise to tyranny coming and could not stop it. And he saw me disrupt his plans for dominion time and time again.

Scene continues. [13]

11 - Sarcastic: You’re both prideful.

Rook: The two of you are too much alike. Both of you want to be in charge.

Solas: I have no desire to be “in charge.”

Rook: No, you just want to be able to correct anyone who’s not doing everything the way you’d’ve done it.

Solas: (Chuckles) I see you have been observing me as well during these conversations.

Scene continues. [13]

12 - Stoic: He’s brutal.

Rook: He uses his power to crush any opposition.

Solas: Yes. He is far more powerful than I am, and he wields that power like a graceless bludgeon. When I defeat an enemy, it is because I outsmarted them, because I was right. When he does, it is only because he was stronger.

Rook: Outsmarting someone and being right aren’t exactly the same thing.

Solas: Aren’t they?

Scene continues. [13]

13 - Scene continues.
Return to previous tree.

Rook: All right, I can see how you and Elgar’nan would hate each other.

Solas: He has always been what I most feared becoming. Callous and uncaring, his arrogance unchecked.

Solas: To have that much power and no one to remind him that he could be wrong…

Rook: Well, he had you.

Solas: (Chuckles) And I suppose I had you.

Return to main dialogue tree.

3 - Affable: Thanks for the help.

Rook: We would’ve had a hard time getting out of there without your help.

Solas: I did not spend this long preparing you only to lose you to Elgar’nan’s machinations. (Sighs) No. I am sorry. That was poorly said. You have earned better from me.

Rook: Okay?

Scene continues. [14]

4 - Sarcastic: You did want me to goad him.

Rook: Last time I got his attention, he got angry enough to come after us with the blighted dragons. Hopefully this baits him into a mistake we can use against him.

Solas: Every act of resistance is a thorn in his side. He will break soon.

Scene continues. [14]

5 - Stoic: If you say so.

Rook: I’ll have to take your word for that.

Scene continues. [14]

14 - Scene continues.
Return to previous main tree.

Solas: When we first met, I saw you only as a foolishly confident child who disrupted my plans. You were an irritant. I gave you information to oppose Elgar’nan out of necessity, but I expected you to be nothing more than a tool. Seeing you with your team… I was wrong.

Dialogue options:

15 - Affable: That had to be hard to say.

Rook: I appreciate you saying that. Couldn’t have been easy.

Solas: The only thing worse than being wrong is realizing it but being afraid to change. Elgar’nan’s pride is no greater than mine. But he denies any failure on his part, and I at least try to acknowledge my mistakes.

Scene continues. [18]

16 - Sarcastic: That’s surprising to hear.

Rook: I’m impressed you got that out without choking on it.

Solas: If I could not admit when I was wrong, I would be no better than Elgar’nan.

Scene continues. [18]

17 - Stoic: Yep.

Rook: Yeah, you were.

Solas: A mistake I shall endeavor not to repeat.

Scene continues. [18]

18 - Scene continues.
Return to previous tree.

Solas: Your team trusts you, and you listen to them. It is impressive… and enviable.

Worldstate dependent dialogue:

Solas: You work together with a camaraderie it took me centuries to build in my rebellion.

Rook: So what do we do next?

Scene continues. [21]

21 - Scene continues.
Return to worldstate choice.

Solas: Elgar’nan and Ghilan’nain are preparing the dagger they will use for their ritual to pierce the Veil. Elgar’nan’s power is tied to light and darkness. He will need to perform a ritual during the next eclipse.

Rook: That gives us some time to prepare.

Solas: It is likely to be your last chance to do so. You must be ready for whatever comes, for this world and for the team that trusts you. I know that you will do everything in your power not to fail them.

Next Options

The companions meet in the library.

Emmrich: So now Elgar’nan’s recovered his own Archdemon. And the gods only need an eclipse to complete their dagger.

Bellara: We saved the Dalish, though. That’s important…

Lucanis: But now Elgar’nan’s immortal. So long as his Archdemon lives.

Varric: And we all know how hard those things are to kill.

Harding: We killed Razikale, didn’t we?

Davrin: After losing hundreds of Wardens. And it took a centuries-old trap to do it. We don’t have either of those, not anymore.

Neve: Just when you think the tide’s in your favor, it turns right back.

Dialogue options:

1 - Affable: We can’t let Thedas fall.

Rook: Okay. We always knew this was going to be hard, right? And yeah, maybe it’s a little harder now. More than a little. But either we stop this, or all of Thedas falls. So we see it through. All the way. Because no one else is going to.

Scene continues. [4]

2 - Sarcastic: That’s why we’ll win.

Rook: We’ve done some great work underwater. You know why no one else can save the world except us? Why the Inquisitor told me it had to be us? Because we don’t give up. Knock us down, and we come back swinging.

Scene continues. [4]

3 - Stoic: Job’s still the same.

Rook: The odds on this were never good. But we’ve already beaten them once. We have a job to finish. And two gods to kill. We don’t get to wallow and whine. Because no one else is taking this fight.

Scene continues. [4]

4 - Scene continues.
Return to previous tree.

Varric: Nice speech, Rook.

Lucanis: But it’s hard to complete a contract if you don’t know where the target is.

Taash: We found the gods before.

Bellara: Not without help, we didn’t.

Taash: So we get help again. We’ve got allies everywhere now.

Dialogue options:

5 - Ideas, anyone?

Rook: I can think of a few options, but… I’m open to suggestions.

Davrin: Wardens’ve run dry. Nothing new is moving in the Deep Roads.

Bellara: And the Veil Jumpers couldn’t find any trace of Elgar’nan or his Archdemon.

Scene continues. [8]

6 - How about the Veil Jumpers?

Rook: Did the Veil Jumpers find any traces of where Elgar’nan and his Archdemon went?

Bellara: No. Venatori started swarming the area right after we left, and they had to leave.

Scene continues. [8]

7 - What about the Venatori?

Rook: What about the Venatori that were at the crater? They might know where the gods are hiding.

Saved MinrathousSaved Treviso
Neve: Dorian said they were up to something. But it seemed more about returning to the gods’ good graces. They lost Elgar’nan’s sacrifice. He’ll be displeased.Neve: No one will risk being an informant. Not while the Venatori hold power in Minrathous. It’s a dead end.

Scene continues. [8]

8 - Scene continues.
Return to previous tree.

Lucanis: The Crows may have something. The Antaam are moving large quantities of supplies out of the city. Weapons, armor, gaatlok…

Saved MinrathousSaved Treviso
Lucanis: And several storehouses worth of food. What little we had left. It’s enough to feed the Antaam navy for three months. Or all of Treviso for six weeks.Lucanis: And food. About half our remaining provisions. Enough to feed the Antaam navy.

Emmrich: Given the timing, it seems unlikely to be a coincidence.

Rook: Wherever those supplies are headed, that’s likely where we’ll find the gods.

Rook: Any more details from the Crows, Lucanis?

Lucanis: They said the Antaam have long work ahead. We have time. Also, Viago would like a meeting. “At your earliest convenience.” From him, that means important, but not yet urgent.

Dialogue options:

9 - Affable: So we have options.

Rook: We’ve got options for what we do next. Figuring out where the Antaam are taking those supplies should put us on the gods’ trail.

Saved Treviso
Rook: That said, the Venatori aren’t up to anything good in Minrathous.

Scene continues. [12]

10 - Sarcastic: How much time?

Rook: Did Viago tell you how much time we have?

Lucanis: Days to weeks. Nothing more precise.

Rook: Well, that’s our best lead so far. Track those supplies, and we should find the gods.

Scene continues. [12]

11 - Stoic: We prioritize the gods.

Rook: Finding the gods is our first priority. Following those supplies is our best chance.

Saved Minrathous
Neve: Don’t forget, the Shadow Dragons had our back at Lavendel. We should hear them out.

Scene continues. [12]

12 - Scene continues.
Return to previous tree.

Harding: Not to complicate things, but… the Inquisitor also wants to meet, Rook.

Rook: Right. With everything [they’ve] been doing in the South, we owe [them] an update.

Harding: I’ll let [them] know.

Dialogue options:

13 - Affable: Good fighting today.

Rook: Today could’ve gone better. But it could’ve gone much worse. We fought off the Venatori and rescued the Dalish. That’s a win by any standard. Rest up. And be ready to go.

Scene continues. [16]

14 - Sarcastic: We survived again.

Rook: Despite the odds, we’ve survived. We’ve made a habit of it. Take some time. Rest. Be ready to go.

Scene continues. [16]

15 - Stoic: Be ready to go.

Rook: Keep your weapons ready. We don’t know when the gods will show themselves again. Be prepared for anything.

Scene continues. [16]

16 - Scene continues.
Return to previous tree.

Rook: Next time the gods appear, let’s make sure it’s the last.
