Arlathan Crater

Venatori gather at a huge ruins site, while Strife, Rook, Bellara, and Neve watch from a nearby cliffside.

Rook: Well?

Strife: They’re waiting for something. There’s talk of a sacrifice.

Bellara: Do they mean the clan? They mean the clan, don’t they?

Strife: Well, the tracks suggest the captives are on the other side of the clearing. You’ll have to go through the crowd.

Dialogue options:

1 - Investigate: Witness the sacrifice?

Rook: They’re gathering to watch people be killed?

Neve: It’s the Venatori. Spilling blood is their religion.

Strife: And we won’t let that happen.

Return to dialogue tree.

2 - Affable: Wait, through the crowd?

Rook: We’re going through them? Won’t they notice?

Strife: Not if you look like them.

Scene continues. [5]

3 - Irreverent: I hate cultists.

Rook: We’re going to get that close to a crowd of Venatori?

Strife: It’s quickest.

Scene continues. [5]

4 - Tough: It’ll be a fight.

Rook: That’s a lot of them. It’ll be a fight for the ages.

Strife: No fighting. You’ll get us all killed. You’re going to blend in instead.

Scene continues. [5]

5 - Scene continues.
Return to previous tree.

Strife: I found you some disguises.

The party changes clothes.

Harding: Well, do I look evil enough?

Strife: You’ll fit right in.

Harding: I’ll just hide behind Neve.

Bellara not in party
Bellara: I’ll go with the Veil Jumpers.

Strife: We’ll try to keep the escape routes clear. Get the Dalish and get out of there. And please, try not to stand out.

The party heads into the ruins.

  • Bellara: What about everyone else?
  • Davrin: What will the others do?
  • Harding: What about the others?
  • Emmrich: Will the others follow?
  • Lucanis: And the others?
  • Taash: What about the others?

Rook: They’ll be close. But it’s safer to move in small groups.

They continue.

Neve: I thought I saw someone, in the trees. Strife and the Veil Jumpers?

  • Bellara: The others, maybe. You don’t see Strife unless he wants you to.
  • Davrin: Good to know they have eyes on us.
  • Emmrich: Ah, they’re keeping watch, then. Excellent.
  • Harding: I thought I saw that, too! Good to know they’re watching over us.
  • Lucanis: Good.
  • Taash: Yeah. Checking to let us know they’re in place. Veil Jumpers don’t get spotted unless they want to.

They head down a zipline and continue towards the ruins.

  • Bellara: This robe feels weird. And I can’t move my arms properly!
  • Davrin: This robe. Is it made from dragon whiskers? It itches. How am I supposed to fight?
  • Emmrich: How do the Venatori stand the itch of these robes?
  • Harding: Ugh, these sleeves! They’ll get tangled in my bowstring.
  • Lucanis: This robe stinks of Venatori.
  • Taash: This robe itches. How am I supposed to fight like this?

Rook: We’ll wear them as long as we don’t have to fight.

They enter the ruins proper, blending in among the Venatori. Some of them rush to the side of the room.

Venatori: They’re going to bleed the Dalish deer!

  • Bellara: That’s a halla. Why are they killing it? Poor thing…
  • Davrin: They’re going to kill a halla. Monsters.
  • Emmrich: They must mean one of the halla. They plan to kill it for sport.
  • Harding: They’re going to kill a halla? Just for fun?
  • Lucanis: Halla. They’re going after halla.
  • Neve: Dalish deer. Halla. They’re going to kill it to show power.
  • Taash: What did the deer ever do to them? Monsters.
Veil Jumper RookNon-Veil Jumper Rook
Rook: I hate it, too, but we need to stay hidden.Rook: We can’t do anything that’ll draw attention to ourselves.
  • Emmrich: But… you’re right.
  • Harding: Damn it.
  • Lucanis: Wait until we find our target.
  • Neve: Venhedis.
  • Taash: (Growls)

Neve: Rook, we don’t have to watch this. It won’t be pretty.

Bellara in party
Bellara: Can we go? Please?

The sacrifice the halla in a burst of blood and magic. The crowd cheers.

  • Bellara: Why did they do that? I hate this. And them.
  • Davrin: I’ll remember this. They’ll pay… in blood.
  • Emmrich: (Deep sigh) Poor creature.
  • Harding: Pointless. Cruel and pointless.
  • Lucanis: They will pay. One way or another.
  • Taash: (Growls)

The party moves on.

Blending In

The party continues past the sacrificed halla.

Venatori 1: Did you come from Minrathous?

Venatori 2: Vyrantium. There’s a few of us here. And a group from Ventus.

Venatori 1: It is truly our time, my friend.

They head into the next room.

Saved the Mayor of D’Metas Crossing

Rook: Wait a minute—that was the mayor of D’Meta’s Crossing.

Neve: The gods’ hold on him was stronger than he knew.

  • Bellara: I knew it! We should’ve left him to die.
  • Harding: We shouldn’t have expected anything more from someone like him.
  • Mayor Julius: Elgar’nan speaks to me! I hear his voice!
  • Mayor Julius: I live to serve!
  • Mayor Julius: Glory to the risen gods! They have come to deliver this world!

Rook continues. (Many of these Venatori lines may be cut or not trigger properly.)

Venatori 3: I’m still unsure what we’re here to see. Did Selvin tell you?

Venatori 4: We will be witness to Tevinter’s rise. Do you hear his voice? Do you hear it?

Venatori 3: I don’t…

Venatori 4: Quiet. Quiet, and you will hear.

The party continues through the crowd.

  • Venatori: We live in exciting times, my friend.
  • Venatori: They’ve returned, and the enemies of Tevinter will fall!
  • Venatori: For the glory of Tevinter reborn!
  • Venatori: It’s happening. It’s finally happening. After all this time.
  • Venatori: I am here! I wish to serve!

They turn a corner where more Venatori are chatting.

  • Venatori Thug: Why, if it isn’t Auralin Vera. Does your father know you’re here?
Venatori Noble: Please. He’d disinherit me. The old fool needs to die. That Magisterium seat should be mine.
Venatori Thug: My prices are very reasonable. We’ll talk.

  • Venatori Thug: About your father. Was he not part of the Venatori’s first rise, years ago?
Venatori Noble: He changed. Married that worthless soporati. And then Pavus got to him. The strong are meant to rule. Tevinter is meant to rule. The risen gods will get us there.

  • Venatori Noble: Who are they? Ugh. Their robes are all dusty.

  • Venatori Noble: Where are they holding the Dalish? I don’t want to be anywhere near those animals.

  • Venatori Thug: Tevinter gods, elven gods. Only power matters, if you ask me.

  • Venatori Thug: Elgar’nan wanted elven blood for his ritual. He’s particular.

Rook squeezes through some more Venatori into a courtyard.

Rook: This whole place makes my skin crawl.

  • Bellara: Right. It feels just… wrong.
  • Neve: Venatori are bad enough, but… something’s off.
  • Lucanis: Something’s wrong. It feels like blood magic, but… stronger.
  • Harding: Not just me, then!

They overhear more Venatori.

  • Starstruck Venatori: I bet Rook and I would be great friends.
  • Starstruck Venatori: Hey, have you ever read that Southern writer, Varric Something?
  • Starstruck Venatori: News of this gathering is everywhere. Do you think Rook will show up?
  • Bored Venatori: If something doesn’t happen soon, I’m going to go look at the Dalish cages.
  • Bored Venatori: Do you hear that? I thought I heard something.
  • Bored Venatori: We’ve been waiting for hours. Why isn’t anything happening?

They walk around the crowd.

Starstruck Venatori: What do you think Rook’s like in person? Do you think they smell nice?

Bored Venatori: What is wrong with you? And have you forgotten which side you’re on?

Starstruck Venatori: Uh, no. I mean… think about if we could turn them. Riding beside Rook, at the head of Tevinter’s vast armies…

Taash romanced, in partyTaash not romanced
Taash: You do smell nice.

Rook: Awwww!
  • Bellara: (Giggles.)
  • Davrin: Hey, Rook, looks like you got a fan.
  • Emmrich: You’ve quite a fan amongst the Venatori.
  • Harding: Someone likes you.
  • Lucanis: I could stab them for you. On the house.
  • Taash: Guess they’ve never smelled you.

Rook: Keep your voice down!

They approach the Venatori standing nearby. Neve walks up first.

Race dependent dialogue:

Venatori: Who are you? We are not expecting dwarves.

Rook: I’m… uh…

Neve: My associate. From the Carta.

Venatori: This is very irregular… I—

Neve: [They’re] curious about the talk of a Tevinter rebirth. Business thrives when all parties have confidence in the future, don’t you agree? Now tell me, where are the risen gods? I promised my friend a spectacle.

Venatori: G-gods? But only the lord Elgar’nan is here, and he is still preparing—

Neve: Useless. Out of my way.

They walk past, and the Venatori leaves.

Neve: It’s Elgar’nan, not Ghilan’nain like we expected.

Dialogue options:

1 - Investigate: You handled that well.

Rook: That was impressive.

Neve: They expect strength and power from someone like me.

Bellara or Emmrich in partyBellara or Emmrich not in party
Rook: A mage.

  • Bellara: Specifically, a human mage.
  • Emmrich: A human mage, to be precise.
Davrin/Harding/Lucanis/Taash: A mage.

Neve: A human mage.

Neve: Show them what they expect, and you don’t get questions. But as I was saying, Ghilan’nain’s not here. It’s just Elgar’nan.

Return to dialogue tree.

2 - Affable: We’ll try to avoid him.

Rook: Elgar’nan might be here, but he doesn’t know we are.

  • Bellara: But he will. You know, once we rescue his sacrifices.
  • Davrin: Yeah, but I think he’ll notice when we try to steal his sacrifices.
  • Emmrich: He’ll take notice once we free those poor prisoners.
  • Harding: But we’re trying to steal his sacrifices. He’ll notice.
  • Lucanis: He’ll figure it out once the prisoners are gone.
  • Taash: He’ll know once we free the elves.

Rook: We’ll worry about that when we have to.

Neve: Then let’s keep moving for now.

Scene continues. [5]

3 - Irreverent: Fewer tentacles are good.

Rook: Hopefully that means fewer tentacles.

Harding in partyHarding not in party
No comment.
  • Bellara: I’m hoping for “none”. None tentacles would be good.
  • Davrin: That’s what worries me: No rules anymore. Could be anything.
  • Emmrich: Yes. Elgar’nan’s resonating in the Fade feels… quite different.
  • Lucanis: I wouldn’t mind another try at Ghilan’nain.
  • Taash: Good. She shouldn’t have done that to her dragon. That was messed up.

Neve: Let’s keep going. This robe is starting to give me a rash.

Scene continues. [5]

4 - Tough: Too bad. She owes us a fight.

Rook: Shame. We have unfinished business with her.

  • Bellara: I mean. Not in any rush to finish it.
  • Davrin: Got a score to settle.
  • Emmrich: What so occupies Ghilan’nain she isn’t here?
  • Harding: Oh, I bet she’s thinking the same thing about us.
  • Lucanis: Next time I see her, she’s dead.
  • Taash: Nobody should mess up a dragon like that.

Neve: Let’s focus on the job at hand: saving the Dalish.

Scene continues. [5]

5 - Scene continues.

Rook continues into the temple.

A God’s Promises

Rook continues into the temple.

(Eerie whispers)

Rook: Does anyone else hear that?

The party doesn’t respond, and they continue.

Elf RookNon-elf Rook
Elgar’nan: Da’len. Garas lasa, da’len. Dear child, you were born into obscurity, sorrow etched on your bones. I see you. I feel your pain.Elgar’nan: I feel you. I see you. I know how you suffer. Come to me, and I will ease your soul.

Rook heads into the Venatori crowd.

  • Bellara: I feel it… in my head…
  • Davrin: A voice in my head, but not an Archdemon.
  • Emmrich: I can hear Elgar’nan, calling.
  • Harding: It… it’s like a buzzing in my head.
  • Lucanis: No. We don’t need another voice in here.
  • Neve: It’s like blood magic. But stronger than I’ve ever felt.
  • Taash: (Growls)

Elgar’nan: Knives and poisons are nothing, little Crow, when I could make you master of life and death.

Rook: He’s making promises. Tempting me.

  • Bellara: No. Not like that. Never like that!
  • Davrin: He’s telling me he’ll get the griffons back.
  • Emmrich: He says he can teach me to bring back those beyond… no, impossible!
  • Harding: He’s… he’s telling me he can protect everyone. My family. Ferelden…
  • Lucanis: All I want from you is a blade in your heart.
  • Taash: Marzblok. Get out of my head. You and Ghilan’nain mistreat your dragons.

Elgar’nan addresses the crowd as Rook pushes through to the stage.

Elgar’nan: For hundreds of years, you have mourned the loss of your dragon gods. From beyond the Veil, I heard your lament, and have come to deliver you from desolation. Dragon of Night, I break your chains. Hear my voice and rise!

The archdemon rises from behind him.

Elgar’nan: I am Elgar’nan, once called Lusacan, and I have returned.

Rook: The Archdemon is already fueling him.

A magical haze takes over the party.

Elgar’nan: Child of my children, I will shower you with the glory of the ancients.

Elgar’nan: All you must do is obey me. Worship me. Love me. And kneel.

Bellara: I… I know this magic. It’s old. And dangerous.

She starts to cast some kind of spell.

Bellara: Mythal’enaste… it’s too strong. I can’t break it.

Neve joins her.

Neve: We’ve got this.

The break Elgar’nan’s hold.

Bellara: I’m trying to conceal us, but he’ll know someone broke his hold!

Neve: Bellara bought us some time, but we have to go. Now.

They leave the amphitheater, leaving their disguises behind as they head into the ruined aqueduct.

Elgar’nan: Venatori, there are uninvited guests among you. Bring them to me.

Neve: He’s sending the cult after us!

  • Bellara: But Elgar’nan is right there! Shouldn’t we try—
  • Davrin: Elgar’nan’s in the open. This is our chance!
  • Emmrich: Elgar’nan is here. We’ve an opportunity—
  • Harding: Elgar’nan is right there! We’re just leaving?
  • Lucanis: Elgar’nan is within my reach. Give me the dagger!
  • Taash: Elgar’nan. We could kill him now.

Rook: No. We can’t touch him now that his Archdemon’s in play. I won’t risk Dalish lives.

They approach a group of Venatori.

Venatori: There they are! Destroy them! For Elgar’nan!

  • Bellara: Shit! We’ve been spotted!
  • Harding: Here they come!
  • Lucanis: They know we’re here!
  • Neve: We’ve caught their attention!

They defeat the Venatori in the aqueduct and keep moving. They see the archdemon across the clearing.

Rook: Look there! The Archdemon!

  • Harding: Does it see us? Please tell me it doesn’t see us.
  • Neve: Yeah. So maybe we avoid its attention?
  • Taash: She’s too big. Elgar’nan used magic to mess with her.

They fight through more Venatori.

Elgar’nan: I want the interlopers at my feet! Your continued failure is a disappointment to your god!

Neve: He’s riling them up! They won’t back down now!

Rook: What happens when they don’t give him what he wants?

Venatori: You cannot win! Our lord Elgar’nan demands blood!

Rook continues into another area full of Venatori.

Venatori:How did they…? Kill them! Just kill them! Venatori:Damn it! Forget the traps—just kill them! Venatori:The trap is sprung! Finish the job! For the risen gods!

As they fight, darkspawn join the fray.

Rook: And now darkspawn?

Neve: Of course. Why wouldn’t the Venatori bring their new friends on a walk?

They defeat the Venatori and darkspawn.

(Archdemon roars in the distance)

  • Bellara: Is that Archdemon coming or what?
  • Davrin: Where’s that Archdemon? Is it on the way?
  • Emmrich: Is the Archdemon heading towards us?
  • Harding: Is the Archdemon attacking?
  • Lucanis: Is the dragon on our trail?
  • Taash: Elgar’nan’s dragon should be attacking by now.

Rook: It… doesn’t seem to be yet.

Neve: Ghilan’nain lost her dragon. Might make Elgar’nan more cautious.

A barrier blocks the way forward.

  • Bellara: The way’s blocked! Some sort of magical barrier!
  • Davrin: Can’t get though here! Weird energy blocking the way!
  • Emmrich: Blocked! They’ve cast barriers around the exits.
  • Harding: The Venatori have cut off the exits! With magic!
  • Lucanis: We’re fenced in! It’s a barrier!
  • Taash: We’re blocked. Some magical crap!

They work their way through a crystal barrier puzzle and drop down a ledge.

Complicated Gates

The party continues.

  • Bellara: Those are Dalish arrows! Looks like Strife and the others have our backs!
  • Davrin: Dalish arrows. The Veil Jumpers are watching our backs.
  • Neve: Dalish arrows. Strife and the other Veil Jumpers were here.

Rook: That’ll take some of the pressure off! We have to use this chance to get to the prisoners!

They head through the ruins, spotting some kind of barrier in the distance.

Rook: Over there! That cage! I think that’s where the Dalish are being held!

  • Bellara: Right. Let’s do this.
  • Davrin: Then nothing’s going to stop us.
  • Emmrich: You’re right! We’ve almost made it.
  • Harding: Almost there. We can make it.
  • Lucanis: Let’s get this done.
  • Taash: Then let’s go!

They begin to cross the ruins.

Elgar’nan: You, intruder, have defiled my temple and spurned the gifts I offer! Ah, you could have had a place of honor as my disciple!

They find some open doors.

Rook: This way! We have to be quick. Before the Venatori catch up.

Rook enters the Court of Tribute.

Venatori: Do not let them through! Send for reinforcements!

They fight and defeat the Venatori. Rook tries to climb the nearby scaffolding, but it collapses.

Rook: (Grunts) Shit.

Rook: That way! Through the gate!

Rook tries the gate lever.

Rook: Damn it. Shut tight and the locking mechanism is on the other side.

Neve: So you’re saying we’re stuck.

Rook: There has to be another way out!

The rest of the companions appear on the upper ledges.

  • Bellara: Looks like you could use some help!
  • Davrin: Not if we have anything to say about it.
  • Emmrich: Can we be of assistance?
  • Harding: Need a hand?
  • Lucanis: Rook, let’s go!
  • Taash: What do you need us to do?

Rook: We’re stuck! Gate’s shut and we can’t open it from here!

  • Bellara: Right! On it! Also, Venatori headed your way. So stay alive!
  • Davrin: We’ll handle it! And watch out for Venatori headed your way. Stay alive!
  • Emmrich: Right. Be careful, you’ve more Venatori on the way!
  • Harding: Leave it to us! But stay alive! There’s Venatori headed your way!
  • Lucanis: We’ll handle it! Watch yourself!
  • Taash: You’ve got Venatori headed your way. You hit them. We’ll hit the gate!

More Venatori appear.

Venatori: Found them! To me, Venatori! I have our quarry!

They keep fighting.

Rook: How’s it looking?

  • Bellara: Complicated. Ancient elven locks are, well… Going to take some time.
  • Davrin: We’ll need a minute to figure out how it releases!
  • Emmrich: Needlessly intricate! Give us just a moment!
  • Harding: There’s a lot of small… gears and things. Just… hang on!
  • Lucanis: It looks like over-complicated nonsense! We’ll need a moment!
  • Taash: It’s fine! Go kill some Venatori!

Rook: Tell me we’re close to getting this thing open.

  • Bellara: Almost there, I think! Maybe!
  • Davrin: Still working on it!
  • Emmrich: Patience is a virtue!
  • Harding: We’re getting there!
  • Lucanis: Closer than we were!
  • Taash: We’re on it!

Rook: There’s an entire Venatori army coming for us!

  • Bellara: We know! Don’t die!
  • Davrin: You can handle them!
  • Emmrich: We’re going as quickly as possible! Hold fast!
  • Harding: We’ll get you out! Don’t worry!
  • Lucanis: Then kill them! Ugh, blasted elven machinery.
  • Taash: You beat Venatori all the time!

Another round of Venatori appear.

Venatori Mage: There is nowhere to run! Your death is our gift to Elgar’nan!

Rook: Still no luck?

These lines are often bugged.

  • Bellara: Sorry!
  • Davrin: Getting there!
  • Emmrich: Just a moment longer!
  • Harding: We’re getting closer!
  • Lucanis: We’re trying! Mierda!
  • Taash: (Frustrated growl)

Rook: Really, are you sure you can open this?

  • Bellara: Yes! We can do it!
  • Davrin: We said we would!
  • Emmrich: If everyone would remain calm, this would go much more quickly!
  • Harding: Everyone breathe! Just breathe! Deep breaths!
  • Lucanis: Who made this gate? Why is it like this?
  • Taash: Ugh. Hang on!

The construct in the room activates.

Rook: What’s that thing?

More Venatori appear, and Rook defeats them all.

Rook: Come on, come on.

The gate opens.

Neve: Well, that’s good!

  • Bellara: We’ll keep the exits clear while you head for the Dalish! Good luck!
  • Davrin: Find the Dalish! We’ll watch the exits! Good luck!
  • Emmrich: We’ll clear the exits while you find the Dalish. Best of luck!
  • Harding: We’ll keep as many off you as we can. Go get the Dalish!
  • Lucanis: Find the captives! We’ll hold the exit!
  • Taash: We’ll keep the exits clear! You get to the Dalish!

Trapped

The rest of the companions leave, and Rook continues through the temple.

Elgar’nan: Your fight is futile. My Venatori are legion. Surrender, and I may yet show mercy.

They keep moving, eventually running into a thick fog. They emerge somewhere sickly green.

Rook: Wait, this feels… off.

Davrin in partyDavrin not in party
Davrin: Wrong in all sorts of ways. How’d we even get here?

Rook: I’m not sure.
  • Bellara: Oh! Oh, this isn’t good. We weren’t here a minute ago.
  • Emmrich: Was that… a displacement. We weren’t here a moment ago.
  • Harding: We’re not where we were, Rook. I don’t like this.
  • Lucanis: What just happened? Where are we?
  • Neve: More than a little. We weren’t here a minute ago.
  • Taash: What kind of vashedan is this? It moved us or something!

Rook picks a path to travel down.

Rook: Come on! We need to find a path through. We still need to think of the Dalish!

Elgar’nan: Ah. So that is what you’re after. The elvhen have been chosen to serve. A glorious purpose.

They seemingly return to where they started.

  • Bellara: Okay. This is very not good.
  • Davrin: Okay, that’s not a coincidence.
  • Emmrich: We are under a looping hermetic enchantment.
  • Harding: We keep getting turned around or… or something!
  • Lucanis: Again?
  • Neve: Isn’t this familiar?
  • Taash: Argh! Come on!

Rook: It’s Elgar’nan. He’s found us.

Neve: And he’s got us trapped. The longer we stay here, the more danger we’re in.

Rook picks another path.

Rook: Shit. There’s blight here. There wasn’t blight before.

Elgar’nan: You cannot stand against me! Every action of yours is futile. My power grows, even now.

They return to the beginning.

Rook: Come on!

Elgar’nan: You are nothing but an insect. Resist if you like. I have an eternity to spare.

Rook: Shit. The Dalish need help and we’re losing precious time going around in circles.

A demons begin to appear, and Rook fights, pressing down another path.

Neve: Do we know the Dalish are still all right? What if Elgar’nan sends the Venatori to—

Rook: One thing at a time! Let’s focus on getting out!

They start again.

Solas: Rook, can you hear me?

Rook: Solas?

They pause for a moment.

Neve: Something’s wrong.

Rook: I thought I just heard Solas.

Solas: You were correct. Elgar’nan’s magic has thinned the Veil, allowing me to speak to you directly.

Dialogue options:

1 - Affable: Help us.

Rook: Solas! We need your help!

Solas: Then I am pleased that, for once, I can offer some assistance.

Scene continues. [4]

2 - Irreverent: Did anyone else hear that?

Rook: I heard him again! Tell me one of you heard that.

  • Bellara: I, um… not really. Sorry.
  • Davrin: Not me. That’s your special gift.
  • Emmrich: Only you possess a bond with Solas, Rook.
  • Harding: We don’t have a link to Solas like you do, Rook!
  • Lucanis: Heard what?
  • Taash: Nope.

Solas: I fear we lack the time for explanation.

Scene continues. [4]

3 - Tough: I’m busy.

Rook: Not the time, Solas.

Solas: The Venatori are coming. Do you truly wish to rebuff an offer of assistance?

Rook: What kind of assistance?

Scene continues. [4]

4 - Scene continues.
Return to previous tree.

Solas: If you can rescue the elves, Elgar’nan is mine to face.

Rook: What do you mean?

Solas: Elgar’nan! Lethallin! Ma banal’evanuris. Ma salin ar ghilana?

Elf RookNon-Elf Rook
Rook: I see what you mean.Rook: Didn’t need to get that to get that.

Rook: Let’s keep moving! Solas is going to distract Elgar’nan!

A doorway forms, and Rook heads through.

Elgar’nan: Fen’Harel! You have no power here!

  • Bellara: Sounds like they’re arguing! That’s good!
  • Davrin: Sounds like Solas pissed him off. Score one for Baldy.
  • Emmrich: Incredible. To bear witness to this ancient rivalry!
  • Harding: Oh, I don’t think he’s happy about that.
  • Lucanis: Whoever that is sure got his attention.
  • Taash: Solas made him mad.

Rook: As long as it keeps him off us.

Rook begins to fight their way through blight.

Elgar’nan: So the Dread Wolf has arrived to defend his pawn.

Solas: Your cruelty forced my hand.

Elgar’nan: A hundred generations, and still the same refrain.

Solas: Again you have caged our people, and again, I will set them free.

They activate a bridge and cross it.

Elgar’nan: But you were always stubborn, Fen’Harel. Insubordinate. Unmanageable, even by Mythal’s reckoning.

Solas: You have lost the right to speak her name.

Rook destroys more blight boils, finding darkspawn to fight.

Elgar’nan: Ma vallas ban! Shev gar, Fen’Harel!

Solas: The only reason Mythal joined you was that she knew the monster you would become if left unchecked. She thought to temper your brutish ego. Instead, you betrayed her. Murdered her.

Elgar’nan: (Chuckles) Only the first time, Dread Wolf.

They defeat the darkspawn.

  • Bellara: Hey, you… you okay?
  • Davrin: Rook, what’s wrong? You okay?
  • Emmrich: Rook? Are you all right?
  • Harding: You’re looking a little pale. Are you…
  • Lucanis: Are you all right?
  • Taash: Hey. You okay?

Rook: I can hear them in my head.

They continue through more blight and darkspawn.

Rook: We can do this. We have to do this.

Elgar’nan: Your struggle is pointless, and your faith in the Dread Wolf is misplaced. Give up. Save yourself. Save your friends.

Another bridge forms.

Rook: I can see the way through! I think Solas’s distraction is working!

They pass through the fogged door, returning to the temple ruins.

Fight for the Dalish

The emerge back in the temple.

Rook: I think this is it! I think we’re through!

Solas: You should be near where you need to be. With luck, you can still save the elves.

Rook: And there! The Dalish!

A barrier stands in their way.

  • Bellara: Another of those crystals! Break it, and the cage should open!
  • Davrin: And another one of those damned crystals! Break it! Open the cage!
  • Emmrich: Another one of those crystals! Break it and the cage will open!
  • Harding: Destroy the magical crystal keeping the cage locked!
  • Lucanis: Break the crystal, and let’s go!
  • Neve: Another one of those crystals! Break it and get that cage open!
  • Taash: Let’s break the crystal and get them out of there!

Venatori: Guard the elves! They belong to Elgar’nan!

Rook starts to fight the Venatori.

Solas: The cruelty is nothing new, but what has happened to the vaunted brilliant mind of Elgar’nan the mighty? The blight has left you blunt and slow, a monster, not a mastermind. You used to be a challenging opponent.

Elgar’nan: You saw me as an opponent. To me, you were an irritation. A fly buzzing ceaselessly.

Solas: I must speak to you in this tongue. It seems elven is beyond your grasp.

Elgar’nan: As much as freedom is beyond yours.

Neve: Rook? Rook!

Rook: What? Were you talking to— Sorry, they’re… they’re very loud.

They destroy a crystal barrier and continue fighting.

Venatori: Get them! Kill them! We cannot fail Lord Elgar’nan!

Solas: Once the blight is free, it will rule this world, and you will be its attack dog. You will burn this world at its command, as Andruil did at yours, and you will leave only ruin behind you.

Elgar’nan: This world is ruined already! Your Veil destroyed it!

Solas: You could heal it. You have the strength to repair the damage without using the blight!

Elgar’nan: (Choked laughter) Save your games for the mortals, Dread Wolf. The blight is my blade, and it will take more than your tricks to get me to lay it down.

Rook begins to fight more Venatori and a contruct.

Venatori: Stop them! They must not release the Dalish!

Elgar’nan: Your whining comes from envy, Fen’Harel, but it does not have to be so. There is a place for you at my side in a new, glorious empire.

Solas: But it will not have eluvians, will it? June built them, and now he is dead. Our great cities came from Sylaise. Our deepest mysteries from Dirthamen.

Elgar’nan: I will restore it all. Their achievements will not be lost.

Solas: You were a bully who ruled over what others had built, and now the others are gone. Who do you have left? Ghilan’nain? You cannot rebuild a world by stitching together monsters.

Rook defeats the construct and destroys the barrier to the Dalish.

  • Dalish Elf 1: Over here!
  • Dalish Elf 2: Help us! Please!
  • Dalish Elf 3: I don’t want to die!
  • Dalish Elf 3: Get us out of here!

Rook breaks the final barrier.

  • Dalish Elf 1: Hurry! More Venatori are coming!
  • Dalish Elf 2: You’ve saved us!
  • Dalish Elf 3: Is it over?

Rook: Time to get out of here!

Solas: I can guide you to one of my old hideouts. You can use it to make your escape. The wards still in place there will shield you all from Elgar’nan’s sight.

Rook: Solas. Thank you.

The scene cuts to Rook and the Dalish fleeing.

Rook: Let’s go! Let’s go! Run! Run!

Rook stops and looks back—Elgar’nan watches them leave. The scene cuts to one of Varric’s narrations.

Varric: It’s tough being a Venatori. It was their duty to secure the sacrifices. It was their duty to ensure the ritual went perfectly. But despite all their efforts, Elgar’nan was disappointed. The cult would do anything to please their gods. The cult would give anything to atone. Anything.

The scene shows the archdemon’s gaping maw.

Varric: It really is tough being a Venatori.

Return to the Lighthouse

The party returns to the Lighthouse, meeting up with Strife and some other elves.

Dalish Elf 1: We’d lost all hope, and then…

Dalish Elf 2: And then you swooped in out of nowhere to save us!

Dalish Elf 1: He would’ve killed us to feed his dragon!

Strife: Indeed. Ma serannas, [lethallin/lethallan/lethallen].

Return to previous tree.

Strife: Celebrate the victories as they come. They’re rare enough.

Rook: And tomorrow we’ll have to deal with another Archdemon.

Rook laughs nervously.

Strife: And it will have regained its strength. Elgar’nan sacrificed his own Venatori to it—a punishment for their failures.
