The Shadowed Sun

Harding chosen to lead the distraction

Harding: And I’ll be focused on the Antaam. I won’t be there to look out for you.

Inner demons not completed

Lucanis: You’re putting your life in the hands of a confused demon and an insomniac.

Isle of the Gods

Island Traversal

  • Bellara: Right. But now there’s deepstalkers!
  • Davrin: Must be why these deepstalkers crawled out.
  • Emmrich: Now we’ve deepstalkers, instead.
  • Harding: Ugh! Deepstalkers must’ve come out after they left.
  • Lucanis: Mierda! Deepstalkers!
  • Neve: Maybe that’s why the deepstalkers came out to play.
  • Taash: (Sniffs) Don’t let ‘em bite you! They smell blighted.

  • Bellara: More blight here. So much more. The gods must be hiding something.
  • Davrin: This place is neck-deep in blight. What don’t the gods want us to find?
  • Emmrich: Whatever are the gods walling off with this amount of blight?
  • Harding: We’re not through yet? What are the gods hiding behind all this blight?
  • Lucanis: All this blight. What are the gods hiding?
  • Neve: The blight’s blocking us on purpose. What don’t the gods want us to find?

Rook: Agh!

  • Bellara: Did Ghilan’nain hurt you, Rook?
  • Davrin: Ghilan’nain! What did she do?
  • Harding: Rook! Did Ghilan’nain hurt you?
  • Lucanis: What did Ghilan’nain do?
  • Taash: What’d Ghilan’nain do to you?
  • Neve: Ghilan’nain! Rook, are you hurt?

About Fade rifts:

Rook: Ghilan’nain changed it and made the tears more dangerous.

Rook: Be careful. Don’t go any closer to them than you have to.

Rook: Good point. But our only way to the ritual site’s through that door.

The God’s Lair

Bellara clearing wardsNeve clearing wards
Bellara: You could look around, Rook. I’ll need a minute with these wards.Neve: You can check the place out. I’ll be a minute with the wards.

Rook: Do you think… is this where Ghilan’nain and Elgar’nan live?

  • Harding: Ugh. It must be, with all this blight.
  • Davrin: That’d explain why the Calling’s so loud.
Grey WardenNon–Grey Warden
Rook: Right? Like a gong.Rook: You okay, Davrin?

Davrin: Assan’s snoring is worse.

Neve: Venhedis!

Lucanis: Are you all right?

Neve: Oh, I’m fine. Damn ward’s just more of a puzzle than it looked.

Bellara: Damn it!

Lucanis: Something wrong?

Bellara: I’m fine! The wards are just tricky. More than I thought they’d be.

Rook: Is this what the world will look like if the gods pull all the blight from the Fade?

Emmrich: I wonder if they even realize it. How everything they touch is twisted.

Taash: How could they not? This whole place is messed up!

Bellara: Just being here raises every hair on my neck. Oh! What does this artifact do, though?

Emmrich: Nothing we can risk exploring at the moment.

Bellara: I know! (Sighs) I know.

Emmrich: I’ll be glad to leave this place, dearest.Emmrich: I’ll be happy to put these chambers behind us.

Emmrich: Even without the gods, there are echoes of… presences, here.

Davin led the distraction

Davrin: (Hissing in pain) Those Antaam can really swing a sword.

Rook: Davrin? Are you all right?

Davrin: For a minute? Thought our half of the team was done for and I’d have to send Assan over to you.

Davrin: But we’re still standing. Whatever it takes.

Assan: (Determined squawk)

Davrin: The gods definitely spent a lot of time here. I can tell.

Harding led the distraction

Harding: (Tired sigh) Let’s take a minute to catch our breaths.

Rook: Are you okay, Harding?

Harding: I won’t lie: Between the Antaam and the darkspawn, it was rough out there.

Harding: But we’ll get you through. Whatever it takes.

Harding: It must have been beautiful here, once. Sure can’t see it any longer.

Lucanis: Spite is miserable here. Even for him. Like a cat that caught scent of a lion.

Lucanis (Spite): Stay! Back! Too much!

Neve: Well, isn’t this a treat? Standing right in the home of the gods. Wonder if they’ll fix it up, or look for a brand new palace.

Taash: This place stinks. It’s not just the blight. I can smell the Antaam. I think this is where she changed some of ‘em. It’s… it’s messed up. Really messed up.

Rook: How’s it going?

Neve: Looks like a two-person job. Maybe you can help. Won’t be pretty, but look for runes painted in blood. Read them out loud for me.

Rook: On it.

Rook: Found those runes. They say… “The Blood of the Faithful shall protect the Twin Crowns.”

Neve: Of course. Two gods. Two different locks. I can get this open when you’re ready.

Rook: How’s it going?

Bellara: Terrible. Well, doable. Rook, maybe you can help. I can get around this with a tuning resonator. See if there’s a crystal in here and tap it once.

Rook: On it.

Rook: I found that crystal, Bellara. Feels like it’s… pulsing.

Bellara: Right. Just like in Arlathan. It’s pulsing with the blight’s resonance. I can open the door now. Just say when.

(Cannon fire)

Davrin: More Antaam. We’ll take them. Just get to the gods.

Rook: Damn it I—I’m going!

Rook: Come on!

  • Bellara: The blight boils keep growing back!
  • Davrin: Those blight boils keep coming back!
  • Harding: Those blight boils keep growing!
  • Emmrich: Those pockets of blight keep growing back!
  • Lucanis: The blight boils. They’re growing back!
  • Neve: Those damn pockets of blight keep growing back!
  • Taash: Damn blight boils grow back!

Rook: Get rid of them faster!

Rook: We’ll get her back!

Elgar’nan: Things would go better, Rook, if you cease striving against the only gods this miserable world has to lead it.

Elgar’nan: You are regrettably tenacious, Rook.

Ghilan’nain: Focus on completing the dagger, Elgar’nan. I will greet our mortal guest.

Rook: Lucanis, talk to me!

Lucanis: Don’t worry about me. I’m ready! So is Spite.

Lucanis: Rook. Did we…? (Coughs)

Solas

TEMP: Rook stands over Ghilan’nain’s body, holding Solas’ dagger. The raging Fade storm dies down, and Fade tears start to flicker out. Rook bends down by Lucanis for a moment, to see if he’s alive. (For Flashback Later: Rook surreptitiously puts REAL godslayer dagger in Lucanis’s coat, then draws their FAKE godslaying dagger in its place) Rook gets up from Lucanis, takes a couple steps away, and drops to their knees, exhausted and drained. Then they hear a familiar voice from one last Fade tear in front of them…

Solas: And so you have your victory. You live… and Ghilan’nain does not. Are you not proud to finally reach this moment? Or did you think you’d win the day without some painful sacrifice?

TEMP: Rook says nothing, head bowed. Solas is close, standing right in front of them on other side of the shimmering Veil

Solas: What is it you regret the most, I wonder?

TEMP: Rook looks up, moves closer to Solas, clutching the dagger like a talisman.

Dialogue options:
  • I hate all of this.
Rook: I regret this whole disaster.

  • I didn’t save my friends.
Rook: I regret I lost too many.

  • I regret that I worked with you.
Rook: I regret that I worked with you.

Solas: I believe that should be just enough.

TEMP: He reaches out, and the Veil shivers as Solas touches the barrier. Sudden jarring flash of light. Solas is now standing where Rook was. He looks down at the blue dagger now in his hands.

Solas: Regret, like all emotion, is a powerful thing.

TEMP: Rook, now on the other side of the Veil, looks around in shock.

Solas: Powerful enough to reach through the Veil and make a doorway between the physical world and the Fade. Even powerful enough to convince my prison to accept you in my place.

TEMP: Rook tries to reach through the barrier but can’t.

Rook: Solas…?

Solas: You were never ready to make the sacrifices that leadership requires. And so it fell to me, again, to make those sacrifices… starting with you.

TEMP: Rook begins to bang on the Veil barrier.

Rook: Solas, no!

Solas: You and your friends stood against gods. Your courage is laudable… but mortals could never win this battle. Elgar’nan is mine to face… as he always was.

TEMP: Solas turns away from the Veil, which begins to close behind him. He raises the dagger, and a wave of energy flashes out, clearing the way ahead of him. Without looking back, gives Rook one parting line.

Solas: Your work is done.

TEMP: Rook is left yelling as the Veil barrier closes all the way.

Rook: Solas! Solas!

Rook: I don’t understand. What is this?

Rook: What are you doing here, Solas? How are you here? Why?

Solas: Elgar’nan is mine to face… as he always was.

A Cage for Gods

Rook: (Breathes)

Rook: Always a way out.

Rook: You… can’t be here.

Varric: Good! Now you’re thinking.

  • Varric: There’s always a way out.
  • Varric: Solas found his. Now you need to find yours.
  • Varric: Come on.

  • Rook: No.
  • Rook: There has to be some way out of here.
  • Rook: I have to get out.

Rook: What is this?

Rook: So how do I escape that?

Rook: “Things always seem impossible. Just fight one battle at a time.”

Varric: Right! Just like I always said.

Varric: And there’s a way forward.

Rook: That easy, huh? Just keep going?

Varric: As bad as things are, you have what you need.

  • Rook: I won’t let you take that from her.
  • Rook: You don’t get to take that from her.

Davrin: Like a friend.

Davrin: Every damned day, you threw yourself into this fight. Sacrificing yourself for this team.

Harding: To keep you going? To keep us going? I’d do it again. Because you would. And because I know you’ll make it count.

Rook: You were such an important part of this team.

  • Rook: But now, you’re gone. Because you gave your life for mine.
  • Rook: But now you’re gone. Because you gave your life for this fight.

Rook: And now? I’ll make sure your sacrifice was worth it.

Rook: By the end, we were more than just a team.

Rook: It wasn’t always easy. But it was important.

Varric: That’s great, kid. Now what about mine?

Rook: You told me you were going to talk to Solas. Give him another option.

Varric: And you thought he might listen. Turns out, we were both wrong.

Varric: And you told me he wouldn’t listen. Turns out, you were right.

Varric: I’ll disappear. I’m just a memory, after all.

Varric: I’m just a memory, kid. Twisted a little bit with some of Solas’s magic. He wanted to keep you off-balance. So he made me out of the one thing you could never accept.

Rook: Right.

Lucanis: And once that’s done, Solas goes for Elgar’nan—with the dagger he took from us.
