Rambling
Back to Bellara Directory
Personal Conversation
Available after entering the Crossroads for the first time.
Bellara is laying on the ground in her room, working on the Nadas Dirthalen.
Bellara: Ah… Oh, shit! No! Okay. Try again. Deep breaths. Hmm. Mmhmm… mmhmm… mmhmm… mmhmm. (Gasps) There!
She stands.
Archive Spirit: (Distantly) Sulahn’nehn. Vir sulevanan…
She starts smacking it with her wrench.
Bellara: (Frustrated grunts) Gah! Damn it!
The wrench flies from her hands and almost hits Rook as they walk in.
Bellara: Oh, no! Sorry! Just breaking things.
Dialogue options:
1 - Affable: It’s okay.
Rook: Take a deep breath. Let’s talk this through.
Bellara: I wish I could. But I can’t. Not right now. My thoughts just keep bouncing around. Won’t line up.
2 - Sarcastic: Can I try?
Rook: Want help? I could, I don’t know, kick it or something?
Bellara: Oh! Yes. Just be careful. Some things don’t do well. If you break them, I mean.
Rook: What kind of “don’t do well” are we talking about?
Bellara: Oh, you know. Reality tears. Wild magical energy. Also, for some reason, bees. I… don’t know why. And I don’t know why this won’t work. Thought I’d figured it out. But it keeps breaking. And I can’t get my thoughts to line up.
Rook: You fixed the eluvian, though.
3 - Stoic: That won’t help.
Rook: Easy, there. Smashing things won’t help.
Bellara: Sorry. I’m frustrated. My thoughts aren’t lining up.
4 - Scene continues.
Return to previous tree.Bellara: The eluvian was easy. Once I replaced the resonance crystal, adjusted the lyrium lens, it worked fine. I mean, I had to re-align the matrices. But it just worked. Not like this thing.
Dialogue options:
- Flirt: You’re smart. You’ve got this. [5]
- Affable: You’ll de better than I would. [6]
- Stoic: Give yourself a break. [7]
5 - Flirt: You’re smart. You’ve got this.
Rook: You don’t give yourself enough credit. You’re smart. You’ll figure it out.
Bellara: Well. Thank you. For thinking that.
Rook: Of course.
6 - Affable: You’ll de better than I would.
Rook: Bellara, I don’t understand half the words you just used. You’ll figure this out. Whatever “this” is.
7 - Stoic: Give yourself a break.
Rook: This stuff’s thousands of years old. Nobody could figure it out right away. Also… what is it, exactly?
8 - Scene continues.
Return to previous tree.Bellara: It’s the Nadas Dirthalen. The eighth Archive. We— I heard it was gone forever. But here it is.
Rook: So what does it do?
Bellara: It knows things. Whatever its creator knew, at least. So much knowledge. All the wonders of Elvhenan. Or at least, bits of them. Which is more than we have. Once I figure it out, at least. Whoever made it was powerful. But clumsy. It’s resonating off-tempo. Need to match it. First, introduce a micro-fracture. But before that, you’ll need the Fade harmonics, so—Sorry. I ramble sometimes. I’m a rambler. Ruined a lot of relationships. Most of the people I’ve been with didn’t care for it. And… I’m doing it. Again.
Dialogue options:
- Flirt: I like your rambling. [9]
- Affable: It’s okay. [10]
- Sarcastic: I’m right there with you. [11]
- Stoic: Focus on the task. [12]
9 - Flirt: I like your rambling.
Rook: I could listen to you ramble all day.
Bellara: Oh. Well. Same to you! Not that you ramble. You should talk more! I mean, you talk plenty. Just the right amount. Ideal talking.
10 - Affable: It’s okay.
Rook: Don’t worry about it. It doesn’t bother me.
Bellara: Oh! Well, good.
11 - Sarcastic: I’m right there with you.
Rook: I’ve been known to ramble now and then. Sometimes I get ahead of my thoughts, and when I try to sort them out, they’re all jumbled.
Bellara: Right! And they’re slippery, and fast, and you can only catch some of them. I wish I could catch the thought that would let me fix this thing.
12 - Stoic: Focus on the task.
Rook: It’s an ancient elven artifact. An unstable one. Just get it working. And try not to blow anything up.
Bellara: Oh! Okay. I’ll remember that.
13 - Scene continues.
Return to previous tree.Bellara: Okay. Anyway. The Nadas Dirthalen. I’ll get back to it. Soon. But I think I need a break. Maybe take a nap. And I can finish later.
Dialogue options:
14 - Affable: Whatever helps.
Rook: Hey, if napping works, then nap away.
Bellara: Okay! I will.
15 - Sarcastic: Good plan.
Rook: Personally, I always endorse napping.
Bellara: Right! Never underestimate a good nap.
16 - Stoic: Don’t take too long.
Rook: We can’t wait too long.
Bellara: Right. A short nap, then.
17 - Scene continues.
Return to previous tree.Bellara: Anyways. Let me know if you need me. I’ll be ready.
+ Bellara Approves
The scene fades, and one of Varric’s narratives cuts in.
Varric: They’d found someone who could fix their mirror—one of Arlathan’s own Veil Jumpers. Just what they were looking for. And Bellara had found something else: an artifact that held a wealth of lost knowledge. But a prize like that was going to attract more attention than they’d bargained for.
