(Required if Minrathous is saved)

This is Ominous

Rook finds Lucanis standing by the dining table with a bunch of knives sticking out of it.

Rook: This is ominous…

Lucanis: Viago found something.

Rook: Something bad, I take it?

Choice dependent dialogue:

Lucanis: Venatori have been sighted among the relief effort in Treviso. Zara’s minions, perhaps. But Illario is certain Zara is in Vyrantium, and that any Venatori are another distraction.

Rook: What do you think?

Lucanis: I think I need to visit Treviso and find out for myself.

Dialogue options:

1 - Affable: I’ve got your back.

Rook: You don’t have to face Treviso or Zara by yourself, Lucanis. You can count on me.

Lucanis: I can? That’s good to know.

Rook: All things considered, I’d say I owe you a favor. Let me help.

Scene continues. [4]

2 - Sarcastic: Should be easy.

Rook: Get in, avoid the blight, defeat a powerful Venatori, and take out anyone in our way. Easy.

Lucanis: “Our” way? I wasn’t planning to bring an accomplice.

Scene continues. [4]

3 - Stoic: I’m coming. No arguments.

Rook: You’re not going alone.

Lucanis: I can handle this, Rook.

Rook: Between what Zara did to you, Spite, and everything happening in Treviso, you can’t know that. Besides, it’s a chance to clear the air between us.

Scene continues. [4]

4 - Scene continues.
Return to previous tree.

Lucanis: You don’t need to do this. But, it will make for a smoother operation… The one advantage of the chaos in Treviso is: informants get desperate. It took an obscene amount of money, but I have a solid lead. Zara is in the chantry there.

Rook: What’s she doing in a chantry?

Lucanis: If she’s there to pray, it won’t save her from me.

Return to choice selection.

Finding Zara

Rook heads to Treviso.

If Rook saved Minrathous
Rook meets Lucanis and another Crow near the Chantry

Antivan Crow: Over here. I have a route to the chantry. Let me know when you’re ready.

Continue to next section.

They meet with a Crow in the marketplace.

Antivan Crow: The Fifth Talon said someone was coming. That’s you?

Lucanis in partyLucanis not in party
Antivan Crow: The Demon of Vyrantium? I thought you were dead!

Lucanis: I get that a lot.

Antivan Crow: We found a group of Venatori hiding out in the market. Not far from Café Pietra.

Lucanis: I knew it. I told Illario they were still here.
Antivan Crow: We found a group of Venatori hiding out in the market. Not far from Café Pietra.

Rook: Let’s see if they know where we can find Zara Renata.

If Rook talks to the Crow again:
Antivan Crow: They’re hiding near the café. You can’t miss them. They stick out like blasted Tevinter flags.

They continue towards a door in the Grande Markets.

Rook: It’s locked.

  • Bellara: There must be another way. Up, maybe?
  • Davrin: So we don’t go through the door.
  • Emmrich: Perhaps there’s another way in.
  • Harding: I guess we’re going around, then.
  • Lucanis: So we go up.
  • Neve: Look around. There must be a way in.
  • Taash: Gotta be some way in. Let’s poke around.

Rook finds a hole in the wall nearby, climbing into some rafters. They emerge on a rooftop.

Venatori: Get moving, you layabouts! Don’t keep Aquila waiting! He’ll be a miserable pain in the ass all day.

The party jumps down to fight.

Venatori: Intruders! Deal with this quickly!

They defeat the Venatori.

First comment:

  • Bellara: Oh, you can just smell the Venatori over there. Can’t you? Not just me?
  • Davrin: There’s the problem with walls: Venatori can be on either side.
  • Emmrich: Odd how the Antaam don’t try to flush them out of there.
  • Harding: That’s Venatori, and a lot of them.
  • Lucanis: These Venatori put roaches to shame.
  • Neve: Of course the Venatori are here. Where aren’t they?
  • Taash: How’d the Venatori get in here? The Antaam are terrible at security.

Second comment:

  • Bellara: We usually don’t see many Venatori in Arlathan. If they show up, the forest tends to react… poorly.
  • Davrin: Once they’re in, they’re in.
  • Emmrich: They’re regrettably difficult to expel.
  • Harding: How many Venatori can you fight in one lifetime?
  • Lucanis: The Talons keep them contained. Take your eyes off them, they turn up everywhere.
  • Neve: They’re damn hard to get rid of.
  • Taash: Like rats in the last bag of rice.

They continue across the rooftops and through some buildings until they fight more Venatori.

  • Bellara: Okay! Let’s see if there’s anything to tell us where they came from.
  • Davrin: They were sloppy. They must have left us tracks to follow. Keep an eye out.
  • Emmrich: Surely they left behind some clue as to their leader’s whereabouts.
  • Harding: Maybe we can figure out where they were moving this stuff.
  • Lucanis: Look around. We need to know where they came from.
  • Neve: Well, let’s see if they left us a trail.
  • Taash: Where’s Zara?

They look around, reading notes in the room.

Crumpled Paper

The mistress wants an update from Calivan. Who was sent to get his report? Find them at once.

Lucanis in partyLucanis not in party
Lucanis: Nothing useful.Rook: Nothing in here.

Venatori Note

Are there more Antaam on the move than usual? Increase our guard. But carefully.

Lucanis in partyLucanis not in party
Lucanis: (Sighs) I was hoping for a lead.Rook: This won’t get us anywhere.

Venatori Note

Everyone is to keep to the rooftops as much as possible. The Antaam presence is a complication to the mistress’s plan. And for Lusacan’s sake, avoid the bloody Crows. We are not to show our hand.

Venatori Note

Julius, the escort has been sent as ordered. The mistress’s new pet will arrive safely at her estate in Tevinter before tomorrow.

Lucanis in partyLucanis not in party
Lucanis: This won’t help us.Rook: Hmm.

Official Document

Julius, I am placing you in charge of this. Move everything to the bank. It will be taken to Vyrantium from there. And see that there are no more “misplaced” valuables. The mistress is not understanding. Do no disappoint me. You know how highly Zara favors me. I should certain be annoyed if I had to replace you with someone more suitable. —Aquila

Lucanis in partyLucanis not in party
Lucanis: Here. Now, this could lead us somewhere. One step closer to the target.Rook: Ah! Now, this might get us somewhere.

Rook: “Aquila,” huh? And he’s Zara’s toady. Let’s go meet Zara’s trusted little toady at the bank.

Rook’s party heads towards the bank.

Rook: What are Venatori doing so far from Tevinter?

  • Bellara: They’ll go anywhere, if it means bringing back the bad old days.
  • Davrin: Nothing good, that’s for sure.
  • Emmrich: There are few places they wouldn’t go, should their gods demand it.
  • Harding: When I was with the Inquisition, we found them all over. In Val Royeaux, the Hissing Wastes, everywhere.
  • Lucanis: To the Venatori, all of Thedas is “former Tevinter” just waiting to return to the empire.
  • Neve: Venatori are like rats. They go wherever they find opportunity.
  • Taash: The same thing they do everywhere. Cause trouble.

They climb another building to find more Venatori.

Lucanis in partyLucanis not in party
Aquila: What’s this? The Demon of Vyrantium? Impossible!

Rook: He knows you?

Lucanis: He’s one of Zara’s.
Antivan Crow:

Aquila: Well, it seems not all the Crows were so well diverted as Zara promised.

Non-Antivan Crow:

Aquila: Wonderful. Angry peasants. As if I didn’t have enough to deal with.

They fight.

Lucanis in partyLucanis not in party
Aquila: This isn’t necessary! Surely we can strike a bargain?

Lucanis: No deals.
Aquila: The Venatori could employ you rabble! We have many opportunities!

Aquila vanishes.

Lucanis in partyLucanis not in party
Lucanis: Follow him. He can lead us to Zara.Rook: That guy seemed like just what we needed. Let’s see if he can show us where Zara is.

They pursue him, fighting more Venatori on the way.

Lucanis in partyLucanis not in party
Aquila: Still following me? You’ll regret leaving your little cell, demon!Aquila: Did you think you had me on the run, peasant? Think again!

They defeat him.

  • Bellara: Search his body? Just in case anything leads us to his boss?
  • Davrin: Let’s check his body. Might tell us where his boss is.
  • Emmrich: We should examine the body. Something might point to their leader.
  • Harding: Check the body. Maybe there’s clues about where his boss is.
  • Lucanis: Check the body.
  • Neve: Check the body. See if anything points to his boss.
  • Taash: Might be something on the body.

Rook: His pockets are stuffed with jewelry from the chantry.

Lucanis in partyLucanis not in party
Lucanis: Venatori in a chantry? Let’s see if we can catch them there.Rook: So that’s almost definitely where we’re going next.

The Chantry

Rook meets with Lucanis, and they climb into more rafters.

Saved MinrathousSaved Treviso
Rook: How much did you pay your informant, again?

Lucanis: Enough to be certain. Zara is here. She owes me a debt of blood and misery. Paid in full.
Rook: Are you sure you’re ready for this? Facing Zara, I mean.

Lucanis: I lost a year of my life to that Venatori witch. I owe her for that.

They exit out onto the rooftops.

Illario: There you are! What took you so long? Did you stop for coffee again?

They approach.

Lucanis: Illario? What are you doing here?

Illario: I’m coming with you, cousin. No arguments.

Lucanis: This is my job.

Illario: This is Crow business.

Lucanis: How did you even know we’d be here?

Illario: Ah, Rook. Come to see how we’re faring? Treviso will blossom again. You must let me show you the progress we’ve made.

Illario: Rook! Always a pleasure. Touring the city with my cousin? You must allow me to show you the sights.

Dialogue options:

1 - Affable: Let’s all go together.

Rook: We’re all here. We may as well go see Zara together.

Illario: There, you see? Rook understands.

Lucanis: Rook! Don’t encourage him.

Scene continues. [4]

2 - Sarcastic: Scenic Venatori, my favorite.
Saved MinrathousSaved Treviso
Rook: Nothing says “we’re revitalizing Treviso” like scattering Venatori across the streets.

Illario: That’s the spirit! Listen to Rook, cousin.
Rook: Treviso is the best city. Seeing the sights, murdering them, sneaking away on rooftops. It’s got everything.

Lucanis: Rook! Don’t encourage him.

Scene continues. [4]

3 - Stoic: Lucanis said no.

Rook: Lucanis told you not to come.

Scene continues. [4]

4 - Scene continues.
Return to previous tree.

Lucanis: This isn’t your type of job, cousin. There’s no one you can charm into dropping their guard. Only fanatics. All you can do is get yourself killed.

Illario: You think I’m not good enough?

Lucanis: Are you?

Illario: Fine. Have it your way, cousin. You know best.

Lucanis: Let’s go, Rook. Zara is waiting.

They start to leave.

Illario: Go on, then. Don’t keep Zara waiting.

They enter the Chantry, where they find Venatori.

Rook: You were right, Lucanis. They are hiding in the chantry.

Porcia: Dragon of Night, hear the prayers of your faithful.

Rook’s party attacks.

Porcia: You dare interrupt? Venatori! Make an offering of their blood to Lord Lusacan and Lady Razikale!

They defeat the Venatori.

  • Bellara: Is that it? Venatori-wise, I mean.
  • Davrin: That’s the last of them.
  • Emmrich: That’s the last of them.
  • Harding: Got them all, I think.
  • Neve: Is that all of them?
  • Taash: Is that it? Did we get Zara?

Lucanis: No, that was Porcia, Zara’s favorite Dreamer and soothsayer. She used to come to the Ossuary to read bones. If she’s here, so is Zara.

They continue through the Chantry until they find a switch. Rook activates it, revealing a ladder down.

Rook: Where does this go?

Lucanis: Another dark hole.

They climb down.

Lucanis: Zara will not escape me.

Rook: We’ll finish the job.

They fight more Venatori.

Lucanis: We cannot stop now.

The emerge back above ground and enter a courtyard where more Venatori attack..

Faustus: You! I will bring Lady Zara your beating hearts as a gift!

Rook defeats them.

Lucanis: Faustus. He’d follow Zara around the prison like a sycophantic shadow. We’re close. He won’t be far from her side.

They continue, fighting even more Venatori.

Nonus: Enough!

Decimus: You die.

Lucanis: And here are the bodyguards. Let’s make this quick.

They defeat them.

Lucanis: Nonus and Decimus. I don’t know if those were their names or if Zara just numbered her guards.

Rook continues.

Lucanis: We’re close. I can feel someone using blood magic. A lot of blood magic.

Rook: You can sense that?

Lucanis: It makes the back of my eyes hurt.

They enter a hallway filled with corpses and flies.

  • Bellara: That’s a lot of bodies.
  • Davrin: That’s a lot of dead people.
  • Emmrich: All these poor souls will need proper funeral rites after this.
  • Harding: What happened here?
  • Neve: The work of a blood mage.
  • Taash: Look at all the corpses. They just left ‘em here. That’s messed up.

Zara Renata

They enter the door, where the find Zara in a massive bath of blood.

Zara: Lucanis. It’s terribly uncivilized to drop in on a lady unannounced. Now the evening’s ruined.

Dialogue options:

1 - Affable: Well, this is awkward.

Rook: Of all the ways this could go down, I didn’t expect we’d catch you in the bath.

Zara: This interruption won’t last long.

Scene continues. [4]

2 - Sarcastic: You’re a little messy.

Rook: You’ve got something on yourself.

Zara: How very eloquent.

Scene continues. [4]

3 - Stoic: It’s over Zara.

Rook: You’re going to pay for everything you’ve done.

Zara: Spoken like a true peasant.

Scene continues. [4]

4 - Scene continues.
Return to previous tree.

They fight.

Lucanis: You’re mine, Zara! This ends with my knife through your heart!

Zara: Temper, temper, Lucanis.

  • Zara: You have made a terrible mistake.
  • Zara: Such poor manners, interrupting my bath.
  • Zara: Vermin in my bath chamber? That just won’t do.

Zara: Whatever shall we do with you?

  • Bellara: You won’t do a thing!
  • Davrin: Better question is what Lucanis will do to you!
  • Emmrich: Not a thing!
  • Harding: You’re not doing anything!
  • Neve: You won’t do a damn thing!
  • Taash: Shut up!

Phase change:

  • Zara: That’s enough of that.
  • Zara: You really are predictable.
  • Zara: I tire of this.
  • Zara: Is that all?

Zara heals:

  • Zara: Blood is life.
  • Zara: A true maleficar is not easily beaten.
  • Zara: Ah, perfection.
  • Zara: I command life and death.

Charged attack:

  • Zara: For Tevinter reborn!
  • Zara: Razikale, hear me!
  • Zara: In Lusacan’s name!
  • Zara: For the glory of the risen gods!

Low health:
Zara: Is it not enough?
Lucanis: Not until you’re dead!

Zara: No! Not yet…

They knock her to the ground, and she struggles to stand.

Zara: So serious, Lucanis! Why don’t we talk? I can tell you much about Venatori… and our pet Crows.

Spite: No. I want. Her heart. Quivering. On our knife.

Zara: You want to know who betrayed you, don’t you? Who sent you to the Ossuary?

Lucanis: Talk.

Zara: I knew you were—

Illario drops into the room.

Lucanis: Illario!

Illario: I told you. This is Crow business.

Zara: Amatu—

Illario grabs her and snaps her neck (?)

Lucanis (Spite): No! Mine! (Screams in anger)

Lucanis lunges, fighting with himself as he holds a knife to Illario’s throat.

Lucanis: (Groans) Get Illario… out.

Rook: What? No!

Lucanis: Rook, I can’t— (Yells in pain)

Illario: That’s enough!

Illario raises his hand to something, and there’s a glint of red. Lucanis is knocked back and Illario stands over him. Lucanis looks stunned.

Illario: Relent.

Dialogue options:

5 - Affable: Lucanis needs help.

Rook: We can’t wait around for more Venatori. Help me get Lucanis out of here.

Illario: I can’t. That thing controlling him tried to kill me. I’ll get you a boat, but I can’t be near him.

Scene continues. [8]

6 - Sarcastic: This could’ve gone better.

Rook: How did you manage to find every single way to make things worse?

Illario: My cousin would tell you that’s my talent. But this… this was doomed from the start.

Scene continues. [8]

7 - Stoic: You did something.

Rook: What did you do to him?

Illario: Nothing. I don’t know what happened any better than you. You have to get him out of here.

Scene continues. [8]

8 - Scene continues.

Illario: Rook. Keep him away. From Treviso. From the Crows. He’s a danger to the family.

The scene fades to black.

What to Say

Rook finds Lucanis when they’re back at the Lighthouse.

Rook: You’re awake.

Lucanis: Yes. I’ve been trying to figure out what to say to you. And… there aren’t words enough to apologize.

Rook: What? How? He’s not a mage.
