Hey
Rook arrives at the Rivaini Coast to find their Lord of Fortune contact fighting off a pair of antaam. Rook walks up when the fight ends.
Taash: Hey.
Origin dependent dialogue:
Rook: Steel in one hand…
Taash: Gold in the other. Who are you?
Rook: Call me Rook. Lord of Fortune, like you. Taash, right?
Taash: Yeah. You’re with the Lords? Why don’t I know you?
Dialogue options:
- I’ve been away. [1]
+ Taash Approves - Can I prove I’m a Lord? [2]
+ Taash Approves - I had to leave. [3]
+ Taash Approves
1 - I’ve been away.
Rook: I’ve been out on loan for about half a year.
Taash: I’ve only been with the Lords for four months.
Rook: Right. If you want, you can ask Isabela about me after the mission. She’ll have nothing but nice things to say about me, probably.
2 - Can I prove I’m a Lord?
Rook: Test me. Ask away.
Taash: How do you avoid spinning blades in a trapped hallway?
Rook: Spots with bloodstains are bad. Spots with spider webs are good.
Taash: How do you match the weight of an idol on a pressure plate?
Rook: Trick question. Most pressure plates are triggers. Have to disarm the trap first.
Taash: What do you do if you’re hit by darts tipped with soulrot?
Rook: Isabela told me to have a drink and kiss my sweetheart good-bye because I’m dead in ten minutes.
3 - I had to leave.
Rook: I had to make myself scarce after things got dicey.
Taash: It’s the Lords. Things are always dicey.
Rook: Isabela also said she’d kick my ass from here to Antiva if I didn’t leave town for a bit.
4 - Scene continues.
Return to previous tree.Taash: You know Isabela? Okay. Let’s get to work.
Rook: Great. What are we doing?
Taash: The Lords want to hit a cave on the coastal cliffs. Big Vinsomer makes her lair there. We get her out. The Lords get in. We go home and get drunk. Might be more Antaam. Don’t get in my way.
Rook: For gold and glory.
Dialogue options:
- Affable: Taash, I hope? [1]
- Sarcastic: That looks painful. [2]
+ Taash Approves - Stoic: Good to meet you. [3]
1 - Affable: Taash, I hope?
Rook: Hi, I’m Rook. I’m very much hoping you’re Taash…?
Taash: Yeah.
Rook: Nice to meet you.
2 - Sarcastic: That looks painful.
Rook: That looks painful. For them.
Taash: Yep.
Rook: You must be Taash. I’m Rook. Here to help any way I can.
3 - Stoic: Good to meet you.
Rook: Taash?
Taash: Yep.
Rook: Rook. I hear you need help.
4 - Scene continues.
Return to previous tree.Taash: The Lords want to hit a cave on the coastal cliffs. Big Vinsomer makes her lair there. We get her out. The Lords get in. We go home and get drunk. Might be more Antaam. Don’t get in my way.

Rook: I’ve got a good feeling about her. | Rook: She seems nice. | Rook: Let’s move. |
Bait
Rook: So what’s the plan, exactly?
Taash: We need to lure the Vinsomer out of her lair.
Taash: I set bait. She comes out to eat. My partners loot her lair while she’s out here. We’ll find the bait on the beach.
Rook: You said the dragon we’re dealing with was a Vinsomer?
Taash: Yeah. Blue with a yellow belly. Breathes lightning.
- Bellara: Lightning? Shoot. I forgot my lucky boots. If I’d known…
- Davrin: Lightning? Now we’re talking.
- Emmrich: I wish I’d known to prepare for lightning.
- Harding: Oh, one that breathes lightning! I’ve heard stories.
- Lucanis: Would you look at that?
- Neve: Lightning. Well. That’s dramatic.
Taash: We’re not fighting her. Lords just want the hoard in her lair.
They come across some antaam.
Taash: Antaam ahead. Be ready. They go hard.
Antaam: Teth a! Rivaini!
Taash: Watch yourself. They have gaatlok cannons!
Antaam: Taarsaam dar!
Taash: Eat shit! This is not your land!
Taash: Come on! You’re not bigger than me!
They defeat the antaam.
Rook: So you’ve got no problem fighting other Qunari?
Qunari Rook | Non-Qunari Rook |
---|---|
Taash: I’m from Rivain. I don’t follow the Qun. Do you?Rook: Uh, no. But you’ve got the dar-saam—the arm-ropes. | Taash: I’m from Rivain. Not like I follow the Qun.Rook: You’ve got the arm-ropes. |
Taash: Sure. I wear a lot of stuff. You don’t get to tell me who I am. Doesn’t matter anyway. The Antaam don’t follow the Qun either. Not anymore.
- Bellara: So! Why did you want to join up with us, Taash?
Taash: I don’t. - Davrin: Taash, why’d you want to work with us?
Taash: I don’t. - Emmrich: Tell me Taash, what made you want to join us?
Taash: I don’t. - Harding: So what made you want to work with us?
Taash: I don’t. - Lucanis: Why is a dragon hunter interested in our job?
Taash: I’m not. - Neve: The job with us—what made you want to take it?
Taash: I don’t.
Rook: I thought you wanted us here to help you.
Taash: No.
They continue.
Rook: We’re not fighting the dragon?
Taash: No. Vinsomers eat big game. Usually sea life. They’re not hostile unless you do something stupid.
Rook: Like poke around in its lair?
Taash: Right. So we lure her out. Then the Lords go in and grab anything shiny.
Rook: But you do kill dragons, right? You’re a dragon hunter.
Taash: I kill them when they need killing. This one doesn’t.
They travel through some ruins.
Taash: All right. Beach is up ahead.
Rook: Right. You said we’d find bait here?
Taash: Bait’ll find us. Come on.
- Bellara: That sounds… exciting?
- Davrin: The bait will find us?
- Emmrich: How exciting! A chance to observe the fauna of Rivain.
- Harding: How is the bait gonna find us?
- Lucanis: The bait comes to us?
- Neve: I don’t like the sound of that.
The reach the beach, and it’s covered in deepstalkers. They begin to fight.
- Bellara: Deepstalkers!
- Davrin: Look out! Deepstalkers!
- Emmrich: Look there! Deepstalkers.
- Harding: Look! Deepstalkers!
- Lucanis: Look out!
- Neve: Deepstalkers! Watch out!
Taash: Knew they’d find us.
- Bellara: Oh! So the deepstalkers are the bait?
- Davrin: The deepstalkers are the bait?
- Emmrich: We’re using these creatures as bait?
- Harding: The deepstalkers are the bait?
- Lucanis: The creatures are the bait?
- Neve: So the deepstalkers are the bait?
Taash: Yep!
- Bellara: Oh, that’s clever.
- Davrin: Now you’re stealing my tricks.
- Emmrich: I see the Lords of Fortune take no half-measures!
- Harding: Why are you making me feel sorry for them?
- Lucanis: I don’t want to feel sorry for anything that has a worm’s mouth.
- Neve: If that’s what works!
Rook: Quite a few of them!
Taash: Dragons have big stomachs!
A larger one appears and joins the fight.
- Bellara: That one looks bigger than the rest!
- Davrin: Heads up! Bigger one on the way! Could be the alpha!
- Emmrich: Now, there’s a larger specimen!
- Harding: That one’s big! Watch out!
- Lucanis: That one is going to be trouble.
- Neve: Is it just me, or is that one meaner than the rest?
Taash: That’s their pack leader! Take her down!
They defeat the last of them.
Rook: I think that’s the last of them. Now what?
Taash: Now I get the fire going and make our dragon dinner.
Taash sets up a fire.
Taash: Good. She’ll like it. And this potion will put her to sleep for a few hours.
Taash: But we gotta get her attention. Use the horn up there.
Taash: Come on. She’ll be here soon.
Rook: So, we held up our end of the bargain?
Taash: You did okay.
Antaam Plans
They start to head towards the horn Taash mentioned.
Taash: So what do you all do?
Rook: Right now, we’re trying to take down evil god-monsters and their blighted dragons.
Taash: What? That can’t be right. Dragons don’t get blighted. They’re smart enough to avoid that crap!
Rook: However it’s happening, the gods are using the blight to force dragons to attack people.
Taash: That’s messed up. Somebody needs to stop them!
Rook sounds the horn.
(Horn calls loudly)
A dragon flies out over the area.
Taash: There you go. Ataas-kari.
Rook: Where are we headed?
Taash: That old Grey Warden fort. Antaam might be there. I want to see what they’re doing. If it’s anything the Lords of Fortune need to worry about.
They head towards the fortress.
- Bellara: So she responds to the horn?
- Davrin: She responded quickly to the horn.
- Emmrich: The Vinsomer responded quickly to the horn.
- Harding: She responds to the horn?
- Lucanis: That was fast. She answers a horn?
- Neve: She responds to people blowing a horn?
Taash: This time.
- Bellara: So, not the first time you’ve done this?
- Davrin: You’ve fed her before?
- Emmrich: You’ve fed her before?
- Harding: You’ve fed her before, then?
- Lucanis: You’ve done this before.
- Neve: You’ve left food for her before?
Taash: Took a while to get her used to it.
Rook: It sounds like you’ve got her trained.
Taash: You train a dog. You reach an understanding with a dragon.
They continue.
Taash: Vinsomers are clumsy on land. Better in the water. They cut the surface like a knife.
Rook: They swim?
Taash: They dive down after prey like a giant bird. Sometimes they stun schools of fish with their lightning. Gulp them all down in a single bite.
They reach the fortress, and the dragon flies by.
- Bellara: Oh, wow! That dragon got very, very close.
- Davrin: That was close! A lot bigger than a griffon!
- Emmrich: She came rather close!
- Harding: That was close! Maybe too close.
- Lucanis: Maker…
- Neve: Well, that was close!
Taash: Letting us know she sees us. Might also be her way of saying thanks for the food.

Davrin: Some of these buildings look like Grey Warden architecture.Taash: Good eye. Wardens used to have a big outpost here. They left after a volcano erupted. Said it closed some tunnels?Davrin: Makes sense. If a volcano floods the Deep Roads with magma, you don’t need to worry about darkspawn using those tunnels. |
|
Taash: This used to be a big Grey Warden outpost. They left after the darkspawn stopped coming.
They continue though the fort, and come across Antaam materials.
- Bellara: Well, there’s definitely Antaam here.
- Davrin: The Antaam are definitely here.
- Emmrich: I see the Antaam have arrived.
- Harding: Yep. That’s the Antaam.
- Lucanis: The Antaam are definitely here.
- Neve: So the Antaam are here.
Taash: Let’s check inside the fort. I wanna see what they’re doing.
They start to look around, and a bunch of Antaam burst in.
Taash: Shit! More Antaam!
Antaam: Zeshadim shok saam!
Taash: You’re not even supposed to be here!
Antaam: Itwar issala-ari!
Taash: Weak dust people? I’ll show you weak dust people!
They defeat the Antaam.
Taash: Come on. Let’s keep looking.
Rook: So the Antaam took over the outpost after the Grey Wardens abandoned it?
Taash: Yeah. Rivain and the Qunari were at peace forever. Then the Antaam broke away from the Qun and invaded. But Qunari builders are part of a different caste. They didn’t break away. So the Antaam take over old forts like this instead of building their own.
They search the fort, and Rook finds a note.
Antaam Note (Translated from the Qunari language)
Your instructions are unchanged. Use the nets to bring the dragon from the sky and the grapples to tie it down.
Do this and win glory for the Antaam.
Taash: Grapples. Nets. The Antaam are going after the Vinsomer.
- Bellara: Shouldn’t the dragon be okay against the Antaam?
- Davrin: She’s a dragon. She can take care of herself.
- Emmrich: Surely the dragon can defend herself against the Antaam.
- Harding: Is that bad? She can deal with that, right?
- Lucanis: She’s more than a match for the Antaam.
- Neve: But the dragon can handle that.
Taash: Not after I drugged her! Come on!
They make their way out.
Taash: They’ve been watching. They knew I’d drug her to make her sleep. Assholes!
They fight more Antaam on the way.
Adaari
They eventually catch up to the antaam, where they’ve captured the dragon on the beach.
Rook: They haven’t seen us yet. We can ru—
Taash ignores them and jumps down to confront the Antaam.
Taash: Hey! I brought her down! She’s mine by right!
Antaam: Mar-karra.
Antaam: You are no warrior.
Taash: Mar-anaamra ben’ari ebala.
Taash: (Rough Qunlat) You don’t get to tell me who I am.
Taash: Ataash mar-taarost! Asit taarala!
Taash: The dragon doesn’t belong to you! She belongs to me!
Taash: Qun toh!
Taash: The Qun demands it.
Antaam: Qun asit vashedan.
Antaam: The Qun is garbage.
Taash roars, breathing fire and killing some of the Antaam.
Antaam: Adaari. Adaari!
Taash: (Growls) Taarala.
Taash: Mine.
Rook looks at their companion and jumps down.
Rook: Come on!
They fight the Antaam and defeat them.
Rook: So… you breathed fire.
Taash: Yeah.
- Bellara: Amazing! Can all Qunari breathe fire?
Qunari Rook | Non-Qunari Rook |
---|---|
Rook: Well, I can’t.Bellara: Why not? | Rook: Were we supposed to know this? Because I don’t remember you mentioning it. |
-
Davrin: You don’t just hunt dragons. You’re… part dragon?
Rook: Were we supposed to know this? Because I don’t remember you mentioning it. -
Emmrich: That display of fire we just witnessed. You’re not a mage, are you Taash?
Taash: (Snorts) No.
Rook: Did you want to expand on your answer at all? -
Harding: But… how?
Rook: Were we supposed to know this? Because I don’t remember you mentioning it. -
Lucanis: Interesting trick. Alchemy? Magic?
Rook: Were we supposed to know this? Because I don’t remember you mentioning it. -
Neve: Can’t say I was expecting that.
Rook: Were we supposed to know this? Because I don’t remember you mentioning it.
Taash: We can talk later. Let me know when you’re ready. I’ll burn the chains off the dragon.
-
Bellara: Is she going to be grateful we freed her? Do you think she’d give us a ride?
Taash: No. She’s gonna be pissed.
Bellara: Oh. Well, that’s too bad.
Taash: (Sighs) Yeah.
[The actual audio sounds like “yeah, I know.”] -
Davrin: A trapped animal is a scared animal. She’ll be angry once we free her.
Taash: Yep. Be ready to run. Hopefully she won’t chase us. -
Emmrich: We may be freeing her, but I expect the Vinsomer will be agitated after what she’s been through?
Taash: Yup. She’s gonna be pissed. Hopefully she just flies off. -
Harding: Does she know we’re trying to help?
Taash: No. She’s pissed.
Harding: We don’t have to fight her, do we?
Taash: We can run. I don’t think she’ll chase us. -
Lucanis: Dragons are supposed to be smart. Is she going to know we helped her?
Taash: No. She’s gonna be pissed. Might just fly off. Or we might have to run.
Lucanis: Fortunately, as a Crow, I am accustomed to people being unhappy after I pay them a visit. -
Neve: What’ll she think of us when we free her?
Taash: Hopefully she’ll just fly off.
Neve: Hopefully? Should I cross my fingers?
Rook talks to Taash, and the dragon flies off.
The scene fades, and one of Varric’s narratives cuts in.
Varric: As one dragon flew off, now safe to finish its nap uninterrupted… Another was about to wake up. The surviving Antaam poachers carried news of a fire-breathing Qunari back to their leader. Taash and the team would soon find themselves being hunted… by the Dragon King.
Welcome to the Team
Rook sits down with Taash and Isabela.
Isabela: Wonderfully done, Taash. While you played with the big scary dragon, we looted the shiny stuff from her cave.
Origin dependent dialogue:
Isabela: And you managed it despite this former crew member tripping you up the whole time.
Dialogue options:
1 - Affable: Good to see you too.
Rook: I missed you too, Isabela. Isabela: (Laughs) You’re lucky you’re cute.
2 - Sarcastic: You taught me.
Rook: What can I say, Isabela? I learned from the best. Isabela: I did tell Varric not to go easy on you.
3 - Stoic: I didn’t see you help.
Rook: We’re here. The Antaam aren’t. You don’t like it? Go fight the dragon yourself. Isabela: And ruin my hat? Please.
Isabela: So, Rook. Varric’s talked about you. I see he wasn’t making shit up this time. They call me Isabela, among other things.
4 - Scene continues.
Return to previous tree.Taash: What did you find in the cave?
Isabela: A lot of dragon shit, gold, some fancy trinkets… and this.
Dialogue options:
- Is that valuable? [5]
- Is that magical? [6]
- As long as you’re happy. [7]
- Qunari: That’s Qunari art. [8]
5 - Is that valuable?
Rook: How much could you get for something like that?
Isabela: A fair bit of gold, if you’re lucky. Maybe a war, if you’re not.
Another Qunari joins them.
Shathann: But this piece is not for sale. The Lords of Fortune retrieved it at my request.
6 - Is that magical?
Rook: It almost looks like a rune. Does it do anything?
Isabela: Shit. I hope not.
Another Qunari joins them.
Shathann: It conveys knowledge. While not as impressive as a magical explosion, it can still change the world.
7 - As long as you’re happy.
Rook: If it puts a smile on your face, that’s good enough for me.
Isabela: Oh, it does.
Another Qunari joins them.
Shathann: Thank you all for your efforts. This is just as I had hoped.
8 - Qunari: That’s Qunari art.
Rook: That looks like Qunari art… but I’ve never seen anything that old.
Another Qunari joins them.
Shathann: You have a good eye. It is refreshing to see that some younger Qunari can still appreciate the culture that brought them across the sea.
Taash: (Groans)
9 - Scene continues.
Return to previous tree.Isabela: Rook, this is Shathann. She’s our expert on Qunari artifacts.
Shathann: This piece predates the Steel Age by centuries. It comes from an earlier attempt at settlement, one that left no survivors.
There is a pause, and she looks up at Taash.
Shathann: You used your fire.
Taash: What? No.
Shathann: Were you seen by the Antaam? You promised you would be careful, Evataash. You need to be away for a while. It is good you are joining Rook’s team.
Taash: I’m what?
Dialogue options:
- Affable: Taash, we need you. [10]
- Sarcastic: How is this a surprise? [11]
- Stoic: You get to hunt dragons. [12]
10 - Affable: Taash, we need you.
Rook: We’re looking for a good dragon hunter. That would be you.
Taash: Yeah.
11 - Sarcastic: How is this a surprise?
Rook: Wait, were you not aware of this?
12 - Stoic: You get to hunt dragons.
Rook: We expect some dragon trouble. So we need a dragon hunter. You’ll feel right at home.
Taash: Hooray.
13 - Scene continues.
Return to previous tree.Rook: Our contact here said you’d agreed to join us.
Isabela: Didn’t Shathann… I thought you and your mother had agreed on this.
Taash: Nope!
Isabela: Oops. Well, you’ll work it out. You always do. For gold and glory, Taash. You’re welcome back whenever.

Isabela: Rook… wipe your boots next time. | Isabela: Rook, pleasure doing business with you. |
Isabela leaves.
Taash: Mother. What did you do?
Shathann: I thought you would enjoy the chance to work with Rook’s team. Do you not wish to stop these blighted dragons?
Taash: Of course I do. I might have decided to join on my own. Maybe after you talked to me!
Taash stands.
Shathann: I talked to you about not using your fire in front of the Antaam.
There’s a pause.
Shathann: I will prepare potions for you to take. Would you prefer ginger or lavender?
Taash sits back down.
Taash: (Sighs) The ginger.
Shathann: Hassaam vinek.
Shathann: As you wish.
Shathann: Rook… you will keep her safe.
She leaves.
Dialogue options:
14 - Affable: She’s very… caring.
Rook: Well, it must be nice to have your mother so involved in your life.
Taash: (Disgusted noise)
15 - Sarcastic: She ran over you.
Rook: She strong-armed you onto the team just like that, huh?
Taash: Looks like.
16 - Stoic: I like her.
Rook: Your mother doesn’t mince words. I like that.
Taash: Yeah. She’s a lot.
17 - Scene continues.
Return to previous tree.Rook: Anyway, welcome to the team. Might not be what you wanted, but we could really use the help.
Taash: I’ll get my stuff.
Taash stands to walk away, but stops.
Taash: Hey. It is.
Rook: Sorry?
Taash: Joining your team. It is what I wanted.
Rook: Glad to hear it.
