Warden Contacts

After traveling through the eluvians, Rook and Harding walk through some desert canyons in the Anderfels.

Harding: Wardens Evka and Antoine answered our letter. They’re willing to talk.

Rook: In the middle of nowhere?

Harding: Where the First Warden won’t notice. But if they don’t listen…

(Explosion)

Rook and Harding rush ahead to the source of the explosion, where there is a dead darkspawn and a pair of Wardens standing over it.

Evka: Ah. Your distraction worked. Could have set it when we were farther away.

Antoine: Désolé. I didn’t say it was a good plan.

Rook and Harding approach.

Antoine: Ah! You made it!

Origin dependent dialogue:

Rook: Antoine. Evka. It’s been a while.

Antoine: Yes! And Harding, it’s good to see you again.

Evka: I hear you’ve been causing problems.

Dialogue options:

1 - Affable: That won’t bother you.

Rook: And you two haven’t?

Evka: We don’t make problems.

Antoine: We just fall into them.

Evka: What’s the latest?

Scene continues. [5]

2 - Sarcastic: The First Warden exaggerates.

Rook: I’m trying to stop it. Not my fault the First Warden has a stick up his—

Evka: And you wonder why he doesn’t like you.

Antoine: He barely likes us. What’s going on?

Scene continues. [5]

3 - Stoic: I’ve been solving them.

Rook: More like solving them. Rubs people the wrong way.

Evka: So what’s the latest?

Scene continues. [5]

4 - Sad: And I need your help.

Rook: Solas, the ritual… ever since I left, it’s all gone wrong.

Antoine: Then we’ll fix it.

Rook: Or die trying?

Evka: That’s the deal. What happened?

Scene continues. [5]

5 - Scene continues.
Return to previous tree.

Rook: It’s the elven gods. They’re real and they’re changing the blight. Darkspawn too. You must’ve heard of D’Meta’s Crossing. The blight there was unlike anything I’ve seen. And it hit too fast. Whatever comes next, it’s bad.

Antoine: A change? Manipulation could explain it. We’ve been looking into oddities with the blight ourselves and… it’s altered. I can feel it.

Rook: Then you believe me?

Evka: You’re a lot of things, Rook—and a good Warden’s one of them. You wouldn’t lie about this.

Dialogue options:

6 - Affable: That means a lot.

Rook: Thanks, I… just thanks.

Antoine: We’re with you. Now, let’s see what we can do.

Scene continues. [9]

7 - Sarcastic: You two are my favorites.

Rook: I’d lie about a lot of other things, but… thanks. You’re the best.

Evka: (Chuckles) You’ve got our help. No need to suck up.

Antoine: I’ll take the compliment.

Harding: So what now?

Scene continues. [9]

8 - Stoic: Then what’s next?

Rook: All right. Good. So what do we do?

Antoine: We make a plan.

Scene continues. [9]

9 - Scene continues.
Return to previous tree.

Evka: If the blight’s changed, we need our Order. The First Warden likes us more than you, but that’s not saying much.

Antoine: If he thinks what happened to that village was an aberration… A further hunch from Evka and myself won’t win him over.

Rook: We need more proof.

Evka: If the darkspawn are changing, Davrin might help. Even among Wardens he’s known as a monster hunter. He got pulled on a mission. Not sure what, but it’s farther into the mountains. We can get you a rough location.

Antoine: I married someone with good advice. You find Davrin, and we’ll keep after the blight.

Dialogue options:

10 - Affable: Sounds like a plan.

Rook: Got it. Stay safe.

Antoine: You too.

Evka: We’ll see you soon.

+ Harding Approves
Scene ends.

11 - Sarcastic: This is great!

Rook: Three Wardens. It’s more than we had yesterday.

Antoine: The best three for chasing the unusual. And soon four if you find Davrin.

Evka: Let’s make it happen. We’ll see you soon.

+ Harding Approves
Scene ends.

12 - Stoic: No time to waste.

Rook: Then let’s get moving. Nothing gets better while we stand here.

Antoine: (Laughs) Then let’s make things better.

Evka: We’ll send word if we find something.

+ Harding Approves
Scene ends.

Return to origin choice.

Monster Hunter

Rook finds an abandoned camp covered in blood and blight.

Rook: Well, I’d say we found the camp.

They walk around.

Rook: So did some darkspawn, looks like.

  • Bellara: Fire’s still going.
  • Harding: The fire’s still going.
  • Lucanis: They left the fire burning.
  • Neve: The fire’s still going.

Rook: Were they ambushed?

(Distant noise)

Rook steps around their companion.

(Chittering)

Rook continues to look around

(Low breathing)

Some rocks fall nearby.

(Attack scream)

A griffon flies down, squawking and trying to attack Rook.

Rook: (Startled noise)

Griffon: (Aggressive growling)

Someone clinbs up some rocks nearby, coming into view.

Davrin: Assan…

Assan: (Frustrated squawk)

Davrin: Easy, boy.

Assan: (Deferential squawk)

Davrin joins them, and Assan runs to his side.

Dialogue options:

1 - Affable: A griffon!

Rook: I’ll be damned… a griffon.

Assan: (Squawk!)

Davrin: Trouble is, he’s not sure what you are. Neither am I.

Scene continues. [4]

2 - Stoic: Stay!

Rook: Stay right there.

Assan: (Squawk)

Davrin: He will, so long as you don’t give him a reason not to. Who are you?

Scene continues. [4]

3 - Afraid: Don’t eat me.

Rook: Hey, there… no need to bite.

Assan: (Squawk)

Davrin: He’s young. Still trying to work out what he likes to eat. Who are you?

Scene continues. [4]

4 - Scene continues.
Return to previous tree.

Rook: Rook. Evka and Antoine sent us. We’re looking for Davrin.

Davrin: You found him. Mind telling me why you smell like darkspawn? Griffons hunt darkspawn.

Dialogue options:

5 - Affable: We’re trying to help.

Rook: You’ve got bigger problems than us. We found blight on the tent.

Davrin: What?

Scene continues. [9]

6 - Sarcastic: It’s not us.

Rook: We don’t smell that bad. It’s the tent.

Davrin: Blight?

Scene continues. [9]

7 - Stoic: You’re being hunted.

Rook: Maybe they’re hunting you. There’s blight on the tent.

Davrin: What?

Scene continues. [9]

8 - Grey Warden: I’m a Grey Warden.

Rook: Easy… I’m a Warden, too. We found blight on the tent. You’ve had company.

Scene continues. [9]

9 - Scene continues.
Return to previous tree.

Davrin: Where are Lancit and Remi?

Rook: The camp was empty when we got here.

Darkspawn: (Shrieks)

Davrin: Assan—to the trees!

Assan bolts.

Rook: We can help.

Grey Warden RookNon-Grey Warden Rook
Davrin: Another Warden couldn’t hurt. Try to keep up!Davrin: Try to keep up!

Davrin: He’s caught a scent. Follow the squawks.

Grey Warden RookNon-Grey Warden Rook
Rook: Since when do we have a griffon? Aren’t they extinct?

Davrin: Been keeping it quiet. Even from other Wardens.
Rook: I thought griffons were extinct?

Davrin: We want the world to think that.

Davrin: It’s why we’re training in the middle of nowhere.

Davrin: Assan, don’t get too far ahead!

Assan: (Squawk)

  • Bellara: That felt like a “No”?
  • Harding: That kind of sounded like a “No.”
  • Lucanis: Doesn’t sound like he agrees.
  • Neve: Take that as a “No”?

Davrin: If he even listens. Has a mind of his own.

Assan: (Squawk)

Davrin: He’s spotted something.

  • Bellara: Those are… definitely darkspawn.
  • Harding: Darkspawn.
  • Lucanis: Over there!
  • Neve: Those are darkspawn.

Rook runs up to find come corpses.

Davrin: Dead darkspawn. These were part of the training.

Rook: Assan was half-right.

Davrin: There’s no time for half-wrong.

Davrin: Assan! We’re looking for live darkspawn!

Assan: (Squawk)

Rook: He understands?

Davrin: Not sure he understands anything but dinner. Keep on it, Assan! They’re around here somewhere!

Assan: (Squawk)

They find a ledge that seems to high to climb.

Rook: How do we get up that?

Davrin: The griffons have been training for this sort of thing. Let’s see if Assan was paying attention. Assan, hit that!

Assan knocks down a stack of wood that Rook can climb.

  • Bellara: Wow. You teach him that?
  • Harding: That’s impressive. You teach him that?
  • Lucanis: A useful trick. Did you teach him?
  • Neve: Impressive. Did you teach him that?

Davrin: No, Lancit and Remi did. They’re the griffon whisperers.

Rook: So you’re the bodyguard.

Davrin: Griffons are the Warden’s greatest legacy. Someone has to protect them.

The come across another ruined area.

Davrin: Hold up. There’s the darkspawn.

They start to fight.

Davrin: Let’s get in there!

  • Bellara: You know, I hate fighting these things.
  • Harding: I hate fighting darkspawn. Something in me just recoils from them.
  • Lucanis: I hate these things. Everything about them is wrong.
  • Neve: I hate fighting darkspawn. Before this gig, I could avoid them.

Davrin: That’s why it’s a job for professionals.

Missing

They defeat the darkspawn, and Davrin runs up to someone lying near a doorway.

Davrin: Remi! Where are you?

Remi: (Coughs weakly)

Rook: Remi, where are you hurt?

Remi: (Coughs) Everywhere. The monster came out of nowhere. Darkspawn were following it. Lancit ran ahead…

Davrin: It’s back?

Assan: (Squawk)

Remi: Davrin, remember: a light touch. Assan’s still learning.

Davrin: You’re the trainer.

Remi: Not anymore… (Dying cough)

Davrin: (Heavy sigh) We have to keep going. Let’s get through here. Those two statues are the spare key. Line up the symbols.

Rook: What did you mean by “It’s back”?

Davrin: Something’s stalking Grey Wardens. We call it the “Gloom Howler”. I’m hunting it. Started happening seven, eight months ago. Darkspawn obey it. Has some kind of hold over them.

Rook gets the doors open.

Davrin: Assan, on me!

Assan: (Loud squawk)

Davrin: No time for hide-and-seek, Assan. This is real.

Assan: (Irritated squawk)

Rook: “Assan”. That’s elven for “arrow”.Bellara: “Assan”. That’s elven for “arrow”.
  • Harding: “Assan”. Is that elven?
  • Lucanis: “Assan”. Does it mean something?
  • Neve: How’d he get his name?

Davrin: It’s elven for “arrow”.

Davrin: Hope he grows into it.

They continue up the path.

Rook: More darkspawn here.

Davrin: Lancit’s trying to stop the Gloom Howler. It’s going after the other griffons.

  • Bellara: Wait, other griffons?
  • Harding: There’s other griffons?
  • Lucanis: More griffons?
  • Neve: More? You’re serious?

Davrin: Whole family. Assan’s brothers and sisters.

Rook looks around and finds a next full of nug carvings.

Rook: What’s all this?

Davrin: I wondered what happened to them. They’re mine. I like to carve.

Rook: How’d they end up here?

Davrin: The griffons. They take things to make a nest. Or play pranks. I don’t know.

The reach a collapsed bridge.

Rook: The bridge is out.

Davrin: This place is falling apart. There’s a ladder up there. That’s our way through this.

Assan knocks the ladder down.

Davrin: Good job!

Assan: (Satisfied squawk)

A darkspawn javelin whirrs by.

  • Bellara: Watch it, Rook! Darkspawn!
  • Harding: Watch out, Rook! Darkspawn!
  • Lucanis: Rook, you’ve got darkspawn!
  • Neve: Watch yourself! There’s darkspawn!

Davrin: Make this quick! We have to get through here. Assan can help with the fight!

They fight, and a giant darkspawn appears.

  • Bellara: Oh, that one’s big! Watch out!
  • Harding: Watch out: one more to go! Big one!
  • Lucanis: Watch it: there’s a big one!
  • Neve: Careful! They saved the big one for last!

Davrin: I see it!

The defeat the last of the darkspawn.

Gloom Howler: (Shrieking howl)

  • Bellara: Um. That sounds bad?
  • Harding: What was that?
  • Lucanis: That cannot be good.
  • Neve: Well, that sounds cheery!

Davrin: It’s coming from the aerie. There’s an elevator we can use to get up there.

Rook loots the area.

Davrin: The elevator’s behind that blight. Let’s get through it.

They get through to the elevator.

Davrin: I’ve never seen darkspawn this bold. Not unless there’s a Blight.

Rook: There’s a Blight.

Grey Warden RookNon-Grey Warden Rook
Davrin: Would explain the weird things I’m hearing. But the First Warden hasn’t said anything.

Rook: He doesn’t want to listen.
Davrin: The Wardens told you this?

Rook: I told them, but your First Warden doesn’t want our help.

Davrin: He’s a stubborn one.

  • Bellara: So why does the Gloom Howler want griffons, anyway?
  • Harding: Why does the Gloom Howler want the griffons?
  • Lucanis: What does this darkspawn want with griffons?
  • Neve: The Gloom Howler wants the griffons. Why?

Davrin: The real question’s how it knows about them. Up until now, it only went after Wardens. Now it shows up here with a rabble of darkspawn? These griffons are a secret.

They head up the elevator and continue on. Rook takes a zipline, and Assan flies beside them.

Assan: (Excited squawk)

Rook: Hi?

Assan: (Excited squawk)

They fight through more darkspawn after landing.

Davrin: Keep moving. The aerie’s not far!

They defeat the darkspawn.

Davrin: That was the last one.

  • Bellara: Is… that a body? Under the blight boil.
  • Harding: There’s a body over there, under the blight boil.
  • Lucanis: Over there. A body. Under the blight boil.
  • Neve: That’s a body. Over there. Under the blight boil.

Davrin: We better take a look.

Rook destroys the boil.

Davrin: Damn it, it’s Lancit. I want this thing’s head on a pike!

The Gloom Howler

The party continues up the stairs, where they finally catch a glimpse of the Gloom Howler.

Rook: What is *that?

Davrin: Meet the Gloom Howler.

Gloom Howler: (Guttural, inhuman jabbering)

They begin to fight their way through the darkspawn.

Davrin: Exploding darkspawn? What is this?

Rook: Like I said—this Blight’s different. Everything’s wrong!

They defeat the new darkspawn, and they hear griffons screeching in the distance.

Davrin: I can hear the other griffons! Let’s get in there!

They find a bunch of griffons in cages.

Bellara/Harding/Lucanis/Neve: More griffons!

Rook: We have to get them out of there.

Davrin: Can’t. Some kind of blood magic on these locks. It’s okay, Heidas, calm down. You, too, Rumptail. We’ll come back for both of you.

They continues through the maze of cages.

Gloom Howler: (Harsh, inhuman jabbering)

More darkspawn attack.

Davrin: Heads up! We’ve got one more darkspawn! Mean looking!

An ogre attacks, and the party defeats it.

Gloom Howler: (Wailing shriek)

Davrin: Yell all you want! You’re not taking these griffons!

Rook investigates some of the cages.

  • Davrin: It’s okay, Thunder! You’ll be okay!
  • Davrin: Don’t worry, Beaktooth, we’ll get you out!
  • Davrin: Stormwing, I’ll be back for you!

Rook destroys the nearby blight, revealing a path up the ledge.

Davrin: They’re up there!

Rook climbs the ledge, where they find a disfigured creature standing before the caged griffons.

Gloom Howler: Their blood is mine.

Rook: So it can talk.

Davrin: I’ll spill mine before that happens!

Gloom Howler: And I’ll collect, Warden. On both of you.

The Gloom Howler summons some kind of storm, and it vanishes into the clouds along with the griffons. Davrin charges, but they’re gone by the time he swings his sword.

Davrin: No!

Gloom Howler: Mortal threats are a dull blade!

Davrin: (Frustrated, angry yell)

A feather falls, and he catches it as he turns back to Rook.

Assan: (Sad squawk)

Davrin: There are only thirteen griffons alive in Thedas. That monster just took twelve of them.

Rook: What if we could help get them back?

Davrin: I’d ask, “What’s the catch?”

Rook: I need a monster hunter. For the Blight to end all Blights.

Davrin: The First Warden agreed to this?

Dialogue options:

5 - The First Warden is wrong.

Rook: The First Warden is wasting time, treating this like any other Blight. We can’t wait for him to take action.

Grey Warden RookNon-Grey Warden Rook

Rook: I don’t need permission to save the world.

Grey Warden RookNon-Grey Warden Rook
Davrin: Pretty sure your oath to the Wardens says otherwise.

Davrin: (Amused laugh) You got nerve, I’ll give you that.
Davrin: I do. Usually.

Rook: These are unusual times.

Davrin: He’s hoping you brought food.

Davrin: All right. Come on, Assan. Let’s get to know our new friends.

They leave.

Decisions

Rook and Davrin return to the Crossroads and head back towards the Lighthouse eluvian.

Davrin: So this is where you live, huh? In the Fade?

Rook: Yeah. It’s cozy. And the gods can’t find us here.

Davrin: Right. Never going to get used to that.

Rook: We’ll find you and Assan a nice—

Neve, Harding, and Bellara run up to them.

Rook: What’s wrong?

Neve: A lot. The Viper just sent word. Minrathous is under attack by a blighted dragon.

Rook: Has to be the one we saw at D’Meta’s Crossing.

Harding: Well, one of them has to be.

Lucanis joins them.

Lucanis: What do you mean, “one of them”?

Harding: Teia also got in touch. Another dragon is attacking Treviso, too.

Lucanis: Mierda.

Lucanis: Rook!

Harding, and Bellara, and Lucanis run up to them.

Rook: What’s wrong?

Lucanis: It’s bad, Rook. Teia sent word. Treviso’s under attack by a blighted dragon.

Rook: Damn it. The one we saw at D’Meta’s Crossing.

Neve joins them.

Neve: It has to be.

Harding: Neve, I’m—

Neve: What is it?

Harding: We heard from the Viper right after the Crows. Another dragon is attacking Minrathous, too.

Neve: It’s… no.
Neve: Rook!

Neve, Harding, and Bellara, and Lucanis run up to them.

Rook: What’s wrong?

Lucanis: Everything’s wrong. Treviso and Minrathous are both under attack.

Neve: Blighted dragons. Two of them. One for each city.

Rook: Damn it. So the dragon at D’Meta’s Crossing wasn’t the only one.

Harding: You got back just in time.

Rook: All right. What do we know?

Harding: Two dragons at once? Has to be the gods behind it.

Scene continues. [4]

3 - What about the gods?

Rook: Any sign of the gods? Two dragons at once can’t be a coincidence.

Harding: If it is, the Shadow Dragons and the Crows didn’t say anything about it.

Lucanis: Last time you saw the dragon, the gods were nearby, no? They’ll be lurking somewhere.
