Spoken Like a God

Rook: Blighted dragons, darkspawn obeying the Venatori… maybe Solas will know something.

Rook gets back to the Lighthouse and goes to the meditation room to speak with Solas.

(Dialogue varies based on choices in the previous conversation with Solas)

Thanked Solas for his informationTook Solas’s advice on picking fightsTold Solas his information wasn’t enough
Solas: When last we spoke, you intended to assault “the cruel and the corrupt” in hopes of finding servants of Elgar’nan and Ghilan’nain.Solas: When last we spoke, you were considering my “suggestion” to locate new servants of Elgar’nan and Ghilan’nain.Solas: When last we spoke, you were hunting for followers of Elgar’nan and Ghilan’nain in hopes of finding “specifics.”

Solas: Has your search been successful?

Rook: You could say that. It looks like both the Venatori and the Antaam are working for Elgar’nan and Ghilan’nain.

Solas: Unsurprising. The Venatori want magical secrets, and the Antaam want to destroy anyone opposing their brutal expansion. Both will readily bow to anyone who promises them power.

Dialogue options:
  • Affable: They’re hurting people.
Rook: And they’re using that power to hurt a lot of people.

  • Sarcastic: It’s not just a promise.
Rook: It’s more than a promise this time.

  • Stoic: It’s working.
Rook: And now we’ve seen that power firsthand.

Rook: The Antaam and the Venatori both have dragons doing their bidding.

Solas: Dragons? That is worse than I had feared.

Saved MinrathousSaved Treviso
Rook: Yeah. We drove off the one the Venatori brought into Minrathous—barely.Rook: Yeah. We drove off the one the Antaam brought to Treviso—barely.

Solas: Have you determined how the dragons are being directed? If it is blood magic, it may be possible to disrupt their control.

Rook: The dragons were blighted. We think that’s what let the gods control them.

Solas: The blight. Of course.

Rook: The blight seems to be the gods’ favored tool right now. We ran into Venatori who could control darkspawn.

Solas: Elgar’nan would not bestow such power unless the darkspawn were to serve as the main force of his army. And I suspect Ghilan’nain will see the darkspawn as new subjects for her… modifications.

Rook: We’ve already run into a few darkspawn nobody has seen before. That’s in addition to the blighted dragons.

Solas: That is the fate Elgar’nan and Ghilan’nain plan for this world, then. Corruption and blighted slavery.

Dialogue options:
  • Sarcastic: Instead of by your demons?
Rook: Right. Everyone should be free and uncorrupted when your demons and raw magic kill them.

  • Stoic: You’re no better.
Rook: That’s rich coming from the guy who wanted to drown the world in demons.

  • Angry: Knock that shit off!
Rook: Stop acting like you’re so much better than they are! Your bullshit ritual would have destroyed the world just as badly.

Solas: Do you truly believe my goal was to destroy this world?

Rook: I believe your goal, like you said, was to transfer the gods to a better prison—the one you’re stuck in now. And you were willing to tear down the Veil and destroy this world while you did so.

Solas: The Veil is a wound I cut into the Fade in a moment of desperation while making their prison. It should not exist. I had a host of spirits ready to help when the Veil fell. They would have minimized the loss of life.

Dialogue options:

1 - Affable: We didn’t know.

Rook: We thought you were just bringing the Veil down to destroy everything. If we’d known…

Solas: Thousands would still have perished. Varric would never have agreed to such a plan.

Rook: Why would you agree to it?

Solas: The world is broken because of my past choices. It falls to me to heal it… even if that healing comes with a cost.

Scene continues. [5]

2 - Sarcastic: Minimized? Really?

Rook: So, best guess, how many deaths? Hundreds? Thousands?

Solas: At least. Those deaths would have been on my conscience, but the world would once again be as it should be.

Rook: Oh, and here I was worried.

Solas: Many would have died, I know. But afterward, flowers would grow again.

Scene continues. [5]

3 - Stoic: That was a bad idea.

Rook: Not good enough.

Solas: There was no better option.

Rook: Not killing thousands of people. There’s your better option.

Solas: Many would have died, I know. But afterward, flowers would grow again.

Scene continues. [5]

4 - Angry: Listen to yourself!

Rook: Do you have any idea what you sound like? You could have actually saved the world from the blight, but instead you chose to kill thousands of people with your vanity project!

Solas: It is not vanity! I broke this world. I am the only one who can fix it.

Scene continues. [5]

5 - Scene continues.
Return to previous tree.

Rook: Spoken like a god.

Solas: I am not a god! I am as I have always been: a man, all too aware of his failings… But equally aware that if he did not act, accepting the judgment it would bring, all would be lost. They called me the Dread Wolf. What will they call you, when this is over?

Dialogue options:

6 - I’ll worry about that later.

Rook: I’ve got enough problems right now as it is. That’s one for Future Rook to deal with.

Solas: Pragmatism. You will focus on the present, knowing that someday you will face the consequences of your choices.

Scene continues. [9]

7 - Whatever they want.

Rook: I don’t care what they call me. If they’re calling me anything, it means they’re still alive. That’s all that matters.

Solas: Acceptance. You are willing to face the consequences your actions may one day bring, because the world needs you.

Scene continues. [9]

8 - It won’t be that bad.

Rook: I’m going to stop the gods my way, without getting thousands of innocent people killed.

Solas: Confidence. The certainty that you can do better.

Scene continues. [9]

9 - Scene continues.
Return to previous tree.

Solas: I believe I can work with that. If the gods are using dragons, you will wish to find someone trained to fight them. Have you unlocked the Lighthouse eluvian?

Rook: Yes. We found the Crossroads. It’s still confusing, though.

Solas: I cannot help you from in here. You may need to find an expert in the magic of the Fade. And if the darkspawn are to be Elgar’nan’s army, you will need Grey Wardens to fight them.

Grey Warden RookNon-Grey Warden Rook
Rook: I’ve got a few of them, and I’m a Warden myself. Maybe that’s enough?

Solas: Doubtful. You will want an army… and I believe you will find a way to obtain one.
Rook: I’ve got a few of them. Their leaders don’t trust me right now, though.

Solas: I have faith in you, Rook.

Solas: You seem to have a knack for gaining the cooperation of your adversaries.

What the Team Needs Next

The team meets around the fireplace in the kitchen.

Choice dependent dialogue:

Neve: Solas thinks we need a dragon hunter and a Fade expert.

Took Bellara/Davrin to Minrathous (?)Took Harding to Minrathous (?)
Harding: He’s right about the dragon hunter, at least. Rook, when I was with the Inquisition, I saw some terrible things. But what happened to Treviso… I mean… So much death. Lucanis stayed behind. He said he’ll be back soon, but… At least you took care of yours.Davrin: I wouldn’t trust the Dread Wolf, but he’s not wrong about us needing a dragon hunter. I’ve been a Warden for a while. Seen some pretty awful things. But what the dragon did to Treviso? I’ll never get that out of my head. Lucanis stayed. Said he’d be back soon, but… At least you took care of yours.

Rook: We hurt it, but didn’t kill it. The dragon flew off before we could put it down.

Neve: A dragon hunter would’ve helped in Minrathous, that’s for sure.

Dialogue options:
  • Affable: We couldn’t have known.
Rook: That’s hindsight talking. We didn’t know a blighted dragon was coming, or that we’d need someone who could take it down.
    + Harding Approves

  • Stoic: We’ll be ready next time.
Rook: Then we find one. Next time a blighted dragon comes calling, it’ll be the last time it comes calling.
    + Davrin Approves

  • Sad: Yes, I know.
Rook: Don’t remind me. Fewer people injured, and we wouldn’t have to worry about it coming back.
    + Bellara Approves

Neve: We can’t forget the second dragon in Treviso. We should see how we can help, but… We’re without Lucanis until he’s done helping the Crows. Who knows how long.

Varric walks up.

Varric: Hey, let’s not get stuck in our regrets, all right?

Davrin: Just so we’re clear, you’re taking advice from this elven god, Solas. The Solas who tried to tear down the Veil. You really trust him?

Return to choice selection.

Dialogue options:

1 - Affable: He hasn’t led us astray.

Rook: He’s been right about a lot of things. He knows how Elgar’nan and Ghilan’nain work. We need him.

Davrin: As long as you’re sure.

Scene continues. [4]

2 - Sarcastic: Trust is a strong word.

Rook: Trust is such a strong word, you know?

Davrin: So you don’t trust him.

Rook: Enhhh…

Davrin: All right then.

Scene continues. [4]

3 - Stoic: Absolutely not.

Rook: Of course I don’t trust him. He’s the only option we have. If it makes you feel better, we’ve checked every piece of information he gave us.

Davrin: That does make me feel better.

Scene continues. [4]

4 - Scene continues.
Return to previous tree.

Harding: So a Fade expert and a dragon hunter… I’ll ask around about dragon hunters and see what turns up. Come talk to me in a bit.

Bellara: And I’ve been corresponding with someone about the Lighthouse’s reverberative oscillations and the resulting dimensional peculiarities—Oh… sorry. Not relevant. I’ll get a message through to a Fade expert immediately.

Varric: (Chuckles) See, Rook? Nothing to worry about.

Rook: All right. We all know what to do. Let’s get going.

+ Bellara Approves
+ Harding Approves
+ Lucanis/Neve Approves (depending on who is present)

[I have a feeling that the Harding/Davrin dialogues are bugged and swapped.]

A Dragon Hunter

Rook finds Harding in her room.

Harding: So I put the word out for dragon hunters, and I’ve heard back about someone who might work.

Lord of Fortune RookNon-Lord of Fortune Rook
Harding: It’s a woman named Taash from your old treasure-hunter group, the Lords of Fortune.

Rook: I don’t know her. She must’ve joined after I left.
Harding: It’s a woman named Taash from a group of Rivaini treasure hunters called the Lords of Fortune.

Rook: Sounds promising.

Harding: An agent for the Lords said that Taash is working on a mission for them along the Rivain coast. If we help her, she’ll be free to join us and fight any blighted dragons the gods throw our way.

Dialogue options:

1 - Investigate: What’s happening in Rivain?

Rook: What do you know about what’s going on in Rivain right now?

Harding: Not much more than you do. Varric and I never went there while hunting Solas. The Qunari were on pretty good terms with Rivain, but that was before the Antaam military broke away from the rest of the Qun. I wouldn’t be surprised if the Antaam invaded Rivain like they did Treviso and eastern Tevinter.

Lord of Fortune RookNon-Lord of Fortune Rook
Rook: They were attacking Rivain when Varric recruited me from the Lords of Fortune.Rook: All right. Guess we’ll be ready.

Return to dialogue tree.

2 - Affable: I appreciate the help.

Rook: Thanks for finding a contact. There can’t be that many professional dragon hunters around.

Harding: Time to find out if the Crossroads can get us to an eluvian in that area.

Scene continues. [6]

3 - Sarcastic: I’ll take it.

Rook: I hope someone can. We don’t want to fight another dragon without help.

Harding: Time to find out if the Crossroads can get us to an eluvian in that area.

Scene continues. [6]

4 - Stoic: Works for me.

Rook: Well, we need the support. Guess we’re headed to Rivain.

Harding: Time to find out if the Crossroads can get us to an eluvian in that area.

Scene continues. [6]

5 - Lord of Fortune: I’d like to see the Lords.

Rook: I’ve been away from the Lords of Fortune for a while. It’ll be good to see Isabela and Rowan again.

Harding: Let’s hope the Crossroads can get us to an eluvian in the right part of Rivain.

Scene continues. [6]

6 - Scene continues.
Return to previous tree.

Harding: We’ll head out whenever you’re ready.

A Fade Expert

Rook goes to find Bellara.

Rook: Okay Bellara, what’s your lead on getting us a Fade expert… for… the team.

Rook finds a woman and some kind of specter in Bellara’s room.

Myrna: Good evening.

Vorgoth: GREETINGS.

Origin specific dialogue:

Rook: Myrna! Vorgoth! What’s more of the Mourn Watch doing here?

Bellara: I’ve been writing to a senior Fade expert. Turns out he’s a Watcher like you, but I needed help tracking him down.

Vorgoth: THUS, WE CAME.

Myrna: You’ve done well since we last met at the Necropolis, Rook. Back straight.

Rook: You wouldn’t believe what I’ve seen since I left the Watchers.

Myrna: No one truly leaves the Watchers.

Dialogue options:

1 - I didn’t have a choice.

Rook: I recall I was encouraged to travel for a time.

Myrna: It’s brushed the dust from your bones.

Scene continues. [4]

2 - I have a new life.

Rook: There’s a bustling world outside the Necropolis.

Myrna: Its gates are always a step away.

Rook: See, that’s exactly what people outside Nevarra don’t constantly say.

Scene continues. [4]

3 - I haven’t, really.

Rook: “A home in life, a berth in death.”

Myrna: “A house of many mansions.”

Scene continues. [4]

4 - Scene continues.
Return to previous tree.

Rook: So Bellara’s been in touch with one of our own necromancers?

Myrna: Yes. Do you know Professor Emmrich Volkarin?

Rook: I’ve heard of him around the Necropolis. Never met.

Myrna: The professor specializes in the Fade and spirits. A truly powerful psychagogue. He’s currently investigating a disturbance in the Shrouded Halls. Seek him there.

Dialogue options:

4 - Affable: I appreciate the information.

Rook: Thank you for the lead.

Myrna: You’re most welcome.

Scene continues. [7]

5 - Sarcastic: The Shrouded Halls are… far.

Rook: Out of curiosity, are the Necropolis lifts working? It’s just, if the professor doesn’t want to climb all those stairs—

Myrna: The lifts are in order.

Rook: Oh, thank goodness.

Scene continues. [7]

6 - Afraid: Aren’t the Halls a death trap?

Rook: The place we were forbidden to enter as novices? Those Shrouded Halls?

Myrna: You’re long past being a novice.

Scene continues. [7]

7 - Scene continues.
Return to previous tree.

Vorgoth: ROOK. PREPARE WELL.

Myrna: Agreed. The Shrouded Halls have lately been… restless.

Return to origin choice.
