Talk to Solas
Rook sits in the meditation room.
Solas: The fall of Weisshaupt reverberated across the Fade, as did the fall of an Archdemon. But unless I am mistaken, both Elgar’nan and Ghilan’nain yet stand.
Rook: We took down Ghilan’nain’s Archdemon, but we weren’t able to kill her.
Solas: And how are you doing?
Dialogue options:
- Affable: I’m worried about the team. [1]
- Stoic: I’m fine. Let’s move on. [2]
- Sad: I’m hurting. [3]
- Afraid: I’m shaken. [4]
- Angry: I’m furious. [5]
1 - Affable: I’m worried about the team.
Rook: Right now, I’m more concerned with how the team is doing.
Solas: I expect their morale is shaken after what happened.
2 - Stoic: I’m fine. Let’s move on.
Rook: I came to you to figure out our next steps. I don’t need a shoulder to cry on.
Solas: Of course. As a leader, you are wise to put away concerns and show only confidence to your team… (Chuckles) And your adversaries. At least you still have Varric to talk to. What of your companions? How have they handled the events at Weisshaupt?
3 - Sad: I’m hurting.
Rook: Honestly, what happened at Weisshaupt hit me hard.

It just keeps coming.
Rook: It adds up. D’Meta’s Crossing. The attacks on Minrathous and Treviso. Every time, it’s been worse. More terrible magic, more good people killed. And it’s only going to get worse until I find a way to stop them. -
I couldn’t see a way to win.

Rook: But at Weisshaupt, we got there in time. The Archdemon was down. I had a dragon hunter, a mage-killing assassin, and the Grey Wardens. And even then, we couldn’t kill Ghilan’nain.
- I was in command.
Rook: This time I was in charge. The Grey Wardens listened to my plan. My team followed orders. Everyone was depending on me. But we couldn’t kill Ghilan’nain. Weisshaupt fell because I failed.
Solas: Rook, I led a rebellion against Elgar’nan for a hundred of your lifetimes. I have been where you now stand. Do you know how many times I had to order my rebels to retreat when we were outmatched in raw power? You rendered Ghilan’nain mortal and escaped with your lives. The sting of wishing you had done more will push you to improve, but Weisshaupt was a victory. And your team will see your passion, even if you must conceal the extent of your own pain. How are your companions, after what happened?
4 - Afraid: I’m shaken.
Rook: Honestly, Weisshaupt shook me.

6 - Scene continues.
Return to previous tree.Dialogue options:
7 - They’re arguing.
Rook: They’ve spent a lot of time yelling at each other… or me.
Solas: Not the worst outcome, all things considered. Properly focused, that anger can forge your team into a weapon keen enough to cut through any obstacle.
8 - They’re scared.
Rook: What happened at Weisshaupt left a lot of them rattled.
Solas: That is to be expected. They faced Ghilan’nain in the flesh. Properly focused, their fear will spur them to fight harder, to be ready next time.
9 - I know they can do this.
Rook: They have what it takes to stop the gods. I just need to need to get them to believe it.
Solas: Indeed. They must know beyond any doubt that you believe in them.
10 - Scene continues.
Return to previous tree.Solas: You cannot stand against Elgar’nan and Ghilan’nain with logic. Those motivated by greed or self-interest will change alliances. But those who serve you with passion and loyalty will follow wherever you lead… Even to their deaths, if necessary.
Dialogue options:
11 - I can’t give that order.
Rook: I won’t order anyone to their death.
Solas: If you gain their loyalty, you will not need to order them. They will volunteer.
Rook: Solas, no.
Solas: A cause like yours is larger than any one person. It is even larger than your own wishes. Your team will not thank you for sparing them if the world falls to the blight. But perhaps it will not come to that. For now, you have a team to rebuild.
12 - It wont come to that.
Rook: I’m not planning to order anyone to their deaths.
Solas: If you gain their loyalty, they will need no orders. They will volunteer.
Rook: I can’t build these people up knowing I might have to send them to their deaths. There’s always another option.
Solas: (Sighs) Perhaps you are right. Building your team is the best way to minimize the chance of such an order becoming necessary.
13 - I understand.
Rook: I knew I might have to make a call like that when Varric put me in charge.
Solas: A good leader never makes such a decision lightly, but when the time comes, it is better to be prepared. And perhaps it will not come to that. The stronger your team, the more chances you will have to avoid such a decision.
14 - Scene continues.
Return to previous tree.Rook: I’ll keep that in mind. Do you have any suggestions on our next move against the gods?
Solas: If you oppose Elgar’nan and Ghilan’nain’s minions, you will get your opportunity.
Rook: You think one of the Antaam or Venatori commanders will help us find the gods?
Solas: Possibly, but more importantly, you will aggravate them. You rendered Ghilan’nain mortal at Weisshaupt. It is an embarrassment—an insult—neither she nor Elgar’nan can ignore. If you continue to disrupt their plans, you will not need to track them down. They will come to you.
Dialogue options:
15 - Affable: Understood.
Rook: I’ll be ready.
16 - Sarcastic: I’m baiting them?
Rook: You think I can goad the gods into making a mistake?
Solas: I have absolute faith in your ability to aggravate enemies who should know better than to underestimate you.
17 - Stoic: Then it’s our turn.
Rook: And then we get some payback for Weisshaupt.
Solas: As long as you are ready when the opportunity comes.
18 - Scene continues.
Return to previous tree.Solas: One final warning: you have survived a confrontation with Ghilan’nain, which few still live to claim. But her power pales in comparison to Elgar’nan’s. If he takes the field, himself… Remember, in a fight such as ours, escaping to fight another day is a victory.
Bellara’s Question
Back to Bellara’s Directory
The PC heads to Lucanis, but is stopped by Bellara in front of the fire on the way.
Bellara: Oh. Hi, Rook. Um. Can I ask you a question? Actually, never mind. Don’t worry about it.
Rook: Okay, you’re several lines ahead of me here. Let’s start with me saying “Hi, Bellara.”
Bellara: Right. Okay. It’s just. You know. The elf thing. We’re fighting our gods. Our gods! It feels a little surreal. And I know surreal.
Dialogue options:
1 - Affable: Yeah. Me, too.
Elf Rook | Non-Elf Rook |
---|---|
Rook: Yeah. It’s… an adjustment. Whole lot of elven customs are feeling kind of weird right now. | Rook: Yeah, you and Davrin have it rough. At least we’re only fighting your gods because they’re evil? Maybe not the most helpful point to make.Bellara: No, it actually helps a little. But still. |
2 - Sarcastic: That’s putting it mildly.
But still. |
3 - Stoic: But necessary.
Rook: Not like we had much of a choice.
Bellara: Yeah.
Rook: So what was your question?
4 - Scene continues.

Bellara: That feels too easy. Like we’re not taking responsibility. And, I don’t know. I feel guilty. Anytime I think about it, really.
Rook: So who’s that helping?
Bellara: Who’s what helping?
Rook: Feeling guilty.
Bellara: Well. No one, I guess. But then what should I do?
Dialogue options:
- Flirt: Keep being you. [5]
- Affable: Don’t take the easy lies. [6]
- Sarcastic: Keep fighting the gods. [7]
- Stoic: Do nothing. [8]
5 - Flirt: Keep being you.
Rook: I don’t know. But you’re kind and compassionate, and that matters. It makes a difference.
Bellara: Rook. That… means a lot. Thank you. But is it really that easy?
Elf Rook | Non-Elf Rook |
---|---|
Bellara: Does kindness make up for it? What our people did, I mean?Rook: The Evanuris did those things. And they did them to our people. | Bellara: Does kindness make up for it? What my people did, I mean?Rook: The Evanuris did those things. And they did them to your people. |
Bellara: Yeah.
6 - Affable: Don’t take the easy lies.
Rook: It’d be easy to pretend that stories about the benevolent elven gods were true. But we know they weren’t.
Elf Rook | Non-Elf Rook |
---|---|
Bellara: So what do we do? To make up for them, I mean?Rook: Be honest. About our history, but also about who we are now. We’re more than our ancient past. | Bellara: So what do I do? To make up for them, I mean?Rook: Be honest. About who you were, but also about who you are now. The past doesn’t define you. |
Bellara: Is it that easy, though? Just being honest?
Rook: Honesty’s hard work, but it’s the right kind of work. It’s important work.
Bellara: Right. I get it.
7 - Sarcastic: Keep fighting the gods.
Rook: Well, fighting two of the elven gods feels like a good start.
Elf Rook | Non-Elf Rook |
---|---|
Bellara: I wish that felt like enough. Like we were making up for, well… everything. But can we even do that? After what our people did?Rook: The Evanuris did those things. After what my people did?Rook: The Evanuris did those things. And they did them to your people. |
Bellara: Yeah.
8 - Stoic: Do nothing.
Rook: Don’t do anything. Just give it your best. That’s all any of us can do.
Elf Rook | Non-Elf Rook |

Bellara: Yeah.
9 - Scene continues.
Return to previous tree.Bellara: It’s hard. All of it’s hard. But I feel better. A little bit, anyways. Thanks. For talking to me. And listening to me.
Dialogue options:
10 - Affable: You’re welcome.
Rook: Hey, anytime. It’s what I’m here for.
Bellara: Right. It’s a good thing to be here for.
11 - Sarcastic: Hey, I was useful!
Rook: I’m no bard, but I can talk. Glad it helped.
Bellara: Well. You’re good at it.
12 - Stoic: Back to business.
Rook: Glad it helped. Now, how about we get back to it?
Bellara: Sure thing.
13 - Scene continues.
Return to previous tree.Bellara: See you later, Rook.

Check on Lucanis
Back to Lucanis’s Directory
Rook: Lucanis? Are you in here brooding?
Lucanis: I’m fine.
Rook: That’s not a “No.”
Lucanis: I had her. She should never have gotten away from me. This was our contract, Rook. I don’t fail my contracts.
Dialogue options:
- Flirt (Saved Treviso): I’m glad you made it back. [1]
- Affable: You’ll get her next time. [2]
- Sarcastic: Everyone makes mistakes. [3]
- Stoic: It was a mess. [4]
1 - Flirt: I’m glad you made it back.
Rook: Forget about Ghilan’nain.
Lucanis: That’s why I’m here.
Rook: I know, but… I’m just happy you didn’t get killed out there.
Lucanis: You shouldn’t go easy on me.

Rook: Just think how much more satisfying it’ll be when you do take her down.
Lucanis: We cannot count on a second shot.
3 - Sarcastic: Everyone makes mistakes.
Rook: This can’t be the first time you’ve missed a target, right? What’d you do before?
Lucanis: I never miss.
4 - Stoic: It was a mess.
Rook: Let’s call it what it was. Weisshaupt was a disaster.
5 - Scene continues.

- Affable: Maybe you need a break. [6]
- Sarcastic: We’re up against gods. [7]

6 - Affable: Maybe you need a break.
Rook: You might need sleep more than work at this point.
Lucanis: You might be right.
Rook: It’s not over. Just… take care of yourself for now, okay?
7 - Sarcastic: We’re up against gods.
Rook: Ghilan’nain was a giant face in the clouds, Lucanis. I asked you to stab a cloud.
Lucanis: And I missed the damn cloud!
Rook: My point is: That was impossible, and you still almost did it. That’s not small.
8 - Stoic: Stay focused.
Rook: Focus on what you do best: hitting your mark when they least expect it. Ghilan’nain will remember that scratch you gave her.
Lucanis: For all the good it did.
Rook: We didn’t know what they were really capable of before. Now we do. We’ll be ready next time.
9 - Scene continues.
Return to previous tree.Lucanis: (Sighs) I was distracted. That cannot happen again. I need to get my head on straight.
Rook: Whatever you need to do.
Lucanis: Have you been to talk to the others? Davrin, especially. I think everyone might have… things to deal with now.

Check on Davrin
Back to Davrin’s Directory
Rook walks in to Davrin carving more small figures.
Rook: Davrin. Davrin, about Weisshaupt…
Dialogue options:
1 - Affable: Are you okay?
Rook: Just wanted to make sure you’re okay after…
Davrin: I wouldn’t say that, no.
2 - Stoic: You made them pay.
Rook: One less Archdemon in the world. At least you made them pay.
Davrin: It wasn’t enough.
3 - Sad: I’m sorry.
Rook: Davrin, I’m so sorry.
Davrin: Yeah.
Grey Warden Rook | Non-Grey Warden Rook |
---|---|
Rook: I’ve never been the most popular Warden, but the Order still runs in my blood. I never imagined a day when Weisshaupt would just… be gone. | Rook: I can’t believe Weisshaupt is gone. It’s always been there, protecting the world. |
Davrin: It wasn’t supposed to be like this.
4 - Scene continues.
Return to previous tree.Davrin: That’s Rounald. Malmont. Anya. We used to argue: Who’d be the one to take an Archdemon down? Who’d die so that others could live? Not sure any of us believed it’d actually happen.
Rook: When the moment came, you did the Wardens proud.
Davrin: Did I? Because I’m still here. They’re not.
Dialogue options:
- Affable: I’m glad you are. [5]
- Stoic: Move on. [6]
- Sad: They were heroes. [7]
- Grey Warden: I feel the same. [8]
5 - Affable: I’m glad you are.
Rook: Personally, I’m glad you’re here. We still need you.
Davrin: And I need this to make sense.
Rook: You’re overthinking it.
Davrin: Am I? A Grey Warden kills an Archdemon, they die. That’s how it works.
6 - Stoic: Move on.
Rook: Beating yourself up about it’s not going to help. It wasn’t your day to go. Move on.
Davrin: But it should’ve been my day. A Grey Warden kills an Archdemon, they die. That’s how it works.
7 - Sad: They were heroes.
Rook: There’s no getting them back. But at least they died heroes.
Davrin: And I should’ve joined them. A Grey Warden kills an Archdemon, they’re supposed to die.
8 - Grey Warden: I feel the same.
Rook: This whole mess is my battle more than anyone else’s. I should’ve died before they did.
Davrin: Can’t help but wonder—maybe a Warden who survives an Archdemon is no Warden at all.
Rook: It’s in your blood. Our blood. No escaping it.
Davrin: But we just did.
9 - Scene continues.
Return to previous tree.Davrin: You know that. You signed up for it, too.
Rook: Who knows what happened? Maybe the gods changed things and the old rules don’t apply. Why is being alive a problem?
Davrin: Because I didn’t expect to be here! Grey Wardens have an expiration. It pushed me!
Rook: There’s more fight to go.
Davrin: And if we manage to pull that off?
Rook: You’ll do what you do best: hunt monsters.
Davrin: Plenty of people can do that! I’m talking purpose. I feel like a blade sharpened all these years to confront the worst darkness in the world. And my blade struck true at Weisshaupt. What now?
Rook: Well. You’ll raise Assan to create a world where the light outshines the darkness.
Davrin: Yeah? Well, let me tell you. That…will require a lot more gingerwort truffles. (Chuckles)
Dialogue options:
- Flirt (never flirted before): You can handle it. [10]
- Flirt: You’re not alone. [11]
- Affable: Welcome back. [12]
- Sarcastic: It’s a living. [13]
- Stoic: No more death wish. [14]
+ Davrin Approves
10 - Flirt: You can handle it.
Rook: It’ll work out. Someone like you, a slayer of Archdemons…
Davrin: Oh, yeah? Keep going.
Rook: …oh, a heroic Grey Warden…
Davrin: Mm-hmm. I’m listening.
Rook: …and, uh, admirer of all things Rook?
Davrin: Now that you mention it, yeah.
Assan: (Jealous squawk)
Davrin: And you, too. I always admire the prince.
11 - Flirt: You’re not alone.
Rook: If you want company, I’ll be there.
Davrin: I was kinda hoping you’d say that.
Rook: Just “kinda”?
Davrin: Well, I’m not that easy to catch.
Rook: Hey, I know a griffon. He’ll hunt you down.
Assan: (Friendly squawk)
Davrin: Oh, you’re in on this, too, boy?
Rook: I don’t think you’re ever shaking him loose.
Davrin: I can live with that.
12 - Affable: Welcome back.
Rook: That’s more like it. Good to have you back.
Davrin: Somebody has to feed his feathery butt.
Assan: (Happy squawk)
Rook: You live to serve, my friend.
Davrin: Guess we’re stuck with each other, boy. No getting rid of me now.
Assan: (Happy squawk)
Davrin: Someday I might actually know what that means.
13 - Sarcastic: It’s a living.
Rook: Hey, there are worse jobs than being a professional truffle hunter.
Davrin: Don’t start.
Assan: (Indignant squawk)
Rook: He seems to like the idea.
Davrin: Guess we’re stuck with each other, boy. No getting rid of me now.
Assan: (Happy squawk)
Davrin: Someday I might actually know what that means.
14 - Stoic: No more death wish.
Rook: I don’t want to hear any more talk about dying, okay?
Davrin: Fair enough.
Assan: (Pleased squawk)
Rook: He’s counting on you.
Davrin: Guess we’re stuck with each other, boy. No getting rid of me now.
Assan: (Happy squawk)
Davrin: Someday I might actually know what that means.
15 - Scene continues.
Return to previous tree.Rook: While you sort that out, maybe you and Lucanis can try to bury the hatchet?
Davrin: Yeah.
Rook: He had a rough time of it too.
Davrin: I know. That was an incredible shot he took at Ghilan’nain.
Rook: Then tell him that—because fighting each other won’t help us defeat the gods.
Davrin: But we’ve got help: the Wardens, Shadow Dragons, Crows, Veil Jumpers—we’re all in this together.
Rook: We are, but they’ve all got their own problems. If we want their help, we have to help them first.
Davrin: Is that a plan I hear forming?
Rook: I think it could be… Thanks, Davrin.
