Morrigan
Worldstate dependent dialogue:
The PC is walking through the garden when they are approached by a child.
Kieran: You’re the Inquisitor.
Kieran (Qunari PC): You’re very tall. Mother didn’t say you were a Qunari. Kieran (dwarf PC): You’re very short. Mother didn’t say you were a dwarf. Kieran (Dalish PC): Mother never told me the Inquisitor was an elf. Kieran (human mage PC): Mother never told me the Inquisitor was a mage. Kieran (non-mage human PC): I thought you’d be scarier. Mother said you were scary.
Choice dependent dialogue:
- Old-god Kieran [1]
- Human Kieran [2]
1 - Old-god Kieran
Dialogue options:
- General: Is that a bad thing? [3]
- General (Non-mage human PC): Is that a bad thing? [4]
- General: I am indeed a Qunari/dwarf/elf. [5]
- General (human mage PC): You can sense that? [6]
- General (non-mage human PC): But I am scary. [7]
- General: Who is your mother? [8]
3 - General: Is that a bad thing? PC: That’s not such a terrible thing, is it? Kieran (Qunari PC): No. I just feel bad about what happened to your people. Kieran (dwarf PC): No. It would be worse if you couldn’t touch magic at all. Like being blind. Kieran (Dalish PC): No. I just don’t know why your people want to look like that. Kieran (mage PC): No. It would be worse if you couldn’t touch magic at all. Like being blind. [9]
4 - General: Is that a bad thing? PC: Why would your mother say such a thing? Kieran: Because people fear the next age if it comes too soon. [9]
5 - General: I am indeed a Qunari/dwarf/elf.
PC (Qunari PC): Oh? I’m told it’s the first thing one notices about me. Kieran: I noticed your blood. It doesn’t belong to your people. [9]
PC (dwarf PC): You caught me. And I was trying so hard to be taller. Kieran: But you can’t be taller. Not without the titans. [9]
PC (Dalish PC): The ears gave me away, didn’t they? Kieran: No. Your blood is very old. I saw it right away. [9]
6 - General: You can sense that? PC: If you can sense magic, don’t ever become a templar. Kieran: I can’t. The lyrium gives me terrible nightmares. [9]
7 - General: But I am scary. PC: Some people seem to think I’m the most frightening thing in the world. Kieran: Mother says they would think the same about me, if they knew. [9]
8 - General: Who is your mother? PC: And just who is your mother? Kieran: Mother is the inheritor, she who awaits the next age. [9]
9 - Scene continues.
Morrigan: Kieran. Are you bothering the Inquisitor?
Kieran: Of course not. Did you see what’s on [their] hand, Mother?
Morrigan: I did see. ‘Tis time to return to your studies, little man. [17]
2 - Human Kieran
Dialogue options:
- General: Is that a bad thing? [10]
- General (Non-mage human PC): Is that a bad thing? [11]
- General: I am indeed a Qunari/dwarf/elf. [12]
- General (human mage PC): You can sense that? [13]
- General (non-mage human PC): But I am scary. [14]
- General: Who is your mother? [15]
10 - General: Is that a bad thing? PC: That’s not such a terrible thing, is it? Kieran (Qunari PC): I guess not. You just have really scary horns. Kieran (dwarf PC): No. It would be worse if you couldn’t touch magic at all. Like being blind. Kieran (Dalish PC): No. I think elves are pretty. Kieran (mage PC): No. Magic isn’t so scary like everyone thinks. [16]
11 - General: Is that a bad thing? PC: Why would your mother say such a thing? Kieran: I don’t know. You seem nice for someone who kills a lot. [16]
12 - General: I am indeed a Qunari/dwarf/elf.
PC (Qunari PC): Oh? I’m told it’s the first thing one notices about me. Kieran: Mother notices strange things about everyone. [16]
PC (dwarf PC): You caught me. And I was trying so hard to be taller. Kieran: I know how you feel. [16]
PC (Dalish PC): The ears gave me away, didn’t they? Kieran: Yes, they’re very large. [16]
13 - General: You can sense that? PC: If you can sense magic, don’t ever become a templar. Kieran: I don’t think Mother would like that much. [16]
14 - General: But I am scary. PC: Some people seem to think I’m the most frightening thing in the world. Kieran: Those people haven’t met you, have they? [16]
15 - General: Who is your mother? PC: And just who is your mother? Kieran: She’s the Witch of the Wilds. [16]
16 - Scene continues.
Morrigan walks up.
Morrigan: Kieran. Are you bothering the Inquisitor?
Kieran: I was just saying hello, Mother.
Morrigan: And now you are retuning to your studies, little man. [17]
17 - Scene continues.
Kieran leaves them.
Morrigan: My son. Never where you expect him to be, naturally.
18 - Dialogue options:
- Investigate: He’s your son? [19]
- General: You must be proud. [20]
- General (old-god Kieran): He’s a bit… odd. [21]
- General (human Kieran): He seems so… normal. [22]
- General: I wanted to talk to you. [23]
19 - Investigate: He’s your son? PC: I didn’t know you had a son. Morrigan: Why would you? I take great pains to not let my own reputation affect him in any way. To most in the Imperial Court, he is simply a quiet and well-spoken lad. Perhaps the heir of some distant family. But he goes where I go. Worry not, Inquisitor–Kieran is a curious boy, but seldom troublesome.
Dialogue options:
- Special: Where is his father? [24]
- [Back to 18]
24 - Special: Where is his father? PC: Will his father be joining us as well? Morrigan: ‘Twould be… most unlikely.
Morrigan (father was not involved): I have raised Kieran on my own for quite some time now, as was my preference from the start. Morrigan (warden stayed with Morrigan): His father helped raise Kieran for a time, but events have conspired to take him elsewhere. Morrigan (father died killing the archdemon): His father is dead.
Morrigan: So ’tis but the two of us, Inquisitor. Your fortress is a large place, and you will scarce notice our presence. [back to 18]
20 - General: You must be proud. PC: He seems like a fine young man. Morrigan: But not the sort one might expect a woman like me to raise? No son of mine would be raised in a marsh, bereft of contact with the outside world. Morrigan (father not involved/old-god Kieran): His future will be difficult enough without my adding to his burden. Morrigan (warden stayed with Morrigan): He has done well. His father has every reason to be proud. [25]
21 - General: He’s a bit… odd. PC: There’s something rather… unusual about him. Morrigan: There is. He is a special lad. It falls to me to protect him from anything and anyone that mean him ill. Most of all, he must be protected from myself. No one could harm him more than I. [25]
22 - General: He seems so… normal. PC: He’s not what I would have expected. Morrigan: He is just a boy, Inquisitor. If he is remarkable, that is his father’s doing and not mine. Inquisitor: Oh? I thought… Morrigan: If I do anything well by Kieran, it will be to inflict as little damage as possible. [25]
23 - General: I wanted to talk to you. PC: I came here to talk with you. Morrigan: So you did. [25]
25 - Scene continues.
Morrigan: To think, until recently this place stood decrepit, occupied only by the desperate and the lost. Now it is party to events that threaten to shake the world. I wonder if it is pleased?
26 - Dialogue options:
- Investigate: You know about Skyhold? [27]
- General: I’m rather fond of it. [28]
- General: We were lucky to find it. [29]
- General: It’s defensible, at least. [30]
27 - Investigate: You know about Skyhold? PC: It sounds like you’ve heard of Skyhold before. Morrigan: This fortress was built upon the remains of a site holy to the ancient elves. They called it Tarasyl’an: “The place where the sky is kept.” It is said that from here, they reached up to the heavens to bring them down to rest. They abandoned it, as did the humans who came after them. Bones laid upon bones, silent until your arrival. [back to 26]
28 - General: I’m rather fond of it. PC: I like this place. I’ve made it mine. [31]
29 - General: We were lucky to find it. PC: We were lucky to have found it when we did. Morrigan: Fate is often mistaken for luck, as Mother is fond of saying. [31]
30 - General: It’s defensible, at least. PC: It’s more defensible than Haven. After what happened there… Morrigan: You chose better than perhaps even you know. [31]
31 - Scene continues.
Morrigan: The magic in this place has seeped into the stones, protecting it from darkness. Those who let it fall to ruin did not know what they possessed. You, I think, shall do it justice.
Morrigan (invited Morrigan to join): You were kind to welcome my aid, Inquisitor, even knowing as little of me as you do. Morrigan (did not want Morrigan to join): I know you did not want me here, Inquisitor.
Morrigan: I will do my best to aid your cause with all the knowledge at my disposal. This I swear to you.
Dialogue options:
-
General: Thank you. PC: I appreciate whatever help you can give us.
-
General: That’s very serious. PC: You swear it? That’s rather serious.
-
General: You’ll be useful. PC: Just don’t hold anything back–we need every advantage.
Morrigan: Some might think Corypheus a madman for seeking godhood. Yet one must ask: what were the Old Gods? What secrets of theirs did the ancient magisters know? What I fear–what all should fear–is not that Corypheus believes he can succeed: ’tis that he actually may.
Scene ends.
The PC approaches Morrigan in the Skyhold gardens.
Morrigan: ‘Tis a large fortress, Inquisitor. To think, until recently this place stood decrepit, occupied only by the desperate and the lost. Now it is party to events that threaten to shake the world. I wonder if it is pleased?

Scene ends.
Our Next Move
The PC enters the war room with the advisors.
PC: It’s time to plan our next attack. What’s the state of the Inquisition?
Josephine (Celene rules): We’re well loved in Orlais. Say the word, and Empress Celene will send her support. Josephine (Gaspard rules): We have the military might of Orlais behind us. Emperor Gaspard will send support on request. Josephine (Gaspard and Briala rule): Ambassador Briala has not forgotten her debt. You may count on aid from Orlais. Josephine (public truce): Our alliance with Orlais holds. For the present. They’ll send aid on request.
Cullen: And your actions at Adamant denied Corypheus his army of pet demons. With Orlais’ support, our numbers match his. Corypheus’s followers must be panicking.
Leliana: My agents agree. Our victories have shaken his disciples.
Dialogue options:
-
General: Let’s hope for deserters. PC: Perhaps they’ll rethink following the darkspawn magister from the dawn of time. Where is Corypheus now?
-
General: I’m sure they are. PC: We’ve beaten their “god” twice over. Corypheus must be livid. Where is he now?
-
General: They’ll be easier targets. PC: That’s what we want. Demoralized soldiers fall first. Where is Corypheus now?
Cullen (WEWH done after HLTA): After you dealt with the duchess, Corypheus uprooted his major strongholds. He’s moving south to the Arbor Wilds. Cullen (HLTA done after WEWH): After Adamant, Corypheus uprooted his major strongholds and sent them marching south to the Arbor Wilds.
Cullen: His army clearly wasn’t prepared to flee. Our victories have them on the defensive.
Dialogue options:
-
General: We’ll keep them there.
PC: They’ve terrorized Thedas long enough. We end them now. If Corypheus is hiding in the Arbor Wilds, that’s where we’ll go. -
General: They’ll be hard to miss. PC: Good of Corypheus to make it easy to find him. If he’s hiding in the Arbor Wilds, that’s where we’ll go.
-
General: It’s time to finish them off. PC: We strike Corypheus now, while his people are reeling. If he’s hiding in the Arbor Wilds, that’s where we finish him.
Josephine: But what is Corypheus doing in such a remote area?
Leliana: His people have been ransacking elven ruins since Haven. We believe he seeks more. What he hopes to find, however… continues to elude us.
Morrigan: Which should surprise no one.
Morrigan walks in.
Morrigan: Fortunately, I can assist.
Dialogue options:
- General: Please continue. [1]
- General: It can’t hurt. [2]
- General: You’re intruding. [3]
1 - General: Please continue. PC: You have my attention, Lady Morrigan. Morrigan: What Corypheus seeks in those forgotten woods is as ancient as it is dangerous. [4]
2 - General: It can’t hurt. PC: I’ll ignore that you wandered in without knocking. You have my attention. Morrigan: What Corypheus seeks in those forgotten woods is as ancient as it is dangerous. [4]
3 - General: You’re intruding. PC: The guards outside aren’t for show. Morrigan: I am not here to amuse myself, Inquisitor. Corypheus yearns for something he must not find. [4]
4 - Scene continues
PC: Which is?
Morrigan: ‘Tis best… if I show you.
Scene ends.
The Eluvian
Morrigan leads the PC through Skyhold into a small room off the gardens.
Morrigan: This is an eluvian. An elven artifact, from a time long before their empire was lost to human greed. I restored this one at great cost, but another lies within the Arbor Wilds. That is what Corypheus seeks.
Dialogue options:
- Special (Dalish PC): An elven artifact? [1]
- General: It’s beautiful. [2]
- General: How did you find this? [3]
- General: You brought this here? [4]
1 - Special: An elven artifact? PC: This… belonged to my people? [5]
2 - General: It’s beautiful. PC: It’s… beautiful, in its way. [5]
3 - General: How did you find this? PC: You can restore an artifact like this? Morrigan: There was a price, but one I gladly paid. [5]
4 - General: You brought this here? PC: Corypheus wants this, and you brought it into my castle? Morrigan: If the darkspawn could breach these walls, would he not have already come for you? [5]
5 - Scene continues.
Morrigan: I found legends of an elven temple within the Arbor Wilds, untouched. It proved too dangerous to approach, and thus I turned elsewhere to find my prize. If Corypheus has turned southward, he could succeed where I failed. The eluvian would be his.
PC: What does it do?
Morrigan activates the eluvian with a flourish.
Morrigan: A more appropriate question would be “where does it lead?”
The PC follows Morrigan through. They emerge in a foggy courtyard full of other eluvians. [As an aside, an elven inky should be able to see more and have an easier time in the crossroads. According the The Masked Empire, all other races struggle in these areas, getting dizzy and fatigued quicker.]
Morrigan: If this place once had a name, it has long been lost. I call it the Crossroads, a place where all eluvians join… wherever they might be.
Dialogue options:
- General: Are we in danger? [6]
- General: It’s incredible. [7]
- General: This could be useful. [8]
6 - General: Are we in danger? PC: Is this place dangerous? It feels… Morrigan: Unnatural, yes. We are, however, in no immediate peril.
7 - General: It’s incredible. PC: This place is extraordinary. How could this even exist? Morrigan: Who can say? Formed from the fabric of time and space, perhaps.
8 - General: This could be useful. PC: A useful trick. Morrigan: For one who knows the way, certainly.
9 - Scene continues
Morrigan: The ancient elves left no roads, only ruins hidden in far-flung corners. This is how they travelled between them. As you can see, most of the mirrors are dark: broken, corrupted, or unusable. As for the rest… a few can be opened from this side. But only a few.
10 - Dialogue options:
- Investigate: How did you find this? [11]
- Investigate: “Opened from this side”? [12]
- General: Corypheus wants this? [13]
- General: I don’t understand. [14]
- General: Are these useful at all? [15]
11 - Investigate: How did you find this?
PC: How did you find out about this place?
Morrigan: My travels have led me to many strange destinations, Inquisitor. Once they led me here. It offered sanctuary.
PC: Sanctuary?
Morrigan: Not all the mirrors lead back to our world. The ancients were nothing if not… resourceful.
Dialogue options:
- Special: What does that mean? [16]
- [Back to 10]
16 - Special: What does that mean? PC: If they don’t lead back to our world, then… ? Morrigan: Places between, like this one. I can describe it no better.
Morrigan (warden died/warden did not stay with Morrigan): For a time, I was safe from those who hunted me. Morrigan (warden stayed with Morrigan): For a time, I had a respite with the man I loved. For a time, I had a safe place to raise my son. Morrigan (had Kieran, father not involved): For a time, I had a safe place to raise my son.
Morrigan: But only for a time. One cannot remain in between forever. [Back to 10]
12 - Investigate: “Opened from this side”? PC: What do you mean, “a few can be opened from this side”? Morrigan: Some of the eluvians have been left unlocked, like doors accidentally left ajar. All others are closed. They can be opened only from beyond. PC: Opened how? Morrigan: With a key.
Dialogue options:
- Special: You have a key? [17]
- [Back to 10]
17 - Special: You have a key? PC: I suppose you have such a key. Morrigan: The key can be many things. Each eluvian is different. I have knowledge as well as power. Often that is enough. [Back to 10]
13 - General: Corypheus wants this? PC: Corypheus wants to come… here? [18]
14 - General: I don’t understand. PC: This is all very interesting, but why show it to me? [18]
15 - General: Are these useful at all? PC: If most of these mirrors are broken or locked, then what use are they? [18]
18 - Scene continues
Morrigan: This… is not the Fade, but it is very close. Someone with enough power could tear down the ancient barriers…
PC: And enter the Fade in the flesh. Like Corypheus wanted to do with the Anchor.
Morrigan: He learned of the eluvian in the Arbor Wilds, as I did. He marshals the last of his forces to reach it. You have made Corypheus desperate, Inquisitor. We must work together to stop him, and soon.
They head back through the eluvian to Skyhold.
Plan of Attack
Leliana: With an eluvian, Corypheus could cross into the Fade in the flesh?
Morrigan: Indeed. The Inquisitor can attest that these artifacts still work if one knows how to use them.
Cullen: What happens when Corypheus enters the Fade?
Morrigan: Why, he will gain his heart’s desire, and take the power of a god. Or–and this is more likely–the lunatic will unleash forces that tear the world apart.
Dialogue options:
- General: Another reason to stop him. [1]
- General: We can’t have that. [2]
- General: He won’t live to try. [3]
1 - General: Another reason to stop him. PC: I won’t allow it. I can’t. Morrigan: Indeed. Should Corypheus succeed, do not doubt you would be first to feel his holy wrath. [4]
2 - General: We can’t have that. PC (sided mages): In Redcliffe, I saw the future Corypheus built. We can’t let that happen. PC (sided templars): Reasons for stopping Corypheus have gone from “revenge” to “keep the world intact.” Morrigan: ‘Twas always so, was it not? The madman would bury us all. [4]
3 - General: He won’t live to try. PC: We don’t have to worry about this eluvian if Corypheus isn’t alive to use it. Morrigan: Stopping him thusly would be ideal, if you could manage it. [4]
4 - Scene continues.
Josephine: Pardon me, but… does this mean everything’s lost unless we get to the eluvian before him?
Cullen: Corypheus has a head start, no matter how quickly our army moves.
Josephine: We should gather our allies before we march.
Leliana: Can we wait for them? We should send our spies ahead to the Arbor Wilds.
Cullen: Without support from the soldiers? You’d lose half of them!
Josephine: Then what should we do?
Dialogue options:
-
General: You work as a team. PC: You overcome it. All three of you together.
-
General: I advise we stop panicking. PC: For starters, we don’t let Corypheus worry us to death. Imagine how embarrassing that would be.
-
General: You listen to my plan. PC: You follow the orders of your Inquisitor. All three of you.
PC: Josephine, have our allies send scouts to meet us in the Wilds. Leliana, your fastest agents will join them. Together, we’ll have enough spies to slow down Corypheus’s army until Cullen’s soldiers arrive.
Morrigan: Such confidence, but the Arbor Wilds are not so kind to visitors. Old elven magic lingers in those woods.
Josephine: We’d be remiss not to take advantage of your knowledge, Lady Morrigan. Please, lend us your expertise.
Morrigan: ‘Tis why I came here, although it is good to see its value recognized.
Cullen: Any further instructions, Inquisitor?
Dialogue options:
- General: I’m proud of all of you. [5]
- General: This is going to hurt. [6]
- General: Corypheus has this coming. [7]
5 - General: I’m proud of all of you. PC: The Inquisition began as a handful of soldiers. Thanks to you, we’re now a force that will topple a self-proclaimed god. I could ask for no finer council, no better guidance. Cullen: I speak for all of us when I answer: we could ask for no finer cause. [8]
6 - General: This is going to hurt. PC: We’ve embarked on a quest that ends in facing the most powerful monster in all Thedas. Do get a good night’s sleep. Cullen: As you wish. [8]
7 - General: Corypheus has this coming. PC: Remember what Corypheus has done while you plan. Every loss, every setback, every death. Let him learn what it means to be an enemy of the Inquisition. [8]
8 - Scene continues.
Leliana: We’ll hound Corypheus in the Wilds before he can find the temple or this “eluvian.”
The PC confirms the quest, and the scene fades to black. A cutscene plays of the Inquisition gathering allies and preparing for the march on the Arbor Wilds plays.
The Arbor Wilds
The PC walks through the Inquisition’s camp in the Arbor wilds.
Captain: Inquisitor!
PC: How goes the battle, Captain?
Captain (sided templars): The red templars fall beneath our blades, Your Worship. Commander Cullen says they’re nearly finished. Captain (sided mages): We’re holding, barely. The red templars are fighting harder than ever with their master nearby.
Captain: Our scouts saw Corypheus traveling toward an elven ruin to the north. We can clear you a path through his armies.
Dialogue options:
- General: Take care, Captain. [1]
- General: As simple as that? [2]
- General: Hold nothing back. [3]
1 - General: Take care, Captain. PC: Do only what you must. We need enough people for a celebration when we get back to Skyhold. Captain: We will not fail you, my [lord/lady]. No matter what comes. [4]
2 - General: As simple as that? PC: So all you have to do is fend off Corypheus’s worst zealots until I’ve returned. Captain: We shall not flinch, Your Worship! Not a one of us. [4]
3 - General: Hold nothing back. PC: Make the monsters pay, Captain. Leave none standing. Captain: We shall not flinch, Your Worship! Not a one of us. [4]
4 - Scene continues.
Captain: Andraste guide you, Inquisitor.
Morrigan approaches as the soldier leaves.
Morrigan: I wonder: is it Andraste your soldiers invoke during battle, or does a more immediate name come to their lips?
Dialogue options:
- General: I’m not the Maker. [5]
- General: I can’t even think about it. [6]
- General: Let’s get on with it. [7]
5 - General: I’m not the Maker. PC: They show me respect, Morrigan. No one mistakes me for the Maker. Morrigan: True. You are far more likely to come to their aid than a Chantry fable… but I digress. [8]
6 - General: I can’t even think about it. PC: Another way to let people down if I falter. Thank you for the reminder. Morrigan: ‘Twas not I who raised an army of faithful to storm this land, Inquisitor… but I digress. [8]
7 - General: Let’s get on with it. PC: We’re in the middle of a war, Morrigan. Time is short. [8]
8 - Scene continues.
Morrigan: If your scouts report accurately, I believe these ruins to be the Temple of Mythal.
PC: Which is?
Morrigan: A place of worship out of elven legend. If Corypheus seeks it, then the eluvian he covets lies within.
Morrigan: Let us hope we reach this temple before the entire forest is reduced to ash.
The scene ends, and the PC is left to traverse the camp.
Base Camp
The PC heads through camp. Josephine is nearby.
Choice dependent dialogue:
- Gaspard rules alone [1]
- Briala and Gaspard rule [2]
- Gaspard executed [3]
- Celene rules/Public truce, Gaspard alive [4]
1 - Gaspard rules alone: Josephine: We are humbled by Orlais’ support, Lord LaMarche. Emperor Gaspard has saved Thedas. LaMarche: His Majesty is overjoyed to fight alongside the Inquisition. “A worthy hunt,” he said. Emperor Gaspard will avenge his cousin’s murder. Josephine: Then let this be for the memory of Empress Celene, and the peace of Orlais. LaMarche: Quite so, Ambassador. May the empress watch from the Maker’s side. [6]
2 - Briala and Gaspard rule: Josephine: Lord LaMarche, we thank Orlais for its swift and steady friendship. LaMarche: It’s to our elven nobility your thanks should be directed. Marquise Briala insisted His Majesty help the Inquisition. As you know, he values her advice immensely. Josephine: Without it, Orlais would face Corypheus on its own soil. This battleground is preferable, no? LaMarche: (Sighs.) Doubtless. [5]
3 - Gaspard executed: Celene: Your faith in your commander is well places, Ambassador. Victory is all but in sight. Josephine: With Orlais’ imperial guard joining us, it was never in doubt. Corypheus has been seen in the fray. Will you not consider moving further from the front line? Celene: Dear Lady Montilyet, we cannot send our subjects where we ourselves fear to tread. All Thedas will see Orlais stand triumphant with the chosen of Andraste. Josephine: As Your Majesty wishes. [5]
4 - Celene rules/Public truce, Gaspard alive: Celene: We are aware of the designs Corypheus has on our lives and people, Ambassador. You must excuse us, however if our mind wanders to our beloved kingdom. Josephine: I pray Orlais fares well in your absence. Celene: It is our return to court that concerns us. Our dear cousin Gaspard warns it might align with poor weather. Josephine: it is ambitious to predict so far into the future. I’m confident Your Majesty can weather any storm. Celene: We’ll see how this battle proceeds. Corypheus yet threatens to engulf us. [5]
5 - Scene continues.
The PC speaks to Josephine.
Josephine: Inquisitor. I hear this “eluvian” lies in a temple nearby.
Choice dependent dialogue:

9 - General: I’ll be back soon. PC: We’re so close, Josephine. A few more hours, and this will all be over. Josephine: Maker, let it be so. Return once you can. [15]
10 - General: We’ll celebrate alone later. PC: Once we’re home, we’ll spend quite some time in private. Josephine: Shhh! How can you think of that now? PC: How can I not? Josephine: We’ll… arrange something after. Return once you can. [15]
7 - Not in relationship with Josephine Josephine: That’s where the fighting will be worst. Andraste keep you safe.
Dialogue options:
- General (claimed chosen): She will. [11]
- General: We’ll make it. [12]
- General: Keep yourself safe. [13]
- General: Come join us! [14]
11 - General: She will. PC: Our Lady guided me to this moment. She would not leave us now. Josephine: Then I will be as the other faithful and wait. Good luck. [15]
12 - General: We’ll make it. PC: Our soldiers have courage. The Inquisition will make it through. Josephine: Then I will be as the other faithful and wait. Good luck. [15]
13 - General: Keep yourself safe. PC: Move everyone immediately if the fighting comes closer. Josephine: You may count on it. Good luck. [15]
14 - General: Come join us! PC: Are you sure you don’t want to grab a sword and wade in? Josephine: (Sighs.) I shall remain where I’m of some use, your worship, if it’s all the same. Good luck. [15]
15 - Scene continues.

16 - Celene rules: Celene: We are gladdened to see you, Herald. This day will be recalled for ages. We are privileged to witness the fulfillment of the Inquisition’s purpose.
Dialogue options:
- General: The honor is mine. [19]
- General: The Inquisition might persist. [20]
- General: My soldiers need me. [21] +Sera slightly approves (if in party)
19 - General: The honor is mine. PC: The sight of our Orlesian allies risking their lives here humbles me. Celene: Your worthy cause would have friends, even if we did not will it. Men and women of faith serve you. Their favor is no less than our own, their service no less dear. With Orlais at your side, we will see you victorious against Corypheus. May you walk in the light. [34]
20 - General: The Inquisition might persist. PC: There are other ills, Your Majesty, that the Inquisition may be called upon to attend. Celene: We will note them with great interest. Their favor is no less than our own, their service no less dear. With Orlais at your side, we will see you victorious against Corypheus. May you walk in the light. [34]
21 - General: My soldiers need me. PC: I can’t speak long. I must join my soldiers on the field. Celene: It would be selfish to keep you. Their favor is no less than our own, their service no less dear. With Orlais at your side, we will see you victorious against Corypheus. May you walk in the light. [34]
17 - Gaspard rules alone Gaspar: A fine day for sport, Inquisitor! Come, let’s show these red templar brute rage founders against good Orlesian steel.
22 - Dialogue options:
- Investigate: Should you be fighting here? [23]
- Champion: To glorious battle. [24]
- General: Thank you for coming. [25]
- General: Anxious to start? [26]
- General: Let’s see who’s better. [27] +Dorian slightly approves (if in party) +Sera slightly approves (if in party)
23 - Investigate: Should you be fighting here? PC: Should you be risking your life here? Gaspard: As Emperor Drakon before me, I lead my nation from the front lines. There is time enough to grow old and wise and dull on my throne. For this day’s glory, I would be alive. [back to 22]
24 - Champion: To glorious battle. PC: We have the might of the Inquisition and Orlais behind us. If our enemies do not yet fear us, they soon will. Gaspard: (Laughs.) Who better to instruct them than you and I? It is your right to lead the charge. Go, and I shall follow. [28]
25 - General: Thank you for coming. PC: It’s an honor to fight alongside Your Majesty. Gaspard: Escaping the court is its own reward. One I intend to enjoy. It is your right to lead the charge. Go, and I shall follow. [28]
26 - General: Anxious to start? PC: You’re eager to join the fray, Emperor. Gaspard: If my reign is filled with honest battles, Inquisitor, I will die a happy man. It is your right to lead the charge. Go, and I shall follow. [28]
27 - General: Let’s see who’s better. PC: Only if we compare how many monsters we strike down today. Gaspard: (Laughs.) I’ll take a careful tally. One is honor-bound not to exaggerate! It is your right to lead the charge. Go, and I shall follow. [28]
28 - Scene continues.
Gaspard (spoken to again): At your pleasure, Inquisitor. By the Maker, I’ve missed this. [34]
18 - Briala and Gaspard rule Briala: You’ve put together an impressive army, inquisitor. PC: You’re dressed for battle. Briala: If the Herald of Andraste dares the fray, I could hardly stay home.
Dialogue options:
- General: Should you fight, Marquise? [29]
- General: You still have an edge. [30]
- General: You want to be seen helping. [31] +Cassandra slightly approves
29 - General: Should you fight, Marquise? PC: Should you risk yourself in battle, Marquise Briala? Briala: It’s safer here with red templars than home with Orlesian nobles eyeing my back. It will be refreshing to see the blade coming. [32]
30 - General: You still have an edge. PC: Are you sure? Court life makes one soft, I hear. Briala: (Short laugh.) Show me a palace where that’s true, I beg you. Briala (Dalish PC): An elf with power still shocks. You know how it feels to hear those whispers constantly. Enough of that. Sound the charge and we’ll show Corypheus the displeasure of Orlais. Briala (non-Dalish PC): Sound the charge, Inquisitor, and we’ll show Corypheus what comes of interfering in the affairs of Orlais. [32]
31 - General: You want to be seen helping. PC: You want people to see the first elven noble in history helping the Inquisition. Briala (Dalish PC): Our people need it. The more we are seen in important position, the harder it is to ignore us. Sound the charge, Inquisitor, and we’ll show Corypheus what comes of interfering in the affairs of Orlais. Briala (non-Dalish PC): Sound the charge, Inquisitor, and we’ll show Corypheus what comes of interfering in the affairs of Orlais. [32]
32 - Scene continues.
Briala (spoken to again): Whenever you’re ready Inquisitor. [34]
34 - Scene continues.
The PC continues through the camp, overhearing soldiers.
Soldier 1: We can’t send people east! Soldier 2: We can’t let the red templars break the supply lines. Soldier 1: Those shit-eating bastards don’t have the strength! Soldier 2: We thought that days ago. Would you risk them breaking through again?
Soldier 1: Where’s General Cullen? Soldier 2: He led the charge at dawn. Hasn’t stopped fighting since. The man hasn’t slept more than and hour two days running. Soldier 1: Andraste give me the strength. Or make me that young again.
The PC approaches what appears to be an area for the wounded.
Soldier 3: Where does it hurt? Soldier 4: Everywhere. Soldier 3: Maker, don’t move. You’ll open the wound. Soldier 4: Are we driving them back? Do the red templars fall? Soldier 3: They fall. You’ve done your part. Rest.
Soldier 4: Maker, I feel the ground shudder. Soldier 3: Catapults make short work of the bastards. Soldier 4: All those trees gone. Too nice here for a war… Soldier 3: I said rest.
Soldier 4: Where are Lachlin, and Allain? Aren’t they here yet? Soldier 3: Allain is fine. Lachlin… Lachlin fell behind. Soldier 4: What? Soldier 3: I’m sorry. Soldier 4: His mother was like an aunt to me. She kissed us farewell. What will I say when I return without her son? Soldier 3: That he fought for the Inquisition. That he triumphed.
A soldier prays to a figure of Andraste.
Soldier 5: As the sun renews itself, so must the faithful renew their love of the maker. Your penance shall be a joy, serving Him with a heart of love unbound. Your struggle shall be a gift, for it redeems you in His sight.
Dialogue options:
- General: [Finish the verse.] [35]
- General: Your work isn’t unnoticed. [36]
- General: You’re not the Maker’s yet. [37]
35 - General: [Finish the verse.] PC: Maker let me be a worthy servant, that you might take me unto His side. Soldier 5: My thanks, your worship. Andraste must hear you. [38]
36 - General: Your work isn’t unnoticed. PC: The Inquisition brought you into this struggle. Without men like you, it would fail. Soldier 5: I… the fight is justly entered, your worship. [38]
37 - General: You’re not the Maker’s yet. PC: The Maker can’t have you yet. Not while the Inquisition needs you. Soldier 5: My sword is yours, your worship. [38]
38 - Scene continues.
Soldier 5: I was a pilgrim at Haven. I saw the wreckage, and how you emerged to lead us. If the Maker bids me serve you, it will be done. Andraste help me.
The PC heads towards the battle.
Cutting Through the Enemy
The PC begins to head to the battle.
Party comments:
- Iron Bull: Now that’s a view. Get’s your blood going.
- Vivienne: Corypheus’s soldiers appear to be on the defensive.
- Cassandra: Listen to how close the fighting’s gotten! It will be worse ahead.
- Sera: Come on, let’s go plug some arseholes!
- Sera: This place is rubbish. What are we doing?
- Varric: One last push, and we can lick our wounds. I wonder if Corypheus will show.
- Dorian: I hope your right about this temple, Morrigan. I could use a building or two. Morrigan: Do the woods discomfort you, Pavus? Dorian: It’s mostly the people trying to cut our heads off that manage that.
Morrigan: Do you see the magic crackling? Something more powerful than the red templars stirs.
A soldier points them ahead.
Soldier: Emperor Gaspard and his bodyguard are just down the hill, Inquisitor. They wish to join you for the last push. Soldier: Marquise Briala and her bodyguard are just down the hill, Inquisitor. They wish to join you for the last push. Soldier: Empress Celene’s general is just down the hill, Inquisitor. He wishes to join you for the final push.
They continue down the path to help Orlesian soldiers fight.
Choice dependent dialogue:
- Gaspard rules [1]
- Briala and Gaspard rule [2]
- Celene/Public truce [3]
1 - Gaspard rules:
The PC joins Gaspard against the red templars.
Gaspard: For Val Royeaux! Hyah! Gaspard: Hah! Well met! Gaspard: Come, you scoundrels! Put your backs into it! Gaspard: To the Maker with them!
After the battle: Gaspard: Well fought, your worship! Let’s hope there’s more where they came from! Go find this temple your aides were on about. We’ll hold position. [4]
2 - Briala and Gaspard rule:
The PC joins Briala against the red templars.
Briala: Fight on Inquisitor! Orlais will turn the tide! Briala: For the Dales! Briala: Steady aim! Watch for the rear guards! Briala: Your time has come!
After the battle: Briala: We’ll hold position while you find your way to this temple. Briala (Dalish PC): Good luck, my friend. May you truly be the Maker’s chosen. Briala (non-Dalish PC): Best of luck, Herald of Andraste. [4]
3 - Celene rules/Public truce:
Orlesian General: Hail the Inquisitor! Her Imperial Majesty, Empress Celene, stands with you! Orlesian General: Glory to Andraste and the Inquisition! Glory to Orlais! Orlesian General: The beasts are flanking to the east. We’ll hold! We will hold! [4]
4 - Scene continues.
*They continue forward, fighting through more red templars and some Wardens as they proceed through the river past the great waterfall.
PC: Those were Grey Wardens. They must be the last of those enslaved at Adamant.
Party comments:
- Blackwall (???): Poor bastards. Corypheus has them dying by the dozen.
- Blackwall: We’ll remember the men they were. And we’ll avenge them.
- Cassandra: If they were forced to obey him, death will be a blessing.
- Iron Bull: That, or you got another set of Wardens pissed at you somehow.
- Morrigan: A most inglorious end. Still, if these puppet-Wardens show no mercy, neither can we.
The party continues, helping Inquisition soldiers along the way.
Soldier 1: For Haven, and the Divine! Soldier 1: The monsters are running, Your Worship.
Soldier 2: They fall. The red templars fall! Soldier 2: For the Inquisition!
Soldier 3: It’s the Inquisitor! Soldier 3: For the Herald!
Soldier 4: We’ve readied the way. Soldier 4: At your command Herald.
The party continues to the red templar forward camp.
Morrigan: There, ahead. An entire camp of red templars.
Party comments:
- Cassandra: Watch out. They’ve posted archers on the wall.
- Iron Bull: Watch yourself. Arches on the wall.
- Blackwall: Look sharp. They’ve got archers on the wall.
As they fight, strange elves join the fray.
Party comments:
- Iron Bull: Katara bas! They fight like a hurricane!
- Blackwall: These elves are damned fast!
- Vivienne: Who are these elves!
- Cassandra: Elves! But where did they come from?
- Dorian: Are those elves? Where did they come from?
- Varric: Who are these guys?
- Cole: These elves want us dead! Iron Bull: We noticed!
The fight ends.
Choice dependent dialogue:
- Dalish PC [5]
- non-Dalish PC [6]
5 - Dalish PC
PC: Who were those elves? They didn’t look Dalish.
Party comments:
- Solas: It seems this Temple of Mythal is not deserted after all.
- Varric: Yeah. Dalish are a lot more chatty.
- Blackwall: they’re no friends to the templars, that’s for sure.
- Vivienne: No, not at all.
- Sera: Least the bastards killed those red templars.
- Iron Bull: Whoever they are, they don’t like the res templars any better than we do.
- Cassandra: They fought unlike any Dalish I have ever seen. [7]
6 - non-Dalish PC
PC: Were we just attacked by elves?
Party comments:
- Solas: It seems this Temple of Mythal is not deserted after all.
- Varric: Uh-huh. But they don’t look like any elves I’ve ever seen.
- Cassandra: They do not look like Dalish or city elves.
- Sera: Not for long, we weren’t!
- Blackwall: Strange looking ones, too. At least they hate red templars.
- Vivienne: Did you feel that aura? Everything they wore dripped with magic.
- Dorian: Elves wielding strange magic, at that. Could you feel it? [7]
7 - Scene continues.
Morrigan: Perhaps these creatures are the reason few return from the Arbor Wilds.
They continue on, helping more soldiers.
Soldier 5: We’re pushing them back, Your Worship. Soldier 5: Always ready, Inquisitor. Soldier 5: Ready at your command.
Soldier 6: We’re ready to serve, my [lord/lady] Soldier 6: We’re honored, Inquisitor. Soldier 6: We stand with you, Your Worship.
As they continue, they come across more allies as they fight red templar behemoths at the ruined archways.
Choice dependent dialogue:
- Sided templars, Barris died [8]
- Sided templars, Barris lived [9]
- Sided mages [10]
8 - Sided templars, Barris died: Fletcher: (templars conscripted): Templars of the Inquisition! The Herald of Andraste fights with us! Fletcher: (templars allied): We fight to reclaim our honor! For the Order! Fletcher: Keep at them!
After the battle: Fletcher: We’ll break the red templars, Your Worship. I can feel the battle turning. With you here, the Maker favors us. [11]
9 - Sided templars, Barris lived Barris: (templars conscripted): At your command, Herald! The Inquisition’s templars are ready! Barris: (templars allied): Inquisitor! The Templar Order won’t rest until these bastard fall! Barris: For the Herald of Andraste!
After the battle: Barris: We’ll mop up any remaining red templars, Inquisitor. Andraste mark me: we’ll avenge every good knight who died in Therinfal. [11]
10 - Sided mages Fiona: We’ll hold these monster, Inquisitor! The free mages stand with the light! Fiona: inquisitor! The Circle of Magi stands with you! Fiona: Holds fast! Fiona: Quickly! One of them weakens!
After the battle: Fiona: Your scouts say more red templars are on their way. We’ll guard against them. Andraste guide you, for I’ve heard Corypheus is ahead. [11]
11 - Scene continues.
Leliana fight in some ruins along the way.
Leliana: Good hunting, Inquisitor! We’re keeping them at bay! Follow the river to the temple!
They find Cullen fighting at the temple gates.
Cullen: Press on, Inquisitor! Cullen: the Inquisition will not yield!
PC: That must be the Temple of Mythal.
Party comments:
-
Vivienne: Prepare yourself, my dear. It’s likely Corypheus will make an appearance. PC: I’d count on it. Be ready.
-
Varric: We haven’t seen Corypheus yet. bet that’s about to change. PC: I’d count on it. Be ready.
-
Blackwall: If we find Corypheus anywhere, it’ll be there. PC: I’d count on it. Be ready.
-
Cole: In front of us. Rage burning red. So close to what he wants, what he was, what he will be. PC: Corypheus.
-
Dorian: Any chance Corypheus will finally grace us with his presence? PC: I’d count on it. Be ready.
-
Solas: Be ready. Corypheus will be there.
Morrigan: I hear fighting ahead.
The PC walks through the archway to the temple entrance.
Temple of Mythal
The party approaches a ledge overlooking a bridge guarded by Sentinels.
Sentinel: Na melana sur, banallen!
Calpernia: The wretch mocks you, Master. Samson: They still think to fight us, Master.
Corypheus: These are but remnants. They will not keep us from the Well of Sorrows.
PC (to Morrigan): Well of Sorrows?
Morrigan shrugs.
Corypheus: Be honored! Witness death at the hands of a new god!
Corypheus walks into the magic that protects the bridge, passing through and grabbing one of the ancient elves. They both disintegrate in the beam, and there is an explosion that kills the surrounding Wardens and remaining elves. The PC goes down to investigate and watches Samson/Calpernia cross into the temple. Beside them, one of the Grey Warned corpses begins to reanimate, and Corypheus’s form begins to emerge.
Morrigan: It cannot be.
PC: Across the bridge. Now!
The rush across the bridge as Corypheus’s archdemon flies after them, and they manage to shut the temple doors just in time. The party continues into the temple.
Morrigan: At last. Mythal’s Sanctum. Let us proceed before Corypheus interferes.
Party comments:
- Cassandra: You said Corypheus wanted an eluvian, but he mentioned a “Well of Sorrows.” Which is right?
- Iron Bull: If he’s here for a mirror, why’d Corypheus say he wants a “Well of Sorrows”?
- Vivienne: Yes, indeed, we all heard Corypheus say he came for “the Well of Sorrows.” Not an eluvian.
- Dorian: Hold on. Corypheus mentioned a “Well of Sorrows.” I thought he was here for an eluvian?
- Sera: Why’s Lumpy after a Sorrow Well, or whatever? Weren’t we after some poncy mirror?
- Varric: So, you want to explain why Corypheus said he was here for some “Well of Sorrows” and not an eluvian?
- Blackwall: I thought Corypheus was here for an eluvian. Why did he mention a “Well of Sorrows” back on the bridge?
Morrigan: I… am uncertain of what he referred to.
Dialogue options:
- General: Are they the same thing? [1]
- General: That’s not good. [2]
- General: You mean you don’t know. [3]
1 - General: Are they the same thing? PC: Could they be the same? Could “eluvian” translate into “Well of Sorrows”? Morrigan: No. It seems an eluvian is not the prize Corypheus seeks.
2 - General: That’s not good. PC: You’re not certain? You said you knew what he was looking for! Solas (if present): Confidence can carry one only so far, it seems. Morrigan: I suspected. I did not know
3 - General: You mean you don’t know. PC: You were guessing. Corypheus might not be after this eluvian. It might not even be here!
4 - Scene continues.
Morrigan: Yes, I was wrong! Does that please you? Whatever the Well of Sorrows might be, Corypheus seeks it, and thus you must keep it from his grasp.
PC: Let’s find this Well before Corypheus’s people do.
They proceed further into the courtyard.
PC: I want to know how Corypheus returned to life. We saw him die.
Morrigan: And his life force passes on to any blighted creature, darkspawn or Grey Warden.
Party comments:
- Blackwall (made a Warden): Huh.
- Blackwall (not a Warden): For once, I’m relieved I’m not really a Warden.
- Sera: So how many times do we kill him? It’s a small number, right?
- Vivienne: How do we kill an immortal?
- Dorian: Then Corypheus can’t really die.
- Solas: Then Corypheus cannot die. Destroy his body, and he will assume another.
- Varric: So that’s how the bastard survived Hawke!
Morrigan: Strike Corypheus down, and he will rise anew.
PC (Varric in party): We’ll find a way to stop Corypheus once we’re done here. PC (Varric not in party): We’ll find a way to stop him once we’re done here.
Morrigan: ‘Tis strange. Archdemons possess the same ability, and still the Grey Wardens are able to slay them. Yet Corypheus they locked away. Perhaps they knew he could do this… but not how.
As they take the stairs, they pass by corpses.
Morrigan (sided mages): I see the red templars have already encountered the temple’s guardians. Morrigan (sided templars): I see the Venatori have already encountered the temple’s guardians.
Party Comments:
- Varric (sided mages): You know what? These elves are starting to scare me. Morrigan: The mages trespassed on their sacred ground. Varric: So are we. I’m just saying.
- Cassandra (sided mages): A just death for these mages. But where are their killers? Morrigan: Preparing another display of hospitality, no doubt.
- Dorian (sided mages): Charming. My countrymen don’t make friends easily, do they?
- Iron Bull (sided templars): Looks like an ambush. Impressive work.
- Blackwal (sided templars)l: Those elves lay an impressive ambush. Where are they?
- Sera (sided templars): Anything good on them? Morrigan: Rummage their corpses, by all means.
- Cole (sided templars): They hurt themselves for years to get stronger, but they still die so easily. Morrigan: Perhaps we shall fare better.
They continue exploring.
Morrigan: The Temple of Mythal. Constructed in an age when elves, not men, dominated this land.
Dorian (if in party): Before the Imperium destroyed it.
Morrigan: They believed Mythal a goddess of justice. Elves came here to request judgement. After they proved their worth.
Solas (if in party): Silence has reigned here for time beyond memory.
Sera (if in party): Elves built all this?
The PC approaches a wolf statue and examines it.
Morrigan: Why would this be here?
PC: Something wrong?
Morrigan: It depicts the Dread Wolf, Fen’Harel. In elven tales, he tricks their gods into sealing themselves away in the Beyond for all time. Setting Fen’Harel in Mythal’s greatest sanctum is as blasphemous as painting Andraste naked in the Chantry.
Dialogue options:
- Dalish: My clan had Fen’Harel statues. [5]
- History: Maybe it tells a story. [6]
- General: Sorry, I’m stumped. [7]
- General: You can’t know everything. [8]
- General: There’s a lot we don’t know. [9]
5 - Dalish: My clan had Fen’Harel statues. PC: My clan set statues of the Dread Wolf outside our camp. They’re meant to frighten harmful spirits. Morrigan: Perhaps. I thought the ancient elves above quaint superstitions. [10]
6 - History: Maybe it tells a story. PC: Some chantries display a statue of Andraste’s betrayer Maferath as part of the Chant. Morrigan: It might fulfill a similar function. A reminder of vigilance for the faithful. [10]
7 - General: Sorry, I’m stumped. PC: I’m afraid ancient elven heresy isn’t my specialty. Morrigan: Nor mine. ‘Tis baffling. [10]
8 - General: You can’t know everything. PC: Perhaps someone added Fen’Harel on a whim. Who can say? Morrigan: Human or elven, priests are jealous of their authority. It is difficult to imagine one would allow it. [10]
9 - General: There’s a lot we don’t know. PC: You’re not the final expert on these ancient things. No one can be. Morrigan: There must be some reason behind these mysteries. I refuse to believe we cannot tease them out. [10]
10 - Scene continues.
Morrigan (Solas not in party): Still, so long as the wolf’s jaws cannot close around us, we may pass safely on.
Solas (if in the party): For all your “knowledge,” Lady Morrigan, you cannot resist giving legend the weigh of history. The wise do not mistake one for the other.
Morrigan: Pray tell, what meaning does our elven “expert” sense lurking behind this?
Solas: None we can discern by staring at it.
Dialogue options:
- General: We can study this later. [11]
- General: You’d make such a cute couple. [12]
- General: We should get going. [13]
11 - General: We can study this later. PC: We can send for historians once peace is brought to this forest. Solas: The inhabitants of this temple may not appreciate guests.
12 - General: You’d make such a cute couple. PC: You two look like you’re about to kiss when you argue. Morrigan: ‘Tis time we pressed forward. Solas: Agreed.
13 - General: We should get going. PC: We’ve spent enough time here. Come on. Morrigan: As you say. Let us see what awaits.
They approach the door that leads out of the courtyard.
PC: It’s sealed.
Morrigan: Corypheus’s lackeys managed to open it. Perhaps the alter holds a clue.
The party backtracks to the alter in the center of the room
Morrigan: It appears the temple’s magicks are still strong.
PC (Dalish PC): Ancient elven. I can’t make out much. PC (not Dalish): Is this elven? Does it say anything about this “Well of Sorrows”?
Solas (if in party): “Atish’all Vir Abelasan.” It means “enter the path of the Well of Sorrows.” Morrigan: There is something about knowledge. Respectful or pure. Shiven, shivennen… ’tis all I can translate. That it mentions the Well is a good omen.
Morrigan (Solas not in party): I only recognize a few phrases… Ah! “Abelasan,” meaning “place of sorrow.” That must be the Well.
Dialogue options:
-
General: It’s a start. PC: At least we know the Well of Sorrows was important.
-
General: I wish we had more. PC: We’re out of luck unless one of those temple elves drops a lexicon.
-
General: Doesn’t help us much. PC: Vague translations of “knowledge” and “sorrow” don’t fill me with confidence.
Morrigan: Supplicants to Mythal would have first paid obeisance here. Following their path may aid entry.
Party comments:
- Sera: Oh ho, no. This is bad. Rituals are bad. You can’t want this. Morrigan: If need be. Unless you wish to turn back?
- Cassandra: Perform a ritual to appease elven gods? Long-dead or no, I don’t like it. Morrigan: If need be. Unless you wish to turn back?
- Blackwall: So, good Andrastians, we offer a prayer to elven gods? Morrigan: If need be. Unless you wish to turn back?
- Iron Bull: Not much of a lock if all you do is step on it. Morrigan: ‘Tis a ritual, not a barred door. There is more here than earthly treasure.
*The PC begins the ritual.
If the PC fails the puzzle: Morrigan: Do not step any place you have stepped before. There can be no vacillation. This is where petitioners walked the path of their gods. Solas: It is where they paid fealty to the gods. I have seen it. In the Fade. Only the reverent were permitted to touch the ground, and only in solemn contemplation.
The PC completes the ritual.
PC: There.
Morrigan: Well done. Let us see what awaits.
Vivienne (if in party): After you. I insist.
Giving Chase
The PC enters the next room and is greeted by an explosion. Samson/Calpernia stands nearby.
Samson: Hold them off! Calpernia: Don’t let them pass!
*They leap into the hole they created in the temple floor, leaving the party to fight red templars/Venatori.
PC: Come on. We might catch them
The party approaches the tunnel, but Morrigan stops them and gestures towards a nearby door.
Morrigan: Hold! A moment. While they rush ahead, this leads to our true destination. We should walk the petitioner’s path, as before.
Party Comments:
- Cole: People are dying outside while we stand here. If we use the tunnel, more of our soldiers can flee.
- Iron Bull: You forget that army fighting for us out there? Longer we play around, the more Inquisition soldiers die. There’s a hole–jump in.
- Vivienne: Lady Morrigan was wrong about Corypheus seeking an eluvian. Do we trust her now? While we dally with “rituals,” Inquisition soldiers die outside these walls. Down is swifter.
- Cassandra: An army fights and dies for us. The longer we tarry, the more soldiers we lose outside. Let’s jump down and be done with this place.
- Blackwall: You’ve an army dying out there, Inquisitor. We’re wasting time fiddling with this magic. If jumping down will get us out faster, we should do it.
- Sera: Right. Slow down. Give the baddies a chance. That’s fair and dumb! If we’re going in, let’s get in. Jump already.
- Varric: We’d have to figure it out first, right? While Inquisition soldiers die in the forest? The faster we get out of here, the more people go home.
- Solas: In this case, I must agree with the witch. This is ancient ground, deserving of our respect.
- Dorian: Just a thought: maybe rushing through this place like a mad bull isn’t the best plan?
Morrigan (Solas or Dorian in party): You see the urgency. We cannot find the Well of Sorrows unprepared. Morrigan (neither Solas or Dorian in party): Performing these rituals may mean the difference between reaching the Well before Corypheus’s minions and not at all!
Dialogue options:
- General: Are you certain? [1]
- General: You want the Well, don’t you? [2]
- General: We’re here to stop Corypheus. [3]
1 - General: Are you certain? PC: We don’t know what’s behind those doors. They might have a reason for going another way. Morrigan: Had they the option, they would have proceeded. That must lead to their goal. PC: Their goal? Or yours? [4]
2 - General: You want the Well, don’t you?
PC: You’re very eager to reach our destination.
Morrigan: Are we not all eager to stop Corypheus from achieving his mad plan.
PC: It sounds like what you want is that well. [4]
3 - General: We’re here to stop Corypheus. PC: We don’t need to reach the Well first if we stop them before they find it. Morrigan: Reach the Well before they do, and their plan is ended! PC: And your plan? [4]
4 - Scene continues.
Morrigan: There is… a danger to the natural order. Legends walked Thedas once, things of might and wonder. Their passing has left us all the lesser. Corypheus would squander the ancient power of the Well. I would have it restored.
Dialogue options:
- General: You’re a romantic? [5]
- General: You know nothing about it! [7]
- General: Why should I trust you? [8]
5 - General: You’re a romantic? PC: I wasn’t expecting your answer to be so… romantic. Morrigan: Trust me. Your surprise is matched only by my own. [8]
6 - General: You know nothing about it! PC: You barely know what the Well of Sorrows is, but you want to restore it? Morrigan: Yes! Is Thedas so full of wonders that we should leave them to die one by one? [8]
7 - General: Why should I trust you? PC: I should take your word that this is altruism and not hunger for power? Morrigan: Ah, yes. Far easier to believe the Witch of the Wilds full of greed. [8]
8 - Scene continues:
Morrigan: Mankind blunders through the world, crushing what it does not understand: elves, dragons, magic… the list is endless. We must stem the tide or be left with nothing more than the mundane. This I know to be true. I read more in the first chamber than I revealed. It said a great boon is given to those who use the Well of Sorrows… but at a terrible price.
9 - Dialogue options:
- Investigate: What’s this boon and price? [10]
- General: Why not tell me this earlier? [11]
- General: Of course there’s a price. [12]
- General: Do you want the Well yourself? [13]
10 - Investigate: What’s this boon and price? PC: What exactly did that altar say about the Well of Sorrows? Morrigan: Like most elven writing, it was insufferably vague. The term I deciphered was “halam’shivanas”—“the sweet sacrifice of duty.” It implies the loss of something personal for duty’s sake. Yet for those who served at this temple, a worthwhile trade. [back to 9]
11 - General: Why not tell me this earlier? PC: Did you not trust me enough to tell me about this price when you read it? Morrigan: I hoped to find more information. If I intended to cheat you, I would have feigned ignorance entirely. [14]
12 - General: Of course there’s a price. PC: What sort of curse should we brace ourselves for if we use the Well? Morrigan: ‘Twould be easier by far to advise you of a curse. This price is not so well defined. [14]
13 - General: Do you want the Well yourself? PC: Is your real goal the power inside this Well? Morrigan: Yes, if that is the only way to preserve it! [14]
14 - Scene continues.
Morrigan: My priority is your cause, but if the opportunity arises to save this Well, I am willing to pay the cost.
PC: And gain what?
Morrigan: That is what we must discover. The rituals may point the way.
Path Through the Temple
Morrigan: Will you abandon these rituals, Inquisitor?
Think carefully. There is no return once we leap after the templars. Think carefully. There is no return once we follow the Venatori.
The PC leaps down.
-Solas greatly disapproves
-Dorian disapproves
+Iron Bull slightly approves
+Blackwall slightly approves
+Vivienne slightly approves
+Sera approves
+Cassandra approves
Party Comments:
- Sera: Finally. Let’s find this stupid Well.
- Solas: I suggest we step carefully, Inquisitor.
- Cole: I can hear it. It’s closer down here.
- Dorian: Careful. Whoever did this is waiting.
- Vivienne: Shall we step more lightly now?
- Cassandra: At last. Let’s find this well and go.
- Blackwall: Eyes peeled. I hear something.
They proceed through a door to fight numerous red templars/Venatori as they traverse the labyrinth-like crypts. They find a damaged tunnel.
PC (sided mages): The red templars must have collapsed this. Let’s find another way through.
Party comments (sided templars):
Iron Bull: The Vints didn’t want us getting through. Varric: The Venatori made sure we’re not leaving this way. Blackwall: The Venatori collapsed their path behind them. Cassandra: The Venatori have made sure we cannot follow. Vivienne: The Venatori have collapsed the path behind them. Clever, if a little late. Dorian: It appears the Venatori were tired of us following them. Cole: The Venatori did this. We can’t follow them.
PC: Let’s find another way out.
The PC continues in a different direction until they emerge at the Petitioner’s Chambers.
The PC speaks to Morrigan while solving the first puzzle
Morrigan: An interesting inscription: “Submit to law unyielding.”
PC: “Law unyielding”?
Morrigan: The ancient elves considered Mythal a god of justice.
Morrigan (Solas not in party): Perhaps this was some manner of courtroom? I cannot say.
Solas (if in party): To call it “justice” is simplistic. Mythal was properly invoked by those seeking vengeance.
Morrigan: Oh? Are they truly so different?
Solas: To those who followed her, yes.
After the PC completes one puzzle.
PC: That did something.
Morrigan: Indeed. Time to proceed to the next ritual, I should think.
The PC completes the second puzzle.
PC: There. The ritual is complete. Morrigan: We are close. There is but one more path to follow.
The PC examines the mural of Andruil.
PC: What’s this?
Morrigan: I believe we are in the presence of the elven goddess Andruil, Lady of the Hunt.
Solas (if in party): Or a goddess of sacrifice, according to some. Morrigan: Truly? I wonder if that is why Andruil’s patron animal is the hare.
Morrigan: ‘Tis said the Dalish invoke her before a chase. Especially if they happen to be stalking humans.
Dialogue options:
- Dalish: No, we don’t. [1]
- General: Or defending against them? [2]
- General: (human PC): I hardly feel unsafe. [3]
- General: That’s unsettling. [4]
1 - Dalish: No, we don’t. PC: My clan avoided human settlements, never mind raiding them. Morrigan: A sound tactic. If one has room to maneuver out of harm’s way. Other Dalish clans to not keep so scrupulously hidden. [5]
2 - General: Or defending against them? PC: Humans clash with elves all the time. There’s blood on both sides. Morrigan: I do not favor either. One hears things in Orlesian court. Many Orlesian commanders consider skirmishes against the Dalish excellent sport. [5]
3 - General: I hardly feel unsafe. PC: We’re lucky civilization as we know it is intact. Morrigan: Some admire the Dalish for avoiding the “gifts” of progress for so long. Many Orlesian commanders consider skirmishes against the Dalish excellent sport. [5]
4 - General: That’s unsettling. PC: The Dalish aren’t known for being so bloodthirsty, are they? Morrigan: ‘Tis only what I overheard in the empress’ court. Many Orlesian commanders consider skirmishes against the Dalish excellent sport. [5]
5 - Scene continues.
Morrigan: Very well, let us continue.
The PC approaches mural of Falon’Din
PC: Who is this meant to be?
Morrigan: Falon’Din. Overseer of funerals and guide to the elven dead. I have heard the Dalish invoke him on their deathbed, or before quests from which they expect no return
- Dalish: Some of my clan did that. [6]
- General: Facing death’s never easy. [7]
- General: He’s less than cheery. [8]
- General: That seems ill-omened. [9]
6 - Dalish: Some of my clan did that. PC: My clan’s hunters asked for his blessing when we fought bandits. Our Keeper taught them the prayers. Morrigan (Solas not in party): How different from the one’s sung here, I wonder. [10]
7 - General: Facing death’s never easy. PC: People cling to whatever gives them hope. Morrigan: Perhaps that’s why the Dalish sometimes refer to Falon’Din as “the merciful one.” [10]
8 - General: He’s less than cheery. PC: That’s not the last thing I want to think of on my deathbed. Morrigan: Perhaps it was meant to frighten the elves’ enemies. [10]
9 - General: That seems ill-omened. PC: I’m not sure how a “God of the Dead” inspired good fortune. Morrigan: Perhaps it was meant to frighten the elves’ enemies. [10]
10 - Scene continues
Solas (if in party): I do not believe they sing songs about Falon’Din’s vanity.
Dialogue options:
-
General: Tell me more. PC: Do you know any legends?
-
General: You know something. PC: Go ahead. You must have a legend for us.
-
General: Let’s go. PC: We should move on. [15]
Solas: It is said Falon’Din’s appetite for adulation was so great, he began wars to amass more worshippers. The blood of those wouldn’t bow low filled lakes as wide as oceans. Mythal rallied the gods, once the shadow of Falon’Din’s hunger stretched across her own people. It was almost too late. Falon’Din only surrendered when his brethren bloodied him in his own temple.
Dialogue options:
- Dalish: I’ve never heard that before. [11]
- General: That was… grim. [12]
- General: He sounds mad. [13]
- General: Sounds like he deserved it. [14]
11 - Dalish: I’ve never heard that before. PC: My clan never told a story like that about Falon’Din. Solas: The further the Dalish spread, the further their stories branch and grow. Never mistake them for arbiters of “true” elvhen culture. [15]
12 - General: That was… grim. PC: Did ancient elves believe all their gods so terrifying? Solas: Yes, I believe they did. [15]
13 - General: He sounds mad. PC: No story is dramatic if the people in it act sensibly. Solas: Yes. Most tales pain Falon’Din’s stubbornness second only to his self-regard. [15]
14 - General: Sounds like he deserved it. PC: I’m surprised they let such a monster live. Solas: One does not lightly kill a god, Inquisitor. Even in legend. [15]
15 - Scene continues.
Morrigan: Let us be off then.
The PC completes the final puzzle.
-Cassandra Disapproves -Sera Disapproves -Iron Bull Disapproves (regardless if he is in the party or not) -Blackwall Slightly Disapproves -Vivienne Slightly Disapproves +Solas Approves (regardless if he is in the party or not) +Dorian Approves
PC: Everything is lit.
Party comments:
- Varric: So… what now?
- Sera: So can we go? now?
- Cole (made more spirit): The whispers are louder.
- Cole (made more human/personal quest not completed): It wants to say something, but I can’t hear it.
Morrigan: Come. Let us see if the doors have opened.
Petitioner’s Chambers
The party enters a large room that looks empty. Morrigan turns as they walk.
Morrigan: ‘Tis not what I expected. What was this chamber used for… Hmm.
A number of Sentinel appear behind them in a flash of smoke.
PC: We’re being watched.
As they continue into the chamber, an elf walks out on the dias.
Abelas: Venavis. You… are unlike the other invaders.
Abelas (Solas in party): You stumble down our paths at the side of one of our own. Abelas (Sera in party): You stumble down our paths alongside elvhen, or at least those having our features. Abelas (Dalish PC): You have the features of those who call themselves elvhen.
Abelas: You bear the mark of magic which is… familiar. How has this come to pass? What is your connection to those who first disturbed our slumber?
Dialogue options:
- General: They are my enemies. PC: They are my enemies, as well as yours. ㅤㅤ ㅤ ㅤ
- General: “Our slumber”? PC: I don’t understand the “slumber” bit. Who are you? ㅤㅤ ㅤ ㅤ
- General: First tell me who you are. PC: I won’t be interrogated at sword point. Declare yourself.
Abelas: I am called Abelas. We are Sentinels, tasked with standing against those who trespass on sacred ground. We wake only to fight, to preserve this place. Our numbers diminish with each invasion. I know what you seek. Like all who have come before, you wish to drink from the vir’abelasan.
Morrigan: “The Place of the Way of Sorrows.” He speaks of the Well!
Abelas: It is not for you. It is not for any of you.
1 - Dialogue options:
- Investigate: You’re actual ancient elves? [2]
- Investigate: What is the Well? [3]
- Special: Solas, talk to him. [4]
- Special (Dalish PC): The elves need you! [5]
- General: We mean you no harm. [6]
- General: That Well could be useful. [7]
- General: We came to stop Corypheus. [8]
2 - Investigate: You’re actual ancient elves? PC: So… you’re elves from ancient times? Before the Tevinter Imperium destroyed Arlathan?
Abelas (Dorian not in party): The shemlen did not destroy Arlathan. We elvhen warred upon ourselves. By the time the doors to this sanctuary closed, our time was over. We awaken only when called, and each time find the world more foreign than before. It is meaningless. We endure. The vir’abelasan must be preserved. [back to 1]
Abelas (Dorian in party): The shemlen did not destroy Arlathan. We elven warred upon ourselves. By the time the doors to this sanctuary closed, our time was over. Dorian: Wait… that’s not right. What are you saying? Abelas: You would not know truth. Shemlen history is as short as the pool of your years. Dorian: What did the Imperium do, then? Are you saying it wasn’t a war? Abelas: The “war” of carrion feasting upon a corpse, yes. We awaken only when called, and each time find the world more foreign than before. It is meaningless. We endure. The vir’abelasan must be preserved. [back to 1]
3 - Investigate: What is the Well? PC: What is this vir’abelasan, exactly? Abelas: It is a path, one walked only by those who toiled in Mythal’s favor. Morrigan: He speaks of priests, perhaps? Abelas: More than that you need not know. [back to 1]
4 - Special: Solas, talk to him. PC: Solas, perhaps he’ll listen to you. Solas: What shall I say, Inquisitor? Shall I sway him from a millennia of service by virtue of our shared blood? He clings to all that remains of his world, because he lacks the power to restore it. [back to 1]
5 - Special: The elves need you! PC: Our people have lost everything. They need you. They could learn from you! Abelas: “Our” people? The ones we see in the forest, shadows wearing vallaslin? You are not my people. And you have invaded our sanctum as readily as the shemlen. PC (completed rituals): We knew this place was sacred. We’ve respected it as best we could. Abelas: I believe you. PC (did not complete rituals): We came to stop them. Abelas: I do not believe you.
6 - General: We mean you no harm. PC: We did not come here to fight you, nor to steal from your temple. Abelas (completed rituals): I believe you. Abelas (did not complete rituals): I do not believe you.
7 - General: That Well could be useful. PC: If the Well of Sorrows is a source of power, now is when it’s needed. Abelas: It is not power. Not such as you could use, even if I permitted it. PC: Yet Corypheus’s minions are here to claim it. Unless you’ve defeated them already. Abelas (completed rituals): We have not. Abelas (did not complete rituals): We shall fight them as we shall fight you.
8 - General: We came to stop Corypheus. PC: We came to stop Corypheus. He’s here to take your well, not I. Abelas (completed rituals): I believe you. Abelas (did not complete rituals): I do not believe you.
9 - Scene continues.
Choice dependent dialogue:

10 - Completed rituals
Abelas: Trespassers you are, but you have followed rites of petition. You have shown respect to Mythal. If these others are enemies of yours, we will aid you in destroying them. When this is done, you shall be permitted to depart… and never return.
Party comments:
- Solas: This is our goal, is it not? There is no reason to fight these Sentinels.
- Sera: So they can stab us in the back afterwards? Stuff that.
- Dorian: I’ll admit, the idea of fighting the last of their kind… does not thrill me.
- Cassandra: I do not trust them. We know not what they’ll do once the battle is over.
Morrigan: Consider carefully. You must stop Corypheus, yes, but you may also need the Well for your own.
- We will ally. (Accept the Sentinel elves’ bargain.) [12]
- I don’t trust them. (Refuse the Sentinel’s offer) [13]
- We may need that well. (Refuse the Sentinel’s offer) [14]
12 - We will ally. PC: I accept your offer. Abelas: You will be guided to those you seek. As for the vir’abelasan… it shall not be despoiled, even if I must destroy it myself. [15]
13 - I don’t trust them. PC: I refuse. Abelas: As you wish. Our duty is clear. [11]
14 - We may need that well. PC: I refuse. Abelas: As you wish. Our duty is clear. [11]
15 - Scene continues.
Abelas leaves.
Morrigan: No!
Morrigan turns into a raven and gives chase to Abelas.
PC: Morrigan!
Party comments:
- Dorian (if in party and asked about ancient elves): He said the elves destroyed themselves, before my countrymen came along. Could that be true? I can hardly believe it.
- Dorian (if in party and didn’t ask about ancient elves): One stayed behind. Our guide, I suppose?
- Varric: They left someone behind. A handy guide, maybe?
- PC: This would be our guide?
Sentinel: Mythal’enaste.
PC: That’s helpful, since Morrigan chased off on her own.
Party comments:
- Vivienne: Dear Morrigan left to use the Well herself, undoubtedly.
- Solas: She seeks to protect the Well of Sorrows.
- Cassandra: She’s worried about this Well, not Corypheus.
- Cole: She turned into a bird!
They follow the guide down a twisting hallway into the vaults.
PC: This place looks untouched.
Party comments:
- Iron Bull: You have any idea how much this place is worth? Solas: We did not come to cart off the last of elvhen glory. Iron Bull: I’m just saying!
PC: Don’t let Solas hear you say that. Iron Bull: Admit it. You were wondering.
-
Cassandra: The entire temple must have looked like this long ago. How could the elves pour such devotion into this… nonsense? Solas: We can always ask our hosts. Cassandra: I will leave that to you.
-
Blackwall: I’ve seen Orlesian palaces with less gold. What did the ancient elves do here? Solas: Perhaps it was meant to kindle a sense of awe in visitors.
They continue through the halls.
Sentinel: Penshra! Ghilas vellathan!
Party comments:
- Solas: I believe she would prefer that we remain close.
- Varric: I think she wants us to go back?
- Cassandra: She wants us to stay close.
PC: Just a quick look around.
They hear the sentinels fighting Venatori/red templars.
PC (sided templars): The Sentinels are holding against the Venatori. PC (sided mages): The Sentinels are holding off the red templars.
Party comments:
- Solas: We should hurry. Their numbers are not endless.
- Dorian: Count your blessings we’re not still fighting both at the same time.
- Vivienne: How tragic. Our elven friends might exhaust themselves here.
- Varric: Glad we’re not between them.
- Sera: Good for something, I guess. If they keep it up.
- Solas: Abelas gave us his word. Sera: Well, good for Dusty-Butt.
- Cole: They’re dying. Faster than they wanted to.
The sentinel continues to guide them down hallways and up stairs.
Sentinel: Vir sumeil.
PC (Dalish): I’ve never heard that phrase. Can anyone translate? PC (non-Dalish): Can anyone translate?
Solas: “We are close.” Ma serannas, ghilan.
Sera (Solas not in party): I’ll try. (Clears her throat.) Can. You. Talk. Like. Us! Sentinel: Delltash! PC: Never mind.
The PC exits the vaults. Scene ends.
11 - Did not complete rituals:
Abelas: Our duty is clear. The vir’abelasan shall not be usurped… even if I must destroy it. Masal din’an.
Abelas leaves.
Morrigan: No!
Morrigan turns into a raven and gives chase to Abelas.
PC: Morrigan!
The Sentinels attack, and the party fights.
Party Comments:
- Vivienne: Stop their mages!
- Dorian: Watch out for the mages!
- Solas: They have mages!
- Cassandra: Careful! Their assassins disappear!
- Iron Bull: Watch the assassins!
- Blackwall: Careful! The have assassins!
- Varric: Watch the archers!
- Sera: Archers, yeah! Pointy shits!
- Cole: Archers! Be careful!
Party comments:
Solas (if in party): That was unnecessary. A pointless waste of life.
Dialogue options:
- General: I agree. [16]
- General (completed rituals but did not ally): What else could we do? [17]
- General: What else could we do? [18]
- General: This was their fault. [19]
- Don’t respond. [20]
16 - General: I agree. PC: Such a waste. To live through eternity, only to end up like that… Solas: Then perhaps you should have agreed to his deal. Solas: Then perhaps you should have done the rituals, instead of blundering after the magisters.
17 - General: What else could we do? PC: I should have trusted his so-called deal? Solas: Why not? Did he not seem honorable? PC: He’s a guardian, trying to eliminate one group of invaders before the next. Solas: You don’t know that. [21]
18 - General: What else could we do? PC: Were we supposed to lie down and die for those elves? Solas: If we’d completed the rituals, perhaps the Sentinels would have been open to discussion. PC: Would you risk our lives on it? Solas: (Sighs.) No. I would not. [21]
19 - General: This was their fault. PC: I didn’t make them attack, Solas. They’re the ones clinging to their pointless duty. Solas: Pointless, is it? This is their land, not yours. PC: We had to come to stop Corypheus. You followed me here! Solas: (Sighs.) Yes. So I did. [21]
20 - Don’t respond Solas: (Sighs.) I should have known.
21 - Scene continues.
Party comments:
- Dorian (if in party and asked about ancient elves): He said the elves destroyed themselves, before my countrymen came along. Could that be true? I can hardly believe it.
- Dorian (if in party and didn’t ask about ancient elves): How many centuries have they guarded this place? Only to be gutted for no good reason.
- Blackwall: I thought ancient beings were supposed to be wise.
- Cole: Sleep, protect, serve. So little of them left, but still they were afraid to lose it.
- Dorian: How many centuries have they guarded this place? Only to be gutted for no good reason. / Dorian: He said the elves destroyed themselves, before my countrymen came along. Could that be true? I can hardly believe it.
- Iron Bull: Apparently humans aren’t the only stubborn fools on this continent.
- Sera: Pfft! How old could they be if they died so stupid? Right?
The party heads through the vaults, fighting sentinels and Venatori/red templars as they go.
PC: This place is like a maze.
Party comments:
Sera: Elfy-elves didn’t want normal people near their precious Well. Vivienne: Is is a maze. This Well of Sorrows was clearly not for the common man. Varric: You surprised? This temple doesn’t exactly roll out welcome mats. Cassandra: Be ready. These elven Sentinels will know every turn. Iron Bull: There better be something good at the end of this. Cole: Can you hear that ahead? People whispering? Dorian: Let’s follow the sound of the fighting. That usually works for us.
The party exits the door at the end of the vault.
Confrontation
The party enters a large open area full of trees and greenery. The Well of Sorrows is visible in the distance.
PC: The Well of Sorrows!
Party Comments:
- Vivienne: Finally!
- Blackwall: Maker’s balls!
- Solas: So Mythal endures.
- Cole: It’s loud. And so cold.
- Cassandra: Andraste guide us.
- Iron Bull: That’s… something.
- Dorian: How has such magic lasted?
The proceed down the stairs to the chamber floor.
Calpernia: I want them dead before the Master arrives!
Magister: Caltora virethen!
Calpernia: I will swim if I must! The Well demands a vessel!
Venatori kill the remaining sentinels in the room. Calpernia guestures towards the Well, reaching for it.
Calpernia: So close. The Well knows its Vessel…
The party runs in.
Calpernia: … and those who would despoil it. (Sighs.) Stand aside, Inquisitor.
Choice dependent dialogue:
- Completed Under Her Skin [1]
- Did not complete Under Her Skin [2]
1 - Completed Under Her Skin
Calpernia: The trials you set me, I have overcome. As a courtesy—leave now, or not at all.
Dialogue options:
- General: We need to talk. [3]
- General: It’s a little late for that. [4]
- General: You’ve been duped. [5]
3 - General: We need to talk. PC: No, Calpernia. We have things to discuss. Calpernia: True. I did not think you so civilized. [6]
4 - General: It’s a little late for that. PC: Do you truly believe we can dismiss our armies with a handshake, Calpernia? Calpernia: What I offer may be their only chance to survive. [6]
5 - General: You’ve been duped. PC: Your lust for power has blinded you, Calpernia. Corypheus is using you. Calpernia: Think on your own folly, before inventing more. [6]
6 - Scene continues.
Calpernia: You serve your people—you have one last chance to save them. The Well of Sorrows overflows with knowledge, power abandoned by those the elves worshipped as gods. To walk the Fade without the Anchor–that is what the Well of Sorrows will give Corypheus.
Dialogue options:
- General: That will end in disaster! [7]
- General: Why are you the Vessel? [8]
- General: Not if I take the Well first. [9]
7 - General: That will end in disaster! PC: Why would Corypheus think entering the Fade will work any better than last time? Calpernia: Speech without understanding. [10]
8 - General: Why are you the Vessel? PC: If that’s the case, why isn’t Corypheus clawing at the Well? Calpernia: I will carry it, like a jug brimming, for his use. Can you not see? [10]
9 - General: Not if I take the Well first. PC: So if I take that power before him, Corypheus will be left empty-handed. Calpernia: Simple fool. [10]
10 - Scene continues.
Calpernia: I knew you would take the Well for yourself, to ransack its wisdom to try to defeat Corypheus. But you’d still be just a child, playing with a sword. Corypheus will wield it as a master.
Dialogue options:
- General: I’d rather just kill you. [11]
- General: Corypheus plans to bind you. [12]
11 - General: I’d rather just kill you. PC: You’re not getting the Well while one of us still breathes. [23]
12 - General: Corypheus plans to bind you. PC: Once you’ve drunk from the Well, Corypheus will use a ritual on you. You’ll be a mindless tool, enslaved to his will.
Calpernia: That… where I come from, idle tales must be proven.
PC: Here, the page with his binding ritual. He tried it on your master, Erasthenes.
Calpernia: How could you know… ? And these runes. No one has written in these since… He made so many promises. And every one, a lie! Venhedis kaffan vas!
Calpernia: He was to give Tevinter a true leader! If Corypheus would misuse me, he’d misuse them too. I was blind!
13 - Dialogue options:
- Investigate: You did this for Tevinter? [14]
- General: Then rebuild Tevinter. [15]
- General: I still have to destroy you. [16]
14 - Investigate: You did this for Tevinter? PC: That’s why you joined Corypheus? To see Tevinter rebuilt? Calpernia: To see her reborn. Slaves allowed their true potential. Corruption excised. Tevinter was the cradle of civilization. Imagine what her future could be. A crafter of wonders, standing against the savage Qunari. A beacon for all. [back to 13]
15 - General: Then rebuild Tevinter PC: Perhaps Tevinter does need a strong leader. Be that woman, while you still can.
Calpernia: You mock me, Inquisitor. As if you’d let me walk away.
Party comments:
- Cassandra: The Inquisitor is showing you great mercy, mage. Do no waste it.
- Dorian: It’s a good idea. Maker knows we could use a reformer or ten back home.
- Vivienne: Our Inquisitor rarely makes idle offers, darling. I encourage you to take it.
PC: If that’s your wish, I won’t stop you.
Calpernia: If Corypheus triumphs… listen. If any power can challenge him, it lies in the Well. Perhaps its price is too high. But if you can take it… humble him. Vitae benefaria, Inquisitor. Do not follow us. I will give you some time. I go to confront my master. Then I will return to Tevinter… if there is anything left of me.
The Venatori and Calpernia leave.
Scene ends.
14 - General: I still have to destroy you. PC: You know the truth of Corypheus’s betrayal. You’ll die knowing it. Calpernia: Come, then. One last sacrifice! [23]
2 - Did not complete Under Her Skin
PC: And you are–?
Calpernia: I’m called Calpernia. But when I partake of the Well, names will be meaningless. Leave. This is not your time.
Dialogue options:
- General: Stop. Too many have died. [15]
- General: Me? You blasted in here! [16]
- General: You’re not getting the Well. [17]
15 - General: Stop. Too many have died. PC: Your hunt for the Well claimed, elves, templars, your mages–it has to end. Calpernia: Perhaps you see further than I thought. [18]
16 - General: Me? You blasted in here! PC: I might have taken you seriously if you hadn’t blown a path through the temple. Calpernia: Any force that might have cared is dust and ashes. [18]
17 - General: You’re not getting the Well. PC: Take one step toward that Well, and I’ll finish you. [18]
18 - Scene continues.
Calpernia: You serve your people–you have one last chance to save them. The Well of Sorrows overflows with knowledge, power abandoned by those the elves worshipped as gods. To walk the Fade without the Anchor–that is what the Well of Sorrows will give Corypheus.
Dialogue options:
- General: That will end in disaster! [19]
- General: Why are you the Vessel? [20]
- General: Not if I take the Well first. [21]
19 - General: That will end in disaster! PC: Why would Corypheus think entering the Fade will work any better than last time? Calpernia: Speech without understanding. [22]
20 - General: Why are you the Vessel? PC: If that’s the case, why isn’t Corypheus clawing at the Well Calpernia: I will carry it, like a jug brimming, for his use. Can you not see? [22]
21 - General: Not if I take the Well first. PC: So if I take that power before him, Corypheus will be left empty-handed. Calpernia: Simple fool. [22]
22 - Scene continues.
Calpernia: I knew you would take the Well for yourself, to ransack its wisdom to try to defeat Corypheus. Come, then. One last sacrifice! [23]
23 - Scene continues.
The party fights Calpernia, the Venatori, and elvhen sentinels.
Calpernia: Stop them! Calpernia: Do not let them pass!
Calpernia: You should have fallen with Haven! Calpernia: Burn! Calpernia: You will be naught but ashes! Calpernia: To the Void with you!
Calpernia summons some demons into the fray.
Calpernia: Come forth! Calpernia: To my side!
If the PC dies: Calpernia: You should have surrendered, Adaar! Calpernia: You cannot win, Lavellan! Calpernia: You never should have come here, Trevelyan! Calpernia: It ends here, Cadash!
When Calpernia’s health gets low: Calpernia: No! (Coughs.) No!
The party defeats her. As they approach, Calpernia fade steps away.
Calpernia: If I fall, it will not be by your hand.
She escapes, throwing herself down the waterfall and into the depths below.
(The game file is titled “Escape”, unlike Samson’s file which is named “Defeat.” Make of that what you will!)
The party enters a large open area full of trees and greenery. The Well of Sorrows is visible in the distance.*
Samson: Fight on! An army of these bastards won’t stop us!
Red Templar: How will you get to the Well, General?
Samson: Tell me you brought some damned rope!
Red templars and sentinels fight on the chamber floor. When they’re defeated, Samson approaches his men.
Samson: You tough bastards–a day’s march, hours of fighting and still fierce as dragons. The Chantry never knew what it was throwing away.
Red Templar: Samson! Ser–watch out!
The PC runs up.
Samson (allied with the sentinels): Inquisitor. You and those elf-things don’t know when to stop. Samson (did not ally): Inquisitor. You’ve got a damned long reach.

1 - Completed Before the Dawn
Samson: You’ve hunted us half across Thedas. I should’ve guessed you’d follow us into this hole.
Dialogue options:
- General: Maddox is dead. [3]
- General: It’s over, Samson. Surrender. [4]
- General: Why are you here? [5]
3 - General: Maddox is dead. PC: I spoke with your Tranquil, Maddox. He sacrificed himself for your cause. Samson: I told him not to… He died as one of us, then. One of the faithful. [9]
4 - General: It’s over, Samson. Surrender. PC: Your reserves are gone. So is the lyrium. Isn’t it time to stand down? Samson: To enjoy the mercy you showed our brothers and sisters? No, thanks. [9]
5 - General: Why are you here? PC: What are you doing here, Samson? Samson: Following his orders. [9]
2 - Did not complete Before the Dawn
Samson: We come to the back end of nowhere, and here you are.
Dialogue options:
- General: I didn’t come for you. [6]
- General: I like to travel. [7]
- General: Why are you here? [8]
6 - General: I didn’t come for you. PC: You and your red templars weren’t my concern, not until now. Samson: You keep getting in over your head, don’t you? [9]
7 - General: I like to travel. PC: Leading the Inquisition takes me to all sorts of interesting places. Samson: You came too far this time. [9]
8 - General: Why are you here? PC: What are you doing here, Samson? Samson: Following his orders. [9]
9 - Scene continues.
Samson: Corypheus chose me twice. First as his general, now as the Vessel for the Well of Sorrows. You know what’s inside the Well? Wisdom. The kind of wisdom that can scour a world. I give it to Corypheus, and he can walk into the Fade without your precious Anchor.
10 - Dialogue options:
- Investigate: You’re a “Vessel”? [11]
- General: He’ll cast you aside. [12]
- General: That’s insane! [13]
- General: He’s not getting the Well. [14]
11 - Investigate: You’re a “Vessel”? PC: What’s your part in it? What’s a “Vessel”? Samson: What else empties a well? I’ll carry its power to Corypheus. One more task entrusted to me. Being force-fed Chantry lyrium was good for something. This armor makes me a living fortress–mind and body. I won’t forget a word of the Well’s knowledge. Corypheus will be unstoppable. [back to 10]
12 - General: He’ll cast you aside. PC: Once Corypheus is that powerful, you and your soldiers will just slow him down. Samson: You dare say that to my face? After you butchered my men? [15]
13 - General: That’s insane! PC: Corypheus already caused one disaster. Help him now, and he’ll rip the world apart! Samson: I’m helping him reshape it! He’s had centuries to make ready. [15]
14 - General: He’s not getting the Well. PC: I’ll see Corypheus dead before I let him wield that power. Samson: How are you going to stop him? [15]
15 - Scene continues.
Samson: You’re no match for Corypheus. Even if you drink from the Well, you’ll never master its wisdom as he could. This is the strength the Chantry tried to bind. But it’s a new world now. With a new god.
Samson (did not complete Before the Dawn): I will bring Corypheus the Well’s power and your head, all at once. To arms! [18]
Samson (completed Before the Dawn): So, Inquisitor. How will this go?
Dialogue options:
- General: Quick and painful. [16]
- General: [Destroy his armor.] (17) +Sera Approves
16 - General: Quick and painful. PC: Let’s see if you’re the general they believe in. Samson: To arms!
17 - General: [Destroy his armor.] PC: Power’s all well and good. Until it’s taken away. The PC holds up the rune Dagna created. Samson: (Screams.) What did you do? What did you do? My armor. It’s gone. The lyrium–I need it! Kill them all!
18 - Scene continues.
The party fight Samson and his men.
Samson: Take them! Samson: Watch your flanks! Samson: Get around them!
Samson: I’ll show you bastards! Samson: You think you’ll win? Samson: Get away from me!
Samson: There we are! Samson: Ha! Come on then! Samson: This has to do it.
Samson: You’re nothing! Samson: There’s no mountain to save you now! Samson: You will fall! Samson: You can’t run!
Samson: No! You’ll pay for that! Samson: Those were my men!
Samson: Nowhere to hide, Trevelyan! Samson: You die here, Lavellan! Samson: It ends here, Cadash! Samson: It ends here, Adaar!
When Samson’s health is low: Samson: (Pained groan.) No… you can’t…
The party defeates Samson and his templars.
Samson: Not the Well, you wretch. You can’t take it from Corypheus. You mustn’t… (Grunts.)
He falls unconscious.
Party Comments:
- Cassandra: He’s still breathing.
- Cole: He’s not ready to go yet.
- Varric: Still alive? That’s some damned good armor.
- Blackwall: Still breathing after all that. Impressive.
- PC (if no one comments): Still alive. He’s tough.
PC: We can take him back to Skyhold for judgement.
Abelas
Abelas runs up stairs as they magically appear with Morrigan giving chase.
PC: Abelas!
Morrigan shapeshifts back human between Abelas and the Well. The PC runs up behind them.
Morrigan: You heard his parting words, Inquisitor. The elf seeks to destroy the Well of Sorrows!
Abelas: So the sanctum is despoiled at last.
Morrigan: You would have destroyed the Well yourself, given the chance.
Abelas: To keep it from your grasping fingers! Better it be lost than bestowed upon the undeserving!
Morrigan: Fool! You’d let your people’s legacy rot in the shadows!
Dialogue options:
- General: Back off, Morrigan. [1]
- General: We need that well. [2]
- General (sided mages): We stopped Samson. We’re done. [3]
- General (sided templars): Calpernia is gone. We’re done. [4]
1 - General: Back off, Morrigan. PC: Enough. Morrigan: You cannot honestly– PC: I said, enough. [5]
2 - General: We need that well. PC (sided templars): Calpernia thought the Well’s knowledge was powerful. It could help stop Corypheus. PC (sided mages): Samson thought the Well’s knowledge was valuable. It could help stop Corypheus. Abelas: I care nothing for your petty conflicts, shemlen. PC: You’ll care when Corypheus arrives for the Well. [5]
3 - General: We stopped Samson. We’re done. PC: Corypheus needed Samson to use the Well. Without him, there’s no “Vessel” to claim it. Morrigan: The moment we leave, he will send more forces to secure this place. [5]
4 - General: Calpernia is gone. We’re done. PC: Corypheus needed Calpernia to use the Well. Without her, there’s no “Vessel” to claim it. Morrigan: The moment we leave, he will send more forces to secure this place. [5]
5 - Scene continues.
Morrigan: The Well clearly offers power, Inquisitor. If that power can be turned against Corypheus, can you afford not to use it?
Abelas: Do you even know what you ask? As each servant of Mythal reached the end of their years, they would pass their knowledge on… through this. All that we were. All that we knew. It would be lost forever.
Dialogue options:
- General: I’m sorry. [6]
- General: So it stays locked away? [7]
- General: It is lost already. [8]
6 - General: I’m sorry. PC: his can’t be easy, holding on to what’s left. Abelas: You cannot imagine. Each time we awaken, it slips further from our grasp. [9]
7 - General: So it stays locked away? PC: It’s better that knowledge remain in the Well, never passed on? You’d rather destroy it? [9]
8 - General: It is lost already. PC: Look around you. Everything your people were… it’s already gone. Abelas: It is. [9]
9 - Scene continues.
Solas (if in party): There are other places, friend. Other duties. Your people yet linger. Abelas: Elvhen such as you? Solas: Yes. Such as I.
Morrigan (Solas not in party): Why remain? Why perform a duty without purpose?
Choice dependent dialogue:

Abelas: You have shown respect to Mythal, and there is a righteousness in you I cannot deny. Is that your desire? To partake of the vir’abelasan as best you can, to fight your enemy?
Dialogue options:
- General: If you’ll allow it. [12]
- General: What of the price? [13]
- General: If it will help. [14]
12 - General: If you’ll allow it. PC: Not without your permission. Abelas: One does not obtain permission. One obtains the right. [15]
13 - General: What of the price? PC: Gifts like this don’t come freely. Abelas: No boon of Mythal was ever granted without cost. [15]
14 - General: If it will help. PC: I’ll take anything that might help against Corypheus. No matter the price. Abelas: So I see. [15]
15 - Scene continues.
Abelas: The vir’abelasan may be too much for a mortal to comprehend. Brave it if you must, but know you this: you shall be bound forever to the will of Mythal.
Morrigan: Bound? To a goddess who no longer exists, if she ever did?
Abelas: Bound, as we are bound. The choice is yours.
16 - Dialogue options:
- Investigate: What happened to Mythal? [17]
- Investigate: Where will you go? [18]
- General: Thank you. [19]
- General: That’s it? No more duty? [20]
- General: Fight Corypheus with us. [21]
17 - Investigate: What happened to Mythal? PC: Is it possible this Mythal might still exist? Abelas: Anything is possible. Morrigan: Elven legend states that Mythal was tricked by Fen’Harel and banished to the Beyond. Abelas: “Elven” legend is wrong. The Dread Wolf had nothing to do with her murder. Morrigan: Murder? I said nothing of– Abelas: She was slain, if a god truly can be. Betrayed by those who destroyed this temple. Yet the vir’abelasan remains. As do we. That is something. [back to 16]
18 - Investigate: Where will you go? PC: Are you leaving the temple? Abelas: Our duty ends. Why remain?
Solas (if in party): There is a place for you, lethallin… if you seek it. Abelas: Perhaps there are places the shemlen have not touched.
Dorian (if in party): The Imperium went to great lengths to expunge elven history. You might be the last to know the truth. Abelas: Would the “elves” of your lands listen to the truth? Sera (if in party): No elfy elf will believe it. What’ll they cry about if their glory wasn’t stolen? Pfft. Big loss. Dorian (Sera not in party): They might. Would it hurt to try? Abelas: It very well may, shemlen. Yes.
Abelas: It may be that only uthenera awaits us. The blissful sleep of eternity, never to awaken. If fate is kind. [back to 16]
19 - General: Thank you. PC: Thank you for this gift, Abelas. Abelas: Do not thank me yet, shemlen.
20 - General: That’s it? No more duty? PC: You can walk away from the temple? Just like that? Abelas: After you drink, nothing remains to hold us.
21 - General: Fight Corypheus with us. PC: You could come with us. Fight Corypheus. He killed your people. Abelas: We killed ourselves, long ago.
22 - Scene continues.
Solas (if in party): Malas amelin ne halam, Abelas. Abelas looks at him before leaving. Solas: His name. Abelas means sorrow. I said… I hoped he finds a new name.
Scene ends.
11 - Did not complete rituals
Abelas: Our duty is all that remains. Those who drank from the vir’abelasan paid a great price, bound to the service of Mythal for eternity.
PC: You claim Mythal was truly a god?
Abelas: To you… it shall make no difference.
Abelas knocks them back with magic and begins to destroy the well. Morrigan appears behind him.
Abelas: Mythal sulevin.
Abelas falls, dead.
Morrigan: Stubborn fool.
Party comments:
- Solas: He was defending all that was left of what once was. Morrigan: And would have happily buried us in the process. ㅤㅤ ㅤ
- Dorian: What would you have done, backed into a corner? Morrigan: And what if the Well was destroyed? Or this entire temple? Are you so eager to die for sympathy’s sake? ㅤㅤ ㅤ
- Varric: You don’t think maybe we were the bad guys? Morrigan: And what if the Well was destroyed? Or this entire temple? Are you so eager to die for sympathy’s sake? ㅤㅤ ㅤ
- Cole: I’m sorry. Morrigan: Do not grieve for them, little man.
Morrigan (if no one comments): The last of their kind, and this is what it comes to.
Dialogue options:
- Pleased: Well done. [23]
- Stoic: Nothing we can do now. [24]
- Mad: I didn’t tell you to kill him! [25]
- Sad: This was wrong. [26]
23 - Pleased: Well done. PC: I’m glad you had the presence of mind to stop him. Morrigan: He was a slave to duty, when he could have been so much more. [27]
24 - Stoic: Nothing we can do now. PC: (Sighs.) Well, it’s done. Morrigan: That it is. [27]
25 - Mad: I didn’t tell you to kill him! PC: The decision to kill Abelas was mine, Morrigan. Not yours. Morrigan: The elf nearly brought the walls down upon us! I did what had to be done to save something far more valuable. [27]
26 - Sad: This was wrong. PC: There must have been some other way. Morrigan: Corypheus forced the elf’s hand, and ours. Blame him, if you must. [27]
27 - Scene ends.
The Well of Sorrows
Morrigan and the PC look over the Well of Sorrows and at the eluvian on the other side.
Morrigan: You’ll note the intact eluvian. I was correct on that count, at least.
PC: Is it still a threat? Can Corypheus use it to travel the Fade?
Morrigan: You recall when I took you through my eluvian, I said each required a key? The Well is the key. Take its power, and Mythal’s last eluvian will be no more use to Corypheus than glass. I did not expect the Well to feel so… hungry.
Dialogue options:
- General: Be careful. [1]
- General: That’s not good. [2]
- General: Back away. Now. [3]
1 - General: Be careful. PC: Let’s not be reckless. I don’t want anyone hurt.
2 - General: That’s not good. PC: Seems like that should be a concern. Morrigan: Knowledge begets a hunger for more.
3 - General: Back away. Now. PC: Don’t go any closer, Morrigan.
Morrigan: I am willing to pay the price the Well demands. I am also the best suited to use its knowledge in your service.
Party Comments:
- Solas: Or more likely, to your own ends. Morrigan: What would you know of my “ends,” elf? Solas: You are a glutton drooling at the sight of a feast. You cannot be trusted. ㅤㅤ ㅤ
- Vivienne: Do not trust her, Inquisitor. She’s a parasite, only here because she sensed a meal more hearty than you. Morrigan: Hm. Said by one whose only motive for joining the Inquisition was altruism. Vivienne: Is is altruism or sense not to plunge headfirst into a power you don’t remotely understand? Morrigan: Why should I be refused, when the reasons to allow it are sound? ㅤㅤ ㅤ
- Cassandra: I do not like this. She is far too eager. Morrigan: I do not hide it. To restore lost knowledge, I would risk much. Cassandra: And what would you do with it? You could be worse than Corypheus. Morrigan: So paralyze yourself for fear of what might be? I can give nothing but my word.
Morrigan: Of those present, I alone have the training to make use of this. Let me drink, Inquisitor.
4 - Dialogue options
- Investigate: You alone have the training? [5]
- Investigate: What about the price? [6]
- General: You really want this? [7]
- General: Perhaps nobody should use it. [8] +Sera approves
- General: How can I trust you? [9]
5- Investigate: You alone have the training? PC (Dalish): “You alone”? This is my heritage! PC (non-Dalish mage): “You alone”? You’re not the only mage here. PC (non-Dalish, non-mage): What “training” makes you so qualified? Morrigan: I have studied the oldest lore. I have delved into mysteries of which you could only dream! Can you honestly tell me there is anyone better suited?
10 - Dialogue options:
- General: Solas? [11]
- General: Vivienne? [12]
- General: Dorian? [13]
- General: Myself./Then it’s me. [14]
- General: I don’t know. [15]
- General (after suggesting another companion): Maybe Morrigan is right. [16]
11 - General: Solas? PC: What about you, Solas? Solas: No. Do not ask me again. [back to 10] ㅤㅤ ㅤ 12 - General: Vivienne? PC: What about you, Vivienne? Vivienne: If anyone, it should be you. The mark on your hand may protect you. [back to 10] ㅤㅤ ㅤ 13 - General: Dorian? PC: What about you, Dorian? Dorian: A human from Tevinter scoops up the last bits of elven knowledge? I know why you ask. I know it’s important, but… I can’t be that man. [back to 10] ㅤㅤ ㅤ 14 - General: Myself./Then it’s me. PC: I would be. Morrigan: You lead the Inquisition. This is not a risk you can take. I have the best chance of making use of the Well… for everyone. Let me drink. [back to 4] ㅤㅤ ㅤ 15 - General: I don’t know. PC: I don’t know who’s “better suited,” and neither do you. Morrigan: I have the best chance of making use of the Well… for everyone. Let me drink. [back to 4] ㅤㅤ ㅤ 16 - General: Maybe Morrigan is right. PC: Perhaps you’re right. Morrigan: I am. You know I am. [back to 4]
6 - Investigate: What about the price? PC: You’re not concerned about the price? “Bound forever to the will of Mythal”? Morrigan: Bound to the will of a dead god? It seems an empty warning. Perhaps a compulsion yet remains. Who can say otherwise? I do not fear it, even so. [back to 4]
7 - General: You really want this? PC: Are you sure you want this, Morrigan? We don’t know what will happen. Morrigan: We do not, and yet it must be done. I am ready.
8 - General: Perhaps nobody should use it. PC: I hate to say it, but Abelas’s plan to destroy the Well may be the best one. Morrigan: What happens when Corypheus comes for you again? He is immortal. The wisdom of the Well may include a way to destroy him. Give me this, and I fight at your side. I shall be your sword.
9 - General: How can I trust you? PC: What’s to stop you from taking the knowledge and leaving? Morrigan: My word. If that seems insufficient, Corypheus threatens all–even myself. He must be stopped. PC: And who stops you? Morrigan: I, Inquisitor, seek neither immortality nor your life.
17 - Scene continues.
18 - Dialogue options:
- What does everyone else think? [19]
- Arcane: I know the Well’s danger. [20]
- Morrigan, the Well is yours. (Morrigan will gain the power of the Well.) [21] -Vivienne Greatly Disapproves -Cassandra Disapproves -Iron Bull Disapproves +Blackwall Approves (romanced) +Solas Approves +Sera Approves

19 - General: What does everyone else think? PC: Thoughts?
Party Comments:
- Solas: She is right about only one thing: we should take the power which lies in that well.
- Vivienne: I would not trust the power in that well with anyone but you, my dear.
- Dorian: It all seems ghoulish. Let Morrigan use it, if she wants it so much.
- Dorian(romanced): I don’t want to risk losing you to a well.
- Varric: You’re asking me? This is a lot of… weird. I barely understand how any of this works.
- Cole: So many voices. They would be in your head, talking over you. You don’t want them.
- Sera: It’s called the Well of Sorrows. Sorrows. No one should go in the Well of Sorrows.
- Cassandra: If it is truly between you and her… then let her take the risk. Maker help us all.
- Cassandra (romanced): I… do not know. If there is risk to you…
- Iron Bull: Any chance this Well could help us against Corypheus, I say you take it.
- Blackwall: I’d trust you with this power more than her… but it is not for me to decide.
- Blackwall (romanced): I won’t lose you. Let the witch use the Well.
Morrigan: Enough deliberation. Give me your decision. [back to 18]
20 - Arcane: I know the Well’s danger. PC: Looking at it, listening to it… that’s not just knowledge from the ancient elven priests. It’s their will. Morrigan: How would you know such a thing? PC: That’s what Abelas was telling us. The collective will of the priests puts anyone who drinks under a compulsion, a geas. Can’t you feel it? Morrigan: That… would match the legends, but it does not tell us what the geas entails. I would still use the Well, but you are right. We must be cautious. [back to 18]
21 - General: Morrigan, the Well is yours. PC: It’s yours.
Morrigan enters the Well and submerges herself in it. A wave rolls over the area, and the PC runs up to Morrigan laying unconscious in the empty basin.
PC: Morrigan? Are you all right?
Morrigan: Ellasin selah! Vissan… vissanalla…
Morrigan: I… I am intact. There is much to sift through… but now we can–
*Corypheus steps out of the temple and reaches out towards them., then begins to fly after them.
Corypheus: (Scream of rage.)
Morrigan: The eluvian!
PC: Through the mirror!
The eluvian activates, and the party rushes through, and a figure rises from the empty Well, following them. As it enters the eluvian, it deactivates and Corypheus runs into the glass. The party stumbles out of the mirror and into the storeroom back in Skyhold. Morrigan deactivates the eluvian once the PC comes through.
Morrigan: It is done.
Scene ends.
22 - General: I’ll use the Well myself. PC: If anyone is to use the Well, it will be me. Morrigan: So you will take what little knowledge you can understand, and let the rest go to waste?
Dialogue options:
- General: We still need you. [23]
- General: It won’t go to waste. [24]
- General: The Inquisition needs this. [25]
23 - General: We still need you. PC: The Inquisition needs you. Corypheus still endangers us all. [26] ㅤㅤ ㅤ 24 - General: It won’t go to waste. PC: And who’s to say it will go to waste? Morrigan: I do. [26] ㅤㅤ ㅤ 25 - General: The Inquisition needs this. PC: This knowledge stays with the Inquisition. [26]
26 - Scene continues.
Morrigan (the PC did not warn about the Well’s geas): I am forever balked by those who believe they know better than I. Drink if you will, for the sake of us all. But steel your will to do it. Morrigan: (the PC warned about the Well’s geas) Perhaps it is better this way. Do as you will with the Well of Sorrows, Inquisitor. But be careful.
The PC wades into the Well. They lift some of the water to their lips and there is a burst of light.
PC: (Cry of pain.)
The PC looks around, standing in a void of darkness with a circling haze.
Voice: Garas quenathra?
PC: “Why am I here?” Corypheus… a magister wishes to rip the Veil open. I must learn how to stop him.
Voice: (Unintelligible whispers.)
Dialogue options:
- General: Your aid is worth any price. PC: If you can help me vanquish Corypheus, take whatever price you wish. ㅤㅤ ㅤ
- General: Is that a yes or a no? PC: I can’t understand what you’re–look! Will you help me or not? ㅤㅤ ㅤ
- General: Answer me! PC: You will give me what I demand!
Voice: Vir mythal’enaste.
A sigil appears on the PC face, and everything goes dark.
Party comments:
- Cassandra: Is it over? [Are they] coming around? I knew this would happen.
- Cassandra (romanced): Maker, please. Don’t let it end this way.
- Sera: Wake up from your good decision, stupid!
- Sera (romanced): [Honey Tongue/Buckles/’Teetness/Shiny/Tadwinks/Inky]? If you’re dead, I’ll kill you!
- Blackwall: I knew no good would come of this!
- Blackwall (romanced): My lady? Oh, Maker, let her keep breathing…
- Dorian: There! Our intrepid leader’s coming round.
- Dorian (romanced): Festis bei umo canavarum. If you don’t come through this, I swear I’ll kill you.
- Solas: There. Our Inquisitor’s waking up.
- Solas (romanced): Inquisitor? Inquisitor!
- Iron Bull (romanced): Hey, how’d that work out for you, kadan? You feeling good?
- Varric: Breathing. That’s good! Let’s keep that up.
- Vivienne: Inquisitor? Can you hear me?
The party approaches the PC as they they are jolted back into the Well, where they are laying in the empty basin. They stand, unsteady and waving away help.
Party comments:
- Solas: How… do you feel?
- Blackwall: How do you feel?
- Dorian: Not dead! Well, that’s a relief. So… good? Bad? I’m dying to know.
- Sera: So, you’ve got a head full of damp whatever. How’s that feel?
- Iron Bull: That looked rough. How do you feel?
- Cassandra: Inquisitor? How do you feel?
- Vivienne: Warn us before you do that again, my dear. How do you feel?
*Corypheus steps out of the temple and reaches out towards them., then begins to fly after them.
Corypheus: (Scream of rage.)
Morrigan: The eluvian!
PC: Through the mirror!
The eluvian activates, and the party rushes through, and a figure rises from the empty Well, following them. As it enters the eluvian, it deactivates and Corypheus runs into the glass. The party stumbles out of the mirror and into the storeroom back in Skyhold. Morrigan deactivates the eluvian once the PC comes through.
Morrigan: It is done.
Return to Skyhold
The PC returns to the War table with Morrigan.
Cullen: I’m pleased to report we won the battle, Inquisitor. When you went through that mirror, Corypheus and his archdemon fled. I’m not sure why.
Morrigan: What he wanted was no longer within the temple.
Cullen: Perhaps. He spent so long trying to get into the temple, he probably couldn’t have helped his forces by that point.
Josephine: Then Corypheus is finished.
Leliana: If he is wise, he will hide and rebuild his strength before he attacks again.
Morrigan: He will not hide.
Dialogue options:
- General: Then he’s coming here? [1]
- General: You seem certain. [2]
- General: Neither will I. [3]
1 - General: Then he’s coming here? PC: Meaning he will attack us directly, at Skyhold. Morrigan: Not necessarily, but neither will he remain idle. Leliana: And how could you have such insight into his plans? [4]
2 - General: You seem certain. PC: You sound pretty certain when you say that. [4]
3 - General: Neither will I. PC: And I won’t hide from him. Morrigan: He knows this, and will act accordingly. Leliana: And how could you have suck insight into his plans? [4]
4 - Scene continues.
Morrigan: The Well of Sorrows held many voices, and they speak to me now from across the ages. They hold wisdom, secrets I never dreamed possible. But even they fear what Corypheus has become.
Dialogue options:
- General: How powerful is he? [5]
- General: That doesn’t sound good. [6]
- General: Even he can be killed. [7]
5 - General: How powerful is he? PC: Should we fear him more than his army? Morrigan: Possibly. Luckily for you, he has a weakness. [8]
6 - General: That doesn’t sound good. PC: But he’s not a god yet… is he? Morrigan: Not yet. He is both powerful and immortal… but he has a weakness. [8]
7 - General: Even he can be killed. PC: We defeated his army, and elven magic killed him at the temple. He’s not invincible. Morrigan: Not invincible, but incredibly powerful. [8]
8 - Scene continues
Morrigan: The dragon he calls is not truly an Archdemon. It is a dragon, in which Corypheus has invested part of his being. He doubtless did so out of pride, to emulate the gods of old. That pride can be exploited. Kill the dragon, and his ability to leap into other bodies is disrupted. He can be slain.
Dialogue options:
General: Are you sure? [9] General: Oh, is that all? [10] General: He won’t let us. [11]
9 - General: Are you sure? PC: You’re sure? If there are no bodies for him to jump to… Morrigan: you assume there is a limit to the range of his power. There is not. [12]
10 - General: Oh, is that all? PC: Just kill his dragon? Why didn’t we think of that before? [12]
11 - General: He won’t let us. PC: Corypheus won’t just stand by and let us kill his dragon. Morrigan: Of course not, yet you must do it even so. [12]
12 - Scene continues.
Morrigan: There is a way to defeat the dragon, to match Corypheus in his power. The Well whispers it to me now. Your help will be required, Inquisitor. Speak to me when you are ready, and we shall begin.
Morrigan leaves.
Cullen: I’ll see to Skyhold’s defenses in the meantime.
The PC hears whispering voices.
The Well: He will not hide.
PC: He won’t hide.
Morrigan: You hear it. The Well speaks to you.
Dialogue options:
- General: It’s trying to, I think. PC: It’s… voices, whispering from so far away I can barely hear them… ㅤㅤ ㅤ ㅤ
- General: I can barely understand it. PC: Something from that Well is speaking to me, though it’s hardly making sense. ㅤㅤ ㅤ ㅤ
- General: I hear something. PC: I hear something.
Morrigan: If only one who understood such voices had used the Well’s power instead.
Leliana: Then we’d have to rely on her interpretation of them and whatever she chose to tell us.
Morrigan: Have I not been forthcoming enough for you, spymaster? I told you what the Well could have done, Inquisitor. You should be hearing shouts from the heavens, not whispers!
Dialogue options:
- General: I’m doing my best. PC: I’m doing all I can, Morrigan. It will have to be enough. ㅤㅤ ㅤ ㅤ
- General: Then help me understand! PC: Then help me! Isn’t that what you came here to do? ㅤㅤ ㅤ ㅤ
- General: The decision was made. PC: I have the Well’s power, Morrigan. Not you.
Morrigan: Earlier you said you knew what needed to be done next. What did you mean?
PC: The dragon isn’t an Archdemon. It’s a dragon in which Corypheus has invested part of his power. Kill it, and his ability to jump to other bodies is disrupted for a time. He can be killed.
Leliana: That’s… no simple task. Corypheus alone is powerful, but with his dragon…
Choice dependent dialogue:
- Morrigan has Kieran
- Morrigan does not have Kieran
Morrigan has Kieran:
PC: There is a way. But I’ll need Morrigan’s help.
Morrigan: The voices from the Well tell you that, do they? Very well, Inquisitor. Speak to me when you are ready to begin this “plan” of yours.
Morrigan leaves.
Cullen: I’ll see to Skyhold’s defenses in the meantime.
Scene ends.
Morrigan does not have Kieran:
The Well: Go to the altar. Mythal will come.
PC: I need to summon Mythal.
Morrigan: Whatever Mythal was, goddess or myth… The Inquisitor looks to the map, ignoring Morrigan.
The PC points to spot on the map.
PC: There. An altar in the wilderness. That’s where I need to go.
Morrigan: I see you are determined. So be it.
Morrigan leaves.
Josephine: Are you… certain of this?
Dialogue options:
- General: It’s all we can do. PC: We have no choice. If Corypheus comes here now… ㅤㅤ ㅤ ㅤ
- General: Certain? No. PC: (Chuckles.) I don’t think “certain” is the right word. ㅤㅤ ㅤ ㅤ
- General: We must prepare for the worst. PC: No. We must be ready for anything–a trap, or worse.
Cullen: I’ll see to Skyhold’s defenses in the meantime.
Scene ends.
