Catching Up With Leliana
The PC approaches Leliana.
Leliana: Will you walk with me?
They begin to walk the grounds.
Leliana: The first time I came to the Winter Palace, I was only eighteen.
Leliana looks up at the Winter Palace.
Leliana: I was dazzled. Such rich hangings. Splendid marble columns. More golden lions than I could count. It’s all still here. Still bright. But I no longer see that same palace.
Dialogue options:
- General: You sound sad. [1]
- General: Everything changes. [2]
- General: You can get used to anything. [3]
1 - General: You sound sad. PC: And that makes you sad. Leliana: It is easier on the heart to just see gilding. [4]
2 - General: Everything changes. PC: Everything changes. People most of all. Leliana: Yes. [4]
3 - General: You can get used to anything. PC: Over time, it’s easy to grow numb. Leliana: If only I were just numb. [4]
4 - Scene continues.
Leliana Divine Leliana: Now all I see are hands rubbed raw to make gold gleam, tears shed in the night over silk embroidery. Others overlook them and forget their pain, but I am Divine, and I cannot be blind.
Not Divine Leliana: Now all I can see are the knives in the shadows, the poison in jeweled goblets.
She turns to the Ferelden and Orlesian ambassadors.
Leliana: They seek to tear the Inquisition down. You feel it, no? Fear.
Dialogue options:
- General: But we have so many friends. [5]
- General: We know too much. [6]
- General: They should be afraid. [7]
5 - General: But we have so many friends. PC: Have we not made enough allies? Leliana: If friends were easily made and kept, we wouldn’t need diplomacy. Our allies can be cordial to our faces and still dread the future. [8]
6 - General: We know too much. PC: I’d fear anyone with our vault of secrets. Wouldn’t you? Leliana: It is not our secrets, nor our soldiers. There have always been spymasters and private armies. [8]
7 - General: They should be afraid. PC: Anyone with their wits should fear us. We command more people than some countries. Leliana: It is not our secrets, nor our soldiers. There have always been spymasters and private armies. [8]
8 - Scene continues.
Leliana: They are afraid of nothing so much as the hand that directs it all.
PC: Mine.
Leliana: Already, your actions have begun to reshape Thedas. Your influence is felt everywhere. It was only a matter of time before they moved. I’m surprised it took this long.
Choice dependent dialogue:
- Leliana Divine [9]
- Leliana not Divine, softened [10]
- Leliana not Divine, hardened [11]
9 - Leliana Divine Leliana: The Inquisition’s time is coming to an end.
Dialogue options:
- General: Is that the Divine’s order? [12]
- General: I agree. [13]
- General: We’re still needed. [14]
12 - General: Is that the Divine’s order? PC: Is that the decree of Her Perfection Divine Victoria? That the Inquisition be dissolved? Leliana: As Divine, it is my duty to think of Thedas—and all her peoples. [15]
13 - General: I agree. PC: The Inquisition has done enough. More than enough. Maybe it’s time for us to lay down our swords and go home. [15]
14 - General: We’re still needed. PC: The Inquisition still does good work. Thedas will always need us. [15]
15 - Scene continues.
Leliana: We set out to restore peace. And now peace is upon us.
Leliana (softened): You and I have come so far through the darkness together. It is time for us both to live in the light. Leliana (hardened): Some things can only be accomplished in shadow, without the trappings of power and the attention they bring.
Leliana: But whatever you decide, I will be honored to stand beside you. Scene ends.
10 - Leliana not Divine, softened Leliana: It may be time to end things.
Dialogue options:
- General: Are you breaking up with us? PC: You’re dumping the Inquisition? You can’t dump the Inquisition! ㅤㅤ ㅤ
- General: I agree. PC: The Inquisition has done enough. More than enough. Maybe it’s time for us to lay down our swords and go home. ㅤㅤ ㅤ
- General: We’re still needed. PC: The Inquisition still does good work. Thedas will always need us.
Leliana: We set out to restore peace. And now peace is upon us. But I know from experience how hard it can be to lay down your blade and accept that things have changed. We can still work for the good of Thedas without the Inquisition, but the time for soldiers and spies has passed. You have suffered terrible things, Inquisitor. I hope you still see the light ahead of us. The world is ready to move past the horror of the Breach and Corypheus. And so should we. But whatever you decide, I will be honored to stand beside you. Scene ends.
11 - Leliana not Divine, hardened Leliana: When the time comes, consider giving them what they want.
Dialogue options:
- General: I have. [16]
- General: You’re joking. [17]
- General: No. [18]
16 - General: I have. PC: I’ve thought about it. Ending the Inquisition wouldn’t be so bad. Leliana: You misunderstand. [19]
17 - General: You’re joking. PC: What? You’re not serious. Leliana: They cannot act against what they cannot see. [19]
18 - General: No. PC: I will not destroy the Inquisition. Leliana: Don’t you know me by now? [19]
19 - Scene continues.
Leliana: Publicly, I will, of course, retire from this life. As one would expect. Let them think they’ve finally won. I shall take up charity work, become a patron of the arts… as all respectable women of my age do. Perhaps take on a protégé? Our work never ends, Inquisitor. We just need fewer witnesses. Scene ends.
Prompted Conversation
If Leliana is Divine PC: Divine Victoria.
Leliana: (Laughs) Please don’t. It would be nice to just be “Leliana” again for a few days.
Dialogue options:
General: I’m sorry. [1] General: Of course, Most Holy. [2] General: Good, that’s easier. [3]
1 - General: I’m sorry. PC: Oh, of course. Forgive me. Leliana: There’s nothing to forgive. I just want it to be like old times. [7]
2 - General: Of course, Most Holy. PC: As you command, Most Holy. Leliana: (Sighs.) [7]
3 - General: Good, that’s easier. PC: It’ll save breath to not call you “Divine Victoria” all the time. Leliana: Good. [7]

After returning from the Deep Roads
Leliana: I knew it was foolish to hope the Exalted Council would go smoothly.
Dialogue options:
- General: Still think we should disband? [4]
- General: It could be worse. [5]
- General: What are the consequences? [6]
4 - General: Still think we should disband? PC: Has all this chaos changed your mind about the future?
Softened Leliana: We must stay true to ourselves, Inquisitor, whether we fight or lay down arms. As long as we serve the people, rather than our own agenda, we’ll be on the right path. [7]
Hardened Leliana: If anything, the Exalted Council has me more convinced. We would be better able to fight the Qunari if diplomats weren’t slowing us down. [7]
5 - General: It could be worse. PC: At least the sky hasn’t torn open again. Leliana: Give it time. The day’s still young. PC: I see your point. [7]
6 - General: What are the consequences? PC: How much damage control should we be doing?
Softened Leliana: Josie is worried, but I have faith in her. She can keep the delegates calm. [7]
Hardened Leliana: I’ve had a few words with Charter. We’re preparing additional… leverage with the delegates, just in case. [7]
—
Leliana: Inquisitor, is there something I can help with?
7 - Dialogue options:
- General (Leliana Divine): Do you miss the Inquisition? [8]
- General (Cassandra Divine): Have you spoken to Cassandra? [9]
- General: How are your nugs? [10]
- General: How is the Hero of Ferelden? [11]
- General: What news have you heard? [12]
- General: Just saying hello. [13]
8 - General: Do you miss the Inquisition? PC: Do you miss being our spymaster? Leliana: I think I miss the people more than the work. Josie, Cullen… I didn’t notice how much I liked having them near until they weren’t. We write, of course, but it’s not the same. [back to 7]
9 - General: Have you spoken to Cassandra? PC: Have you met with Cassandra since her return? Leliana: Oh, yes. She is quite relieved to be out of the robes and back in the armor. I just hope she doesn’t forget everything she’s learned as Divine. It took two years before she stopped hiding a sword under her vestments. [back to 7]
10 - General: How are your nugs? PC: Tell me about your nugs. Did you get any new ones? Leliana: Oh! Yes! A litter was born just a month ago. We are weaning them right now. If you were hoping for one, I’m afraid they’re already spoken for.
Dialogue options:
- Special: This has become a business. [14]
- [Back to 7]
14 - Special: This has become a business. PC: Your nug breeding sounds like more than just a hobby now. Leliana: It has certainly expanded. And who knows, if the Inquisition ends… There are worse things to do with my time. I find being with the little ones soothing. [back to 7]
11 - General: How is the Hero of Ferelden? PC: How are things between you and the Hero of Ferelden?
Leliana Divine Leliana: We see each other whenever we can. There is gossip, of course. People who call me inappropriate. But love is one of the Maker’s greatest gifts and nothing to be ashamed of. Start and end with love, and everything else falls into place. As Divine, I have tried to spread this message. It’s taken some time, but I think people are listening. Especially now. [back to 7]
Leliana not Divine, softened We are well, thank you. Our duties have kept us apart for a long time. I know we will be together again one day. I just don’t know when that will be. [back to 7]
Leliana not Divine, hardened We are well, thank you. Our duties have kept us apart for a long time. Perhaps it is time to put duty aside and be selfish. I have sacrificed so much already. [back to 7]
12 - General: What news have you heard? PC: Have your agents any news I should hear about?
PC romanced Solas Leliana: Are you hoping for word on Solas? I’m sorry, Inquisitor. I’m afraid I have nothing. Just rumors of sightings that cannot be verified. He is familiar with my methods and seems always one step ahead of me. It is tiring. [back to 7]
PC did not romance Solas Leliana: There is activity in the Tirashan. Strange elves, like those at the Temple of Mythal. No news of Solas, however. [back to 7]
13 - General: Just saying hello. PC: Perhaps later, Leliana. Leliana: I’ll be right here if you need anything.
