Post-IHW Krem: Nice work at Redcliffe. I could help the mages learn to work with Inquisition soldiers, if you like. (Coughs.) Not that the chief has any apostates in the group.

Post-CotJ Krem: We’ve got the templars on our side? Glad to hear it. I’ll keep the Chargers at a respectful distance. (Coughs.) Not that the chief has any apostates in the group.

How Can We Use You?

Krem: Can I help you with anything? Krem: What can I do for you?

Dialogue options:

  • General: How can we use you?

PC: Iron Bull said the Chargers were at my disposal. Do you have any suggestions on how to use them?

If asked before PC: Can you think of any other tasks suitable for the Chargers?

Post-IHW, asked at Haven Krem: The templars have holed up in Therinfal Redoubt. No idea what’s happening inside. I could have some of the boys poke around. If nothing else, we’d get a better look at the land.

Post-CotJ We don’t have much information about what’s happening in Redcliffe’s castle, now that the mages have gone silent. I could take some of the boys and poke through Redcliffe’s castle. Might tell us more about the Venatori.

No new quests Krem: Nothing jumps out at me. If I come up with any ideas, I’ll let you know.

Mother Giselle

The Threat Remains

Giselle: Greetings, Herald of Andraste. How fares your quest to seal the Breach?

Dialogue options:

  • General: I’m trying. [2]

2 - General: I’m trying. PC: I’m doing everything within my power. Giselle: A task such as closing the Breach is a heavy burden. I hope you do not carry it alone. We remember Andraste, but Andraste did not carry the Chant of Light alone.

Giselle (Dalish PC): She had generals, advisors, and though it is considered heresy to say it, she had the aid of the elf Shartan.
Giselle (non-Dalish PC): She had generals, advisors… even her husband, for a time.

Giselle: Do everything within your power, but remember those who would help you. [5]

3 - General: Damned if I know. PC: Well, you know how these things go. At least, I hope someone does. Giselle: You laugh to bring a little light into the darkness. I am glad to see it. Too many see laughter as antithetical to the Chant. They imagine Andraste as a grim warrior all her life, forgetting that she loved and was loved in return. I hope she found time for laughter during her trials. As I hope you do. [5]

4 - General: People are frustrating me. PC: Not as well as it should. How can people focus on trivialities when faced with the Breach? Giselle: It is easy for us to imagine that mundane matters fall aside in tumultuous times. The Chant of Light does not speak of feeding troops, or arranging meetings, or any such mundane concerns. But every organizational detail you contend with, Andraste herself once faced. These trivialities are steps on your path to victory, even if history never remembers them. [5]

6 - General: Thank you. PC: I appreciate your insight, Mother Giselle. Giselle: Take it for whatever it’s worth. You walk a difficult path, and there is little enough I can do to aid you. [12]

7 - General: That comparison scares me. PC: You keep talking as if I’m the equal of Andraste. Do you know how unnerving that is? Giselle: I can only imagine. But we are all given to our purpose under the Maker. The sword does not ask to be forged. And frankly, if such a comparison gives you pause, I do not see that as a bad thing. [12]

8 - General: I am not the Herald. PC: I thought I made it clear that I’m not the Herald of Andraste. Giselle: I understand. Whatever you believe, there remains a task to be done. If the faith of the people is nothing but a tool, then I beg you to use it well. We will all perish if you do not. [12]

9 - General: I obey the will of Andraste. PC: I will try to follow in Andraste’s footsteps as best I can. Giselle: If you like. But Andraste forged her own path, guided as she was by her visions. Look to Andraste for guidance… but ultimately, that Maker has made this your task to fulfill. [12]

10 - General: There is no Maker. PC: I don’t believe in the Maker. Giselle: Fair enough. But Andraste lived, and her deeds, however shrouded by myth, have their basis in fact. If you do not believe in the Chant of Light, at least consider it a map of the dangers you might face. [12]

Champions of the Just/In Hushed Whispers

Giselle (allied mages): I understand you were instrumental in garnering the assistance of the rebel mages. Giselle (allied templars): I understand you were instrumental in garnering the assistance of the templars.

Giselle: It is well done… and I pray this Inquisition fares better than the Chantry in its handling of magic.

Dialogue options:

  • General: We’ll do our best. [13]

13 - General: We’ll do our best. PC: We will try. [16]

14 - General: You disagree with the Chantry? PC: You disapprove of something the Chantry did? Are you allowed to do that? Giselle: That largely depends upon one’s company. While surrounded by those declared heretics already, I am safe enough. [16]

15 - General: The Chantry did terribly. PC: It would be difficult for us to do worse. Giselle: Harshly spoken, but difficult to deny.

Giselle: In some ways, Andraste had the simpler task. “Magic should serve man, and not rule over him.” That tells us what should be. But it does not tell us how to get there. So many times the methods of men have undone the spirit of their goals. Once you have sealed the Breach, we shall see whether this Inquisition is truer to the Chantry, or its own namesake. Scene ends.

2 - General: Can I help with anything? PC: Is there anything I can do to help you or your people? Giselle: My healers would benefit from more supplies. We have run short of even common goods with so many wounded. If you could deliver this list and the items on it to Quartermaster Threnn, she could get us what we need. It may not seem like much, but it would enable my healers to save many lives. (triggers Lotus and Root quest) Scene ends.

3 - General: Here are the medical supplies. PC: I got what you needed from Quartermaster Threnn. Gisella: Thank you. I will see that these are put to good use. Losing a soldier to a slashed throat or a terrible burn is bad enough… Watching a good man die from something as simple as an infected wound is… difficult to bear. You have saved many lives. I will ensure it is remembered. Scene ends.

4 - Investigate: Who will be the next Divine? PC: Do you know who the grand clerics will choose as the next Divine? Giselle: It is a difficult decision. All the obvious candidates perished with Divine Justinia at the Conclave. The grand clerics are terrified of the Inquisition. They will not decide soon, and I fear they will not decide wisely. Whoever is chosen needs the Inquisition’s support. No one else seems likely to seal the Breach. [back to 1]

5 - Investigate: How are the people? PC: How are the people doing after what happened at the Conclave? Giselle: They are scared, of course. Many have lost homes or loved ones. I doubt many will sleep well until you have sealed the Breach. I have offered what help I can. The rest is for the Inquisition. What more do you wish to know? [8]

6 - Investigate: How are the people? PC: Can you tell me how our people are doing? Giselle: What would you like to know?

9 - Investigate: How are people at Haven? PC: How are the villagers in Haven doing? ㅤㅤ ㅤ IHW/CotJ not completed Giselle: They are terrified. Many of them came here because the war between the mages and the templars destroyed their homes. In their minds, the death of the Divine has destroyed any chance of peace. To that, add the Breach. Farmers have fled their fields. If we do not restore order, half of Thedas may starve. [back to 8] ㅤㅤ ㅤ Allied mages Giselle: You did well to gain the mages to your cause. The people have hope that the Breach may be sealed. Some of them are returning to the lives they fled. Others are starting fresh. Giselle: My sisters and I have been tending to the injured as best we are able. Some refugees come with food, while others arrive empty-handed. I have helped ensure that all have enough to eat. Beyond that, many simply wish the familiar comfort of the Chant of Light. It is little enough work to offer some comfort to those in pain. ㅤㅤ ㅤ 11 - Investigate: How are people elsewhere? PC: Do you have information on people elsewhere? ㅤㅤ ㅤ Giselle (did not complete quests for Corporal Vale): The refugees in the Hinterlands are desperate. Without help, starvation or war will claim many lives. Giselle (completed quests for Corporal Vale): You have done much for the refugees in the Hinterlands. Many who would have starved or frozen owe you their lives. ㅤㅤ ㅤ Giselle: Villagers in Crestwood are besieged by their own dead. They have sent word begging for assistance. People are vanishing in the hills of Emprise du Lion. It may be demons, or something worse, but they are terrified. More than that, I cannot say. It is a chaotic time for all in Orlais and Ferelden.
