Hawke

Hawke: Inquisitor.

2 - Investigate: You fought Corypheus?
PC: You said you thought you killed Corypheus?
Hawke: He was imprisoned by the Grey Wardens. He needed my blood to break the seals and free himself. And I didn’t just think I killed him. When the fight was done, he was dead on the ground. Maybe his tie to the blight brought him back, or maybe it’s old Tevinter magic… but he was dead. I swear it.
Hawke (Hawke found Malcom’s will): The Grey Wardens had him imprisoned. They used my father’s blood in a ritual to seal Corypheus inside. But he could still reach out and influence the Warden’s thoughts. He sent them after me.

3 - Investigate: You’re no longer [viscount/viscountess]?
PC: Why did you step down as [viscount/viscountess]?
Hawke: The templars started using a dangerous new form of lyrium. It’s red and very powerful.
PC (allied templars): The templars serving Corypheus were using red lyrium. I stopped most of them.
PC (allied mages): The templars serving Corypheus at Haven were using red lyrium.
Hawke: It made the templars in Kirkwall paranoid. Eventually they came after me. I left Kirkwall to find out more. I never imagined it would lead me to Corypheus.
Hawke (if asked again): I told you that the templars in Kirkwall were using red lyrium. It made them paranoid, and eventually they turned on us.

4 - Investigate: Where have you been?
PC: Where did you go after the mages rebelled?
Hawke: I heard the Chantry might be sending an Exalted March to Kirkwall to put down the rebellion.
Hawke (Anders lived): We thought that leaving would save lives and divide her forces to hunt for us. But all the Circles were rising up by then. We helped a lot of them take that final step.
Hawke (Anders died): I hoped that leaving would save lives and force the Divine to divide her forces to come after me. As it turned out, I needn’t have bothered. All the Circles started rising up, and the Exalted March never came.

5 - Investigate: Tell me about Anders.
PC: I’d like to know more about Anders. What was he like?

Hawke didn’t support Anders:
Hawke: I don’t know if there was ever just an “Anders.”
Hawke (friends with Anders): There was a voice in him, driving him towards justice for the mages, so loud that it drowned everything out. Even me.
Hawke (rivals with Anders): He was crazy. By the end, there was nothing left in him except this insane need to start a war no one could win.

If Hawke supported Anders:
Hawke: Complicated. It’s not like the minstrels make it out to be.
Hawke (Anders died): He wasn’t just a monster or a martyr. Or maybe he was both. He was trying to change the world. He knew it couldn’t happen peacefully.
Hawke (Anders alive): He’s not a monster or a hero. Or maybe he’s both. He was trying to change the world. He knew it couldn’t happen peacefully.

Dialogue options:

Special (Hawke romanced Anders): Were you in love? [10]

10 - Special: Were you in love?
PC: I heard you two were… close.
Hawke (Anders died): Yes. But when he went mad… I couldn’t stop what he did. I could only put him down.
Hawke (Anders alive, disapproved of Anders’ actions): When someone betrays you like that… it takes a long time to get past it. I don’t know if we ever have. But I can’t just give up on him. He’d be here now if it was anyone after me but the Wardens.
Hawke (Anders alive, supported Anders’ actions): I never wanted to leave him like this. If it was anyone after me but the Wardens… Anders used to be a Grey Warden. I couldn’t risk exposing him to whatever they’re going through. It went… poorly the first time we met Corypheus.

6 - Investigate: What happened in Kirkwall?
PC: Varric said you were the Champion of Kirkwall. I’ve only heard a little about what happened there.
Hawke: What happened at Kirkwall was the same thing that happened everywhere. Fearful of blood magic and abominations, the templars brutally suppressed the Circle… And in their desperation to survive, the mages turned to blood magic or became abominations. Finally, a rebel mage named Anders destroyed Kirkwall’s chantry, and everything came tumbling down.

11 - Special: You knew Anders.
PC: I heard that Anders was your friend. What was he like? [5]

7 - Investigate: Why are you alone?
PC: I heard you had family and friends in Kirkwall. Where are they now?
Hawke (sibling became a Warden): My [brother/sister]’s a Grey Warden. I had my friend Aveline take [him/her] as far from Orlais as possible.
Hawke (sibling did not go to the Deep Roads): When the Wardens began acting strangely, I had my friend Aveline take my [brother/sister] out of the Free Marches.
Hawke (Isabella romance): Isabella and I never believed in being tied down. When I had to go into hiding, she understood. We’ll see each other again. Until then, she’ll be having fun. But hopefully not too much fun.
Hawke (Merrill romance): Merrill is helping elven refugees who were displaced by the war. I didn’t want to take her away from that. Merrill’s spent enough time fighting fer her life with me.
Hawke (Fenris romance): Fenris would have killed himself to protect me. I didn’t want to give him that chance.
Hawke (Sebastian romance): Sebastian is the Chantry advisor in Starkhaven. The throne is still in contention there. Without him, it would be open war among the noble families. He’d have dropped everything to come with me, but he’d have hated himself for doing it.
Hawke (Anders romance, Anders alive): I’m never really happy leaving Anders alone, but once I realized the Wardens were acting strangely, I had no choice. I’ve seen Corypheus affect Anders’ mind before. If he was involved, I couldn’t risk it happening again.
Hawke (no romance): There’s hardly anyone left, really. My uncle Gamlen’s still in Kirkwall, but everyone else I used to know? They’ve pretty much scattered to the winds.

8 - Investigate: What has Varric told you?
PC: I assume Varric’s been feeding you information about the Inquisition? What did he say about me?
Hawke: Only good things, I promise. I was a little surprise, actually. Varric isn’t one for religion in general, but he thinks highly of the Inquisition.
Hawke (Varric low/neutral PC approval): I think the exact phrase was “ has a good shot at fixing Blondie’s mess.”
Hawke (Varric positive PC approval): And you.

PC: We’ll talk later.
Hawke: Right.
Hawke: Later, then.

Morrigan

The PC speaks to Morrigan after the events of HLTA.

Morrigan (completed HLTA after WEWH): So you have saved the Grey Wardens from their own self-destructive foolishness. ‘Tis for the best. Morrigan (Completed HLTA before WEWH): I was pleased to learn you saved the Grey Wardens from their own self-destructive foolishness.

Morrigan: For all their eagerness to shed blood for their cause, we will still need them should another Blight arise. ‘Tis fortunate my Warden was not here, or he would surely have been in the middle of it.

PC: Your Warden?

Morrigan: You might know him as the Hero of Ferelden. A lofty title, though he wears it well.

Dialogue options:

General: I’m pleased for you. [3]
General: You have a husband? [4]
General: Where is he? [5]

3 - General: I’m pleased for you. PC: It’s good to know you have someone special. Morrigan: Nobody is more surprised by that fact than I, Inquisitor. [6]

4 - General: You have a husband? PC: didn’t see you as the type to settle down, Morrigan. Morrigan: (Chuckles.) ‘Tis not so domestic as you picture, but even so, it has far outstripped my expectations. [6]

5 - General: Where is he? PC: Where is your Warden now? [6]

6 - Scene continues.

Morrigan: My love is on a quest to combat the Calling—the actual Calling that signals the end of a Warden’s life. If he is successful, it will mean a long life for him… perhaps for them all. Once Corypheus has been defeated, I fully intend to join my love once more. Kieran misses him greatly.

7 - Dialogue options:

Investigate: Why didn’t you go with him? [8]
Investigate: Can he stop the Calling? [9]

General: Could he help us? [11]

8 - Investigate: Why didn’t you go with him? PC: It seems odd he went on an adventure, and you stayed behind. Morrigan: We are neither of us so weak, we would die of loneliness. Where he went, Kieran could not follow, and thus I remained behind to look after our son. We will be together soon enough, and I am glad of it. [back to 7]

9 - Investigate: Can he stop the Calling? PC: How can the Calling be stopped? Is that actually possible? Morrigan: Grand Enchanter Fiona was once a Grey Warden, but something removed the blight from her blood. Similarly, a Warden mage named Avernus performed experiments that prolonged his life to unnatural lengths. So we know it is possible. Indeed, ‘twas I who found the lead my love now follows in the western lands. Success is not guaranteed, of course, but he has never lacked for determination. [back to 7]

10 - Investigate: Are you happy? PC: Are the two of you happy together? Morrigan: The three of us. And it is little business of yours. But… yes. I never thought to find someone in the world I could trust as an equal. He has been a good partner, and a good father. And now I pray we discuss something else, lest these honeyed words make me vomit. [back to 7]

11 - General: Could he help us? PC: Is there any way the Hero of Ferelden could help us against Corypheus? Morrigan: ‘Tis unlikely. Corypheus uses the blight, but he is not controlled by it like a true darkspawn. Still, my love has ever been resourceful. I can give the Inquisition a means to send him a message. He will think this message means I miss him, of course. (Sighs.) He will be insufferably pleased with himself. I hope you appreciate this sacrifice, Inquisitor. Scene ends.

After PC makes contact with the Warden: Morrigan: Leliana gave me the note that the Hero of Ferelden included for me. She may have even left it sealed. A pity. She would have learned things that could even make an Orlesian blush. Now, was there anything else?

12 - Alistair/Loghain left in the Fade Morrigan (Warden Alistair): So, Alistair is dead. Morrigan (Warden Loghain): So, Loghain is dead. The Hero of River Dane, responsible for the deaths of so many Grey Wardens until he became one of them.

Morrigan: ‘Tis fitting he died in a foolhardy, if heroic, fashion. That was his way.

14 - General: It wasn’t foolhardy. PC: It wasn’t foolhardy—he sacrificed himself so I could escape. Morrigan: Perhaps you and I have different definitions of the word. Morrigan (Warden Loghain): He attempted to have my companions and I slain during the Fifth Blight. That did not end as he expected. Morrigan: Still, I cannot fault his valiance. Considering the end that normally awaits a Grey Warden, he did well. [17] ㅤㅤ ㅤ ㅤ 16 - General: He will be avenged. PC: Corypheus will pay. Morrigan: Of that I have no doubt. [17]

13 - Stroud/Hawke left in the Fade

Morrigan (Wardens banished): I hear the Grey Wardens are now banished from southern lands? Such a decent into infamy after their victory in the Fifth Blight. I wonder if they wish now the war had spread further? They have until the next Archdemon’s rise to repair what damage they have done, if they are even able. [17]

Morrigan (Wardens allied): I understand you have spared the Grey Wardens from destroying what goodwill was left them? ‘Tis good of you, considering the weakness Corypheus exploited was their own doing. Still, should an Archdemon one day arise, they will no doubt be needed. Or so they would have us believe. [17]

Morrigan: One thing which makes me curious: did you encounter the Hero of Ferelden at Adamant Fortress?

24 - General: Not that I know of. PC: I met no one by that title. [25]

Morrigan: When the Champion of Kirkwall mentioned a Grey Warden ally, I assumed it would be [them]. It was, after all, just the sort of thing in which [they] would involve [themselves]. But that rather begs the question: if the Hero of Ferelden was not at Adamant, where [are they]? My suggestion? Track [them] down. [They] could be a great aid against Corypheus… or a terrible foe to the Inquisition. [19]

The PC can speak to Alistair up on the battlements.

Speaking to Alistair before the Western Approach:
Alistair: We should get to that ritual tower in the Western Approach, ideally before it lives up to its name.

Speaking to Alistair after the Western Approach:
Alistair: I can’t stand this. How many Grey Wardens died here? And for what? Erimond and the Grey Wardens are definitely holed up at Adamant Fortress, by the way. Don’t know if Hawke told you.

Alistair: I’m not sure. After we defeated the Archdemon, [they were] made Warden-Commander of Ferelden. [They] disappeared some time ago, not long before I started investigating rumors of Corypheus. [They] may have joined the Orlesian Wardens after I went into exile. If so, hopefully [they’ll] be on our side.
Alistair (Morrigan did dark ritual): But I wouldn’t count on it. When we fought the Archdemon, [they] did things that… [They] walk a dark path.

Alistair (HoF rules w/ Anora): I couldn’t say. I was exiled after [they] decided [they] preferred Anora’s company.

Alistair (romanced but HoF): No, [they] left before any of this began. A mission of [their] own, something personal. We Wardens don’t live that long. The Calling I spoke of, the real one—before it went crazy—eventually it kills us. The thing is, when we killed the Archdemon… we discovered that might not be as set in stone as we thought. So [they’re] searching for a way to end the curse. For both of us. Maybe for us all.

PC: The way you talk about [them], I’m surprised you aren’t still together.
Alistair: Oh, there was a discussion, believe me. Someone had to look into the rumors about Corypheus. We didn’t know what was involved at the time. [They] were going to stay to help, but we had a lead that couldn’t wait. One of us had to go. When I’m done here, we’ll be together again. Forever, this time. [back to 9]

PC: How can the Calling be stopped? If that actually possible?
Alistair: Grand Enchanter Fiona was once a Warden, so I’m told, but had the taint completely drawn out of her. There was also a Warden named Avernus who extended his life far beyond what should have been possible. So we looked into it. We weren’t going to give up without a fight. That’s when we found a rumor that meant going deep into the west. It wasn’t much, but we’ve done more with less. My love will find a way. I’m certain of it. [back to 9]

12 - Investigate: Have you been happy?
PC: Have you been happy with [them] in the years since the Blight?
Alistair: Happier than I ever dreamed possible. [They’re] more than I deserve… and I hope I make [their] days easier as well. [They] were rebuilding the Wardens in Ferelden, while I hunted darkspawn left over from the Blight. It was hard work for both of us, but we always had each other. [back to 9]

13 - Investigate: Could [they] help us?
PC: If [they’ve] been looking for a way to stop the Calling, perhaps [they] could help us.
Alistair (after Western Approach): I doubt it. This false Calling that Corypheus created isn’t the same as the real one. Still, it couldn’t hurt to check. [They’re] deep into the west by now, but I have a way to contact [them].
Alistair: I’ll give the information to your people in the war room. If nothing else. I’d like to warn [them] about Corypheus. [back to 9]

3 - Investigate: You fought in the Blight?
Alistair: I’m going to be answering that question for the rest of my life. Yes, I was there. It was big. The Hero of Ferelden was brave. But that was ten years ago. “What have you done for use lately, Alistair?” New time, new problems. [back to 1]

4 - Investigate: Tell me about the Wardens.
PC: What’s it like being a Warden?
Alistair: Oh, it’s wonderful! You get fresh peaches delivered every morning, first choice of local village girls, and bunnies, too! Well maybe it’s not that. Not even close to that. (Sighs.) I watched my brothers die at Ostagar soon after I joined. Never thought I’d see Wardens kill themselves.

PC: Why were the Wardens trying to kill you?
Alistair: When Clarel started talking blood magic and demons to deal with the Calling, I said it wasn’t a good idea. First it was awkward silences and some coughing… but when I mentioned Corypheus, things went really wild. The Warden mages said I was interfering, called me a traitor. Funny how often that happens to me. [back to 1]

5 - Investigate: How could they pay this price?
PC: How could the Wardens willing sacrifice their own to summon demons?
Alistair: I know it sounds nutty. Being a Warden makes us special, but it comes with a heavy price. You have to walk away from your old life and be prepared to do anything to stop the next Blight. And we are they only ones who can, the only ones willing to make the decisions—the sacrifices—to do that. You wouldn’t understand. Or, well, with that mark on your hand, maybe you would. [back to 1]

6 - Investigate: Who is leading the Wardens?
PC: You mentioned Warden-Commander Clarel. Is she behind this?
Alistair: She’s the one who summoned me and the other Wardens to Orlais when she started hearing the Calling. I don’t know her well. She’s a mage—smart, careful, determined. The sort of mage the the templars told me to keep a close watch over. Makes her the best kind of Warden. Or at least, I would have thought so. Maybe the templars aren’t wrong about *everything.

PC: Do you think she’s helping Corypheus willingly or was she duped?
Alistair: Clarel would never serve somethin that looks like a darkspawn willingly. I heard about an “advisor” of some kind though. Maybe we’ll learn more at the Western Approach. [back to 1]
(this is a follow-up conversation to the above that is only triggered after the Western approach? I’m not sure what the deal is here.)

7 - Investigate: What do the Wardens know?
PC: Corypheus was held in a Warden prison, right? So the Wardens should know all about him?
Alistair: You’d think the Wardens would share information with each other, but they’re really big on keeping secrets. Maybe they think some knowledge is too dangerous? I don’t know. For most Wardens, he’d be nothing more than an old legend, dead long ago. If they knew of him at all. [back to 1]

8 - Goodbye.
PC: We’ll talk later.
Alistair: Another time, then.

Ambient: Morrigan and Warden

If HLTA is done after WEWH, and Morrigan had Kieran, she can be found in the garden speaking with Alistair or Loghain.

Alistair: That’s him? I thought he’d look, I don’t know, more demonic. Tentacles and fiery breath.

Morrigan: He is a normal boy, Alistair.

Alistair: Uh-huh. And what does he know of… how he was made?

Morrigan: He knows his father was a good man. I—I thought you deserved that much.

Alistair: He’s changed you.

Morrigan: Don’t be absurd.

Alistair: So that’s his little boy?

Morrigan: His name is Kieran.

Alistair: Kieran? Nice name. I think he would have approved.

Morrigan: I would have preferred to ask his opinion on the matter. It did not have to end as it did.

Alistair: At least you have Kieran.

Morrigan: I could have had them both.

Alistair: So that’s his little boy?

Morrigan: His name is Kieran.

Alistair: Has he… have they ever met?

HoF went through the eluvian with Morrigan
Morrigan: We lived together, for a time. Somewhere safe, far from this world.
Alistair: This world? How many worlds are there?
Morrigan: We needed only the one. We were happy there.
Alistair: Until you left him.
Morrigan: I was not the one who left.

Morrigan: They have not.
Alistair: Don’t you think the deserves that much?
Morrigan: (HoF romanced) Kieran knows who his father is. I made an attempt at contact, but…
Morrigan: (HoF not romanced): Do you know where he is? I went to Ferelden, but…

Alistair: You’ve tried to find him?

Morrigan: Yes.

Alistair: So have I.

The Final Piece

The PC speaks to Morrigan in the gardens after returning from the Temple of Mythal, if Morrigan did not have Kieran.

Morrigan: Mother must be very pleased.

Morrigan (Morrigan drank): If I see her again, I will have no choice but to do every single thing she commands. Morrigan (PC Drank): The Herald of Andraste, leader of the Inquisition, at her personal beck and call.

Morrigan: I feel certain what happened at the Temple of Mythal must somehow have been her influence.

Dialogue options:

General: That’s possible. [7] General: Or maybe far more. [8] General (PC drank): You’re paranoid. [9] General (Morrigan drank): That was your doing. [10]

Morrigan: Which he had to acquire somewhere. Yes, I see. ‘Tis hard to imagine her motivation for doing so. Then again, everything about her is hard to imagine. [11]

9 - General: You’re paranoid. PC: So she planned my decision to drink from the well? Morrigan: And why not? She had to know one of us would. PC: And she’s controlling Corypheus as well? Morrigan: We have no idea where he acquired that orb. Why not from her? [11]

10 - General: That was your doing. PC: As I recall, you insisted on drinking from the well. Morrigan: Which she would have known I would do! PC: So it’s all a conspiracy? Corypheus too? Morrigan: Why not? He must have acquired the elven orb somewhere. [11]
